What a relaxing and spacious coffee shop; no wonder why this place is frequented by the locals. There's lots of spacious, outdoor seating, and a cool hangout vibe inside. I enjoy meeting up with friends here, and conversations can turn into hours because of the relaxed vibe; new, creative ideas seem to emerge just by hanging out at Lighthouse. 12 people in (beautiful) mesa coffeeshop and I waited 15 minutes for my mocha. I left a $2.00 tip and sat down 10 feet from the counter and waited for my name to be called. I understood I was the fourth cup in line. No worries, as I was in the restaurant business for over 20 years and I totally understand. After far too long, I finally went up and asked if my mocha was forgotten. Person pointed to a cup on the counter, had my name on it, and said "Oh, it's right here!" I looked at the cup and told them that this cup had been on the counter for at least 5 minutes so I asked if it was still hot. The person looked at me as if offended, and said "absolutely". I thank them and left. On my way to my weekly business investment group I opened my mocha and it was one click above cool. Didn't feel good about this. Being in business myself, I realized I just witnessed a group of service people who probably had not been trained to understand that a happy customer should be the top priority. Talking to friends and not paying attention should be lower on the list. I just want to be a normal customer who wishes to be taken care of and not be frustrated enough to write a poor review. I did have the chance to tell this story at my business meeting. We talked about proper training and how this is a clue to a business we would never invest in. Please be truthful to your customers. You need us when the crowds go away in the winter. I want my $2 dollar tip back. read more

New favorite coffee shop! The atmosphere is great for studying or catching up with some friends. There are plenty of tables inside and a few outside, but the place can get pretty packed. If you need an outlet to charge, I'd recommend grabbing a table along the wall. There's a very clean bathroom inside, which is a huge perk if you plan to stay here for a few hours! I've tried their Iced Chai with Almond Milk, Iced Latte with Almond Milk, and Cucumber Toast. All were delicious and I love that they have a variety of non-dairy milk options (soy, almond, oat). They also have a case of pastries featuring some local artisanal donuts from Hook and Press! One thing to keep in mind if you're trying to reduce your single-use plastic: bring your own cup for all iced drinks! Unfortunately, they only have plastic cups which they use for "for here" orders. The smallest size for the iced drinks is 16oz, so make sure to bring a large enough cup. I brought my own cup the second time I came and saved $0.25!!! We were in Santa Barbara seeking a coffee shop so we looked on Yelp and headed to the highly rated Lighthouse location. The place was full of folks working away on their notebook PC's. The interior is well lit, clean and smartly decorated. Our coffee drinks were very good and our pastry was tasty. Overall it was a above average experience. I was reluctant to give a 5 star rating because the staff was not welcoming or friendly. Moreover, the ambience in the coffee shop was more like a "library" setting. Very quiet and subdued atmosphere. Perhaps it was the late afternoon factor, or university crowd quietly and diligently working away. No matter, great place for coffee! read more

Love this place! You can find me here 3 mornings a week...at minimum. I usually get an iced chai, non-caffeinated iced tea, or an iced matcha. I'll probably get at least of each every week. The employees are always super friendly and know me (and my family) by name and the owner is often there. You can usually spot him chatting outside. I love local spots where the employees are part of the community and feel like friends. One of my biggest pet peeves is walking into a place where it's all business and the employees are like robots. The whole shop has a nice vibe! The matcha is unsweetened, which I love! You can get honey or sweetener if you want but honestly, it's great without it. The only issue I have is that the pre-mix for the chai (at least the iced version) is very sweet. But this is a problem in most coffee shops so I can't hold it against them. A must try! read more

This is a really nice cafe but, in my book, not a "real cafe". I was a fan of the old Good Cup but it really needed an up-do....and it really got one! For one, it is no longer the Good Cup ( but they do have some of the same great baristas). It is now all white walls and seats, and that spare, open, new look that is so...well, contrived to the point of boring. What I do love here now is the natural curved wood communal table in the center space, their loose leaf tea, local pastries, and super nice baristas. It is open early but closed at 7 pm ( and sadly, they really let you know....way too much so, if you are there after 6 pm to the point of discomfort). read more

Lighthouse Coffee is a beacon of light as far as Santa Barbara coffee shops go. I was immediately attracted to the bright decor and cute coffee drinks (so what I'm basic), but after having spent two afternoons there I can safely say that it is also a fantastic environment to work and socialize in. I'm not the only person catching on to this though. The last few times I've been it has been very busy and I've had to wait for tables. This is no fault of theirs and honestly a great marker of business. Plus, given that weather here isn't usually terrible, there is plenty of outdoor seating to make up for it. As someone who drinks their coffee black, I find their coffee to be a bit bitter. I've since switched to drinking their variety of teas and have been just as satisfied. Plus they have a wide variety of pastries and toasts in case you get hungry during your work session. I've only had the chocolate croissant but it was decadent! In addition to their pastries and the ambiance, I really love the fact that parking is easy, their options are inclusive to people with dairy allergies (like me) and that the employees are so friendly. Ok wow, I'm obsessed with this place. This building was formerly a different coffee shop called The Good Cup, and I used to go there frequently to study with friends on Sundays. Let's just say, this place used to have a somewhat dirty and dark feeling to it, but in a sort of endearing grungy vibe. But now! Oh man, now this place is sparkly clean and very hip and aesthetic. Everything is new, from the paint to the tables. The entire ambiance is so tasteful, it makes you want to sit and read there from morning until closing. I always try the chai lattes when I try new coffee places, but I saw they had a dirty chai option and immediately jumped on that. It was so good! They also have tasteful breakfast options, ranging from muffins to avocado toast with balsamic drizzled on it. The baristas were also very sweet and nice, which was something I was afraid would be lost since The Good Cup was so well known for their really friendly workers. I was really relieved to know that the friendly service was still very much maintained! It really puts a smile on your face. Go to this place. Now. That's all :) read more

Do you want mediocre coffee and rude customer service? Lighthouse Coffee on Cliff Drive is the place to go if that's what you're looking for. I came here yesterday and the Barista taking the order was not welcoming and had the biggest attitude. My boyfriend told her that he wanted a macchiato with ice and she corrected him saying "you mean you want an Iced Macchiato? " as she rolled her eyes. She also asked his sister "what name do you want us to call when it's ready?" As if she was expecting her to have some difficult Asian name to pronounce. None of the baristas seemed to be friendly or know what customer service truly is. The coffee is something that I can make on my own at home. I go to a lot of coffee houses but the one day I went here it was a normal Saturday afternoon. Not super busy but not super slow. I order the Nitro cold brew. I wait and watch other Expresso drinks being filled for about 15 minutes. I then ask where my drink is and the barista starts pouring my Cold brew. It should have taken 30s after my order. After she pours the cup. She leaves it on the counter for another minute. She's busy talking to her coworker. 20 minutes later I leave with my coffee. Annoyed that it took so long, extremely disrespected that the barista never once apologized. Thankfully there are many other coffee joints that treat their customers with respect. read more

Hip modern coffee spot with lots of seating and some seriously tasty coffee. Happy to say they offer multiple dairy alternatives; soy, almond, coconut AND oat! Plenty of typical baked goods options (bagels, muffins, etc) but they also offer a tasty looking variety of Toasts as well. I'm not too picky with my coffee, as long as it does it's job for my afternoon pick me up. So color me surprised when my cold brew actually tasted delicious !! Also got to try the Iced Chai Latte and that was wonderful too. No wonder there were so many people hanging out in there. Lighthouse coffee pioneered a new coffee shop. Thank the divine! The old establishment was dirty, the floors looked like they had been bought from hell, at best the drinks were average, and the staff was moments away from quitting and moving so far away from this place. Now, there is new-fashioned art work, likeable floors, yummy lattes, and a cheerful staff. The best part is, all of this was accomplished without being on the Gordon Ramsay show!
