With the end of the San Gennaro fest a few days ago, I was still in the mood for some arancini. Walking out the metro north this morning I noticed this truck parked outside on 47th, I knew I would make a stop here later in the day. I looked online to see the menu and I was dying for the mushroom and cheese arancini. Unfortunately when I got to the truck I saw only the meat one was available...so I got that for $3.50 I went to order at the window and was told to order at the truck door where a nice lady took my order and handed the cook my order ticket. My only issue with this, was that many people on line seemed confused on where to order and some people were not acknowledged (even though there were about 4 people) so they walked away without ordering. The person in front of me was also waiting for his order and the cook asked him what he ordered and couldn't find his ticket...they seem a bit disorganized. After about 10 minutes my rice ball came out. I was pretty excited to eat it and it was a great size. The outside was perfectly crisp & even and it was definitely fresh. It was pretty good, but personally wish they had the cheese one as well because everyone who walked by the truck was like OH! The have arancini---then looked and said 'oh just meat ones'

Real Sicilian street food love it

Excellent rice ball one of the best I've ever had, I was excited to see that the truck is in a lot of locations where I work throughout the city and I can't wait to be in those of the locations and it's nice to have a peace of mind that is always good food not far from the building where you work and when you're Italian in you know there's good food close you have a peace of mind

BUT, imho Adel's doesn't really taste as good as the original Halal Guys in terms of flavor and fragrance. The chicken from Adel's is in bigger chunks and some argue is more tender, but the flavor is definitely not close. Also, it's important that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and a little onion to balance everything out. Finally, You must get both the spicy red and white sauce together to make it all come together! The Ugly: The smell is addictive, so if you walk by, it's hard to resist, even if you've just eaten a nice meal somewhere else. We couldn't resist. Gotta hit the gym hard for the next few days!

And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. I've tried adjusting the hot sauce, going easy on portions... doesn't matter. Something about this food and my digestive system just don't agree. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it. The food is tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I just wish I could enjoy it without paying for it twice.

I do think they do as good of a job managing it as possible, but it is still quite the long line. If you do decide to wait in the line, I recommend sending a friend over to Magnolia Bakery to get you a treat while you pass the time. Overall, the lamb and chicken were extremely tender and flavorful. The sauce and rice were great as well, complementing them perfectly. The service is very efficient, and they do have a few cards set up to maximize the efficiency. It was great, and I'd say it's worth trying if the line is short! Otherwise, I would pivot to another nearby great option that you can easily find.

Adel's Famous Halal Food definitely lived up to the hype. Be prepared to wait--lines can stretch down the block, especially late at night--but the food is worth the patience. We ordered the Mixed Chicken and Lamb Over Spicy Rice along with a Lamb Gyro Sandwich. The platter was massive, piled high with tender chicken and lamb, flavorful spicy rice, fresh salad, and a generous drizzle of their signature white and red sauces. Every bite was packed with flavor, with the perfectly seasoned meat and spicy rice creating the ideal combination. The portions were easily enough to share, making it an incredible value for the price. The Lamb Gyro Sandwich was equally impressive. Stuffed with juicy lamb, crisp lettuce, fresh vegetables, and creamy sauce wrapped in warm pita bread, it was simple but incredibly satisfying. The meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, while the fresh toppings added the perfect balance. The atmosphere adds to the experience as well--watching the crew work nonstop on the grill, serving a constant stream of customers under the bright city lights, makes it feel like a true New York food adventure. If you're visiting NYC and looking for a late-night meal or one of the city's most iconic halal food experiences, Adel's Famous Halal Food is a must-try. Huge portions, bold flavors, and an authentic street-food vibe make it one of the best halal carts in Manhattan.
