Very fast, fairly cheap, very accommodating... Perhaps too accommodating. They roll with whatever punches I throw at them like a champ; asparagus maki? It's not on the menu, but sure, no problem. Make the sushi using brown rice? Coming right up! The only problem is, their brown rice is nothing that should ever be within 10 feet of a sheet of nori. Drier than week-old leftovers, those rolls crumbled at so much as a gentle nudge of the chopsticks. None of the vegetables within provided any more reassurance about quality or freshness. Fellow eaters seem to have better luck with the Chinese dishes, so you'll be far happier if you just stay away from the sushi. read more

Not the best food I've ever eaten, but I would order from time to time because it was close and convenient. Tonight is my last night. My husband was in the car for four hours today, so we decided to order delivery. It was incorrect, and they refused to bring the correct item, just telling us we could have a credit for next time. Used to have great food but has really gone downhill. Chicken and broccoli was basically covered with brown water instead of sauce. Chicken is like eating a tire. The crab wontons were filled less than they used to be, The Bangkok rice was supposed to be spicy, but it was not. The one good thing we like was the shrimp Shu mai. Lilac House is our go to for amazing food. Must say that the dish I had on Saturday night was awful and almost choked to death! I ordered sesame chicken and I have to say , the chicken was inedible. The texture and taste was like eating a linoleum tile. It was flat, hard, and even tried to cut it up before eating and that was a no go. Not very good. We have gone around the world on the menu and it's all pretty disappointing. The chicken and beef are particularly bad. The quality of the meat is so low grade. They are cutting corners. The chicken is fatty and chewy. Stick to the basics. The rice and dumplings are serviceable. My family says the Shrimp dishes are ok. It was a Tuesday and our go to Chinese place was closed so we thought to give this a try after hearing good things, what a mistake. First of all it cost nearly double of what our go to place costs for 2 entrees, a large wonton soup, and an egg roll. Second of all everything was dripping in oil besides the egg roll. The chicken with garlic sauce was barely edible and either entree had little to no flavor. The large wonton soup seemed to be missing a few wontons compared to a large at the usual place and twice the cost. The soup was also dark which was a little weird for that kind of soup. The one positive is they use good ingredients but it seems the cooking was a botch job. Plenty of other places to try as a Plan B on a Tuesday. Went here for dinner on a Tuesday night. The place might be hard to find but it's worth the search. Very quiet and clean. The food is very fresh, and not excessively salty like most Chinese food. This restaurant offers a variety of Asian cuisine - Chinese, Thai and Japanese were most prevalent on the menu. I've never been to the establishment, so I can't comment on decor or wait services. We ordered dinner from here twice. The first time, Cal and I picked the dishes. The second time, Cal's mom and bro picked them out. The first time, we had the sushi platter which came with miso soup. The platter was decent, but the wasabi didn't taste right. The miso soup was pretty good. We ordered the hot and sour soup, which I wasn't too impressed with. But the seaweed salad was tasty. We also had a beef dish, which was flavorful, but it was a bit too chewy. The chicken and veggie dish was really bland, but they gave us a ton of sauces to give the dish some flavor. I liked the Tofu stir fry and the Pad Thai dishes. The second time, we got the tofu and veggie dish, which was the same as the chicken one - bland. We also ordered peking duck, which was really dry. It was pretty much hit or miss here, but they gave us a lot of rice, a lot of sauce, a lot of fortune cookies, and a huge bag of fried wontons (so good, yet so oily!). The food is good but the service is average at best. Several times over the past 2 months I've asked for delivery and the food ALWAYS comes late. Although I understand that sometimes stuff happens, they don't call you to at least say they'll be late. Many times I order out if I'm pressed for time or leaving the house for a school meeting, gym, etc. the least they can do is be transparent. I was shocked to see how low of a rating this restaurant had. This is absolutely one of my favorites around this area. First of all, they don't charge extra for the hot tea. Secondly, their portions are huge! Ok, their pad thai is just alright, but their basil chicken and beef peppers are must trys. Plus, I like that they play music in all different Asian languages. Had lunch here two weeks ago, have eaten here quite a few times but not in the last few years. I like this restaurant. We ordered hot saki, I love hot saki, crab Rangoon and spring rolls, sweet potato roll, avacado roll and home style tofu. They put a dish of wide noodles and duck sauce on table. Rangoon was good, done in the cup style and filled with cream cheese, I didn't taste any crab. I did not like the spring rolls, they put something funky in it, smells and tastes weird to me. My hubby also tasted it but he's not as picky and ate them. We made a pact to remember not to order them again. The avacado roll and sweet potato rolls were really good. The avacado was ripe, the sweet potato had a smooth to crisp texture. The tofu was really good, just spicy enough. Service was polite and prompt. We will return. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday night with a party of 5. They got us a table near the sushi bar, where three sushi chefs stood at the ready. Our party stuck with cooked dishes and boy, were they GOOD. The sign out front says "hot wok" as if its part of the name. I think it must mean they're cooking FRESH and quick because the vegetables all looked like they'd been art directed for a magazine shoot. The eggplant was incredibly purple. The mango deliciously yellow. The snow peas crisply green. Gorgeous cooking. Not buried in thick sauce like a lot of asian places. The chicken and mango was really terrific. Mango was ripe and just a little bit crisp. Service was great, even though they were quite busy. Count me among the folks who are surprised that this place doesn't have better reviews. How does lilac house only have 3 stars. There is a constant line on a fri sat night of people coming in for take out orders delivery guys running in and out and an hour wait for delivery. I stood watching owner answer phones along with three others answering. He was able to answer and take order ring someone out and fill items in take out bag. These people were moving at an impressive pace. The food is great. Which is why the hour wait in take out deliveries. Sometimes an hour and 45 mins. Call before 5. I'm a long time customer. I just moved to the area and my work is less than a mile from this restaurant. I wish this restaurant would be my "go to" place whenever I crave for Chinese food. So I gave it a try yesterday and I ordered half roasted duck for about $18 total. The bag felt heavy and I was happy. When I got home and opened the bag, I was shocked to see only 10 pieces of meat in the box including two pieces of bones that barely had any meal on it. The weight was actually from the box of rice. The meat tasted stale and greasy. The sauce was so salty that I could not taste any flavor from the duck after I dipped the meat into it. I was wondering why I was told that I could not order a whole duck--I usually watch the chef chop a whole duck in front of me and put them into two boxes in Flushing Chinatown. I guess I have to go back to Flushing if I crave for ducks again--not for a while after this experience. read more

Was my favorite for many years but something changed in the past year and the quality is awful. For example, the mangoes in my mango chicken had the strong acidic taste right from a can mixed with the fake movie butter popcorn flavoring. I'm not kidding, that's exactly what it tasted like. My family loves the spare ribs and General Tsos. I always get a shrimp tempura roll, eel avocado roll, and egg roll. I usually go there to pick it up and it is always ready within 15 min! My family has been attending this establishment for years, the owners are extremely nice people and the food is always solid though at times better than other times (the hot and sour soup is the best around!). That said, our server tonight was the worst server I have ever had. It took her 20 minutes to approach our table. After ordering she ran off, and each time she returned to our table she dropped the food and ran off again. Every time we tried to get her attention she would just reply "Yes, yes, it's coming." She got one of our entrees wrong and then argued about it, as if we were the ones who made the mistake. When she place the plates down on the table she would huff and puff as if the plates were too hot, though we touched them immediately after with no trouble. We got entrees with no rice, Mu Shu chicken with no pancakes, no sauces, by the time everything was at our table most of the food was cold. Not sure if I will return for a sit down meal, might have to be an exclusively take-out restaurant. read more
