I wanted to give this place a good review because it's my home town bakery and I want to support my…read morecommunity. Also, the ice cream cakes are good and the ice cream is decent as well. However the owner is extremely insensitivity and cruel. On several occasions, I've heard him talking down to his workers and if that wasn't bad enough, he was rude to me on several occasions as well. He's very intimidating to speak to about just about anything! I've tried winning him over with logic and kindness, but he's just awful. During my last experience, I asked him to please clean the serving spoon because my daughter is severely allergic to nuts - a practice that the workers typically do before they serve my daughter's ice cream because there are other ice cream flavors that contain nuts. He nearly snapped at me! His response was that he knew what he was doing and he went on and on in front of other customers. I politely waited until all the customers walked away and tried to reason with him. I kindly explained that my daughter is severely allergic to nuts and has to carry an epipen wherever we go. Again, he replied rudely, despite my explanation and patience. He replied that he "wasn't going to kill" my kid. I was taken back! He said all this in front of my child. We both were stunned by his insensitivity and rudeness. Honestly, I wanted to simply leave and cry in my car, but I had to show face in front of my child. I walked to the register, paid for my order, and walked away. Since then, I haven't returned. I don't know who wrote all the recent good reviews - perhaps, the owner's friends and family. I'd scroll down to read all the horrible reviews because they're speaking the truth. The owner is outright careless, nasty, and has no customer skills whatsoever. Unless you want to be insulted and treated like a peasant, I'd stay away from this place.

Came here around 10:30am on a weekday morning with my daughter. It was a bit busy, the workers had…read morea friendly vibe, and the dining area was kept clean. My daughter got a classic plain bagel generously spread with cream cheese, which she enjoyed. To accompany it, she chose a matcha drink topped with strawberry foam, a delightful combination that was visually appealing; She said it reminded her of a cherry blossom. I felt overwhelmed with the menu and opted for a chai beverage with lavender foam, because it was pictured on the menu by the cashier. I chose to eat a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, because I heard a worker call out some one's order and quickly thought that sounded good. I felt anxious because there was people behind me, so I did not even read the whole menu. We shared an order of fries, which arrived hot and crispy. My daughter appreciated how they stood warm til the last bite. Afterward, I learned that Bagelman has been a staple in the Danbury community since 1984, known for its fresh, made from scratch bagels and a variety of cream cheese flavors, If I ever come back here I'll definitely explore their scallion or walnut and raisin flavor, depending on the bagel I get. They also offer vegetable, olive, strawberry, lox spread, and peanut butter & jelly. For those planning a visit, Bagelman offers online ordering through their app, which can be a convenient option during peak hours. It'll give you time to explore their extensive menu better. Their dedication to freshness make it a worthwhile stop.

The staff are lovely (a man and his mother) and speak Italian to one another. They make their own mozzarella, soup, and at least some pastries, if not all. Cannoli are filled to order and excellent. Another pastry (crostata?), cut into squares with a shortbread-like crust, cherry jam and chocolate was even more spectacular and something that I *must* come back for. The man told me it was homemade. The sfogliatelle pastry was a little tough and stale, but the thick, ricotta-rich filling was delicious. To be fair, these things have a very short shelf life. I gave it a few minutes in the toaster oven when I finally made it home and the texture was far improved. The son patiently answered my questions [e.g. how to properly pronounce "sfogliatelle," how much the fresh mozzarella costs (about $11 / lb)] and the mother kindly warmed up some pasta e fagioli for me. Sandwiches seem to be the focus here -- the menu is vast! -- but I sorely needed the warm-you-from-the-inside-out comfort of soup at that moment. The rich broth full of red beans, potatoes, and carrots absolutely hit the spot. It's too bad that it took a flat tire to get me in this place. We've been driving by for years and have clearly been missing out all this time!
