This place is my guilty pleasure. This place is open 24/7 and I cannot recall how many late nights I've spent at Liliha Bakery. (And my best friend lives right up the block too!) I think we can all agree the butter rolls are to die for! I believe I only get one thing when I am dining in ... the loco moco. Haven't tried anything else on the menu, but I can assure you everything is homemade. I always leave with my stomach full and slightly comatose. You always see these older Filipino women and men working in the kitchen and it feels very homey. Service isn't super fast, but that's because most things are made on the spot. My favorite things to pick up are the poi mochi donuts and coco puffs (especially the green tea ones). These are my kryptonite. I'll make this quick and dirty. I'm not a fan of donuts. Okay, now that I got that off my chest, even if you're not a fan of donuts, you need to come here and try their Poi Mochi Donut. It's definitely an experience of flavor and texture that is unlike anything you've ever had. It has the perfect consistency of being chewy, and even though it is fried, not oily at all. Plus, it's not too sweet and i can see people are buying them by the dozens. Besides that, the BF and I also ordered their green tea cream puff. Pro tip: take some of the left over green tea cream puff filing and dip your poi mochi donut in it. MM hmm. That is some sensation in your mouth. You're very welcome. Besides the gluten heaven that is the bakery, it looks like Liliha also has numerous patron grabbing some sit down grub here. If only we had more time, we would've probably tried out their breakfast items. I can't say that this is a pleasant place for gluten free folks (like myself), but if you dont have celiac and dont mind experiencing temporary pain (post consumption of gluten), their poi mochi donut really was to died for. read more

When in Honolulu Hawaii, Liliha Bakery is my go to spot for breakfast. The French Toast is melt in your mouth deliciousness. The rolls with the red sauce Yummmm. Please listen when I say if you want a great breakfast with excellent service you don't have to look no further. Liliha Bakery gets an A+ in my book. We use Liliha Bakery regularly for birthday cakes. Their cake decorator(s) are incredibly talented. While I love the bakery's pastries, the cakes just taste OK. Staff are efficient and pleasant. Star deductions is because it's the year 2021 and they still have you complete orders by phone. For cakes you can order online and then you either need to call or they'll call to follow up and take your payment information by phone. We actually had a very negative experience with this, in which I provided my payment information, went to the bakery at the scheduled time a few days later, and they could not find my order, because... they never actually charged my card. To their credit, they were able to scramble and get the cake ready (including the decoration) within a few hours. The lesson is to make sure that they actually charge your card after you give them the information. Happened only once, but once was enough. C'mon Liliha Bakery, get an online payment processor! read more

This spot is known for their coco puffs, but my favorite is definitely the poi donuts. Unlike many mainland bakeries, Liliha Bakery makes all goods mildly sweet, which is absolutely perfect for me. The items I tried included the butter roll, poi donut, and coco puff. -Poi donut: Moist, chewy goodness. I could inhale 5 of these in a minute. Krispy Kream does not even compare. -Butter roll: Buttery and just okay. I had these the next day, and I am sure that it would have been much better eaten fresh. -Coco puff: This little treat is topped by butterscotch frosting and filled with pudding. Also not very sweet and loved by many. Unfortunately, I do not like pudding, but if I did, this would have been very good. read more

Even though I have been a fan of their bakery, I only just visited here recently for the first time to sit down for breakfast. Parking is a breeze out front. Bar seating only it seems and it fills up fast. Menu is rather plain in terms of options, but if you aren't looking for anything fancy there is a decent selection of breakfast and lunch options. Unfortunately I was rather disappointed and though older diners can benefit from convenient location, customer loyalty, and get away with meager offerings; I was rather disappointed in comparison to what else is offered out there in other diners and restaurants. Don't get me wrong, the food tasted fine and not all diners have to be making artisan-level food, I think the bakery really floats the diner. Other places that are more focused on the hot food have more room and options for patrons. 3 stars for the diner, but add one if you're looking to carry out coco puffs specifically. It is a mixed bag when it comes to some cookies and cakes YMMV. read more

The absolute best item on Liliha's menu is their pancakes. Hands down. Many people visit for their cream puffs, poi donuts, or another pastry from their assortment of baked goods. But I visit Liliha for their buttery, soft, and warm pancakes that never disappoint. Usually, I order an entree and split a short stack of pancakes with my parents or whoever I am with. Each entree is made to order in front of you, and everything is oh so delicious. Most recently, I had the pork cutlet with gravy and potato salad. I ate it all up... and those portions aren't very small at all! It is sometimes difficult to get a seat, especially since their is only a limited number of counter seats. However, it is definitely worth the wait. Service is quick and you know the food is great quality because you see it being made fresh right in front of you. Liliha Bakery has been here for years. They are known for their coco puffs and cakes. I love them since I was a lil' girl. My mom would buy the lady fingers (this is what I remembered calling it) as a treat. The bread was moist and the powder sugar would go everywhere!! Anyways, I went to Liliha twice today and didn't take any pictures :( gah! This morning I bought the banana chantilly bread - one of my faves!- for a potluck at work. I came around 6:30am and there were a few people dining in and ordering at the bakery. Overall, a great time to go here! Otherwise the wait can be a while, but remember to get a number!! This evening, my boyfriend and I went here for dinner. hehe. We came around 6pm and it was a little crowded but there were seats available. We come here to eat their banana pancakes, bacon (extra crispy), and omelets. I enjoy the vegetable omelet and he gets the country style omelet. The vegetables are lightly sauteed on the stove and the cook neatly places it on the scrambled eggs. Country style is like a meat lovers omelet (IMO). Many of their items on the menu is re-heated in the microwave. Honestly, their food isn't the greatest - like 5 star dining- but it's still edible. Liliha is a home away from home. Before even landing on Oahu, I knew I wanted to try this place because I heard they make poi donuts! While honestly not being the biggest fan of poi itself, I still wanted to try the donuts, especially since they're such a beautiful purple on the inside! We went here twice during our two week stay and both times the place was relatively busy, but we had no trouble finding parking. The first time, we parked across the street near Pizza Hut and the second time, we parked in the Liliha lot. Upon entering the bakery, you pull a number and wait to be called. There were a bunch of gals behind the counter so we didn't wait long at all to order our sweets. On our first visit, we ordered two maple poi donuts, two original poi donuts, two chocolate croissants, one original coco puff and one chocolate coco puff. We were surprised by how light the poi donuts were. They were super airy and such a lovely purple color. If I were to choose between original and maple, I would say original, but the maple ones were still really good. The coco puffs were delicious, super cold on the inside. The chocolate croissants were dry, so we'd pass on those in the future. Before we headed back home, we had to make a quick pit stop at Liliha to get half a dozen original poi donuts to share with family. An absolute must try! read more

I was sadly unable to get the cake I want and they recommended me this cake. I love fruits and this cake was pretty good. I enjoyed how the frosting wasn't so sweet and the cake was moist. I was very pleased but I wished that the layers of frosting that was inside was different. I believe it was different fruits for each layer, couldn't really tell which fruits. Overall was pleased and I enjoyed it, just wish the inside of the cake was a little different due to not really my liking. I had even bought some other pastries they had like the puff and it was good. Definitely will come back to try other things. read more

NOM NOM NOM, one of the last places that I had to stop by for my Oahu wedding trip. I was told by the groom to try the Poi Mochi Donut and my co-worker wanted some malasada. Since we were on our way to the airport, we got the BLT and loco moco to go, but it was all delicious. The Poi Mochi Donut was different and it was chewy, but not bad. It reminds me of some buns, I grew up with in from the Chinese bakeries. I am not a fan of sweet and though tasty was still a sweet donut. The malasada was sweet too, but the apple one reminded me of an apple pie, with a crumble around it. The loco moco had a nice thick gravy and rice was perfect with the fried egg. The BLT had nicely coked bacon, and the beard was most likely made in house as it was not the standard white sliced bread. Came here yesterday to pick up a pastry for my friend's birthday and the wait was super long. I was in line for 30 minutes, only to be met with terrible customer service from a woman at the bakery named Jestha. To start, she did not thank me for waiting or apologize for the wait. I ordered my pastry and asked if she could put it in a nicer box than their normal white Styrofoam take-out box because it's for a birthday. She looks at me without a smile and says, "No. Styrofoam box only." I then offer to PAY for a nicer box and she still says no. Finally, I said, "okay, can you at least put a Liliha Bakery sticker on top of the Styrofoam box so it looks a little nicer?" She again says no bluntly. I then said, "Look. I've been waiting a very long time and this is for my friend's birthday. I would appreciate it if you could help me out a little here." She IGNORES me completely, doesn't even make eye contact, walks over to the register and tells me to pay. I get it if the nicer boxes cost more, but if a customer is offering to pay for it, why can't you oblige? Or, even if your policy does not allow it, at least be nice about it, especially since customers have been waiting for 30 minutes! Management needs to train their employees in customer service. There is no Aloha spirit here at all. read more

Parking lot here is small, so it can fill up; however, since the dining area of this place is only for maybe 10 to 15 patrons at a time, it should not be too much of a problem. If it is, there is ample street parking. I tried their poi mochi donut and it was so good. I love that it's lightly sweet and the fact that it's made with mochiko flour. I recommend giving this a try. A bit pricey for a donut as a it runs about $2 each, but worth trying as you won't find this anywhere else (at least not that I know of). My toddler ate most of my donut and I wished I didn't have to share it with him. We were almost fighting for the last bite. Sighs. I also tried their famous cream puff -- I got the coco cream puff. It's not all that good to be honest. After eating cream puff from beard papas for several years now, I expected the quality to be just like beard papas or better, and it was neither. I was sorely disappointed in the cream puff. It's not all that good. It's average. Nothing about it stood out to me, honestly. Save your buck fifty and go get a cream puff from beard papa's. I didn't try their savory food here, so I cannot comment on it. All I can say that seating is bar style, so def. not toddler/kid friendly at all. If you want to eat their savory food, you ought to consider take out, if they offer it. read more

Truly touched. Thank you to Victoria who demonstrated such compassion that it restored my faith in humanity. I was in Hawaii because my elderly father was in the hospital and wasn't expected to make it. I went to Liliha Bakery to get a slice of custard pie--his all time favorite. Victoria said they no longer sell it by the slice. When I mentioned that it was for my father who was in the hospital, she actually bought the pie herself and sold me a slice. I was so appreciative, I returned the next two days to purchase items for friends and for the nursing staff. My father loved his dessert and passed days later peacefully. I love this place! Especially late nights when there's no where to eat! They are open 24 hours from Tuesday through Saturday. Sunday they close early and Monday they are closed. I have so much memories here from coco puff and poi Mochi doughnut runs. And dining at night for their mahi mahi and butter rolls. Some of my other favorite pastries is their chocolate croissant and tuna rolls. If you haven't been here it's a must in Hawaii! The ladies working are super nice! My favorite memories are when Ive been here when I'm super drunk and obnoxious sometimes and they dealt with it. To one Fourth of July I bought their poi mochi doughnut for a bbq and I sat on the whole box. And I had my family looked for it just to find it under my butt all smashed! I was with a party of 15 and requested a gluten free meal, the waitress didn't have a clue as to what gluten is. Then the mgr. came and said I can only have fruit. I said other restaurants wipe down grill and all is good with me, but no she would not accommodate me over a simple request. Only takes a few minutes to be called and they box up the pastries of your choice on the spot. Food: We got a range of pastries since it was our first time and because they all looked so good.
