My nail tech was an older Asian lady. I came into this place last minute because my friend was Nextdoor getting her hair done. let me start with the good before I get into the bad. my nail tech was very sweet, and willing to try different colors to allow me to see what it'd look like. i showed her a picture of what I wanted which was a French tip almond shape. she cut them too short the first time, and she soaked them off and started all over. which I appreciated. she was very sweet, and took criticism well. here's where my issues come in: as she was applying the acrylic, each finger nail burned SO BAD. I held it together and didn't say anything because I assumed it was from her soaking my nails, but when she got to the hand she didn't soak, it still hurt and that's when I realized it wasn't the soak. it hurt me soooooooo bad. but I held it in because I just needed my nails done. Even today the next day, each and every one of my nails hurt. I'm scared I will get contact dermatitis. After now reading other reviews, I notice in the pictures, that same hand that did my nails. And it looks like she's been there for years, so honestly in my opinion, if I were the owner, I'd fire her and help/hire a new nail tech graduate. They'd probably do better, and yall would probably have less bad reviews. The owner Lillian was very nice and had a calming aura. And I wish the best for her! If I were her I'd look into new hires, because for a black business owner, I want better for her shop.... Back to the review: She shaped my nails so horribly. they were uneven, the French tip itself was terrible, I could've done a better job if I did them myself ( which I have before).she left polish on the sides of my nails, the acrylic also was all over my fingers, and as well as my cuticles. I literally went home and took out my nail file to shape them evenly and more precise. I don't know if it's because I do my own nails sometimes, but I'm very precise on the shape and details. which I feel like what I asked for was very simple. she kept asking me what color I want for my base or for the chrome powder. but I just feel like that's her job to do. I guess I can appreciate it because then I can have exactly what I ask for. but I feel like that's the whole point of the picture. I also had to take the nail file myself and shape one of my nails because she ignored the fact that it was very uneven. which honestly I don't mind, and it wasn't a big deal; but at the end of the day I feel like I shouldn't have to do that. they also allowed a customer to walk in 45 minutes past their closing time and asked for a pedicure. cool, but the other nail tech asked her if that was fine with her, and she said yes, and after that everything seemed rushed. I felt like she started rushing to finish my nails. i go through phases where I do my own nails, and sometimes I go through phases where I prefer to just pay for the convenience of someone else doing them because it obviously takes longer when I do them on myself. I don't know, it just gave that she was maybe new to doing nails, because they looked how I used to do them when I first started. I understand it's a business and they need their money, but for an almond shaped French tip being $100 when they looked worse than I would've done, I was disappointed. by the time I was done and ready to pay, I honestly just shut up and paid the money and left because i had already been there much longer than I expected and was ready to do. and I also knew the chances of me going back there are probably 0%.I may have another instance where I go with my friend to get her hair done and I need my nails done close by again, but I'll probably just go to the nail shop across the street. Overall, everybody was very nice, and I probably could have spoken up and they would've taken it well, but like I said I was ready to just leave. but everyone that I interacted with was very nice to ME. although I will say, there were two nail techs who were talking poorly about a customer who had just left loud enough for everyone to hear which I thought was terrible customer service. I work in hospitality, and its fine to have those conversations with coworkers in private, but very unprofessional to do it infront of other guests. I could sense that the nail techs aside from the lady who did mine had their familiar regulars, so they probably do much better work, and have better rapport. but as a first timer, I was disappointed. so im just taking the time to write this for the owner/manager to simply be reminded to be mindful of the environment, and potentially give my nail tech some more practice. do I recommend? not personally. like I said, the other nail techs may do a better job than what I received so I won't speak on the whole staff. but the bad mouthing a customer after she left infront of everyone should probably be discussed and avoided. read more

I am the type of person who believes in giving second chances and unfortunately this time around, it cost me. My experience at this shop was not a good one. I selected my tech because I previously had a great experience with her. This time was completely different. The work was rushed and extremely sloppy. I got gel polish on my toes and it was lumpy and a complete mess. I got a full set without gel polish, something I've done many times. I noticed the polish on one of my nails was peeling and pointed it out to the tech. She tried to brush past the mistake and quickly asked if I was paying with the same card on file. I had to mention the peeling nail to her again for her to "fix it." Without the gel, I know I have to dry my nails for a while. I dried my nails for 45+ minutes and as so I got out of the chair, every single nail messed up. I had somewhere else to go after the appointment so I used their chat feature to express my dissatisfaction further. I was able to get another appointment to fix my nails. The fix was done by a different tech and it is still sloppy. At this point, I'm over the entire experience. I wish I could get my money back to go somewhere else but I'll just take it as a lesson learned. Some places don't deserve second chances. They get one star for the ease of scheduling the appointment to fix my issues through chat. Actually, one of the things I did like about the shop is how easy it is to schedule and use their website. The technician was RUDE. She talked on the phone or watched tv the entire time. She used dirty implements on me and I got a nail fungus which I've never had because I take great care of myself. Have been looking for a black owned business and found Lillian's via a Twitter search. As a millennial, I am most impressed with their social media presence and online booking system. I was able to view examples of their work, view prices, and schedule everything online. They sent me a confirmation text and email and I knew exactly what I would owe during my visit. It means a lot to know prices before hand when looking for a service. When I arrived I was greeted by a receptionist that confirmed my appointment. I scheduled a soak off and Bria did my nails. The technician was cautious during my take off and was able to save all off of my natural nails. Bria did a pink and white acrylic overlay on my natural nail. That was my first time getting colored acrylic and I'm very impressed. Bria slayed my shape and kept me laughing during my appointment. Made an appt for 10 am, arrived early to find that another 2 women were waiting to be seen (one as a walk in and another with an appt.) NONE of the technicians were here. If we as customers make an appointment and are on time, the staff should be here 15 min earlier than the opening time (10 am). The customers should not have to wait and IF we do then we should be notified. I waited for 15 minutes for somebody to show up, nobody ever did. It's highly unprofessional and management should work with their staff on it. Sad because the reviews were decent. Will not be returning. Update. I found Lilian's Nails from a referral on Nextdoor. I was excited to know this was a black owned business and wanted to support. I needed an emergency pedicure and couldn't make it to my regular nail salon (loyal customer since 2010) in Laurel. Nevertheless, I made an appointment for Saturday, October 5th at 10am. I booked my services with Tina. I arrived at the salon at 9:50 and the receptionist was friendly and said my tech was almost done. Tina sat me down at 10:20. Disappointment #1. I originally booked the Mint and CBD pedicure priced at 45.00 but changed it to the basic pedicure since she was 20 minutes behind schedule. Maybe that was my mistake because she rushed through the ENTIRE service. She spilled the blue dye (see pics) that goes in the water on my toes so she spent more time scrubbing it off than focusing on my actual service. The clippings, the scrubbing, the massaging all done at the speed of light. It's now 10:46am (yes I'm typing this as I sit in the chair) and she's already putting the clear top coat on. Let's not forget she accidentally spayed scolding hot water on my legs as she sprayed the scrub off. YIKES!! Oh and then she swung at a fly and knocked my polish off (see pics). A great first time experience right lol! Oh and the review about the nail tech being on her phone. Oh that is true. Not sure if it's the same woman (not Tina) but yes. She was on her phone yapping while doing someone's nails. As a first time customer it was disappointing as I really wanted to refer this location to my friends because we love a good black owned business ran by a woman. The four stars is for Paris who did my nails and Laura who did my pedicure. They where both nice and accommodating,caring and took their time. They both showed great pride in their work. Additionally, parking is plentifully and free. TWO stars for cleanliness of the shop. For example, the floors are dirty. I really, really tried to like this nail salon, but they just made it so difficult. I enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses because I think it's important and all, but lack of customer service trumps all of that. I'm new to the area and decided to try Lillian's a few weeks ago on a rainy Saturday. I'm not one of those high maintenance women who need a massage or wine; just need simple things like a variety of colors, good work, and a clean shop. When I arrived, the overall decor was decent, but I wasn't really impressed with the cleanliness of the shop. The floors were dirty as if they hadn't put a mop to it in a while, and there were nail clippings everywhere. I also noticed that everyone in the shop's skill level is different, so if you come for a specific service, it's best to stay with it. Otherwise, you may have to wait for whomever knows how to do what you're looking for. As far as my service, Laura did my spa pedicure and Lillian (owner) took care of my gel manicure --nothing fancy. Lillian was over thirty minutes behind our scheduled appointment, I took notice to it, but decided to let it go since the work was decent. Now, I feel like I might've found a shop, but wanted to give it another try to see if there were any changes. Jump to three weeks later (today)... I arrive at the shop for my appt for Laura and Lillian. I purposely show up 20 minutes late considering I had to wait during my first visit and Lillian was behind...again. The floors were in the same condition as before and folks were continuing to pile in. Similar to my first visit, I noticed how overworked Lillian is. She pretty much schedules all the appts and answers the phone, and greets everyone. So often times, she has to stop serving you to do something else and then forgets what you may have told her. I think she could really benefit with having a business manager to help with these tasks, honestly. Due to patrons piling up in the shop, she did a rush job of my gel mani (pictured, please zoom in). This was my first time here! It wasn't a bad experience. I already don't have nails and I am aware so the technician kept saying I have no nails, no nails. It was a little annoying bc I had a gel mani done. The color was really pretty and I also said to slightly cut the cuticle and I guess she cut it too low and I was bleeding so that wasn't fun. We were already too far in so I couldn't stop, but she was made up for it with the little hand massage and the scrub that was used. I probably will be back eventually to give it another shot. Absolutely the WORST nail salon I have ever been to. They don't even know how to do a regular manicure, I have no idea how they call themselves a nail salon! I asked for a french manicure. I sat in that chair for 1,5 hours, paid $25 (and this is not gel!) to get what you see in the picture! Just french tips with a top coat on top. No clear white/pink nail polish on top. Just the tips! -which, by the way, got chipped in less than 5 minutes after I left the salon. They told me they have no clear white nail polish, and let me leave only with a top coat on my nails. At least inform me from the beginning, right? No! On top of this, the place was extremely dirty. I mean, ladies, do you not even sweep? I wanted a black owned nail salon and in my research I found Lillian's. I love this salon. I see Daisy who is a young Hispanic nail tech who is creative and can design any nail art you can think of! Lillian, the owner (she is black) is in the salon mostly on Thursdays through Saturdays. This is one of the best nail salons in this area. I have been to a few in the DC Metro Area. The staff is courteous and the prices are very economical. Also the products don't have that harsh chemical smell and they are of great quality. I definitely am a repeat client!! read more

I looked for a Black-owned nail salon and found this one. I was seen upon arrival and my pedicure came out fine. This spot is a nail salon so if you are looking for anything more - for example, a spa like setting with quiet music or a place to get a facial or some other beauty service, this is not it. I wondered if they have a policy on children under a certain age. There were 2 babies and 3 children in the salon. Lots of kiddie noise which is fine when I go to Chuckie Cheese, but not when I am receiving a salon service. This place can use a little tlc. Front counter lacked displays and information. I don't remember seeing art work on the wall. Cleaniness was moderate. Towels need an upgrade; lots of lint and old polish. Staff were warm and friendly to each other but, beyond the provision of service, I noticed very little interaction between staff and clients. This made the service more transactional and less personal. This place missed a number of opportunities, but I don't hold that against them. I paid $40 cash to the woman who did my pedicure and gave her $7 tip. She was working on someone else and was talking on her cell phone on a personal call (presumption made when she answered the call saying, "Que pasa?") when I gave her the money. Two hours later I receive a call from the salon asking me if I received the services and did I pay. What tha...? What in the world? Apparently, my ticket was not closed out and the woman who did my pedicure claimed that she didn't remember. So the lack of management and good business practice is evident not only in the facility's appearance, but also in the practices at the salon. This salon is not a good match for me. All the best to those who decide to try this salon. The owner may not know these things are going on, so perhaps she will engage in greater monitoring and have more of a presence. read more

I found this salon through Google because I wanted a salon with a Website and pictures so I would feel comfortable before I went. I booked online for a 4:30pm appointment. I had to pay a 50% deposit (which I understand from a business stand point). I walked in at 4:26pm. I was greeted by the receptionist, who I told I had a 4:30pm then she greeted me by name. It is now 4:45pm (yes I'm here writing the review as I go) and the tech is still working on another client. What was the purpose of scheduling an appointment if I have to wait? Plus I already paid the deposit! Not off to a good start with me!! I was in the chair by 4:48pm. My tech, who didn't even introduce herself, was on her phone (bluetooth) having a conversation. My pedicure started at 4:50pm with the tech still on the phone. I have a pet peeve about customer service. And so far I'm not feeling it! When I booked my appointment there was option to add a callus treatment. I added a note that I would like one. Didn't get a callus treatment. My tech has yet to say more than one word to me. I am disappointed because the reviews seem like this was a good place. WOW!! MY TECH GREETED SOMEONE ELSE'S CLIENT!! And I'm now done with this place! She has communicating with me by tapping my leg! And she is carrying a conversation with the other client! Taking time to show her what products she is using with my pedicure. She final talked 2 me! Not really! "You want nails too?" NO! "What color?" She hadn't even asked what color I wanted before I sat down! My tech has done a good job with the pedicure. I wish the customer service matched then I would be a regular. But I can't get pass the subpar customer service! I'm glad I checked my account!! The deposit was more than 50% of the service I booked online!! And they are trying to charge me the other 50% which means I will be OVERPAYING!! NO MA'AM!! The receptionist has texted the owner but I'm still here waiting!! THIS IS PROBLEM!! I went to this nail salon to get three color ombre coffin shape nails. When I tell you it looked like something I would do as someone who is not a nail technician, believe me that is what it looked like. I was in tears! To make a long story short I happened upon Lillian's and I texted them my problem and asked could they help me. I got an appointment the same day and the nail technician Reesie was amazing! I showed her a picture of what i wanted, she picked out colors close to the pic and showed me how they would look, and if I didn't like that we would try something else. She didn't rush me, but took the time to listen to what I was saying even made suggestions and made sure I was good with my decisions. When I walked out of that shop I was grinning from ear to ear. Reesie treated me like a person, and not like a dollar sign. I appreciate that in this day and time. Genuine people who love what they do and it shows in their work. Tina was about to do someone else's pedicure until I told her I had an appointment with her and she immediately did my pedicure. She did a great job minus the gel was not dry all the way. I had to come back the next day and Bria fixed them very quickly. Bria didn't seem happy to fix my toes but she did them and did not charge me. I searched and searched for a minority based nail shop and finally settled on this place. The booking process was simple and they even confirmed via email and text. The tech who did my spa pedi and SNS overlay did a great job. She was very careful about cutting my toes and fingernails with ease. Maria was super focused on making sure I had a good experience.
