It's actually Mediterranean food. At the urging of a friend, I visited him and we hit up Lilly's. Built in an old Taco Bell building, the owners are originally from Iran. The father of one of the couple is from Greece. Their take on Gyros are spectacular. The portions are huge. There is a 5in, 7in, and 9in. The 7in gyro will suffice. Packed with hot, warm, juicy meat, its more meat than veggies. The special yogurt is not some over-the-counter stuff you buy at a market. Its HOME MADE. The pita quality is delicious, toasted, and the gyro is served in metal wrapping. I will warn you that if you buy the 9in, the pita is thin and it is nearly impossible to hold and eat in your hands. The price is great. I got this huge gyro for $6.50 and it was like twice the size of the gyros that people rave about at Pita + in Creve Coeur. This place is a mom and pop kinda place. A 4 star quality food that becomes 5 star after factoring the price. They have dolmas, and kabobs and other offerings too. I will definitely return to try the other food. I didn't believe my buddy, but no I have to eat my shorts because I lost the bet that the food was that good. Hah. Such an odd place to find such a gyro. read more

I've tried some gyros before and have always been a fan of Greek food (mostly gyros) but haven't really encountered the wow factor until I came to this place. It's a small place and you'd probably miss it unless you're really looking for it but trust me, you'd want to look for it! I had the lunch special and the gyro turned out really delicious, the meat was not chewy which I've had before from other places and the sauce was really good. The meat was literally melt-in-your-mouth goodness and is so much more flavorful than any other Greek places I've tried. After eating about half of my gyro, I wish I wasn't full already because it was so sad to not be able to eat the rest. I definitely want to come back and try their other menu items. While waiting for my food, I could smell all the different blends of aroma from the kitchen and they just smelled so delicious! The place is nice and well-kept and like several people mentioned before, it's family-ran and they all seem so nice. I went during lunchtime and it was busy; some people had to wait to place their orders but great food is always worth the wait and what's another 10 minutes for something delicious and reasonably priced? By the time we got home the food was still steaming took the lid off of it!! Their are other places that offer gyros around town and their good, but the flavor you get at Lilly's is phenomenal. Lilly's is fantastic! The portion size is great, quality is great, and they offer a great variety. It's one of the restaurants that I wish I lived closer to. First time to Lilly's and we had a really great time. Came on a Friday afternoon with friends and we all had the lunch gyro special which comes with fries and a drink for around $7. The value was great as there had to be at least half a pound of gyro meat which has a pretty good flavor. The pita bread was soft and everything there was made right there in the kitchen. I loved that it was locally owned and operated; you could really see the pride they took in what they were serving. The fries are perfection, just as everyone has suggested. We sampled a few other items while we were there. The falafel was not that good to be honest. It lacked flavor and texture. Also had the baklava which also didn't do it for me. It was soft, lacked any crunch and was over saturated. Pretty sure it wasn't fresh. I'm told by my friends they have had the baklava there before when it was much better, so maybe we got the end of the batch? At any rate, I'll definitely be back to try their shawarma as I hear it is pretty good. If you are looking for pretty decent Mediterranean food that won't break the bank, Lilly's is your place. The Gyros meat was so tender and juicy. Add the tomatoes and yogurt sauce on the pita...it was really really really good! Especially for the price, it really exceeded my expectations. My only negative is I wish they had more selection of Greek food but I understand a lot of people may not order moussaka or grape leaf dolmas... Go!!! It's worth it!
