I love Chinese bakeries ! And this one is a great one everything is reasonably priced and delicious! They have so many interesting buns and cakes for you to try you could get something different every day. My favorite thing is the Taro ball from what I have tried so far it is such a unique ingredient and has a wonderful flavor. They also have a beautiful selection of cakes that are all decorated in a way that a lot of places in the area are not doing so it makes this place stand out, it is definitely a nice addendum to the neighborhood. They have seating in the back and a few seats in the from but my only complaint is they always have it closed off for some reason so I can't wait until they decide to open It up it would be nice to be able to sit down and enjoy my treat and drink there... It was a high tea time, and I cannot resist not to order egg tarts, but his place only have Portuguese egg tarts. However, it was surprisingly good and very affordable. No frills bakery with awesome egg tarts! Their buns are a bit fancier than your usual Chinese bakery and it's also reflected on the price. They are definitely known for their Portuguese egg tarts and people flock to their store to buy them by the dozens. It is definitely the most soft and fluffy egg tarts I've ever had. They keep and reheat pretty well in the toaster oven so makes buying a dozen easier and less guilty. Unless you want to eat a dozen at once. I also like their Philippino bread which comes in a bigger round tin foil. The only thing I don't like is their teas and coffee are on the lighter side of sweetness and they charge for extra sugar. read more

Opening a Lily Bloom by 86th Street is not only delightful to me, but super convenient instead of making the trek to 8th Avenue every time I have a craving. Portuguese egg custard cups - that's all you need to know. I was served these little tarts warm right from the oven, and they really cause you to have an enlightened outlook on life. They are light and satisfying; guaranteed that you can't just have one! The space is small, but serves its purpose. Very clean and beautifully decorated, it's very inviting. Bought egg tarts from here. They were fresh (still warm) when I picked them up. There's a lot of custard in them - the custard is super smooth and not extremely sweet but tasty. The outer crust is light and airy. I usually prefer the filling of egg tarts so I love the way this bakery makes them. :) read more

Horrible costumer service. I called to ask if they make fruit cakes. They said yes. It was super hot that day I went all the way there with a little kid - they said no they don't make it - they only have whatever they have on display. I said well you do have other kind of cakes as well. I had to pull up Yelp account to show them that they have other cakes. At that point - I felt like they don't care they acted as of I bother them and they want to get rid of me real fast. I wanted to order a few cakes for a bday party - but this kind of attitude is just a turn off. I guess they make more money on selling teas and coffee. And clearly staff don't know what they have and what they can make. If I was the owner I would either train them properly, or hire someone else. Someone who perhaps speaks English and can understand what customer is saying. Not one dollar I will ever spend in that store. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood! Come by here cause I heard their egg tarts are amazing and guess what, they really are!! They are $1.25 each and are pretty big. The dough is chewy yet soft and flaky. The custard is not overly sweet. They taste good warm or cold. When I came during the late afternoon, they had 4 fresh ones out the oven and the rest were from the display area. When you walk in, you're greeted by one of the ladies that work there. Basically tell them what you want and she will package them for you and bring it to cashier. I love going in there and finding a roast pork bun or hot dog bun for a snack, but every time I go in there, the fire alarm is constantly chirping. I've gone in three times in the past few months, and every time, chirp chirp chirp. I don't know how the workers stand it, honestly. The coffee here is pretty good and their teas as well. Staff is friendly and their is always someone willing to help. They have a prepackaged bakery on one side and fresh baked goods, hot and cold, on the other side. The cookies that they sell as very good! Their pastries, the first two times I had purchased them, they were not fresh but taste subpar/good. Their cheesecakes do taste creamy and fresh when I did have them. The establishment does have a seating area BUT if you have a stroller, good luck. Aside from the slope to the entrance, that is where the stroller friendliness stops. Since I couldn't lift a whole stroller on my own up the three or four steps, I opted to grab my coffee and go to the bagel shop to nab something to eat. Do try their goodies! Came here one day because Xin Fa wasn't taking my calls for my usual order of egg tarts. They're sister bakeries so the quality is the same. The space here is more modern though. There is seating in the back area where you could probably stay a while and put some work in. I didn't stay long enough so I can't say how good the WiFi is. My whole office is obsessed with the egg tarts from this place, and for good reason. They're amazing and filled with sweet egg custard. They're best when microwaved for 10-15 seconds so they're warm! They're even just as delicious the next day if you refrigerate them overnight and microwave them. I will definitely be trying more of their items, but the egg tarts are just so good that I had to write a review on them alone! read more

I'm not thrilled with this bakery. I went there recently after work during the week to pick up Portuguese egg tarts (to which they're known for) and they were sold out. The lady at the counter told me they aren't available until after noon time so this place isn't good for anyone who works an 8-5 job. What place does that for an item they are famous for? I wish they had the egg tarts available before 8 AM because I'd grab at least 2 boxes. This place isn't worth checking out even if their egg tarts are "amazing". Xin Fa is currently closed for renovations, so we were told to order their infamous egg tarts from one of their sister bakeries. We've never tried their egg tarts, so we blindly ordered two dozen egg tarts to pick up in advance. We didn't realize that they only served the Portuguese egg tarts, as opposed to the traditional Hong Kong egg tart. When we arrived, we took a look at their other offerings. The bakery is clean, sleek, modern and their fresh baked pastries are displayed self-serve style behind glass cabinets. We decided to pick up their coconut custard bun, coconut tart, lo mai chi (chinese style mochi with toasted coconut and peanut filling), roast pork buns and ham sui gok. When we received the egg tarts, they were still warm out of the oven - we quickly realized that this was probably the worst time to sample one. The tart had a consistency of soft scrambled eggs and the pastry shell was too soft. When the tarts had a chance to cool down, the custard was more well-developed and velvety. The shell was okay, I prefer layers of flaky pastry in a traditional Hong Kong egg tart. In addition, the bakes on the tarts were very inconsistent across the 24 that we ordered, some were very pale in color, while other tarts had a very dark topping. However, the other pastry items we sampled were DELICIOUS! The lo mai chi was so soft and chewy, and it was my favorite. We really loved everything else we sampled - the buns were soft and chewy with fantastic flavors, and the ham sui gok was crispy and greasy on the outside with that wonderful meat filling on the inside. There are no Chinese bakeries in the BR area so I was happy when this place opened. It's definitely a fancier bakery than your average Chinese bakery but to be honest, I do like their buns. It's not as sticky and sweet compare to the traditional ones. I was surprised that they even sold sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. Their cakes look yummy too. This is definitely my go to spot whenever I need by Chinese bakery fix and when I'm too lazy to go to Chinatown. read more

This is one of the more modern Chinese bakery in brooklyn and they have many locations, my sister is a big fan of their egg tarts but it is a hit or miss for me. They have fresh egg tarts in the back if you ask for it but if you just buy it off the shelf and it's been there a few hours ... it is just bad. What's funny is cause just when I purchased 3 they decide to take out a batch of fresh ones and if they really know how to do customer service well they would have just ordered to sell us the fresh ones. Good thing we were hungry and decided to take a bite out of one, it was so bad and gooey not in a good way I was tempted to throw it out. My sister decided to ask if they can jsut swap the other that we bought for the fresh ones that came out. Luckily they said okay, if they had said no even though we were standing right in front of them I probably would have never came back. They have japanese cheesecake and different flavored rolls. Really nice spot for a sweet treat. It's exceptionally clean and well organized. Staff is very nice. The Portuguese egg tarts are probably why most people come in and they are very well priced, delicious, and fluffy. However, there is a great selection of fluffy breads and cakes to satisfy any palate. The bubble tea was also surprisingly good- with soft chewy bubbles.
