But I had the honor of trying their mixed berry cake and it compelled me to write a review so I remember where to order my next cakes! Seized by the pull of gastronomy, my friend and I sojourned to Lily's Bakery for some beignets and Vietnamese coffee. As I take a deep breath, I ask the lovely cashier the ingredients contained in the Vietnamese elixir. She replies, "coffee and sweetened condensed milk." My immediate reaction, is there is NO way in heck I am drinking that....but my friend is convinced that we will be ordering a cup of iced Vietnamese coffee regardless of my strong pull against this hefty decision. Drinking calories a HUGE no-no for me. It is a capital crime, as far as this Asian is concerned. Now, I could have gone into an anaphylactic shock because even conceptualizing the idea of drinking my calories causes severe bronchoconstriction. I wanted to throw a tantrum of sorts because I do not recognize drinking condensed milk as a rational decision. But, my friend is a dear friend and how could I possibly respond irresponsibly? So, I concede. However, we agreed upon sharing one destructively-explosive calorie bomb. And, we order 6 beignets for $2.00. The Vietnamese coffee for $3.00, was capital A, amazing. The elixir is perfectly creamy and rich. I believe it was flavored with hazelnuts as well. It was a tad too sweet for me, but delicious nonetheless. The beignets had a fluffy interior encased by a crispy exterior. They were airy and magically delicious. The price I will have to pay at the gym for these trangressions is too much, and causes even more emotional and mental pressure that I am able to withstand. Old guys stared at the car when we drove in. They stopped talking and stared again when we walked in. It was like they never see girls before. Beignets and ca phe sua da. 6 pcs for $2 and a dozen for $3.75. I came here just to try its beignets. The lady was super nice and let me buy just half a dozen. My beignets were meh. It was huge and fluffy (+) but the oil tasted old (-). I honestly didn't care for them. I live down the street from here and have came countless times. They have a small but good selection of Vietnamese brunch food ranging from beef stew with bread or a baguette egg sandwich. They also have these tiny little sandwiches with ham, cheese and veggies that are delicious! What I usually get is the ice coffee and/or beignets. The beignets are 6 for $2 or a Dozen for $4. They are light, fluffy and with just enough powdered sugar. They taste better when warm so I do not recommend buying them if you do not plan on eating it immediately. The coffee is here is good but very strong! Sip slowly! The ambience is like an LA outdoor coffee shop, except here it is swarmed with older Vietnamese men. It might feel a little uncomfortable because they will stare at females. Lol. All in all, good place..good food. read more

It's very small place yet lots of stuff: drinks, cake (small and whole), appetizers, pastries and Vietnamese sandwich. Small cakes are like $2 to 3.50. Whole cake is $30 - looked OK. I think it's a little overpriced - especially they are in little Saigon (though it's located on the less crowded side of Little Saigon). Not so my ally. Decor is very simple, a little outdated, with a few inside tables and outside seating area. - Gluttony Expedition - Beignet: They gave me it for free to taste. It's kinda heavy. I prefer the beignet at Disneyland ...:p Cucumber lemonade: They use a blender - lots of cucumber in it. It was not too sweet. I like it. I was in this plaza cause i was picking up a prescription and i was told to take my medicine with foods, so i figure i should go get something quick... so lily's bakery seemed like the practical decision... i remember when i was younger my aunts took me to this place for their flan :) i used to loooveee itt!!!! on this recent visit i went in for banh bao (a steamed pork bun) and cafe sua da (iced coffee). the banh bao's skin was a bit too thick for me but the seasoning of the meat was just right. at least it wasnt soggy, i suppose. and the coffee was 'okay' a little too bitter, but not watered down like some cheap places... one thing i must note is that i was standing in line ordering and some random lady barged next to me and gave them money and said she wanted coffee... the guy took her order and her money first... wtf there's a damn line -_-' and also it's very crowded at this little place. crowded with creepy old guys checking people out... and the parking is teeerrrribllle!!!!! so if you're coming here, it better be worth it LMAO!! personally, ill stop by if im already there.. but it isnt something i'd go out of my way for... read more

Poor me. I never turn down free food...but I was forced to because I had just come from a dentist appointment!!! I looked up "asian fruit cake" in Westminster on Yelp and Lily's was one of the few that actually had what I was looking for. Once I got there on a Monday (MLK Day), I ran in (it was pouring rain) and was surprised with two complimentary samples of their powdered beignets! My boyfriend enjoyed it...I didn't. =( My mouth was numb so I couldn't even really taste it. SAD!!! But I did notice that it's different from the usual beignets; doesn't look as good but looks can be deceiving! Then to make things worse, it turns out they only made asian fruit cakes on weekends. If you would like to purchase one on a weekday, you're supposed to call in ahead of time to place the order. =( Fortunately for me, my sister also loves Mocha Cake and they had exactly that! They also have an almond mousse/jelly cake that seemed unique and interesting but I opted for the Mocha Cake because it was my sister's birthday. It came in two sizes, the smaller cake (pictures provided) was $16, which is decently priced! The cake was just alright. My sister's favorite Mocha Cake resides in San Jose but this was close enough. The beignet was alright as well! A dollar for 3 is quite a deal. This rating is for beignets. I came here many times for beignets and they were delicious. A box of 12 for $5 is not bad. Compare to Lynda sandwich this place had them way bigger and tastier for $5. At Lynda it's $4 and they're super small and half the size here. At lily you'll get a box full of 12 beignets 2in x 2 in with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. They sure are delicious :) Service: service here is fine no problem yet. The lady/ owner recommends me to try her sandwiches but I told her next time. The service is great but... the cakes are awful. I got the mocha, cheesecake, coconut and passionfuit. They were all stale like they have been sitting in the display for a couple weeks. If you're looking for the "BEST WEDDING CAKE" (according to my guests), look no further. We had a 4 tier wedding cake with alternating flavors of tiramisu and matcha. The guests loved the flavors and said it was just the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness. I was even able to enjoy it the next day as we used the top layer to sing happy birthday to my husband. The wedding cake was perfect and they replicated my dream naked wedding cake as if it was taken out of the catalog. Okay... I was thirsty for a drink, so I first walked over to PASSION 8? a boba drink place to get a drink. After peaking inside of PASSION 8? from a distance, it looked like a damn coffee shop! Guys sitting at the table, chit chatting and occasionally yelling, the big screen TV, and the little island bar... it's like a small asian coffee shop w/out the girls.. LOL! No thanks! So I decided to come over to Lily's instead. I got the strawberry slushy with no milk, the fruit roll with creme inside, and this quick and sticky snack... I don't remember its name but it's like this white sticky dough that you eat with cha loung? Yeah, my Vietnamese spelling is bad! Unfortunately, they ran out of their heavenly beignets because they were closing soon.. but it was only like 530pm on a sunday!! =( On the good side, the manager, I think, gave really, really good service. She is good at selling cakes to her customer. As I was standing there waiting to her to ring up my order, I watched her sell one of the jelly cakes priced at $45 to her customer... and she got him to buy two by giving him a $10 discount on the second one. I don't know.. it was good to watch her because she wasn't hustling them. Instead, she appeared genuine while still pretty much hustling them... if that makes any sense!? haha. Well, when she came over to me, she asked me if I wanted my drink to be remade and I asked her why because I haven't tasted the drink yet and she had the nerve to say that the drink didn't look good, like it didn't have enough milk, but I explained to her that I didn't want milk then we both shared a smile. =D While waiting for the other worker to bag my stuff, she sparked a short convo by asking me if I've ever ate at Lily's and I told her yes and that I enjoy her beignets and wanted some but they didn't have any! I go here often since it is close by to my house. A lot of the older vietnamese folks like coming here for their daily morning coffee and breakfast. I usually get their hazelnut iced coffee, which they're known for. Coffee is decent. Personally, I think they're a little overpriced and they tend to get my orders wrong often. But my favorite thing about this place is their durian smoothie (sinh to sau rieng). For those durian lovers, I highly recommend this drink! Interesting morning crowd with mostly Vietnamese gents getting their daily coffee and pastry fix before going to work. Even though it was freezing outside people still came here in droves and sat outside since inside seating was full. I'm a little disappointed at the quality and the service which this place provided. For one, they kept running out of goods and made multiple people wait until the items were prepared (mostly pastries). They probably need more people in the back or anticipate the morning rush better. The coffee is good and strong but I found granules of coffee at the bottom of my cup. I find this unacceptable for a place rated so highly by others. Nothing really stellar about the beignets either. Although it's the first time having it there are much better deep fried pastries out there that is sugar dusted/coated (donuts). It's a pass. Anyways, the parking lot was half full even though the vast majority of businesses were closed at around 8:30AM. I can't imagine how crazy it could get during peak hours. read more

Their coffee is good if you like it strong; I'm not really a coffee drinker, just needed something to go with the beignets. Well, the beignet is super disappointing! It wasn't freshly baked. I ordered 4 pieces and saw the lady took them from a box of a dozen with powdered sugar already on them. It was barely warm and soggy, like yesterday's leftover. If you're looking for something comparable to Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen beignets, or even just a decent warm beignet, this isn't the place! read more

If it's one phrase I learned in Vietnamese, it would be: "cafe sua da nhieu sua!" (Vietnamese iced coffee w/ more milk) Yup, you guessed it. That's my usual drink. The first time I tried cafe sua da there, I felt that it would taste even better (for my tastebuds) if it had a little more milk in it -- so my friend told me that I could add the words "nhieu sua" after it to indicate that I would like more milk in my iced coffee. I'm not quite familiar with their other products yet but I'm sure we'll get acquainted soon. Line gets long quick and the this place is a little small for standing, but the line moves by quickly. The only problem is, I have to utilize my time in line by taking a good look at the menu because when I hit the register I feel so pressured to know what I want and order right away. My best friend texted me about an amazing beignet place that she HAD to take me before she moved up to the bay area. Next time I saw her, she took me. She's been looking for good beignets for YEARS and she just found out about it from her brother recently. Mind you, this rating is solely based on the beignets and the atmosphere. Lily's Bakery definitely isn't a good place to hang out. I didn't like the environment so much. There's a lot of older Asian men just hanging out and smoking in the plaza. The bakery itself didn't look too impressive. However, the beignets really were so good. When you eat them fresh, it's so warm and fluffy. It's just dough and air and it's delicious. It has powdered sugar topping as well. It's probably one of my favorite beignets I've ever had. The best part is that it's only around $3 per dozen. It's cheap and delicious! Sure the beignets are mostly air so I guess you're paying for the air inside the beignet, but that's the way it's supposed to be! They are delicious desserts. A Doc I worked with turned me on to this place about 12 years ago and Ive been going ever since. I even had them make our wedding cake about 9 years ago when we celebrated our 15th year anniversary. Best Café Su Da I have found. The "mini sandwiches" are a unique twist to the traditional Vietnamese sandwich. The beignets are always a hit from young to old. Watching my kids enjoy them with grandparents is pretty kewlio too. I laugh at some folks who are angry that the service is fast with lil chit chat. I appreciate that, when there are 10 people waiting and one guy wants to debate the credit card limit it gets old. Come prepared and go. I love that service. IMPORTANT NOTE: The store actually closes at 6pm so don't go barging in after expecting them to make coffee or more sandwiches for you...like I did. ): Coffee: The types of coffee they have : regular, regular no cream, black, and hazelnut. Two sizes regular and large. You can also tell them how you prefer your coffee. For instance you can tell them to put less sugar or less condensed milk. Pastries: Their beignets are one of their most famous pastries and they sell out quick so go early in the morning if you want the freshest and best batch. 3 pcs for $1.25 and a dozen for $5. They tend to put small amounts of powdered sugar so be sure to ask for extra. Service: Fast and friendly. There are usually long lines going out the door but the employees know how to work it. The boss lady is super friendly and sociable. I've only been there 3 times and she already recognizes me and remembers my usual. I'm so deeply touched. This place has pretty good cakes. Not my favorite but it tastes good. For density, they are in between Long Phung and Givral where Long Phung has fluffy sponge cake and Givral is more dense. The outside buttercream isn't straight up butter like Givral. They work with fondant and have excellent craftsmanship. I'd give them a 4 star. The fifth star is for their beignets. You usually get one when you come in for free. I came to order my cake on a Sunday at 6 and they sent me home with 8 of them. I was pretty happy. Oh and their mini sandwiches are to die for. This is a long overdue review since like most places in Bolsa, I tend to become a regular and forget to thank businesses like Lily's Bakery for doing what they do best to make me become a loyal customer, over the past 15+ years. When I feel like rewarding myself with something decadent, rich, and creamy, I make my stop here at Lily's. I love, love their hazelnut ice coffee (try it "dam" = extra strong for a boost of caffeinated flavor & makes it less sweet). This is not a skinny girl's drink b/c they load it with a huge heaping of cream made fresh daily by the bakery AND condense milk. But that's what makes this coffee taste so darn good. It's a must try for anyone who can appreciate fresh, aromatic hazelnut coffee & for someone who has a few inches on their waistline to splurge on a few thousand calories! FYI, I did try their regular cafe sua da and let's just say I never ordered it again b/c it was way too sweet. I actually like my cafe sua da on the less sweet side (french press drip coffee with a little condense milk and ice...that's it = best authentic tasting for me so far is made at Huong Huong Bakery on Bolsa & Moran behind Phuoc Loc Tho). But here at Lily's, they add the cream (as mentioned above) to the cafe sua da and it just does NOT taste right/authentic for me, unlike their hazelnut one. Either way, this is my must go to place for some really good beignets (non-greasy, light & fluffy) and their hazelnut ice coffee (it's a pair made in heaven that you won't regret...except the extra hours in the gym to burn off all that extra calories you'll be consuming). read more

This is literally the ONLY place I've ever come to that have spot on beignets just like I used to have every morning while I lived in NOLA. I come here every week for my fresh black coffee with ice. I like the coffee because of it freshness and it's unique taste. it is different from starbuck coffee (black coffee). Lily's bakery 's coffee smell really fresh and awaken feeling, unlike the starbuck coffee where the coffee is basically in the big container. lily's bakery will freshly make each cup of coffee while i am waiting, so the coffee really smelly fresh and tasty. really enjoy the taste of it.
