When visiting the Little Saigon area I was told to give Lily's Bakery a try and I did. Since Vietnamese sandwiches and Iced coffees are my thing. I ordered the Banh Mi in chicken. Between the white bread there's no house mayo and the chicken pieces aren't marinated. You do get a decent portion of pickled carrots, daikon and cucumbers. Overall the sandwich tasted average and plain unless you have condiments handy to add flavor. As for their Vietnamese Iced Coffee its different, it's like drinking French vanilla latte. I don't think the Banh Mi is their specialty however, by looking at the Yelp photos I see more beignets and pastries than anything else. So I probably ordered the wrong thing. I'm not a huge coffee person, but their Vietnamese coffee is spot on and very strong! A little pricier than other places in the area, but better quality for sure. Their beignets are amazing!! Go early in the morning if you want them hot, fresh, and slightly crispy. The two times I've gotten the beignets, they just stacked them then sprinkled powdered sugar over the top, so the middle and bottom of my dozen wasn't sweetened. I asked for extra powdered sugar the last time I went, and it was perfect to dip the rest of the beignets in. This place seems to always be crowded, but I usually go pretty early in the morning so it makes sense I guess! Parking can be difficult because it is in a plaza with many other businesses. BTW, there is a $12 minimum charge for credit cards. I thought it was ok to use it regardless since I didn't see signs posted anywhere.. Browsing through my friends' activity feed I came across Lily's Bakery and decided on my way back to LA that I would stop by and pick up some ice coffee & beignets as I've never heard or had them before. Open at 6am, I got there around 7 and Lily's Bakery was already filled with the "usuals" outside drinking coffee & talking nonsense. I came in pretty quick and easy. The beignets were already in a box, and the ice coffee was already good to go. When I took a bite into the beignets, they tasted like a fluffy/donut version of a funnel cake. Not overly too sweet, but had a good chew to it. Dipped with the melted vanilla dipping sauce, and the beignets became a pretty nice treat with my ice coffee. I wouldn't crave for them, like say Porto's Bakery or Cream Pan, but they aren't a bad item to get if you are around the area and are looking for something sweet. The bakery has other goods such as cakes & pastries as well. For $3.50 for a dozen, and a large ice coffee at around $2.00, not a bad start to my morning commute. read more

Lily's fruit cakes have gotten so bad that I cannot believe it. I can't even finish it after just one bite. I just bought an 8" fruit cake on Sunday 12/17/23 for 37$ but nothing was good about it. I ended up apologizing to the birthday person I bought the cake for. I felt so embarrassed and what a waste of money! I don't know what corners Lily's bakery tried to cut but their fruit cakes definitely don't taste the same as they used to any more. I don't know why they changed the ingredients, but their quality is no longer there to ever warrant another purchase. All the fruits they used except strawberries and kiwis were canned fruits. Even the real fruits didn't taste good. I used to love the crunchy crust inside the cake, but it is not what it used to be either. It tasted harder and drier than before and it has no taste whatsoever. The spongy part of the cake is also tasteless. The frosting tastes oilier than before too. All in all, this is the last time I will ever buy from Lily's bakery! For years I have always bought from them. It was already changing to bad a few years back, but it is getting worse now. I've been coming to Lily's Bakery for years, but never stopped to write a review. That changes today. My husband and I stopped in late, about 30 minutes till closing. You wouldn't know the day was almost over by the array of delicious goodies and the warm smiles of everyone working. We were lucky enough to meet Lily herself, who showed us her fruit tart (decadent), her luscious cream puff and her upcoming Valentine's Day butter heart cookies (my mouth is watering just writing about them). As always, everything at Lily's is delicious and beautifully crafted. Little baked jewels. If you come for anything, try her coconut cakes. They're buttery, pillowy and fragrant and one of our all time favorite desserts (and breakfasts) ever. We went there on a Saturday afternoon anticipating yummy beignets. Well, they were hard & greasy and should've been tossed - not sold. Upon eating two, requested for new ones. They returned the box to us and we ate a delicious fresh beignet so we left and drove away. This is where the 1 star review comes into play. They only made 3 fresh beignets and returned the stale, cold and non-caloric worthy ones. So, out of one dozen beignets, only 3 were good. But the bad business move is what left the worst taste. I had a large birthday cake made for my aunts 50th birthday last night. it was pricy but SO worth it. the cake was beautiful, tasty, and amazed everyone at the party! the design was so intricate and well thought out. everyone asked where we got the cake from. the service we received was also awesome. it wasn't very busy when I went, and everyone was so friendly. they gave us a few pieces of things to try as samples, and it felt like I was chatting with an old friend as we discussed the design of the cake. The quality of the cake here is not worth the nasty passive-aggressive attitude of the owner. We came in to buy a cake for my mom for her birthday. My mom was trying ask if the fruit filling was made of real fruit chunks or just fruit flavored cream. My mom is elderly with some cognitive decline and was not very eloquent in her questioning. Her question was a little confusing. Instead of asking my mom to clarify what she meant, the owner replied, "What, you've never bought a cake before?" REALLY?? My mom's question warranted that nasty response? Or did your husband abandon you and leave you so bitter against the world? There are way too many amazing bakeries in the Bolsa/Little Saigon area to waste your time here and get belittled by such a disrespectful store owner. Go down two blocks on Bolsa Ave to Givral. The owner there is the exact opposite of what you'd find here. The other owner is the sweetest and most genuinely courteous baker you'd find. The Bo Kho was average, but one of the pieces of tendon was inedible. It was hard and undercooked. The baguette was softer and didn't have the crust baguettes are known for. One of those local joint in the heart of Little Saigon that's packed early in the day with the older generations of Vietnamese men/women sitting there catching up for hours over coffee and some simple breakfast/brunch.My grandparents have been coming here for years and now I still stop by every time i'm in town. Being a coffee snob, I highly HIGHLY recommend this place. The vietnamese coffee is strong and they use french coffee beans that are always perfectly roasted. I always order mine without the cream, it's not bad with it, just not my thing since I like my coffee with a punch. I've also had a few things to eat there and I really liked the pork buns, flan, and their breakfast plate with eggs/pate/meatballs and a few other condiments. If you're a vietnamese coffee fan, stop by when you get a chance and you won't be disappointed! PS. Decent parking lot and CC minimum is $12. read more
