While walking around Malibu I found one of the hidden gems in town and it was such a nice surprise from that day. If you have a love for true Mexican food this is the place to go! One of the hallmark features at Earl´s is an uncomplicated menu with few frills (the complete opposite to a fast food chain where overabundance seems like it was almost named as their prime target group) but more cushioned in traditional sensibilities. However, seriously do not be fooled by the easy flavor on this one. I ordered the street tacos, which were seasoned perfectly and had fresh juicy meat with just enough onions and cilantro. How spicy you like it is entirely up to personal preference but, from where I stand,. all the tastiest things in life come with a kick and this places homemade salsa was just enough of one not over power anything else there to mask any flavor. And it is a warm, chill place so not a "quick" dining experience. Natural processes take awhile and although it is inconvenient, your patience is part of the journey. The service was nice and you could see that they cared about the things which were offered. Honestly, the wait makes every single second worth it for the food. The cookbook is one for if you have some time and want the flavours to taste as though they were from a Mexican kitchen. Mine personally had a lot of stringy chicken in there and so it was hard to chew, and I had to spit it out a couple of times. The other ingredients seemed fresh and really good inside of the burrito. The main issue was the shrinking of the chicken. I wish that the hot sauce was it as hot. I typically like spicy things, but the hot sauce was almost painful to eat. But the restaurant is pretty big with decent indoor seating and a good amount of outdoor seating as well. A plus that you can bring your Doggo in the outdoor seating area. We got the Loco Breakfast Burrito, and it was DELICIOUS. One of the best burritos I've ever had. It is massive - plenty to share between two if you want. It's packed with all the different meats, cheese, potato, eggs... and the tortilla was just the perfect amount of crispy. Will leave you super satisfied. They also have a great horchata! You have to stop at Lily's if you are in or passing through Malibu. They are iconically known for their breakfast burritos, and because of that there is usually a pretty healthy wait. Because of that, I would strongly recommend calling in 20-30 minutes in advance, either while you are leaving Santa Monica or the beach, so that your order is ready for you when you get there. A few pro-tips: -The medium is big. The large is massive. The large is plenty big to split between two people. -The hot sauce is so good, definitely get some. And even though we got the large burrito, and shared it between two people, it was still more than enough. So if you don't want to eat too heavy, then I recommend getting a regular size, even if you're sharing. The green hot sauce was different and surprisingly spicy. Picked up some takeout from here for a beach picnic. We called in our order Friday around 5:20 pm and was quoted a 20-25 minute wait. Annoyingly, I had to provide my credit card number over the phone since my takeout order was over $30. When we arrived, the food was ready. The restaurant itself is seated in a cute little plaza with plenty of parking. There's some outdoor seating in addition to indoor seating at the restaurant. We ordered a veggie torta ($11.50), an asada plate ($16), and two tamales - one veggie and one chicken ($3.50 each). The tamale was my favorite. I can't speak for the veggie one, but the chicken tamale had a lot of flavor in the masa which went well with the chicken. The carne asada plate was okay. The portions were pretty big and the meat flavorful, but I thought it was a bit overcooked and thus hard to cut and eat, especially since we were sitting on beach towels. The refried beans were my favorite part of the asada plate! My friend enjoyed the veggie torta, though he said the bread was just so-so.
