My husband and I went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place was not packed at all. Loved the decor, pretty cool atmosphere. It's cafeteria style so you order your food then find a seat. We got the philthy sampler which came with 3 meats of your choice and 3 sides. We chose pulled pork, pork ribs, and brisket. We also added chili and a sausage link. The sausage was our favorite; it was spicy and delicious The other meats were all pretty mediocre but the brisket was really fatty. We chose brussel sprouts, beans and Mac and cheese for sides. The beans and brussel sprouts were good, mac and cheese wasn't our favorite. Only complaint was that the food, especially the sides, weren't hot but other than that it was an ok meal. read more

We were greeted by a very inviting and friendly atmosphere. The server asked if we had ever been before and handed us menus as well as pointed us in the direction of the line and billboard menu. The cooks were very friendly and outgoing, holding brief yet inviting conversation. The food was portioned right in front of you at a cafeteria style set-up. Great side options. Damn good BBQ! I had the Pick 3 and the Brisket was very good. I don't know if I lucked out with on right off the smoker or if close to it because it was soooo juicy and didn't seem like a heat-lamp BBQ. Service was lacking despite us telling the waitress we had to be quick. We saw a bunch of people come in & out for the "to-go" line and it seemed liked we chose to grab food in a foam clamshell, we would have been served quicker. We were there 45mins before we got our food. But the slow service was my only gripe. The food was definitely good. read more

Our first time here. The main entrees are pretty good, but the sides are not. I ordered pulled pork which was good, but their chicken salad was not edible and tasted like it was going bad. One bite was where it ended. I also ordered their brussel sprouts which were cold and had no flavor at all. I had been wanting to try this place ever since it opened, but for some reason had never made my way there. As today was my birthday, when my husband asked me where I wanted to go, I piped up "Let's try the BBQ place on Limestone Road!" So, off we went! Upon entry, I realized I probably should have done my homework. We stood awkwardly waiting to be seated, but then realized that it looked like we had to order our food on line and take it to a seat. I asked my husband "Errrr...should we go somewhere with table service?" Before he could answer, one of the employees from behind the counter popped out to greet us. I asked him if there was table service or if we had to order on line and sit down. He said it was order and then sit down and asked me if it was a problem that I had to order the food myself. I responded "Well, it's my birthday and we were hoping for table service." Totally my fault. I didn't realize this was the setup for Limestone BBQ. I wasn't quite feeling the order-and-seat-yourself vibe, but the employee did his job and totally sold us on the menu, so we stuck around. We ordered the sampler and got half a rack of ribs and brisket with an order or pulled pork. We chose Mac and cheese, tomato and cucumber salad, and Brussels sprouts as the side. We asked the gentleman how we could get alcohol. He told us that a waitress would come to our table or we could go to the bar to order. Because we didn't want our food to get cold while we went to the bar, we opted to wait for a waitress to come by and ask us if we wanted a drink. Unfortunately, that never happened, so no alcohol for us. So, we dug into the meal. Ribs were perfect. Nicely seasoned and fell off the bone. Went well with the Classiq BBQ sauce. Pulled pork could have been a little more moist, but perked up perfectly with the vinaigry Carolina sauce. Brisket was up there with the ribs. Nice color on it and very tender. The sides were ok. I was disappointed by the serving size of the Mac and cheese. I watched the server behind the counter scoop it into the dish and it was a truly uninspired scoop of mac. It barely filled the dish. It had a good, sharp flavor, though, so at least the taste was great. The Brussels sprouts were nothing special and were slightly overcooked and bordering on mushy. The tomato and cucumber salad had good flavor, but barely had any tomatoes. Overall, the meat was pretty good. Sides were ok. Not the best place for a birthday dinner. Really good bbq, we love the brisket, Mac and Cheese, the new potatoes and Brussels sprouts. They usually have tables available and the portions are a decent size. As a cornbread connoisseur, my only complaint is I think their cornbread recipe could do with some work. It's always dry... I've driven by this place for months, always forgetting where it was located. Never bothered to check it out until last night. If you are a BBQ eater, you should absolutely go to this place. Friday night around 6:30pm wasn't busy, walked right in. Was greeted by an employee who explained how things work, where to start and we could sit anywhere. First: very limited menu...but they do it well. We ordered the 3 meats with 3 sides. Brisket, ribs & pulled pork. Mac & cheese, dirty rice & Cole slaw. I've eaten BBQ all over the USA but don't consider myself an expert. But when it's good, you don't need to be a grand BBQ champion to know it. Brisket was super moist and flavorful. Ribs literally fall off the bone tender with a slight seasoning on it. Pulled pork was slightly sweet and tender. Sides were good. I went back for a very sweet and tasty peach cheesecake to tip it off. The manager came around to ask how the food was and if we needed anything. I told him exactly what I'm writing now. I had to call & text people while we were eating telling them to visit this BBQ joint. I ended up coming back today with two other people for lunch. Two of us got the half rack of ribs and the other got the brisket. Again, same quality and taste. Very consistent. Sides were the Texas taters which are mini Yukon gold potatoes slightly seasoned, collard greens were on the vinegary side and the cornbread was delicious. Banana pudding with graham crackers on top was so good. Highly recommend Limestone BBQ. It's off limestone road next to the wawa off Kirkwood Highway. read more

I'm glad I was finally able to stop at Limestone BBQ and Bourbon since Delaware is such a great barbecue destination state. In preparation for my visit I decided to try some of that BBQ stuff they serve in Texas a mere two weeks prior to my visit for comparison purposes. Basically you can drive over twenty hours for really succulent brisket, but since you're reading this, I'm guessing that you are looking to save yourself some time and see how this place compares. Here's what I found... The setup at Limestone BBQ is cafeteria style. You take a look at the menu as you enter, you order your meats at one station, your sides at the other, and grab some drinks and pay. You get your food, you grab some condiments and head to one of the many tables. Each table has a choice of three sauces. A traditional sauce which is really good, a Carolina vinegar sauce which is a little spicy, and a spicier got sauce that I did not try. They also have rolls of paper towels at the tables which is convenient. And they have country music playing in the background and decor worthy of any true Texas BBQ joint. But would the food compare? Unfortunately by the time we sat down two minutes after getting out food, most of it was only lukewarm. We both enjoyed the pulled pork which was juicy and tasty and liked the brisket. The brisket was also juicy and was nicely blackened but I found it to be much less smoky and tasty than its Texas counterpart. I didn't see any sign of a smoke ring either, but my vision isn't what it was two weeks ago so we'll chalk that up to aging. The ribs were...puzzling. They were a pinkish color and, despite my failing vision, they clearly did not resemble the brisket at all. I dunno how they were prepared, but there was no hint of blackening on the outside of the ribs. They weren't all that tasty either and were kind of dry. The sides we tried were just ok. I really like Brussels sprouts, especially blackened ones like the ones they serve here, but I found them to be bitter tasting. The potatoes tasted like mini Yukon gold taters but we're just ok and nothing really special. The recipe for the beans must have been devised by some underemployed cardiologist. They were a bit spicy and were really salty. I'm not sure how they packed so much salt in these beans. They were a little spicy but the salt flavor took care of that in a hurry. Our meal was served with a few pickles and three slices of white bread. For dessert I tried the banana pudding which was so-so. It had a caramel flavor to it but it was not memorable. Assuming you have not gone into cardiac arrest from the beans, after you finish your meal, you take your tray to one of the trash cans located near the exit and place your tray on the top of it. Or if you get lucky like us, you will have one of the friendly employees take your tray for you and save you the trip. Sure, Limestone BBQ has potential, but seeing how many other barbecue places have come and in these parts, I'm not convinced that this place is gonna save me a twenty hour drive. read more

This place is very informal. It is in a strip mall and is somewhat obscured by a large Wawa convenience store and gas station. My wife and I arrived on a Friday evening. Parking out front was good. Inside, the place, as I said, was very informal. There was a singer/guitar player as entertainment. There was no waiting to be seated but it took a bit of time to be waited on. I ordered the Tex- Italian; Prime Brisket, Hot Italian Sausage Link and side of sweet and sticky rancher beans with bottled sweet tea. The brisket and sausage were very good. They both had been smoked and came without being smothered in sauce. The sauces were on the table. I thought the sausage tasted more like kielbasa than hot Italian sausage I'm familiar with but I liked it regardless. The beans were a mix of various beans and not the kind of baked beans one usually associates with bbq. I was very pleased with the meal: the portions were good and the price was typical for a restaurant dinner. What we did not try was any of the bourbon or other hard liquor drinks, but the bar seemed to be very well supplied. The website could use some improvement; they list the menu items but do not show the menus themselves. They could also show more photos of typical meals as well as photos of the interior of the restaurant. All in all, I would go again. read more

The food is cold by the time you sit down to eat as you don't have a table wither! We tried this place last night for the first time and loved it! Food was great, we especially loved the pimento cheese dip and the Mac and cheese. My boyfriend likes bourbon and thought they had a decent bourbon selection. He tried the NY sour cocktail and I had a cosmopolitan, we both liked our drinks. It's a mix of a cafeteria and restaurant. You pick your meats, sides, etc... and the servers cut and place your order on a lunch tray as you move down the line. The barbecue sandwiches are pricey to begin, but they come with nothing on the side except pickles! If you wish to accompany your sandwich you must spring at least $3 additional for any sides, which, at any other BBQ joint come with dinner. That's simply pure greed. Stumbled across this place by accident and am thrilled that I was able to corral my bbq-hesitant wife to try it with me. Let put it this way, she walked away full, happy, and wanting to come back. The service is top notch. Aggie behind the bar is attentive and skilled. Ty behind the meat counter knows his stuff and offered great recommendations. The bbq - delicious. Limestone BBQ and Bourbon has been over for a little less than a month, and I've been wanting to try it ever since it did. There's not a lot of quality BBQ joints in the area, so this is a welcome addition to the culinary landscape of northern DE. So my co-worker and I had a lot to do, but we had tentatively agreed to try out LBB today. After some coercing, we drove out there hoping that the service wouldn't be too slow. We got there at about 11:20, just ahead of a handful of hungry patrons. There was no line (though a few people had already started chowing down). They don't offer table service, but rather they take your order in a cafeteria style line. You can choose ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken quarters, or sausage. I tried a deuce (two bones) of the rib and a 1/4 lb of the brisket. The menu listed the price for 1/2 lb, but you can order less. All of the sides are on display, and I tried out the cole slaw. Everything looks fresh and the meats look perfectly smoked. The rib meat was tender and falling off the bone. Sauces are at the tables and they top it off with unlimited house made pickles. Though they advertise four different ones, I only saw three (didn't see the white sauce). Drinks are in bottles, but there is a tap water dispenser. So, being in a rush, it was great for us to get in and out in less than 30 minutes. I anticipate that lines are and do get a lot longer during the lunch rush and they might run out of meat during the dinner rush. Anyway, I've found one of my new lunch go-to's. read more

Major League Disappointment. Now, I Love my some BBQ. I lived in GA and NC so have had some good barbecue. I tried the ribs and the brisket. While the brisket was tender and good, it had 0 smoke flavor and no smoke ring to be found. Similar for the ribs, but they were nowhere near as tender as needed. they required a serious pull off the bone, which is just a symptom of being underdone. The sauces were good and helped a lot! I continue my search for good cue. I do suggest smokey's smoke house, a food truck and smoker I Newark, that is good! read more

I've had BBQ all throughout the South. I must say, that I am thoroughly impressed. I had their pulled pork. It goes perfect with the vinegar based BBQ sauce. I had the brisket too (fatty & lean). It was delicious! The spicy BBQ sauce compliments the meats. The sauce isn't too spicy. But it has great flavor. The mac n cheese and the BBQ beans are great sides. I recommend it. My girlfriend and I were craving bbq and weren't sure if we'd be able to find a good spot in Delaware. We googled limestone bbq and just from the look of the food alone, we were sold. The place is fairly new only being around for two years so a lot of people don't know about it. The food was delicious. We had the sampler platter which contained three meats of our choosing (we chose chicken, brisket, and ribs) and three sides (we chose potato salad, Cole slaw, and Brussels sprouts). We added corn muffins as well as banana pudding and funnel cake for dessert. Top it off with some great liquor (the whiskey sours were banging) and you've got a nice spot that we'll be coming to more often.
