If you are looking for a meal that reminds you of a home cooked meal, this place is for you. My favorites are the Limestone burger, chicken and dumplings and chili with pimento cheese sandwich but the rib eye steak sandwich is to die for. The staff is engaging, friendly, quick to help and they make you feel right at home. Prices are more than fair and the restaurant is located just off I-75 between 2 small towns which makes it perfect to grab something to eat without having to fight traffic and crowds. read more

Dined here for lunch while visiting Mt. Vernon for work. It was recommended by a co-worker and I was not disappointed. It serves down home Southern comfort food and seems to be very popular with the locals. I can't believe that as many times as I've travelled from Lexington on I-75 South I didn't know about this place as it sits right off the Interstate but is somewhat hidden on top of a hill (and has a nice view). My co-worker and I split an appetizer portion of the fried green tomatoes served with chipotle ranch dipping sauce. I thought the chipotle ranch dipping sauce was a rather original idea as an accompaniment with fried green tomatoes, especially for a mom and pop establishment. I also ordered a side of cocktail sauce for dipping it's my go to dipping sauce for fried green tomatoes. I loved the breading on the tomatoes which was a little lighter than how Ramsey's in Lexington serves them. The beverages (I ordered ice tea) are served in Mason jar style mugs and added to the uniqueness of this place. I was delighted to see ribeye sandwiches on the menu and there was no question as to what I would order. The ribeye sandwich was served on a toasted Kaiser roll with sautéed onions and green bell peppers which I topped with A-1 sauce (and a little mayo on the top bun). The ribeye was cooked to order, tender, and juicy as a ribeye should be. I had fries on the side (average). I loved, loved, loved the ribeye sandwich! The Limestone Grill has a large menu and has a nice variety of Southern sides to choose from for every taste. They have a specials board when you walk in that featured some tasty deserts which I'll have to sample next time. The customer service was exceptional and reminded me of being back home in Southeast Kentucky. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that they served my ribeye sandwich without the top bun and I had to wait while they toasted it (no biggie). You can't beat the price, you'd probably pay double in Lexington for similar dishes. Look forward to going back and taking my husband who loves ribeye sandwiches as much as I do! read more

This place had a great price point, and a nice bonus for those with dogs is that you can take them out on the patio. Like many other reviewers, we were driving through on a road trip. If you are in a rush, you'd be better off at fast food. But if you'd like some local flavor, this is a great option. We tried the fried green tomatoes, and they were great. The burgers were also big and delicious. There have been many restaurants that have asked how I want my burger done, but then inevitably serve me something well done. But at Limestone they managed to actually get it right. The fries were also hot and crisp. I would definitely stop here again next time I am driving through. read more

My wife learned of this restaurant through work and recently gave it a try for lunch. She enjoyed it so much that we decided to grab a late dinner there while traveling south for Easter weekend. I ordered the ribeye sandwich with fried potatoes for the bargain price of $6.99 and absolutely loved it! The steak portion was generous, the peppers and onions flavorful, and the toasted Kaiser roll the perfect bread to tie it all together! Fried potatoes are a hard to find menu item and these were cooked to perfection...moist and tender with just the right char. My wife ordered the all-you-can-eat catfish (fried) but the portion size was large enough that she didn't need a second serving. The catfish was nicely breaded and the hush puppies home made. For her two sides she got fried potatoes and coleslaw. I sampled the coleslaw and loved how it was finely shredded and nicely sweet. It was so good that I would've ordered a portion for myself had I not already been full. Now for the service: our waitress and the other staff we encountered were charming and efficient. It is refreshing to encounter staff who are so polite, engaging, and genuine!!! Find an excuse to travel to Mount Vernon and enjoy country cuisine done right! It above the Shell station on the west side of the interstate. Was greeted by three different staff people. Sarah was our waitress and seated quickly (6 pm on Monday Night) drinks came quickly. She did a great job and was working hard taking care of customers I ordered the FarmHand breakfast with biscuits & gravy, 2 eggs, potatoes & bacon mine was ok. Not great like I expected the potatoes were the best part. Hot from the skillet. Biscuits were really good also. The gravy was only ok at best. And I could have used more considering the size of the biscuits. Nieces got the French toast and buttermilk pancakes. They both exclaim theirs was really good. The rest of the family got chicken tenders which was really good. Got a bonus with that meal though a small piece of fish both were really good The burgers were excellent. Black and blue Wanted to get dessert but we ran out of time. Lots of locals stop in so its a good place. I'll definitely visit again read more

Went there for lunch per suggestion of my uncle. We are from out of town but traveling to Tennessee we thought we should try it out. Ordered cheese burger and chicken tender meal. Cheese burger came out good-- about 30 minutes later my chicken tender meal came out. While my dad ate his entire meal (which was a good burger) the waitress came out 3 times to tell me my food was coming... they delivered my food to someone else and didn't own up to the mistake--how long does it take to remake chicken fingers? Answer- 30 minutes at this restaurant. And two of the chicken tenders were chewy but the fries were good. We will not be back. read more

A hidden gem just off Renfo Valley -Mt. Vernon exit 62. From breakfast to dessert you can't go wrong with this menu. We've driven by for years without knowing about this place now we find a reason to stop on our way to Lake Cumberland. We've had sandwiches , salads, soup beans and entrees and have never been disappointed. Give it a try you wont be disappointed. The staff couldn't be better. We were on the way back from Gatlinburg and this place was recommended by a local. I checked the reviews which were very good so we decided to give it a try. Meatloaf was a special (always on Sunday per our server). Husband ordered the meatloaf special with pinto beans, mashed potatoes and a cornbread cake. He had to put ketchup on his meatloaf to give it some flavor. He was not impressed with any of his food. I had a hamburger, which was good. The food took forever to get. It wasn't crowed so I'm not sure what took so long. We almost left before it arrived. I wouldn't go back or recommend eating there. read more

This is not very good. Tea tasted like sugar water. I ordered chicken tenders. Chicken tenders were cold and tough. They were not freshly cooked. Had to use a knife to cut them and chew and chew to eat I couldn't finish it. Waitress said they ran out of large tea bags and had to use small ones and offered water instead. My wife's salad with ham was just okay. No employee asked how the meals were so I didn't tell them. I just won't go back. I like to support mom and pop restaurants but not this one anymore. I feel compelled to review this place after my 2nd visit. First, I must mention the prices. This place is very affordable. The portions are huge for what you pay. Next, the food. Everything I've tried thus far has been very, very good. There are plenty of southern home cooking options to make me feel like at my grandmothers on a Sunday afternoon. However we walked in and it was so dark we weren't sure the place was even open. We got sat in the back near the bar where it smelled like mildew.... Textures in some of the stuff were odd like the honey mustard and beer cheese. Upon finishing, my entire family had an upset stomach and were in the bathroom for a good amount of time. The food was very good! I had the Hillbilly Taco and I enjoyed it very much. The booth bench was not attached to the wall and tipped causing my wife to hit her knee. No injuries, but the loud bang at the table did cause some embarrassment. The staff was friendly, but once our order was placed we were forgotten. We had to go find someone to ask for our bill. Once the bill was brought to the table we had to wait until we just raked together enough cash to pay. We just left it on the table and left. No one even was there for us to thank for the delicious meal. I would not have sent this kind of review if everyone was busy. Five tables is not busy.
