staff are not the most friendly or helpful, unfortunately ): and also didn't offer their alternative bread options up front - make sure to specify you want something other than ciabatta. there's 5 staff standing around and only one working on multiple sandwiches, so the wait was longer than expected. sandwiches themselves taste good but are more expensive, longer wait, and service isn't as great as other options in SF
The sandwich filling was tasty. Was a good blend of salty and spicy. I was given a choice and chose the Dutch bread but it was very stale. Other than that, it was a decent sandwich. The service was fast, considering there were about 6 people ahead of us. They had three people working efficiently.
3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.
my friends and I stopped by for sandwiches at limoncello after seeing all the rave about it online. there were so many options and we were also excited to see the deli was actually part of a larger italian grocery store and grabbed some italian sodas too! we were a bit disappointed by the sandwiches themselves- for $18, we felt that the proportions were a bit off. it still tasted great and ingredients were high quality, but there was a monstrous amount of meat and lettuce so it was hard to get any of the other flavors. the portions were huge though, which is a plus. overall, the store was very cute, clean, and seemed like it stocked authentic italian ingredients. the service was pretty quick since we just ordered at the counter, and they are all very friendly.
Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.
I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff. I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.
Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. The space has small grocery section and a deli counter. Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.
My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk. However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!
Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.
food - ordered the milanese without cheese and balsamic vinegar. paid at the counter and sandwich was made fairly quickly! it felt like less than 5 minutes. sandwich came with LOTS of meat, they are not stingy! I don't think my bread was toasted but I wish it was by default (or maybe my fault for not mentioning it). Overall quality of meats were really good and flavorful. There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. There are also chairs and tables outside.
Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, the store is clean, and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.
Two thumbs! Companion has been wanting to take me out for a deli sandwich for quite some time. He has his list of spots in the city, Limoncello being one of them. We were able to finally go and I was quite content! What's fun about Limoncello is that it operates as an Italian market and a deli. The shop is on the corner and decently sized, with narrower walkways for the market and open space for the deli. Highly recommend perusing around the store since there's a lot of cool Italian goods! We came for the food and walked up the steps to the deli. You can see all of their meat displayed along with a menu on the wall boasting their sandwiches, salads, and other dishes. For those who get food, they have counter seating plus a few tables outdoors. Service by the staff was friendly and efficient. They're also dog-friendly inside, and the pup had fun sniffing around! I honestly don't eat deli meat often or crave an Italian sandwich, so this was a treat! I got the Siciliano Sandwich, Dutch Crunch, No Cheese and Pepperoncini. Companion had the Goodfella, Dutch Crunch, No Pepperoncini. They mixed up our sandwiches and didn't label them correctly so it took us a while to figure it out. Once we did we dug in and it was so good! The quality and freshness of the meat and veggies were superb! My companion commented that they loaded the greens up compared to other times he'd been there. The sandwiches themselves are massive and I only ate half of mine, so it's great to save for later! Limoncello has a few locations in the city, the Sutter Street one being their original. Highly recommend coming here to try their sandwiches or just walking around the shop. Parking around here is limited to street parking only.

the sandwiches are so good and filling! we placed an order online and my friend's sandwich order got lost so the owner gave us a free soda to compensate for the extra wait time. prices for the desserts are decent too (~$6)! pictured is the siciliano on dutch crunch. read more

Ugh. The sandwiches are just so damn good. The ingredients are fresh, delicious, and perfectly proportioned. My friends got the Petto di Pollo Sandwich and Veggie Sandwich, while I got the Special Sandwich. We all loved our sandwiches and always try to pick them up in the morning to take on a hike. read more

We were looking for a Jewish style deli and this is Italian, but no problem. The sandwiches were delicious! I had a Turkey and Bacon and the hubby had Turkey and Prosciutto. The mixed greens inside the sandwich a light and tangy vinaigrette. MANGIA!! Well priced and a very good size (I couldn't finish mine). Very limited seating inside, but tables aplenty on the sidewalk. This particular area of town was amazingly clean. You will not be disappointed! read more

Rarely do you see a five-star restaurant or shop, so naturally I was intrigued. My partner and I were in San Francisco in the mood for some sandwiches when I came across Limoncello. My partner got the Caprase sandwich and I got the Milanese. My partners came with fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese on Dutch crunch of bread. Mine came with fresh pastrami sliced extra thinly Dutch crunch and roasted red peppers and so many other fresh veggies. I highly recommend coming here and they also have an amazing shop with Italian imported items. read more

I was in town for a few months and was on a desperate search for a good Italian sandwich that could fulfill my east coast deli craving. Limoncello did just that! The Siciliano was amazing and I'm not embarrassed to say that I finished it in one sitting. Whenever I make it back to SF, I will absolutely stop in again. read more

This place is good. I enjoyed the mafiaso and caprese sandwich. You get a lot of sandwich for your buck (I was VERY full after finishing one sandwich. I recommend splitting half a sandwich and trading another half with a friend to taste different types of sandwiches. Conveniently next to the market as well for refreshments and any other add ons you may want to have for your sandwich. Owner rang us up and was very personable. Workers here were stellar. I got The Alpino with pesto sauce (+$1) and the cashier asked me if I wanted to make it spicy, but he failed to mention that the spicy spread will also be an additional (+$1). Hence, I ended up paying $2 in addition to the original cost of the sandwich ($15), bringing the total cost to about $17 for my single sandwich alone (not even including tax yet)! Now... I wouldn't mind trying to justify the pricepoint IF the sandwich was ACTUALLY good... but that's just it -- it wasn't even close to the best sandwich I've ever had. The bread wasn't fluffy on the inside and it was hard on the outside (but not crispy). The sandwich tasted so dry and had no depth in flavor, despite the fact that I added TWO sauces. Hell, the spicy sauce wasn't even spicy. This was definitely a huge MISS for me and left me very disappointed. My girlfriend wasn't a huge fan of her sandwich either. I'm not sure how this place has an overall 5 star rating. read more

We wanted a good, hearty sandwich filled with tons of veggies and meat. This place definitely hit the spot. A great place to get Italian sandwiches, salads, groceries, gelato, coffee, etc! We ordered via Yelp which uses the Grubhub platform. It was a bit out of the way on our way home to the east bay but we decided to take a 15 min detour given the great reviews. The estimated finish time was 15-20 min after ordering, but our order was ready for pickup a few minutes earlier than estimate. We parked around the corner, free parking in the evening. I got the milanese sandwich and the fiance tried the speciale. Both big sandwiches, filled with layers of meat, and with the same large amount of veggies. I love to eat veggies so I am happy they did not skimp on that! The milanese comes with pastrami, mixed greens, pesto, etc. The speciale is a blend of prosciutto, hot coppa, salami, fresh mozzarella, greens, etc. Even though our sandwiches were hearty, we didn't feel like we ate anything too heavy or oily; it tasted fresh, especially the veggies. Nothing tasted like they've been sitting out for too long. Both sandwiches came out to ~$33 inc tax and tip. Kind of pricey but well worth it. I wish I asked for more spicy peppers, I love that extra tangy spice. I ate half for dinner and the other half the following day, two meals in one! We also shopped around the grocery and loved seeing different types of pasta noodles and snacks. We bought a bottle of orangecello for our NYE stay at home plans. In addition to the tasty sandwiches, the deli worker was extremely friendly. He greeted me, talked a bit about his sons and how he encourages them to do their best in life. I remember it well mainly due to the fact that it was on a 12/30 evening, less than 2 days to ending a tough 2020 year, and his advice was a reflection of all that we should be striving towards. Do your best and give yourself grace if things don't go your way, because you did all that you could and that's all that matters. Highly recommend this spot! read more
Picked up some subs before our hike in Point Reyes. The man at the register was very kind. He seemed like he really loved what he was doing. He recommended two subs. 1. The meatball sandwich Everything about this sandwich was on point. The meatball were soft and crumbled in all the right way when you bit into it. The bread was nice and soft. The sauce wasn't too tomatoey. The cheese melted into the sauce. 2. The Milanese I ordered the Milanese because it didn't have mayo and had pesto inside. There was a good amount of pastrami and salad. The dressing wasn't oily at all and the pesto brought a brightness to the sandwich. I felt like I was eating two sandwich in one. I did share my sandwich with my boyfriend and he wish there were more cheese but I thought the amount was fine so if you love cheese ask for more of it. read more

I got the veggie sandwich. This is probably one of the freshest veggie sandwiches I've had in SF and in complete alignment with what everyone says about this sandwich. I believe they carve out a little of the bread so that they have fit more veggies inside. I was just hoping for the bread to be toasted. Nonetheless, a great sandwich place and they have some nice Italian ingredients in the shop for purchase. read more
Mamma Mia! So good! How the place can be rated five stars for over thousand review? One answer: run the business like them! Such a role model. Walking in greeted by the friendly people. Even if the order or something goes wrong. You reckon and help them with care. I have seen the lady was engaged to help the guests and greet them as they come in. So humble for the successful business. And I really appreciate that. I tried Italian Sandwiches called Mafioso? It was really good I could taste that bacon and perfectly seasoned Turkey with hint of banana pepper gives me a spicy kick. The ratio of the bread and the filling were fantastic. I am not the sandwich lover, but I am now only with them. The design and interior is just so cozy and phenomenal. Reminded me of Italy which I only been once. It looked so clean and organized. Almost felt magical. The out door seating for quick consuming were pretty comfy. I would stop by for the sandwich craving for sure. I would even dare to go to some other placess from now on. I am a sucker for a well built sandwich Limoncello has a great selection or cured meats with fresh ingredients. The presentation is clean and sandwiches are made with love. I got the Alpino Sandwich with turkey, bacon and avocado, simple and so delicious. The Caprese Sandwich included fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, basil, balsamic vinegar and salt & pepper. One of my all time favorite sandwiches. The sandwiches were a little on the dry side, a drizzle of olive oil would make it that much better. Whenever I go hiking, I love getting sandwiches to eat because it's so convenient and gives me the fuel that I need. I am glad that I stopped by here at Limoncello because they have really tasty sandwiches with really fresh ingredients. My partner and I always like to get to sandwiches and split it, that way we get to taste different sandwiches. We ordered: The Alpino ($10.95): roasted turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese with mixed greens, salt and pepper, oil and vinegar and we made the sandwich spicy ($1 extra) The Petto Di Pollo ($12.95): mediterranean chicken breast rubbed with garlic, lemon and spice, Swiss these with mixed greens, salt and pepper oil and vinegar on foccacio bread spicy ($1). Wow, just wow. This is the epitome of a great sandwich. The only thing I would have done different was only getting one of the sandwiches spicy because it started to taste the same. My only complaint would be that they forgot our order and we ended up waiting 20 minutes to get our sandwiches. Two customers who ordered after us got their sandwiches way before us and it would have been nice to be compensated for our time. They mentioned that the Petti Di Pollo had to be grilled so it was warm, and that's the reason why it took so long. We ended up eating the Alpino first so it didn't matter. In the future, eat the warm sandwich first before the cold sandwich. read more

We were in the mood for some sandwiches and found this place. Fresh & tasty sandwiches. It's also a mini Italian deli and shop with drinks, Gelato and ice cream. Loved the atmosphere and the indoor bar seating by the window was perfect for our repast. Friendly owners and well stocked, this deli has a lot to offer. It's clean and welcoming and authentic Italian. Well worth the pit stop! read more

Stopped by Limoncello after checking out the Yelp rating. Charming looking deli. I had the tuna salad, siciliano, cannoli. They make the cannoli in house.(The tiramisu is imported from Italy. Frozen tiramisu isn't appealing to me; I prefer freshly made. So I did not try it) Overall, the food was decent. Surprisingly, the bottled club soda was FLAT. Not sure about quality control here. Open during COVID-19! A cute Italian grocery/deli in a primarily residential neighborhood, making it incredibly convenient to get my Italian sando fix without a long hike. The sandwiches are huge and made with high quality ingredients. You can't go wrong with any of them but I like the Goodfella and Milanese. I like the spicy sauce you can request to add on top. Everyone in here is so friendly! Makes me feel great supporting a local business during rough times :) read more

This is more than just a sandwich spot! Limoncello has so much to offer whether it's wine ice cream or cannolis. The owners were so helpful and treated us like family! Loved the ambiance so much, they even have an area inside as well as outside where you are able to sit down and enjoy your food.
