I've been to this place a couple of times for lunch during the weekdays, and it's truly the definition of a neighborhood gathering spot. Every time I come here, it's packed-feels like the whole town is there, which says a lot about its popularity. The menu is classic American, featuring burgers, sandwiches, fried fish, and even local delicacies like liver. My personal favorite is the fried lake perch -always freshly fried, flaky, and tender. I've also noticed many people ordering their sandwiches and other dishes, which look pretty good too. This is a genuine local restaurant where it seems like everyone knows everyone. Places like this are becoming rare.

Biscuits and gravy, waffle, corned beef hash.

First time here, even though we are local. Busy place on a Saturday morning. The food was great and we'll be back!

Expect to pay more when the food is of this high quality and this well prepared! We started with the Caprese salad. Delicious! Burrata cheese, greens, prosciutto ham and a wonderful basaltic dressing. A+ on this! Then we both had the Maryland crab cakes. Lump crab cakes on asparagus. Just delicious, easily the best crab cakes I've had anywhere in Ohio, maybe the best I've ever had! A+ again! Service was fast and friendly! The setting is on the Great Miami River with a wonderful overlook! Everything was perfect! As Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

The dinning room is nice, low light and low music playing. It seemed to get a little smokey in there but it wasn't bothersome. Our server was so lovely! And another lady that was floating around checking on tables was very sweet and fun! We really struggled with our ordering and "locking it in"...therefore we ended up ordering what felt like half the menu. For appetizers, we got calamari and the baked crab dip. The calamari was pretty light and delicious. The crab dip was heavy and but had a great flavor. I wasn't a huge fan of the chips but it was great with the bread that came to our table. The bread basket came out steaming and the butter was amazing we had to ask for extra. The butter is whipped and has green onions in it. Hubby and daughter each got clam chowder--it was different from what they are used to (and they are both clam chowder connoisseurs) but they still thought it was very good--just thinner and a lot more meaty ingredients. Daughter loved the halibut with risotto. Hubby really enjoyed the boathouse burger--bacon jam was new for him but he loved it. Though the burger was messy--he definitely cleaned the plate. My seafood platter was pretty good, I ate the scallops and coconut shrimp first. Then came our next dilemma...dessert!! So we each got one! Crème Brûlée, Highlander Grogg Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet. Everything was a hit!!

And for all those years, my wife kept saying, "We really should try Sam & Ethel's." Somehow, this was the first time we finally made it happen--and I'm glad we did. We came in for breakfast the day before heading back home. We arrived around 9 a.m., and here's a tip for first‑timers: call ahead to get on the waitlist. You don't need to be present, and it can save you a little time. We thought we were next, but another couple who had called ahead slipped in before us. It felt a bit unfair in the moment, but honestly, good for them--they used the system the way it's meant to be used. Once seated, everything that followed was exactly what a classic hometown breakfast spot should deliver. The menu is full of comforting options--silver dollar or plate‑size pancakes, buckwheat or regular, with or without pecans, all served with hot syrup. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. I ordered the BELT (Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwich, which was excellent. They asked if I wanted cheese and offered several options; I chose cheddar, though it didn't end up on the sandwich. Honestly, it was still great without it. I also tried a silver dollar buckwheat pancake with pecans, and it was fantastic--nutty, warm, and just the right amount of indulgent. The coffee was a little weak for my taste, but that was the only small miss. I also sampled some of my wife's breakfast burrito and my mother‑in‑law's toast and hash browns. The hash browns were especially memorable--you could really taste the potatoes, thicker and less fried than what you'd find at a Waffle House. The buttered toast was excellent too, simple but done perfectly. And I have to mention our host, who delivered one of the funniest, most unexpected lines of the morning. She walked up and said, "Can I hit anyone up..." then paused just long enough for me to wonder what was coming next, before finishing with, "...with coffee." I was briefly alarmed, then immediately reassured--and I couldn't help but laugh. It was such a genuine, human moment that added to the charm of the place. Everyone at our table enjoyed their breakfast, and the wait--especially for a Saturday morning--was surprisingly reasonable. My father‑in‑law picked up the check, which was a thoughtful way to end a really pleasant meal. After a decade of visiting Tipp City, I'm glad we finally made it to Sam & Ethel's. It's easy to see why it's a local favorite, and it's definitely earned a spot on our regular rotation from now on.

Took a while to get a table, get the table cleaned off and get a menu due to being under staffed. Once the waitress came to our table everything was wonderful. Very kind, helpful, knowledgeable server. Our food came out quickly and perfectly. We both ordered the skillet. It was incredible. One of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a long time. Well prepared, delicious ingredients to make an incredibly delightful dish. The breakfast skillet was so good. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked. The sausage gravy was flavorful and delicious. The bacon was crisp and was the perfect flavor addition. My eggs were cooked perfectly (I asked for basted-they were perfect!) Everything was incredible. The biscuits were so good. A little underdone but perhaps the was on purpose? They were really good. My son added pancakes to his order. They looked a little overly done, but tasted good. Portion size was huge. Ambiance was very mom and pop shop---very close quarters. Only one small restroom. Great restaurant with excellent food!!! Just know what you're getting into. Probably not very handicapped accessible due to stairs and small restroom and tight quarters, but delicious food with kind waitstaff. Go for the food, not the ambience.
