Line 51 brewing was giving out beer samples at the Rockridge indie food fest, and I added it to the must-go-soon list after learning that they had an Italian beef on the menu. Also, buses. The spot was very crowded - lots of families, I think for some regular event? Otherwise your standard big warehouse sort of brewery. But with BUSES. Ordered a flight and a pint for drinks, and a Chicago dog and an Italian beef for food. Italian beef was juicy and satisfying - maybe a little heavy on the giardiniera, but that's just a preference thing. My favorite beer was the doowutchyalike.

Friday afternoon and headed into the weekend, decided to check out Line 52. I pass it all the time but have never stopped in all the greats I've worked in Oakland. Have a buddy who is a former bus driver at SamTrans and geeks out on the buses, so in honor of him I stopped by for some beer and an Italian beef. Located the industrial area of West Oakland, just west of Jack London is a warehouse that doubles as the brewery and taproom. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, along with TVs to get your sports fix in. The centerpiece of the brewery, along with fermentation tanks lining the back wall is 965, which ran on Line 52 in downtown Oakland. The bus doubles as the back drop for the bar and taps that are keep cold onboard. Yes, you can access the front of the bus and drivers compartment. Very nostalgic. The beer offerings run the gamut from Pilsner and lager to hazy, West Coast and doubles with a porter on tap. Food offerings include Chicago style hotdogs and Italian beef sandwiches. The interior is concrete with brick walls and an open wood ceiling. Kegs line a side wall with a large walk in cold room. Very open, picnic table and high bar tables dot the interior, with high back chairs at the bar. Overall it's a very cool place to kick back in. Ordered the Italian beef, that was quite spicy, wet and flavorful. Dos two IPAs, Dubnation, which seemed to be the consensus favorite and One Inch Punch. Great to finally visit this brewery. Cheers!

Ok overall Michelada - definitely missing the chamoy, not well balanced was just like spicy clamato only Chicago dog - ok, just a hot dog with tomato, pickles and onions and mustard Busses were cool to look at, but Hella beat up inside my daughter didn't even want to sit in the dice seat cuz it looked eaten away and smelled like spoiled milk Service was ok, a little avoidance in the beginning but eventually came around Typical brewery Ambience, warehouse like Overall I may not return, but I'm glad I saw

Came here specifically because I had a craving for an Italian beef sandwich and this is the only place in the area that serves legit Chicago style beef's and hot dogs. I've only had line 51 beer a few times, and this was my first time visiting the actual brewery, primarily because it is not close to any other establishments. It's just inside the walking radius form Jack London, so we decided to catch the 3rd place Copa America match. The vibes inside were great though, really dig all the busses and there is plenty of seating, plus games and toys to keep kids occupied while you enjoy some fresh cold beer. Solid beer + food + vibes + service, would visit again.

"Great Beer, Friendly People, Great Atmosphere" The owner of this brewery must be a genius. I have never seen a brewery with a theme of buses. And hardly ever Line 51. Where in the world do they get such fantastic ideas? The two bartenders today, Gabe and Tori, were especially helpful and friendly. They really made me felt welcome. They gave me a lot of history of this business and explained the operation. I really appreciate their help today. They also have kids birthday parties in this business. Today there were a million little kids having a fantastic time. Absolutely a wonderful place for a kid's party. So overall, this was a fantastic visit. Great people, great atmosphere, great beer. Don't forget to try out the kitchen here. It's right next to the tap room, so super convenient. Be sure to say hello to the Chef, Willie. Congratulations to the owner of this business. You have done a fantastic job. Wish your business great success.

Free street parking on Sundays during BEARS games

"Bear down, Chicago BEARS" When the BEARS score a touch down, the crowd goes wild! Other teams play on the other screens, but the audio is Chicago BEARS. Clean bathrooms. Plenty of free street parking on Sundays. Real Chicago dogs with poppy seed buns. After Windy City in San Mateo closed, our family started watching the games here. Outdoor seating with a tv on the sidewalk. A block away, there is a church having services. They provide crossing gaurds and safety patrols. This is the place to be on Sundays if you are a BEAR fan.

**strictly reviewing for peeps w kiddos ans shout out to the owner for having a day reserved for families ** I'm not a beer drinker but my husband is- regardless - I highly recommend this brewery for people with TODDLERS. They have themed days and FRIDAY is FAMILY FRIDAY. If you walk in you'll see NOTHING but families with kids ages 0-4ish. Here's what will make this your toddlers FAVE space : - 2 buses (AC transit and old shuttles) - multiple bins with action figurines available for play - pinball machine - pool - space to run and play Food wise - nothing but yummy polish dogs . You can bring food for your kids. There's a nice beer menu and other alcohol drinks includes a $15 mimosa (you get like a 12oz bottle of Prosecco and a bottle of OJ, a few wine options and a michelada This will become your kids' fave place. Ours was super hyped and tired his little butt out running back and forth on the buses

I remember taking the AC Transit 51 line as a kid and it was never this memorable/fun. This brewery is a great combo of Chicago meets the Bay Area. Wonderful atmosphere to bring kids while you and the adults grab a tasty beverage or food. Also some nights are "Family Night" where they put out a bunch of toys, puzzles and crayons for the little ones. Keep in mind, wether it's family night or not, there's two real buses for the kids to play on or even for us adults who want to relive the days of having bus tickets, pulling the chord for your next stop and when bus faire was 50 cents. I really enjoyed their 1852 larger and for us light drinkers both of their pilsners. You can never go wrong w/ pairing your beers to one of their Chicago style dogs w/ mustard, onions, tomatoes, relish, pickles and sport peppers. Notice how I left Ketchup off the list! There is only street parking and they take both cash and credit cards. Even though it is a large brewery/tap room w/ plenary of seats I'd recommend parties of 10+ call ahead just to make sure you can reserve a table.

What sold me on this brewery was the fact that they have Chicago Dogs (my favorite) and multiple screens for all the games. I have to say, Line 51 did not disappoint. Here are the other great things about this place: 1) It's on the edge of Jack London and super easy to find parking. 2) One of the better brewery menus I've seen, especially compared to the breweries in Alameda. 3) This was a nice surprise but they are super kid-friendly. There was a kids birthday party next to us and plenty of space for strollers. 4) Service was friendly. I asked for the A's game to be played on the screens behind the bar and he was super nice about it. I've definitely had push back at some places because I guess not many people want to watch the A's games, ha. But with 5 screens, this is the main reason we came. Now there's always room for improvement so I'll just say that I wish there were other sides/snacks on the menu. I wanted nachos or fries so bad but all they have aside from a salad was a bag of chips. They were good but between that and the small dog, I left hungry. All in all, we really enjoyed our visit. Beers were great and we will definitely be back!

Another fantastic addition to Jack London Square's already vibrant brewery scene. We first encountered Line 51 in 2020 when they were just a table outside doing to go sales. On our most recent visit, they were fully open inside and out with the game featured on their multiple flat screens. Their space is super spacious and dog-friendly and I felt really relaxed sitting in their outdoor space. They also have a menu featuring a few sandwiches, hot dogs, and salads. Beer is solid, food is solid, customer service is solid, space is modern and open. What more could you ask for in a brewery? read more

A public transit themed brewery is a little oddly specific but I am so here for it. Line 51 is a good space, good vibes, and good beer! Very spacious inside with lots of seating. It was quiet on a Thursday night so I used their free WiFi to get some work done. On a busier night this would be a great place to watch sports. Lots of screens. Staff were super friendly. Beer was solid too. I had their pilsner and it was nice and crisp with some good flavor. They have food on-site but also allow outside food. So appreciate this option, but next time will opt for their food! read more

Been to my fair share of breweries and what makes this one stand out is how kid-friendly it is. They have two nights each week targeted at kids where they have kid-friendly food and also toys for the little ones to play with. And that's in addition to the fact that there's a full sized bus that kids can sit in and pretend to drive. Needless to say my toddlers love it here. As for non-kid stuff, the beer is fantastic. Food options are somewhat limited, but is about to get a major upgrade with a new chef coming in. Can't wait to try it! read more

Love this place, inside is cool retro buss/transportation themed. Beer is malty and in your face, "90s IPA" style for most content. It's not for everybody for sure, but once in a while you need a beer that slap's you in the face (Red Death IPA will do the trick for sure). They have good Vienna style hotdogs with all the fixings, my only gripe here are the dogs are just too thing for the bun:meat ratio (hence buying two dogs). They have big screen TVs if you're a sports fan, outdoor seating and always plenty of parking. in short: worth a stop for a beer and a dog for sure if you're down in Jacklondon or trying to watch some sports in a not too crowded chill atmosphere. read more

Great place , stopped in as my husband had on his list to try and truly a great choice . Very nice place, sanitized, wearing mask social distancing. The food and drinks was delicious we had Chicago dog, green salad dressed , wine and beer absolutely delicious . The staff and owner were great , warm and welcoming, nice chat with them . I really enjoyed my first trip to Line 51. The staff and Manager Russ were welcoming and friendly, offering good suggestions for what to sample. The facilities are very well decorated, clean and airy. Ample space is provided to spread out and multiple large- screens are tuned into nightly sports. There is also foosball and pool on site if that is your thing. The four beers I sampled were tasty and very reasonably priced. I particularly enjoyed the pale ale which had the benefit of having a portion of my payment going to pit bull aid. Didn't try the food this time, but they had several vegan hot dog options that I will definitely try next time. Parking is very easy and the facility is located right off 880 making it very easy to get to. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of it. As a born and raised Chicagoan I had been struggling to find a place in the Bay where I could get a Chicago dog or an Italian Beef in my 7+ years of living out here. Who knew Line 51 was right under my nose this whole time!? I had the Italian Beef (perfectly dipped exactly the way it should be) and a Polish (with the trademark poppy seed bun that took me right back to my childhood). Also had a couple of Low Motion Mexican Lagers that perfectly complemented my Chicago eats. Huge thanks to PT for chatting with us and making me feel like I was in a friendly neighborhood bar back home. Highly recommended this spot for the brews, the food, and the vibes! read more

This place was fantastic! It was our first time and we will be return. Great place to have beers, watch a game, have a birthday party at any age. Very family friendly. Lots to do and explore for young people. I really dug they had an N64 set up and kids where playing Mario Kart 64. The beer was good. Yummy snacks. Clean bathrooms. Buses! We stumbled across this brewery while out on a bike ride with some friends. Cruising along and one of them took a hard left directly into Line 51. The shop is awesome - decked out with an actual bus hosting the tap lines, beautiful and clean wood rafters, great TV set up. We walked in and PT, the owner, came right up to greet us. He let us bring our bikes inside and introduced himself and Line 51. The second time I stopped by, PT remembered us and that we had just moved from Ohio. We had our dog so we had to stay outside, but he immediately sent out a TV so we could watch the Big Ten games. Great beer selection, so far I've liked everything I've tried. I'm an IPA person but hate the hazy trend. He had several West Coast IPAs on tap, which have all been tasty. My wife likes pilsners and reds, all them have been on point as well. Being a Midwesterner, I was so pumped to see a Vienna Beef sign! They have a legit Chicago dog and a delicious Italian beef. Come in for the good beer, stay for the tasty eats and friendly atmosphere. Can't recommend enough. We've already brought several friends to visit and they loved it as much. Last, but definitely not least, they had NFL Sunday Ticket so you can get your local football fix from across the country. read more

Came in here on a whim when I realized Old Kan has been closed, and honestly it was the best decision. What a cool vibe! Multiple types of sports games playing on the tvs meant it was a welcoming place for all fans. We saw Cubs, Patriots, NY Giants, A's, Bears, and 49ers fans. There were kids running around and playing, to which our one year old immediately ran over and joined, and he had THE BEST time pretending to drive one of the three buses they have installed inside. Not to mention the great beer and awesome food! I absolutely loved that they had vegan options - a must for me - as well as other no-frills stadium style foods. All in all, I can't wait to come back and bring friends! This place is kid friendly, vegan friendly, and all-sports fans friendly; what more can you ask for? read more

The best Chicago joint in the Bay (and family-friendly brewery). Friday nights are family nights but if you hate kids just go on a football Sunday and you'll be fine. Chicago dogs are perfect, and the beers are divine. People are cool too! read more

The best place in the Bay Area to get REAL Chicago dogs and Italian beef! They serve the actual Vienna beef, giardiniera, sport peppers, relish and have poppy seed buns for the dogs and they know how to properly dip the Italian beef sandwich. They don't just slap a pickle and tomato on a basic hotdog and call it a Chicago dog. This is the closest to the real thing I have been able to find outside the midwest. The owners and staff are great people and are super nice and helpful. Nice, big, open space with lots of TVs and games. Oh, and they have some pretty good beer too! read more

Line 51 (AC transit) wasn't serving booze whilst i was commuting to Oak. Tech. High. doesn't matter that i wasn't of legal age then. just the facts! i always took the bus to Tech.(since i always overslept) and walked home (since i always literally missed the bus). fast forward to the soft opening a few months ago. Line 51 is located opposite mr. coffee roastery. the 2 line 51 themed buses on the corner are easy tells. during the shelter in place, they are offering pickup and delivery every day. easy ordering either ordering online, by phone, or walkup. pickup is at table outside the venue. i'm stoked my minamist miscues have been memorized by local entrepreneurs who believe in oaktown and it's residents. oaktowners have always struggled to survive. timesup! to support locals and not only outside interests with no local roots. Line 51 Brewing is a local owned brewery. yes, there are many. it's ok to spread your libations amongst the many locally owned bars/breweries. Line 51 inside has a large communal seating arrangement ala fieldworks. parking aplenty nearby in off hours. offerings: beers in 22 oz. bottles to go, salads, chicago dogs, italian beef sandwich, sodas. etc. eats: josephine salad (8.50) -mixed leaf lettuce with columbus salumi slices, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions,,,,,with secret salad dressing ( a dense mix of balsalmic vinegarette with many secret ingredients. ) drink: "stay the f' home" imperial ipa (11), 8.5% alc. -impressive, smooth dark brew, amongst the best is JLQ area. no harsh notes at all. next level brewing! can't walk till the shelter in place is over. another iconic addition to the JLQ area to enjoy!. read more

I came here for the playoffs game for the 49ers, and enjoyed my time, to say the least! From the sample flights to the beer tenders, it did not disappoint. I do wish there were more options for snacks but it's better than nothing. They offer chips, hot dogs, and nachos but in different varieties. It was also kid-friendly as it included board games. There are lots of tables and projector screens/TVs to watch the game. I will definitely be back. read more

Amazing place - PT - the owner personally came over and spent 30 minutes on questions I had about the beer. He is a very genuine person and single handedly has built a fun place to hang that's not just a bar. The ceiling are high and it doesn't feel stuffy. You feel like you're in a brewery. I am in the beer industry and I'd give his IPA a 9/10. The Pilsner is also phenomenal. PT weathered the COVID storm! Support one of our last local breweries AND they're now selling cans in local stores. read more

Horrible, never again. Overrun with screaming children, hot dog took over an hour to come out, crowd was weird, not representative of Oakland. Music and band were so loud and overwhelming. The workers look stretched thin and miserable. Where the fuck am I? I hate it here. Hotdogs are bomb though. read more

We were on the hunt for a brewery in the area and found this phenomenal location that's believe it or not kid friendly with board games!!!!!! This place has it all! I tried two beers and fell in love with the red death, tasty, crisp and refreshing. Now let's talk about the food! OMG The best hotdog I have had in a long time! I recommend the Chicago style. The spicy is delicious too! I want to try the beef sandwich next time! There will be a next time! read more

I needed a quick bite and was craving a hot dog. What I found was a giant warehouse full of buses and ginormous TV's and a mess of vats brewing beer. I ordered a giant Chicago dog and it was deeeelicious. Giant hot dog from the Windy City on a poppyseed bun - not your fluffy Wonder Bread bun but a proper bun filled with fixings like onion, a green relish that tasted really good and a crispy juicy long pickle with two fat slices of fresh red tomatoes. Let me tell you, it was beyond my wildest expectations. The football game was on the screen and the beer was calling out to me. Since I had to drive, I skipped the beer and chatted up the owner. Folks, give these guys a try. They have real authentic Polish dogs (Vienna Beef!!) I'm coming back for more sampling. Check out the photos. This place will be great for parties! They opened just before the pandemic. Help keep them alive. Stop by during the day on the weekend. Plenty of room and it feels like you are outdoors. Wear a jacket. 1.5 stars rounded up. The space itself is really nice, but after visiting for open mic a few times, I'm not interested in returning. On multiple occasions, regulars have taken it upon themselves to constantly invade my groups personal space, touch my friend without her consent, and stare at us from across the way. Tonight someone made motions for me to smile after my mood was brought down by them. I cannot in good faith recommend this spot to any folks under the age of 30, especially if you're femme presenting. My real final straw, is that I was told the kitchen was closed early tonight, only to see another person be served food from the kitchen. I'd rather grab a beer elsewhere, than suffer through being made uncomfortable in the space. read more

I've had their beer but never visited the brewery. Found this place as some friends from college were in town and we wanted a place that would show the game, had outdoor seating, and was kid-friendly. Line 51 knocked it out of the park. The manager set us up with a tent and a tv to show the game and everyone who showed up was wowed by the venue. Management and service staff went above and beyond. Will definitely recommend and be back here. read more

I firmly believe we have the best breweries quality-wise of anywhere. They had the flea market going while we were here which was kind of funny to me because most of the sellers had the same thing but it's nice to have and this is a perfect place for it. Parking was kind of crowded but that's to be expected with a popular place like this. Definitely one of the best physical breweries to go to in the Bay Area and great beer here.

I've been coming here for awhile, ever since one fine afternoon I was in town on business and was feeling a need for craft beer. I was once the world's predominant authority on craft beer in my own mind, but years of chugging ales have decimated my tolerance for it. Anywho, the first thing you'll notice about this spot is it's out there, pretty far off from downtown Alameda tucked away in an old military pier alongside some other more enterprising establishments. Lots of parking so there's that. Inside, they are definitely doing that thang, massive brewery stacks dominate the background but the space is massive so it supports an almost endless amount of tables, benches, and spots to hide out. Arcade machines, outdoor activities (even a kids sandbox) really add the "Adventureland" elements that make it more than just a standard brew joint. If you've had their beer, it's definitely on the expensive side, but they keep a healthy variety that I would say is all reliably refined and delicious. Its no 2000 era Bells or modern day Founders, but I particularly like their love hazy and the Mexican style lagers. My friends who like sours say they are also quite good. Although this place is really not directly affiliated with the business it's definitely a reason I go so I can't leave it out -- they have food trucks outside that handle most of the food there and the one they have there always has one of the best burgers I've ever had in the bay, hands down. It's a blackened blueberry and blue cheese burger and even though I don't like blue cheese, this unholy alliance is faaaaaaan-friggin-tastic. Must try. Service is casual, they do flights which is a great way to try things. Not sure about any happy hours, would love to see them get a mug/growler thing going here for discounts, they might have something already I'm just not aware of but nothing is obvious when I've gone. California doesn't really do the beer garden thing like we do in the Midwest, you'll find spots like this all over Michigan so it's nice to see something of the same type here finally. Personally, I cannot stand seeing dogs at restaurants and bars so even if they do allow it, those aren't your kids, can we start reporting places that allow dogs without signage? The space has a strong punk rock vibe with skeleton and demon artwork throughout. It gives the brewery a distinct personality and definitely stands out compared to more traditional brewery spaces. They do have some food offerings as well. Always greeted with friendly service. I love that they collaborate and have lots of events going on. That's how I heard about their annual chili cook-off! Plenty of parking available. Just don't park in front of the parklets. I got ticketed there once since the red on the curb was faded and discovered after the fact that there was a fire hydrant hidden behind the tree. The kabeb dishes came with grilled tomato, grilled pepper, rice with tadig on top. They also make this pink butter to put on the rice. Food is good and everything was seasoned well and not over cooked. I want to give this place a try again but they need to work on their customer service. They catered more to other tables and we didn't even get offered the dessert menu like the other tables around us. Also, we had to ask for the check and no one even came to check if we were ready to pay we had to go up there.

While this visit was in between the lunch and dinner rush, unfortunately I think they are understaffed because at the time we sat down there was only 1 person who was busing tables and taking orders. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

I also think a little more fried onion and garlic would have made the dish more flavorful and satisfying. Overall, we had a decent meal with both highlights and misses. They also offer dishes like bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc, which may be worth trying on a future visit.

I tried something new cause I usually love this drink: banana matcha, (Even though i originally came to try something else) but I was disappointed. I will come back to try what I originally wanted to drink (horchata matcha latte, I believe it was) cause I really think they have good drinks. I've heard great things from friends so maybe I just got a bad drink, off day, or because it was a new drink on the menu, it just hasn't been perfected yet? Not sure but just wasn't what I usually expect from a matcha drink. Other than that, service was great. The cashier was really nice. I was able to find street parking really easily as well. (If you do try the banana matcha, maybe ask for less milk!)

Exceptional beer hall with a quirky bus serving up your suds (and 3 flatscreens with sports). Reminds me of the old-school beer halls I used to go to in Portland - open space with plenty of space for picnic tables and bikes, chill people and great beer. They have smartly partnered with a bunch of food trucks like Martha's Taco Truck so you can grab some grub and fill up. Watch their Instagram for the details.
