I'd say this is a 3 1/2 star experience. Ling Ling makes the effort to have a very presentable restaurant, neatly-dressed waiters, white tablecloths, comfortable seating booths. You're greeted pleasantly by the host in full view of the open kitchen. You'll find very familiar cuisine on the menu. We shared a soup special, shrimp, spinach and tofu for two. The spinach was fresh, the shrimp were the mini ones, it was all in all pretty good, a tad salty. We also shared General Tso's chicken which was also very good, with the exception of the stickiness of the sauce, maybe a bit too much corn starch. The chicken was obviously freshly prepared so kudos for that. All in all, a place I'd go again, and if I found several items that were consistently very good, I'd go up to four stars. read more

I found this place by accident. I was simply on a binge for Chinese food. Their Duck is amazing not to oily and definitely soft and tender. The atmosphere is tranquil and nice. Vegans beware. I ordered steamed vegetable dumplings and white rice. A plain meal and when I received my order my rice was cold and my dumplings had meat in them. The staff had the audacity to say it wasn't meat it was cabbage or mushroom. Meanwhile it had a chewy ground meat texture which neither has when steamed. They took the order back order back said this time its vegetable and guess what.. it was the same b meaty dumplings.!!! I ate my rice paid for my meal and will Never return again. Well, S agreed with me on this........ I give kudos to places where I have enjoyed the experience. Not a redeeming quality about this place. Terrible. Do not go. I read the reviews before going and saw the 2.5 rating. Yelp needs to have the numerical reviews be 0 or even negative numbers. The better places will go to the top naturally. We came in for a family wedding from Florida craving New York style Chinese food. We arrived at 8:15 knowing that they close at 9pm. When we asked to be seated, the person behind the counter looked at the clock and said "they wouldn't seat us since they normally close at 8:45." Mind you, nobody else was in the restaurant. Ling ling is a lot better than the reviews I see here so far. Its one of the few chinese places in the area with fresh ingredients. I wont say its a favorite, but its dependable, and without a doubt the best i've found in without driving 30 minutes. I guess it might be a little pricey but not obnoxiously so. Try the specials. Nice, reasonably priced Chinese food in a very good neighborhood of Basking Ridge & Liberty Corner. The service was very fast and the wait time for order was very less. Coming to food, we had fried veg dumplings, chicken lo-mein and Tofu with vegetables. Everything was good. Especially, in the lo-mein the chicken pieces were cut thin and long appearing like lo-mein itself and were well marinated in the sauce. At some other places, these pieces are very big and dryish. Tofu was also super-soft and fresh tasting. Recommended place for casual dinner. It is quiet and good to sit, chat and have good food. read more

Lunch specials are from $7ish to $10ish. It's pretty much a Chinese fast food restaurant with dressed up waiters and nice deco; pretty pretentious combo if you ask me. Anyway, food is mostly Americanized Chinese, okay taste and quality but the lunch special portions are pretty stingy considering the prices they charge here. Ling Ling is local for me and they don't use MSG in any of the food. It's good Chinese food and the takeout orders typically only take 10-15 minutes. If you choose to dine with them there are plenty of tables with white linen service. You always get a nice hot pot of tea, crispy noodles and duck sauce. I also ask for spicy mustard. When I walked in, my first reaction was a very nice sit-down Chinese Restaurant. This got me hooked into the restaurant, but there were a few flaws with the restaurant. Before ordering my meal, I decided to get an appetizer. I got a seafood soup and it was delicious. Mmmmmmm. However, my entree was 180 degrees from delicious; it was disgusting. I had the honey chicken. Warning: Do not come in with a voracious appetite wanting to order the honey chicken. I ate it anyways because I didn't want to leave with an empty stomach. I know someone else, who I won't mention for privacy reasons, also said that the appetizer was great, but the entree was unimpressive. I was so disgusted, I couldn't risk having dessert. Prices are pretty high probably because of the area it is located in. Food is not good at all, probably because it is the only chinese place within the 10 mile radius, they just do what ever they want. I order house special fried rice, it was tasteless and not great. Lots of fresh ingredients like shrimp and pork but ehhh. If I pay that price I should get something with some flavor at least, its not like I ordered off the diet menu, jeez. A little more authentic than Chu's Cafe but much pricier as well. Located conveniently in Riverwalk right off of 78, Ling Ling attracts many customers from surrounding areas, namely The Hills. The decor and atmosphere are less than average. I think most people opt to take out instead. read more

The food is decent, however the service is not. I have been there at least six times because it is convenient and I have been denied substitutions or given attitude. On my most recent visit I asked for hot chili oil. It was given to me in a small uncovered dish with a small ceramic Spoon on a small plate. I put some on my food and placed the spoon on the small dish rather than on the bowl and the waiter came to the table and told me that I couldn't do that. The spoon had to be placed back in the bowl. I asked him why it mattered because he wasn't going to serve it to anyone else and he told me that the DO re-serve their chili oil that is served in open containers. I will be informing the Bernards Township Board of Health but I also wanted to inform you. I will try to attach the photo I took. read more

I got Velvet Shrimp for take out. It was OK. I have had better dishes. There was a good amount of shrimp and a lot of broccoli, a few pea pods, little bit of other veggies. The sauce was kind of bland. I never have felt the need to put salt on Chinese food before. The people at the counter were friendly enough and the service was super quick. I was out the door in minutes after I placed the order. They provided paper plates & silverware as well as chopsticks (not all places think that people who get takeout might actually be in a hotel, so this was nice. My absolute favorite Chinese restaurant! They opened when I was a teenager and I used to go all the time in high school. I've since lived in Boston, DC, and now the Bay Area -- but whenever I'm home I head straight here, as I've never found any Chinese restaurant that compares. They have amazing dumplings, delicious chicken dishes (I love their chicken with broccoli), great fried rice, wonderful soups, etc. Prices are reasonable and food is savory and filling. Great food but two huge issues which is why I stopped going here. I hope they read this and make both changes. I love sweet and sour chicken but here their sweet and sour sauce is served runny like water not the thick sweet texture I'm used to and enjoy. When dipping your chicken all of the sauce runs and drips immediately off of your chicken because their sauce is so watered down. Also their prices are out of control! With two meals and crab wontons it's like $50-55$ for take out with rice and egg rolls. Ouch! Food isn't terrible though. Just wish they'd improve the sweet n sour sauce and lower prices and I'd adjust to better review. read more

I agree with other comments that indicate a sharp decline in taste and service. Took Mom out for Mother's Day lunch (her choice of place, not mine). We were a party of six. The place was half full, so assumed the quality of the food would not be compromised. I was wrong. Appetizers of beef and chicken skewers were dry and overcooked, meat was chewy. Tangerine beef ($17) was tasteless and rubbery, only the excessively sweet brown goo sauce had a little tangerine flavor. Mom got the worst treatment. She ordered the broiled salmon over steamed veggies. The salmon was thin (3/8 ") and leathery. Looked like it was deep-fried, not broiled. Dry as a bone. Way overdone! What a shame. When we showed it to the waiter, he said he doesn't make salmon like this at home, but that is how it's prepared in this restaurant. "Next time," he advised, "you know how it is prepared here so that will help you decide what you want to eat." Next time? I don't think so. read more
