Just had lunch at Szechuan. I haven't been here in awhile and thoughts I'd give it a try. Not any improvement since my last visit. Fried noodles served with duck sauce were rubbery- obviously fried quite a while ago. Fried dumplings were more dough than filling and were hard to cut with a fork but filling was tasty. Sweet and Sour chicken were fried balls of dough with so little chicken that it was hard to find. Very greasy and tough. Sauce was very thick and full of cornstarch I guess. Kung pao shrimp was pretty good. Had to ask for a glass of water and never got a refill. Server was definitely having trouble keeping up and looked frazzled. I gave it a revisit but still not a great place. Won't be going back. read more

One of the better spots in the area for Chinese. Most of the dishes are fairly americanized, but you probably aren't going to find much else in this area in terms of authenticity, and I give this place credit for consistent quality, particularly their fried rice. The lunch specials are pretty reasonably priced for the portion size, which is getting harder to find these days. Some of the larger entrees are probably better but not as wallet-friendly. Service and the somewhat depressing interior though are what lowers the rating for me. Seat cushions are ripped and not stable, tables and dishes aren't clean, and is tough to get ahold of servers. I'll probably come back every once in a while since it's close to my work, but that might be more due to the relative lack of asian restaurants in the area. read more

While the food is just mediocre, Americanized "Chinese" food, the service is horrific. I have h to write this review, but the service is consistently (not a one time event) bad. We typically get take out. They tell me a half hour and o have at times had to wait 45 min or an hour. If they would be honest in their time estimation, they would be doing customers a favor. Don't lie!! They also have on a couple occasions forget items, so be sure to check your order before you leave the restaurant. Too bad this town only has a couple "Chinese" restaurants. Awful and overpriced - hands down the worst Chinese food we've ever had. The sesame beef was tough and inedible - barely half a takeout containers worth of beef for $18 is a total rip off as it is. I would give this place 5 stars for food. It's real authentic and you can tell that they know the dishes super well. This is the go to takeout place for my Chinese parents and we also come out to dine in every so often as well. I do want to note that they have different menus for chinese and American customers as the tastes and preferences are different. Some things are special to the Chinese menu but that's only in Chinese. But I would give it a 3 for service. The day we went in on a Sunday dinner there was only one waitress waiting on like 7 tables so she was obviously very busy and couldn't help us right away. DELICIOUS! i found this restaurant by surprise and let me tell you if you are a SZECHUAN style food fan this is the right spot everything was really tasty. I really recommend their cryspy chicken with garlic and the Szechuan wonton they were amazing. we tried the SZECHUAN lamb and it was very tender and with such a good flavor. We thought Szechuan Delight was just a typical Americanized Chinese restaurant we just ordered 3 simple dishes. However, the quality of the foods surprised us. This is my 2nd time eating here, but my first dine in experience. We were greeting nicely upon entrance, but that's where the customer service ended. We were seated immediately, once we placed our orders which included a Diet Coke & regular Coke, the waiter brought out the 2 sodas with glasses. My glass was absolutely filthy, it was obvious to the naked eye, so why the waiter thought it was ok to place that glass on the table is beyond me (see photo). Our server was not friendly or attentive, he never came back to check on us; as a matter of fact, we had to hunt him down for the check. As for the food, it ranged from substandard to mediocre. I had the Singapore Mei Fun with no pork, what was suppose to be chicken was rubbery and chewy and did not taste like chicken (I don't want to know the truth because I can't handle the truth!) This was the worse Singapore Mei Fun that I've ever had in my life thus far.Jessica ordered the dumplings which she described as mediocre and the chicken and broccoli which we both agreed was mediocre. They have pretty authentic Shanghainese food (owner is from Shanghai, go figure :) We almost always order the fried wonton and scallion noodles: they bring back childhood memories for Shanghainese people! The owner would periodically introduce new dishes, but you have to get the special Chinese menu (not even the standard Chinese menu, the one-page plastic-sealed menu) to order. I'm sure this would be a problem for non-Chinese speaking customers... so bring a Chinese friend :) Now comes the sad part: their customer service is almost non-existent. We have been coming to this restaurants for years, and have met only one (out of five) waiter that cares about the customers. Most of the time, the waiters/waitresses are nowhere to be found. Our waiter tonight was quite typical: he would hide in the food preparation area behind the pillars, and only appear when a new dish comes out. Forget about getting a glass of water, or extra utensils. We have learned to help ourselves... The best part about our dinner tonight was when the waiter waved to me to take my own two dishes to my table. Yes you read that right: he asked me to serve the dishes to my own table, by myself! It's a shame their standard of service does not amount remotely close to that of the food. The owner is actually a really nice person. Poor service, food was barely fair but the price led me to the review, I picked up the order and the order somewhat demanded a tip along with a fee for the Credit Card, I did bypass the tip option but then after checking out there was a FEE- a fee for what, I was just charged a credit card fee of 3% that was fine but a fee for processing... sorry that's not except able. Our family loves to go out to eat...it's quality family time for us. My Mom and I especially love to try new places and we have been looking for a nice Chinese restaurant. We tried this place yesterday and I can't say enough positive comments about it. It's comfortable and our service was perfect. I have never seen a more comprehensive menu! They literally have everything! I don't eat meat, and I had so many delicious-looking options. I ended up with General Tso's tofu and broccoli with garlic sauce. I also took home tofu and vegetable soup. The servings were generous and reasonably priced. Best of all, it was the best Chinese food I ever remember eating. Kale/pork pan fried dumplings!!!! Just terrific!! My heart has such a soft spot for this restaurant and the owner & staff. The owner is phenomenal - caring & personable and makes the most delicious kale & pork pan fried dumplings. We had my dads 81st birthday here as my parents don't feel like they've properly eaten unless they've have decent chinese food ;) but more so my dad was recovering from heart surgery and they were able to accommodate us and give him special low sodium heart friendly dishes. They also have an online menu but our waiter was confused af since the menu is usually 1) larger portions 2) more expensive 3) suited for dinners and not lunch. I got something simple - house special lo mein. It's on the expensive side for lo mein, but I don't mind paying a bit more for better quality. Unfortunately, this was mediocre at best. In fact, considering that there was basically a huge container of noodles with VERY LITTLE meat or shrimp mixed in, it was a HUGE disappointment. I specifically paid more for the "house special", but barely even noticed the few tiny shrimp and the small pieces of almost indistinguishable skinny tidbits of meat. There was not even the usual veggies mixed in. Why is it so difficult to find decent chinese food in these areas? Went here for lunch a few days ago. Service is bad like they always are at Chinese lunch spots. They are looking to rush you out. Food comes out in a jiffy which is the hook for a quick lunch. Food wasn't that bad. Had the steamed chicken and broccoli (went healthy for like a day...) with brown rice. Came with wonton soup (not so healthy). Order took about 10 mins to get, 8 minutes to eat and 30 seconds to pay as the waiter stands around you as you are eating your last grain of rice. They have good lunch prices as well. So i came here spontaneously because my friend needed a plus one for her fencing gathering and i was glad i came. The parking lot is huge so it's not hard to find parking, and the restaurant is pretty big for big parties. The only thing is that it kind of looks like the chinese version of an american diner. Not classy or special in anyway, definitely a casual place. Anyways, we were a table of 10, sat a round table with a lazy sally in the middle. We were given hot and cold water as we sat down and slowly throughout the dinner we got food. We started off with wonton chips with the sauce (absolutely addicting), then got kebabs (beef was sooo good-didn't get to try the chicken because there was only 5 of each), then the fried spring rolls (be careful, it's VERY hot), then we got the soup (too much cilantro for my taste) but overall pretty good, and then after ALL of this, we got a bunch of main course dishes. I don't remember exactly what the order of the dishes were; however we got a lot of the main dishes: lo mein, spinach, lobster, shrimp, chicken, beef, and rice. All pretty good, nothing to complain about, and then for dessert we got ice cream and fortune cookies. Overall the total was only $20 per person and we were all pretty stuffed (even got to take home leftovers). This place got three stars not because the food or service was bad, but just because everything okay. I believe that this place is doing just "standard"-the norm. Good Chinese food, not the best (compared to nyc) but definitely above average for the area. I have been here a couple of times. The price is ok and the portions for the meat dishes are pretty decent sized. They get pretty good business which ensures fresher food. I have had ribs with peking sauce here as well as salt and pepper ribs. The flavor was good for both though it seemed there was a bit too much batter around the meat. The crispy pan fried beef noodles had a delicious, fresh taste though the portion was a touch small. The food is served quite fast after you order. The service is not the most attentive (both times I went our waiter never checked on us after we received our food) but when we did interact they were pleasant enough. My impression was that the menu is a bit more limited here compared to Jade Isle in Scotch Plains but the food here tasted fresher than at Jade. read more

During this global pandemic this wonderful restaurant decided to drop off lunch to my job at Wells Fargo in New Providence NJ. With the kindness of their heart they have came more than once to make sure we are taken care of. It is businesses like these who keep the town running and satisfy hunger especially for Chinese food! And during this pandemic it is nice to know essential employees like ourselves are being recognized.
