They do make it on the sweeter side and I also sometimes order it as a frappe. The baristas are friendly and quick in making the drinks. I go here pretty often and I didn't realize I never left a review. They had limited hours during Covid season when I discovered them. Now they are open 7 days a week! I always get the Thai Latte and normally the aunty there will make it, and she makes it with care, I know this much because my drink almost always tastes the same when she makes it. It's kind of a hole in the wall, unless you're looking for this spot you won't notice it's there even with the A frame sign. When you walk in you're greeted with bags of coffee and different types of teas and in the far back corner you will notice a coffee museum. I believe they do little tours here too. They cater to the tourist pretty well and are pretty friendly when they help them out, I have witnessed this first hand. read more

This was one of the few times I went with my husband to this place, as he looovvveeesss their coffee (the ONLY reason for 1 star), and doesn't get to go there often. Now, for those of you who have read my reviews, you know that I am big on basic customer courtesy. It can go such a long way. So as we enter, the place is empty, with the exception of one guy sitting at a table drinking his coffee. It's clean and spacious. As we approach the end of the counter that is designated for ordering, there is one girl behind the machines doing something and another standing right behind the clear pastry display, which we stopped to look at quickly to see what they had left, typing on a laptop. Not sure if she was a manager/supervisor. I got that type of vibe the way she didn't feel inclined to rush in assisting us. Neither of them acknowledged us. Not even with a "we'll be right with you". So my husband and I stood there awkwardly for a couple of minutes, when the person on the laptop finally came over to the register, and obviously annoyed asked my husband "what can I get you?" with a sour face. It wasn't until she realized I was staring at her, that she attempted to give a fake smile. We ordered a couple of coffees, a cinnamon roll and a slice of banana bread. I'm telling you, if it wasn't for how much my husband loves their coffee, I would've left. The visit was just not worth it. Customer service was nil. both the banana bread and cinnamon roll were so dry and tasteless, and the parking isn't great (street parking only). It's very sad, because when you have customers that are willing to go through that inconvenience to come in to your establishment, the least they deserve, is a great customer experience. read more

Oahu only has one coffee farm (not this company), so all their coffees come from other islands and beyond. Lion's red bags are mostly blended varieties, some flavored, with their gold bags all Hawaii grown (mostly from the Kona Coast). I really enjoy their coffee and often get them for gifts for friends while traveling. All are available in whole bean or pre-ground. Prices are consistent with grocery stores, their coffees may be cheaper at wholesale or on sale elsewhere. Its' really fun to visit this place in person. It's all street parking in a commercial area of Kalihi. The entrance area is a spacious cafe, gift shop, tour area, and restrooms. They have all their coffees available for purchase to-go, plus merchandise and souvenirs. Ordered a Matcha Frappe while waiting for another establishment to open shop. It was the worst matcha beverage that I've had. Artisinal shops - regardless if they specialize in tea or coffee - will whisk their matcha beverages ( hot or cold ) upon order. It makes for a earthy, delicious drink. Corporate chains - I get it, it's about convenience - will have a matcha base pre-made. Those chains have all beem better. Love the smell of coffee in the morning! You can literally smell them brewing when you drive through Kalihi. If I'm at not Starbucks, I'm definitely here. It's close to the school so after dropping my kids off I like to come here and get "mom fuel" the only down side is I wish the parking situation to this place was better. I usually come alone and I have the hardest time finding parking. When I come with someone I usually just let them stay in the car and I run in or I let them run in and grab me a drink too. The service is good and they are quick with making the the drinks, they do everything right in front of you. I absolutely love this place! It's dangerously close to my family's house, so every time I fly back to the mainland, half my suitcase is packed with their coffee. This spot is their coffee factory, but it's also a cozy café where you can sip on some of the best coffee around. They even offer factory tours, and learn some cool coffee history about Hawaii. I've never tried the food here because, honestly, I'm too busy chugging coffee like it's going out of style. I heard parking can be a nightmare since it's located in an industrial part of town, so going on the weekend was a smart choice. I was lucky and found street parking close to the entrance. The cafe is spacious with good selection of open tables and great natural light coming through. It's clean and welcoming vibe. In addition to retail space which includes branded clothing and drinkware, a small museum exists and showcases the history. I was surprised to learn the Lion coffee origins goes back to Ohio! We were in the area and I spotted this place. I always wanted to try it, so we stopped in. Besides the cafe, it's also a gift shop and museum. To take the "Roar" Stery Tour you can make reservations online. They had an ad showing the Creme Brûlée Frappe $5.80. That's what I decided to get. I also got a Haupia Malasada $4. The Frappe was good with the candy crumbles that they sprinkled on the whipped cream. The malasada didn't look too appetizing as it was sitting in the warmer and not made fresh like other places. My hopes weren't too high. However, looks can be deceiving. I picked it up and it was still warm. I bit into it and the haupia cream gushed into my mouth. The cream was actually clear with tiny bits of coconut shavings in it. I like it better than all the other haupia filled malasadas. I can just imagine if it was right out of the fryer, lol. Yes, this is my new favorite. They also sell bagels. Their new bagel is the Lox Bagel. I was tempted to try it as I love smoked salmon. This was my first visit to Lion Cafe on O'ahu. I went to the San Diego store around 6-7 years ago. I love how spacious this store is. Lots of seating, free wifi, and free street parking. I bought 2 bags of ground coffee(vanilla macadamia) and a hot white mocha. They gave me kama'aina discount without asking. The screen said "antioxidant -$2.55" for some reason. The vibe is like an industrial warehouse that has been converted. Very cool. read more

Okay so needed to return the rental with a full tank and Costco was near. We were early for once and thought I'd love a real coffee shop. Lo and behold this was near and on the way back to the airport. The coffee was amazing best I had the whole trip!! Plus a the light breakfast that was on point. Surprised to find that they only serve 100% Kona bean in cold brew! The cold brew was still delicious though, actually came with ice which was interesting.
