    Lunch Combo Menu

Passed by this place a few times and kept forgetting to come back here for lunch. This location is located in the subway station " Turnstyle Underground Market". I ordered their fish fillet malatong (which is actually a hot pot - not a dry pot). However, it was still good and filling. The order came with fish fillets, sliced potatoes, cabbage, noodles, seaweed, etc. It also comes with a container of rice and an extra half-pint container of soup. This would be like 2 meals for me - very hearty. I would come back again to try the other flavors. My total was $18.50 (including tax). You can order direct for pick up via their qr code/link below: https://order.mealkeyway.com/customer/release/index?mid=5050306a7a454133354f6f5170566d524471336955773d3d&couponCode=LIONS#/main

Braised beef over rice examples, sliced, not good quality, the kind of beef you find in soups.
    Randy M.

I got the braised beef over rice. Unfortunately, the beef did not appear to be the same beef that was in the picture they advertise. The beef I received was sliced, as if from a deli, the quality not as good, with each slice having fat and cartilage-like strips (see pix). In fact, this is usually the type of beef that Chinese restaurants place in soups, not over rice plates. The food that appears on the ad picture ought to at least resemble the way it is actually served. Oh well, I guess I'm not coming here again!

    House Grilled Chicken over noodles.
    Ally W.

It seems my dish was the most Americanized dish on the menu... House Grilled Chicken. I opted for noodles instead of rice. The serving size could have been split into 2 meals - a great value. The flavors were very lacking, noodles were swimming in greasy sauce, and barely any vegetables

    Butter Grilled Shrimp

This traditional Asian restaurant seems to be starting up pretty well. I appreciated the decor of the establishment immediately upon arriving. The colors and lighting made it very attractive and I felt a lot more compelled to order. The man at the counter was very welcoming and there was a lot of presentation for what's available on the menu. I ordered the butter grilled shrimp with white rice (note: this menu seems to be very diverse, they also have chicken wraps and sweet potato fries) which came up to about $17 including tax. The first thing I noticed was the generous portion of shrimp that was included. Not only were they jumbo shrimp, but the container was filled with them so I was able to get a satisfying filling. The shrimp were grilled very well: the bite was firm but not resistant, the butter was notable, and the sauce provided created a nice flavor. I feel as if the sauce could have been a bit more potent, but the flavor was enjoyable for what was there. The rice had quite a unique taste and texture on its own, which was great. The vegetables supplemented the taste and texture of the meal overall. Particularly, I enjoyed how the broccoli matched up with the shrimp. It was a very interesting experience combining these ingredients and observing different sensations. Overall, I greatly recommend this restaurant. This new Lions Gate has the eye of the tiger.

    Extra soup for malatang
    Susan Z.

They have good malatang. I ordered the fish malatang with medium spicy. $14.99. super filling because it comes with rice and extra soup to add to the malatang. Very nice staff and quick service. You do have to wait for the food to cook but it's like a 10minute wait. The soup is delicious and it has noodles so the rice was a big unnecessary. This is enough for 2 people in my opinion. Next time I'll order spicy instead of medium because I love spicy food. You can also order not spicy aka the white soup which is rich and creamy but not spicy at all.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere that fits well with their comfort-food focused menu, and the dining room stays lively without being too loud, making it easy to settle in and take our time. The food here leans classic brunch, but there are enough options that make it stand out. The chicken and waffles are a must-try, with the crispy chicken paired with the sweet waffles for a satisfying balance that hits both savory and sweet notes in one plate. The lemon ricotta pancakes are another highlight, with a lighter texture and a nice flavor that does not feel overly sweet, allowing the ricotta to add a subtle creaminess. We also liked the pastrami hash and the latke with smoked salmon and poached eggs, which bring more savory options to the menu and give the brunch spread a bit more variety beyond the usual sweet offerings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are straightforward but well executed. One thing that stood out was how many dietary options were available, especially with clearly marked gluten-free choices across the menu. It made the experience feel more accommodating without making the menu feel overly complicated or scattered. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience felt comfortable from start to finish. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pace of the meal moving without rushing us. Friedman's is the type of place that works well when you are craving a familiar brunch meal done well. It is not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it delivers a reliable, satisfying meal with a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to return to. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite or settling in for a longer catch-up session, it offers the kind of consistent, comforting experience that keeps neighborhood spots like this in regular rotation.

We got their garganelli, tagliatelle, and ravioli pastas. For dessert, the iconic tiramisu. Garganelli- This has a nice, arugula pesto sauce that has a rich garlicky finish. It's enhanced with roasted mushrooms and sharp pecorino. Tagliatelle- You get a rich pork and beef bolognese. The house made pasta is cooked to perfection. Pretty satisfying! Ravioli- This is a light, seasonal dish with pumpkin, brown butter, and sage. The sauce complements the sweet pumpkin and the brown butter adds a nuttiness. Tiramisu- This dessert was too cute to eat! It was decorated with a meek looking model of their namesake lamb. Nobody wanted to ruin its face so we slowly ate this from the outside in. The espresso it strong, complemented by the creamy marscapone layers. Textures and flavors were perfectly balanced. Great experience overall!

I appreciated the char going down the stem as well but think it could have been cooked for a bit longer to make the stems less snappy in texture
