I've been wanting to come here foreverrrrr but never found myself in the neighborhood. With finals coming up I decided a change of scenery would make studying a little less miserable, so I made the trip to Flatbush. Vibes are immaculate, as are the food and drinks (and playlist). I got a jerk chicken wrap and a ginger lemonade while i was studying, and an iced matcha latte (not pictured) to go. The wrap was very tasty & had a great level of spice. I'm a sucker for a drink with ginger in it & the lemonade did not at all disappoint. The matcha was good, which I've learned is hard to come by at many places in the city. The interior is cute and everyone was working was very friendly. You can tell that there are regulars that have a great relationship with the staff. I've been patiently waiting for this cafe to open up and it has exceeded my expectations! From the statement art pieces on their walls as well as their bold lip logo! I love it. The statement furniture and finishings. This spot is an amazing addition to my neighborhood in brooklyn. Its always packed, I see people coming in to relax or catch up on work on their laptops. This space I also saw has commissioned art pieces for sale as well and I love that they have a write up of the artist along with their contact information next to their paintings! I also observed that this cafe hosts events here as well, which i plan to visit in the future. I had the hot chocolate and 10 points for presentation in that lip cup! I love.! And I think I need one in my life. The sweetest hot chocolate with whip cream on top. My husband had the chai and he enjoyed it as well. You want to get your morning coffee and some breakfast, you need a work space or a meeting space, if your looking for an after work hangout or a weekend brunch, this is the one. They host an array of events, for small business on the neighborhood. The look and feel of this place is rustic chic, there's plants on the walls with some great art, books, good amount of sitting space. I've been visiting this place since the opening and I've honestly never been disappointed with the the food, drinks or service, my go too is the chive and cheddar biscuits, their bake and salt fish, vanilla latte with almond milk and their mango lemonade when it's warm outside. read more

Wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Been here twice, once for a matcha latte and a wrap and another for an event. I love to support black-owned small businesses, very important to keep them thriving by my patronage. The staff is extremely friendly and personable, my latte was very good, they offer a good variety as well as flavors. During the event, I enjoyed a cafe au lait with oat milk (they have a good selection of non-dairy alternatives). I love this place. The food is quite tasty. I've only had the bake and salt fish and the salmon panini and I enjoyed both. The ginger pineapple drink is delicious and I never drink anything with ginger but I enjoy it. I came here with my bf to talk and we were there for 3 hrs. No one rushed us out or gave us side eyes. Lips is my new favorite cafe in the Little Caribbean area. Well....it is my only favorite cafe in the Little Caribbean area because I am not terribly familiar with the area. But regardless, it was the type of place I walked in and felt very very comfortable. I tried their hot cocoa and I could not recommend it more. The portions are healthy and the whipped cream makes it oh so delicious. I probably got lucky getting in during a non-busy hour, but it was VERY comfortable being there. I could go there to work and ACTUALLY focus - very rare these days. Their service is really great too. 10/10 for the everything croissant!!! i recently moved into the area and have been trying out the coffee shops nearby. this was my first stop and it did not disappoint! i've never had an everything croissant before but omg i guess the one here is my new fav breakfast item. the oat milk latte was okay. taking off a star for that...it was more bitter than what i'm used to. the ambiance was chill with good playlists, but not so loud that you won't be able to hear each other. 7-8 indoor tables and good decor! it was $10 for the latte and croissant, but i guess that's the norm here... still getting used to that! read more

If you grew up eating bake and salt fish, this will give all the nostalgia feels. My sister got an egg and bacon breakfast sandwich and was raving about how it reminded her of the breakfast sandwiches at this cafe we used to go to in Trinidad. The egg was seasoned perfectly. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The food is amazing, the environment is welcoming and spaced out enough for distance in the time of covid and the people working there are helpful and friendly. Don't know how I randomly came across photos on IG about their rotating art display, but so glad I did and got to see what amazing food and drinks they have at this black-owned small business. Was going to try their red velvet latte and some blue variation of the drink. Instead came super hungry, and went for the shrimp bowl with amazing sweet/spicy shrimp with plantain, parsley rice, coconut creamed spinach and cabbage. Omg! So good. I wanted to enjoy the wrap but it was missing rice or cheese or both! The sauces and juices from the salmon made the bread soggy. Wouldn't order again. I ordered the Rasta pasta & there was a sting like hair or something inside my pasta. I still tried it (the part the hair wasn't close to) & this pasta is delicious & the jerk chicken is flavorful. Was early for an appointment and decided to kill time here while I waited. Inside was cute with great wall art and wonderful customer service...alot of breakfast choices. I was not hungry, but decided to go with an order of avacado toast and a glass of pinapple ginger...mos def need that immune support during this time. I heard quite the buzz about the cutest new cafe in Brooklyn before arriving. A friend recommended this spot to grab a bite and hang for a work session. First thing I noticed were the large beautiful lips on the walls, hence the name. Followed by the smells of all sorts of deliciousness. I'm not a coffee drinker so I went with the recommendation of the barista - Pineapple Ginger juice. WOW, y'all talk about refreshing, my goodness! Totally didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. I drank it much faster than my usual casual drinking pace. My friend ordered a mozzarella and ham panini and I ordered a salmon panini. Hands down mine was definitely better than hers but they were both literally 10/10! The paninis were just the right amount of crunchy and crispy with a light olive oil drizzle on top. They were a decent size and full, not like those skimpy ones you're used to getting at other places. The salmon was so good, I mean really I was eating it slower than usual just so it would last longer. I've never had a salmon panini before and I'm glad this was my first one. The smell of salmon infused the entire cafe, which I was slightly embarrassed about for a split second. Then I got my dish and that feeling quickly went out the window. The family that owns this establishment were so friendly, attentive and helpful. I really felt like this place belongs in Brooklyn and can become a staple in the neighborhood. On my way home from the gym I decided on a whim to stop by for a nice sip of coffee. I was delighted by the cool decor, and started chatting with the baristas who were so nice - only to find out they're the owners! I ordered a rose latte, and took a first sip. Need to come back to try their coffee, since it looks really good as well. Only downside is, it takes quite a while for the food to come out so just something to be prepared for. I didn't think it was possible for a coffee shop experience to be so bad that I'd feel compelled to write a Yelp review. Usually coffee shops are just utilitarian, eliciting no specific emotion. But this was something else...allow me to paint you a picture: Two employees were on duty: One was working his butt off at the barista station, while the other was staring blankly over the cash register, wearing her mask under her chin, ignoring the customers in line. I stepped forward and tried to wake her up with a "good morning." I thought I made out a soft mumble in reply, so I placed the simplest of orders -- a drip coffee. She mumbled something else. I said "sorry, what was that?" She mumbled again. "Sorry?" I repeated "Black?", she whispered. After I specified my dairy preference, she returned to outer space. The barista had 3 or 4 complicated espresso drinks in queue, and his protocol was to make things in the order they were placed. As I stood silently by the pick-up counter, he continued to power through his work, while his associate stood next to the drip coffee machine idly staring at her phone. In theory, would she have been able to spare 10 seconds to pour my simple drip coffee and hand it to me? It's hard to say. For one, I'm not sure she was cognitively capable of such a challenge. Second, it seemed like the gossip column she was scrolling through was of such high importance, it couldn't possibly supersede the cohort of sick patients waiting for their appointments with me at the hospital. But really, it was unreasonable in the first place for me to question the division of labor these two had worked out at the beginning of their shift. Making coffee simply wasn't her responsibility today, and it would have been a clear violation of her labor rights for her to step beyond her assigned duty of sort-of-taking-people's-orders-but-mostly-ignoring-them. Twenty minutes later, my drip coffee was prepared. The barista proceeded to spill the whole thing on the floor, and had to prepare a second one. He handed me the too-hot cup and reported that no sleeves were available, so I grabbed an extra cup for heat protection and walked out without a word. I got the jerk chicken wrap which was really good but if you don't like spicy foods then avoid at all cost because this doesn't just have a little spice to it. Still good, and I enjoyed. For my drink I got the Ginger Pineapple which was lovely. Make sure to stir in the ginger before drinking though. Lips is a lovely cafe with a fun, modern aesthetic. The art on the walls is a great touch, as are the couches and colorful chairs! Their cheddar chive biscuit is the ultimate comfort food. Each time I've been to Lips, it's taken a while for the food and coffee to come out, which is the only downside. I am so glad I randomly stumbled onto this place because it's more than just a coffee shop; it's a refuge. The vibe is always right inside, with great coffeehouse tunes AND vibrant art that regularly changes. Lips does a great job of adding to community and supporting up-and-coming artists. Once you stabilize yourself from all the dope visuals don't forget to get a drink and some food. One of the coolest aspect of Lips is they are constantly expanding their menu. Tip: Check out their Instagram page for new offerings. So far, I have loved their Trish BLT (with avocado), their Ethel Wrap (saltfish) their Chai Latte and their Cookies and Cream Frappe. Again, they are constantly expanding so its probably in your best interest to try ANYTHING NEW. I will also say, don't sleep on their main dishes. I once tried the Salmon Rice Bowl with my mom and even she was ranting and raving about it. Context: she is a picky eater who's used to cooking her own food. She had ZERO complaints.
