A last minute girls night out idea. Didn't know we needed a reservation so we were very happy that they were able to squeeze the 3 of us on a small table in the corner. Not a good view at all but we didn't care - We're in! Drinks are tasty served by smiling faces. Plus the entertainers walk/prance/dance everywhere so it didn't matter too much. They hold you to the "$15 of food per person" rule so come hungry. We got a couple rounds of appetizer sampler platters and quesadillas. The food was much better than expected so don't fret. Went here for girls night, and had a blast! The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that these bitches need to EXPAND! There were so many people there, it was unreal. We were there before they even opened, and we still had to wait about 30 minutes, in line, to get to the bar! It was also difficult to navigate the tables, and our entrees took FOREVER. No kidding, the table just next to ours had to-go containers before we even saw our food! Other than the fact that it seems they're trying to accomodate more people than possible, we had a great time. Drinks were FANTASTIC, I had two and was pretty darn buzzed. Our group of 10 came to Lips last night to celebrate a birthday. I had never been to Lips before but had only heard good things about it. I absolutely loved it! The girls were amazing and all the performances were great. They really do have some talent! It was 70's/80's/90's night so I didn't know half the songs but oh well. The show was adorable. They call up the people celebrating whatever event it is and do a bunch of fun stuff for/with them. We went at 7:30 so it was a less "crass" show considering a few kids were there, but they didn't keep it PG rated thank god. I'd love to see the late night weekend show. The downfall about this place is the fact you're required to order a meal $15 or more per person, along with the $3 cover charge. It doesn't seem like that much, but add a couple drinks and gets pretty pricey. Although it was slightly odd that we were required to buy meals at a certain price, the food was actually pretty good. I wasn't too hungry so my girlfriend and I split the sampler appetizer, a salad, and a quesadilla (god forbid we eat healthy) and all of it was pretty good. The drinks were priced pretty well actually. I thought it would be super expensive. I love how you're not obligated to dress up like some places are because dressing all cute is not how I am so it was cool I could wear just normal stuff. Don't show up looking like you just came from the beach or rolled out of bed, but it is really casual. The girls there look fantastic though! Lastly, the place is pretty small. I thought it'd be bigger, but they make it work. They have a small little stage, a tiny bar, super small lounge area, and about 15 tables. It was kind of cramped but it worked fine. If you're visiting san diego or just have a celebration, I highly recommend heading over to Lips at least once to experience it. It's such a good time and there isn't a dull moment. read more

First time coming here on Saturday and had a blast! I love going to drag shows and these girls are amazing! They focus on getting people seated quickly. They take your order (drinks, food, etc) and ensure that you are very well taken care of. I love their funny and wittiness jokes. The food is good and the drinks are priced very fairly. I went to Lips recently for a friend's birthday party. Although the food and performances were decent, the service was enough to make me never want to come back. First of all, food is served DURING the performances, which makes it difficult to see because of the waitstaff constantly moving about and it feels rushed to eat. On top of that, our dinner order was forgotten and served together with dessert and we were rushed through both because of the next performance. And then they want us to pay extra tip because we're a party larger than 6? Our meals should have been free! If you want to see a drag show and dinner, go to the Rocky Horror Picture and Denny's -- you'll get better service, better food, and much better prices. read more

4 Stars because I love places like Lips and they serve delicious food, really! I had the cheese drag balls, Marsalafilet and chocolate strawberries with the most amazing whip cream. Everything in here is shiny and glamarous, Martini glass pillars, glittercurtains, golden statues/manequins and colorful art on the walls. Minus one star for the lack of attention & service from our server/performer Gigi who was too busy spending 98% of her time with the all ladies table next to us. Everyone else was super attentive and got tipped accordingly. The show itself was ok but they could improve their gigs a bit by adding some more humor or more dance skills. The host was great and funny and one of the dancers (Jessica Rabbit) could shake it up. Gigi just lip sang and her costumes werent that interesting. Overall I think everyone who has not gone is missing out, it makes a fun and different night. My husband and I had a blast, chatting with the guys next to us and taking lots of pictures with the lovely staff. The host at the front door was really sweet, and suggested we start at the bar since we arrived a bit early for our reservation. Mom got the "pick that bitch up off the floor" and I ordered their signature cosmo. The drinks were stronnnnng and THANK GOD for that, because our table happened to be right next to the freakin stage. We decided to order off their regular menu instead of the prix-fixe (it's a $15 food minimum but there's no cover!) and got the popcorn shrimp for an app; mom had the eggplant and I got the grilled veggie plate. The food was surprisingly good!! But don't expect to actually enjoy or savor your meal here--once the show begins it's kind of difficult to focus on eating and, if you're like me, you try not to do anything that will make you a target for ridicule or sass. My grilled veggies, for instance, set me up for an evening of bitchy comments about my lack of "meat"-eating prowess. Fair enough! Just keep ordering drinks and pray to all the powers that be that you don't win bingo. Unless, of course, you enjoy humiliation. I had the most dragalicious experience celebrating my ascension on planet earth. A family member of mine said that people born in May are queens. Went for Sunday Brunch. Loud, don't take small kids as the service takes over 3 hours! I thought it was too long. Food was generally good but even eggs are $17.95. It's very expensive and they constantly "beg" for more money and even pass a pot around. I think the night performances would be better as the brunch is mostly gospel songs and they get tiring after about 2 hours. The colors, the fabric, the martini polls, and the sparkly walls are to die for. Oh and don't forget the legs coming out of the walls! The Drags are fantastic, so sweet and gorgeous. They really put on a spectacular show and you can tell they love what they do. They give special attention to all the guests of honor and love taking pictures with you. Our waitress Va Va Voom is gorgeous and has a very likeable personality. The food is pretty good. I ordered the blackened tilapia and it was slightly on the salty side. I tried the wild mushroom ravioli with pesto from my neighbor's plate and it was so-so (didn't really taste the pesto); the mash potatoes, rice pilaf and veggies were good; chicken marsala, filet mignon was pretty good too. Those words don't even describe how delicious it was, we were all taking bites of each other's food and everything was excellent. The drinks are STRONG!! I did one of the shots they offer halfway through the show and mine tasted watered down while the two people I was with had very strong ones. I couldn't wait for the show to start- but first food and cocktails. That night I had the Coconut Shrimp( great presentation) and fries- delicious and very satisfying! If you like a vodka and cranberry as much as I do don't leave there without trying the " pick that bitch up off the floor"!!! So good- but don't have too many or they really will have to pick you up off the floor! First word that comes to my mind when I think of the show is FABULOUS!!! The host, Tootie, was hilarious and kept me laughing through the entire show. She's hysterical with just the right touch of bitchyness. Loved her! The performances by the girls are top notch, professional and very entertaining. They are all absolutely stunning and not only put on the show but wait on you as well! Really makes you wonder how they do it all. I highly recommend this for a celebration of any kind. There were plenty of birthday celebrations as well as bachelorette parties going on the night I was there and that's a show within a show- as the brides (getting " blow job" lessons) and the birthday girls get their moment on stage!
