I visited the Liquid Zoo a couple weeks ago with a friend who was in town and we wanted to explore more of my city, I have driven past the Liquid Zoo many times and didn't know what to expect. It's a dive bar with a small little parking lot in the back. Upon entering, we were greeted by a pretty cool dive bar with some regulars who were singing along with the music. It looks like they have karaoke nights and other fun things going on in this place that I definitely want to check out one of these days. The bartender was nice but we noticed she hung out mainly on the right of the bar with the regulars and didn't interact too much with us. No beers on tap, but a very nice selection of cocktail bottles to choose from. read more

I mean the liquid zoo is special to me. It is the dive. It has good kareoke and longest running comedy open mic in Los Angeles. I met Perry Kurtz there and he encouraged me to keep going as a stand up. Some of the greatest memories I ever made. Its home liquid zoo is kinda home. I feel at home on stage there. Wow, I had quite the adventure last night. I was on my way to the Van Nuys "Flyaway" terminal to pick up my wife, but I had a some time to kill due to her bus getting caught up in traffic on the 405. I found "Liquid Zoo" about a mile away, so I stopped by there for a beer. If you know me, you know I relish dive bars, so I was excited to give this place a shot. The fact that the parking lot was full was promising, and when I walked in, I saw a diverse group of middle aged folks having fun, and I thought I had found a good spot. Completely nondescript and divey, yet seemed fine. So, I ordered a beer, and started to chill out. I started to chat with the 40/50 something gentleman next to me. He seemed a bit awkward, but was affable enough. He got up to leave and said, "have a good day, sir", and I responded in kind. The same man came back about 5 minutes later and sat in the same spot. I said in a friendly tone, "oh I thought you had left. Welcome back." The man then became agitated and started talking to me in an aggressive tone. With the juke box playing loudly, I couldn't really make out what he was saying. I pulled the internal panic button, chugged the last 3rd of my beer, and then walked right out the front door towards my car. The dude proceeded to chase me onto Sepulveda Blvd, and he seemed very angry at me and was intent on starting a physical altercation. I then went right back into the bar, followed closely by him, and told the bartender, "hey, this guy is trying to attack me" (better to have witnesses and backup, right?). The bartender calmed him down and I was able to leave without being stalked again. I'm not sure if the guy was perhaps neurodivergent and having a breakdown, or more likely he had gone outside to have a hit of meth that ended up riling him up. Moral of the story: perhaps I should give more thought before walking into dive bars in sketchy neighborhoods! read more

I have been to this establishment a few times now. Each time it was on a Friday or Saturday. It's a nice spot to have a few drinks and unwind. People there always seem to enjoy themselves singing karaoke. The bartender (Kai) who is their server on the weekends has been so kind and attentive with all patrons, even going so far as to make sure customers have a way to make it home safely. I will definitely continue to go there whenever I have the chance. read more

It's an asylum. A fun asylum at most times. Karaoke nights are flavorful and the drinks are cheap at 9 dollars. I just yell into the night with my terrible voice. It's nice to see others perform live with beautiful voices for free. Hahaha! Stand up night is interesting. I think it's mainly therapy for some that go up there. It's nice to see others viewpoints. There are laughs in between the personal realities being said up on stage. It takes a lot to be up there and I respect all that stand and advance their soul to the mic. There are some people that are rude, but this does not reflect the establishment at all. The staff is nice and accomodating. The bartenders are attentive. The hosts are entertaining and kind. The drinks are total dive bar drinks. Which isn't bad. My complaint is they charge you $2 for using your card. I get costs have increases but charging a customer, two dollars to use our card is gouging. Include the credit charges in the price of your drinks and you won't have to charge a customer two dollars for using their card. read more

Never come to this place the Karaoke lady and her husband are very rude , unprofessional, and disrespectful. I came here with my friend to have a good time and it was the worst decision. I got kick out by the guy with the karaoke system just because I was sharing feedback about his wife being rude to me, this guy started yelling at me telling me to get out in a very rude way. now I see why they are together. Eventually this kind of behavior can affect the business and owner. There is a better way to tell customers to be gentle with the mic instead of telling them that it cost money in a rude way. read more

A pretty dreadful establishment that routinely overcharges for drinks (always pay cash! Never give them your credit card.). The key is to avoid purchasing drinks there. Bring your own, arrive buzzed, or don't drink. The prices the exceptionally rude staff will charge you will spin your head. It's literally cheaper to drink at the Beverly Hotel in Beverly Hills, if you can believe that. I still go now and then because my friend hosts karaoke there on some nights but it's always a chore to find parking or get in the door without a homeless person hitting you up for spare crack cocaine or a stretch-marked prostitute offering to change your oil for $18 and a PBR. I once attempted to stop in on a New Year's Eve but they wanted a $15 cover from me and my friend (who works there!). My friend thought the door man was kidding because HE WORKS THERE and walked in anyway. The idiot bouncer, who knows him, tackled him onto the pool table. Needless to say, we left and went somewhere else. Audrey, one of the bartenders, will give you the worst attitude while serving you an overpriced beverage. Unless you're with a pretty girl, in which case she'll happily greet her while still glaring at you for even being in the place. For a throwback highlight, try washing your hands in the bathroom. The powdered soap dispenser will remind you of elementary school. But at least in elementary school the staff had a reason to hate life because they were stuck with you for a few years. I am not a fan of this place but This seems like the type of place that probably would pride itself on bad reviews anyway tho. I came here with my friends. We didn't feel very welcome at all. My one friend was getting all kinds of racial remarks, My other two friends weren't fans of the drinks here, and well me...the bartender said I wasn't even allowed to drink there. My ID was a month expired, at first I was like meh okay my bad . Then I found out a few other people at the bar had ID's that were a lot more expired , like wow really. Yes, yes, yes! The perfect little place to drink and karaoke. I trekked from my failed expedition at Ireland's 32 (insert dramatic shudder here) to Liquid Zoo. Oh, what a difference! Open and airy, which is lovely for a little dive bar, it was really quiet when we first got there, but 11pm seems to be their sweet spot -- the place went from private to packed. The crowd was super friendly and respectful. The regulars welcomed newcomers with great gusto. The bartender was attentive and adorable. I went here to meet up with some friends on a Sunday. This Asian bartender chick kicked me out because she said I gave her my money disrespectfully. Several people in the bar who saw me give her the money came to my defense and said that I didn't mean it disrespectfully. I just put cash on the counter.
