So, you have to be 21 to enter and that sucks. I took my grandson to play the old style big games and he looks much older and I did not know as we had no intention of drinking. They did not notice us and we had a great time, but I will wait until he is 21 to take him back because what I did was not cool, but we were there and we spent lots of money on games he loves. It is located the NoHo Arts District. The place seems huge, but it was not too crowded. I think I read it is 5400 sq ft. The staff is very nice and please don't be mad at them, he is over 6 feet tall. I can't wait to be able to take him, not to drink, but to play and play. This year alone I have to say I have been here atleast 10 times. It's a cool Friday date night spot, they have all kinds of cool and older arcade games. I was a first timer at player one and it's hard to believe as I always drive by this place. But lately we've been into bar/arcades and this place was recommend. It's an cool spot overall but you'd definitely be bumping into people from "the valley" Then bar is in the main room you walk into and towards the back is the rest of the game machines. They have skeeball, the of Mario kart, pinball machines, air hockey as many others. I love me a good bar-cade! They also carry my favorite marshmallow stout beer, which is a big plus. Once you get inside, you'll notice it's not very large of a place. There's one main room with games and one room for drinks. There's pinball machines, air hockey, basketball, skeeball, DDR, shooting games, Mario kart, and a few other things. It's a fourth of a D&B, without food and without much ventilation. It can get pretty hot in there. It's also quite crowded during Friday and Saturday evenings. There's karaoke, too, which is a big draw for people. The bathrooms are usually filthy. :( Cute mirror, though. Street parking is your best bet in this area. Make sure to pay your meter. read more

I've been to Player One twice over the last few months. It's a good place to go on a Friday/Saturday night if you want to play some arcade games and have a few drinks, and the drinks are strong. Most of the games are fully functional but the last time I went there were a few that were out of service. They gave a decent sized drink menu and the drinks come in single or double shots. Great potential, a little run down. I'm sure this place started off great but it seems to have gone down hill just a bit. I would say that a fair amount of the games aren't working or aren't working properly. And everything is very expensive, most games are at least a dollar and, in my opinion, I don't think that's fair for broken down arcade games. Did not order any drinks, bartender didn't seem all that friendly. Still enjoyed the time regardless of the conditions. You have to be 21 to enter which is nice so that you don't have to deal with kids. The drinks were alright. Such a good time at Player One! This is a no frills barcade that's great for a night out with friends. We went a little on the earlier side of a Saturday night and while it was busy, we didn't have to wait for any games. There are LOADS of options of games to play including a lot of classic favorites like House of the Dead, The Simpsons and DDR! Lots and lots of pinball machines too. They have a machine that will give you quarters so bring cash! The bar here is pretty simple, so don't expect any elaborate cocktail list. Though they do have some fun drink specials! I really appreciate that they have water available and easily accessible. Especially because I was all over the DDR machine and needed some serious hydration that wasn't alcohol. FYI Do not entirely recommend playing DDR after a cocktail but boy did I have fun! Also, I have to express my gratitude for the friendliest bouncer I have ever encountered. Not only was he welcoming, but he gave us the complete rundown of how the games work and the house rules so we knew exactly what to expect walking in. This review is not going to be a good one. A few nights ago a friend of mine got drugged at this bar. To wake up with no phone and on someone's front lawn in Van Nuys... and another girl that he had met got drugged there as well. Please be aware of these bars on lankershim I've heard of this happening at El Tejano as well, please watch your drinks for dirty bartenders and the people around you as well. The evening that I came here with the boys, we originally were trying to get some climbing time in. (The climbing gym we chose was renovating and thus really limited in terms of available climbing spaces, which we deemed not worth the cost of entrance.) Instead, we opted for this arcade which was fun but also a lot to take in. I was thinking about the cost effectiveness of spending money to try to win cute prizes versus just going to buy the cute prizes. (It then makes me think about supply chains of such cute prizes and if they are gate-kept or otherwise reserved for arcade businesses. I am now thinking about drop-shippers and how I will never allow myself to fall prey to them again.) From my standpoint, the best arcade in LA. Nice reason: They hosted a wedding reception for me recently! Event planning and staff were incredibly supportive and attentive to details. We got to play some nice wedding themed visuals on the screens and allow everyone for a nice afternoon of play and drinks (with catering delivering to us). Aside our special event, they have a nice selection of games, a very relaxing atmosphere, nice drinks, and special events like karaoke! They do public karaoke here on the weekend if you buy a drink. They give you stamp and you can sing all night. All the workers here were super nice and personable. Real great vibe here. I've been here for the first time. What do you want to ask? Jukebox, Karaoke, Pac-Man, shooting like a pro, street fighter & cheap drinks! The thing I like about this place is " No Hook Up" vibe. A single or a group of friends come here to enjoy their live. No creeper ( female/ men) looking for sex. Feeling safe & morally elevated:) We grown up in 90s and this is the perfect spot for a date night. Player could not be cheap but compare to Hollywood bar/ lounge there is a reasonable price for drinks. The best Arcade game of Super Mario is missing though. Aside from that this is a dream for 90s kid - millennial who loves to back in the future. If I could give a 0 review I would. I went to Player One for a friend's bday. Originally I hugged my friend, he spilt his drink accidentally, later he hugged me, I spilled my drink accidentally. Two completely innocent occurrences AFTER I paid $100 to pay their games. Afterwards, they refused to service me alcohol. Wish I could give more stars. I like having them in the neighborhood, but they open too late. Drinks are too expensive. They have enough variety and quality of games to also be a daytime destination, even opening at 4 would be a huge improvement. So, bring cash and use change machine to get quarters, else the ATM fees will get you. Rachel the bartender is very pleasant and makes good drinks. Entertainment varies. Big MEH. Who in their right mind is coming up with the amount of $ to charge for these games?!? Insanity! The selection of games is alright, nothing that really makes this place stand out amongst other "barcades" though. So with that and the not so great condition the machines are in, it's just crazy to me that they think charging a dollar for pinball is okay. Most arcades i've been to charge 50¢ and you get 2-3 plays. Bar was another disappointment. No drink menu to look at or something to look over at the table-- nope. Just these weird acrylic stands off to the side of the bar with whatever (insert silly video game title here) mixed drink. There is nothing on tap, just cans of beer and hard seltzers. Place was dingy, no cohesive theme of the interior to at least match the hideous vaporwave or whatever it is exterior. Bad machine layout-- plus the other boneheaded and spatially unaware customers kept crowding around various machines making it nearly impossible to get through. That's a recipe for disaster if there's ever an emergency. The thing that really irked me and ultimately led me to even write this is the jerk at the door. One of the pinball machines ate my quarter, and my partner goes to the guy at the door to ask who can help him get my quarter back. This guy proceeds to tell my partner to go to the bar, ask the bartender who will then ask the front door guy- who we are already talking to, to then get the quarter... HUH?? Yeah no thanks. I've gone here twice with my daughter, and both times I've had the worst customer service experience I can remember. First, we won a claw game and it told us to wait for an attendant. We tried flagging someone down for 10 minutes so I called the front desk. The guy answered and said, "why didn't you just walk to the counter, we're all here hanging out". Second, waited to cash in my game card for prizes in a long line. Was told to go to another area next to the clerk who then ignored me again. A date night GEMM!! I can't believe I barley found out this place existed when searching on Yelp. This spot brings the nightlife vibes with their drinks and variety of video games. From air hockey to pin ball machines, they have it all. Parking is tricky here because the area is so busy, but eventually we found some in the street which at night they don't charge for. This is a 21+ at night and open very late, they check ID at entrance. I like how there is a lounging area and then gaming area. Bring coins to play or get change for cash free on their machines. However, if you need cash from the ATM it's a $3 fee. We tried the Hi Barbie & another drink and they were okay, small cocktails for the price tbh. Love this fun arcade! The game prices have gone up a lot but they no longer require you to purchase a drink. I recommend bringing cash and getting quarters at the machine. I am by no means a 'gamer'. You won't find me X-boxing it up, Switch-ing with Nintendo (see what I did there?) or wasting time blasting colored items on my phone. My player days were restricted to Atari and OG Nintendo and ended with a little Super Nintendo and Sega like everyone else born in the 80s. That said; I was always a sucker for an arcade. Flashing lights, retro computerized beeps/blurbs and quarter slots... it's like a casino! Bring on the Pac Man! If you're looking for a grown-up version of the arcade of your youth; look no further than Player One. Player one holds real estate on Lankershim near the Magnolia intersection in the Noho Arts District in a standout purple building (you can't miss it) across from Amazon Fresh. I live about three minutes walking distance and saw the entire life cycle to date of Player One. To be honest, I assumed it was a cheesy concept - alcohol bar arcade requiring patrons to be 21+ to enter- and I didn't think it would last wrong. Well, as the adage says, I shouldn't have judged a book by its cover because when a friend insisted we have visit Player One... it ended up being an amazing time. As mentioned, Player One is 21+ and they don't mess around checking IDs at the door like it is a hot Hollywood night club. You are welcomed into a high-ceilinged large room complete with a bar and several round and communal tables (there was even a DJ) before entering the actual arcade area. Player One opens at 6pm and we went at 6:30pm on a Friday which is the secret code to cracking Player One as it gets busy - and I mean BUSY - as the night progresses. The Arcade reminds of early 90s bedrooms with black lights, neon strips and loud music.   Player One claims to feature games from the 80s and 90s and although this is true with Ms. Pac Man, The Simpsons, Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart etc; it also has newer pieces like The Mandalorian pinball machine, X Men, etc. Also in attendance are multiple pinball machines, a candy claw machine, and three air hockey tables. Most of the games are multi-player encouraging team play while imbibing on alcohol and that is EXACTLY why Player One is successful. This is NOT your child's Chuck E Cheese. Even though my friend threw me into the lion's den as a video game newbie; I learned I LOVE shooting things (especially dinosaurs in Jurassic Park!) and was super competitive about my accuracy and skills. Player One brings out a whole other side of you! Player One's bar offers sodas, beer, cider (great for Celiacs like myself! The Pear Apple cider was refreshing and not too sweet!); and creatively: game-themed cocktails which come in single or double shots. We tried the Mega Man Mezcal (Madre mescal, orange, pineapple, sweet and sour mix, ginger beer - $13) and the Tannen Bo-omb (whiskey, bitters, sweet and sour mix, grapefruit - $14). The Mega Man Mezcal was delicious and basically a brilliant Moscow Mule while the Tannen Bo-omb was a perfect mix of sweet, sour and  citrus-y grapefruit flavors. My only complaint is that the single shot definitely feels alcohol-jipped so if you are looking for an arcade-playing buzz... opt for the double shot. Make sure to not put your drinks on the games while playing, though! The staff WILL come berate you (signs are also everywhere) and plastic carts are located by the machines to hold your bevies. It should be noted that Player One is NOT cheap. The games range from 25 cents to 1.25 and require quarters with a converting machine available to change cash or debit card into quarters.  Player One would be better if it was like Neon Arcade in Pasadena which is open play and charges by the hour. We ended up spending $40 in quarters plus expensive drinks! Pricey, pricey! Also great was the vibe at Player One. Unlike the sort of douchey-hipster vibe that the Noho Arts district attracts from being gentrified (I've lived in the SAME apartment for 13 years at the time of this review so I am basically the president of this area); Player One had a very down-to-earth even borderline dork-y clientele which I actually preferred. Player One does get rented out, holds private events and features special night like Sunday karaoke so be aware if you visit. Maybe call ahead of time to make sure nothing is booked. I may not be a gamer but Player One gave me one of the best nights I've had in a while and I am itching to return to the Jurassic Park shooting game and continue my air hockey competition. Leveled up! Player One is the new high score adventure you're looking for... Great service, sounds and sips. Returning finally pre-2020 I've given this barcade and social hang a few trips in and tonight was by far the best... Not just because I documented and posted on the gram hahaha but because it was karaoke night!! Aside from playing a few rounds of X-Men, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and various racing games I signed up for some Bad Romance (the song by Lady Gaga) a little nervous and pitchy but it's all about the fun and the crowd and singers were all fun! Many friendly locals and easy to use machines including Karaoke sign up tables, atm and of course quarter machines for that game game play life. I had amazing bartender service from a few fine folks, the most personable door person and awesome kj host all night... Even made some new friends... I'm getting socialize again!! The drinks could have been so much better for the prices they charged. It was ten dollars for an incredibly small drink with almost no alcohol in it.
