Lisa is a hair color magician. I went to a nearby salon that had good Yelp reviews for my first professional color in a long time (I had been using box color for over a year). I was unhappy with the experience, mainly because I felt that my stylist was not very tactful in her approach (almost rude), and I felt they were trying to sell me on a service that I had never heard of (and didn't seem like the best option for lightening my hair color). I opted for a second opinion with Lisa. I walked into the salon, and she was happy to give me a brief consultation. She quickly found a solution for stripping my dark hair color and was highly transparent about the potential uncertainty of the process. When I returned for my appointment, I spent a good 4-5 hours in the salon (the color removal process was quite involved), but it was worth it. The process removed much of the color without any damage to my hair. Lisa then added color on top of the resulting color. This was the most impressive part- she knew exactly how much color to add to each layer and the necessary time required to leave the color so I didn't have obvious designations of color in my hair. I was in awe of the result: the color was beautiful (exactly what I wanted), and I had 1 consistent color throughout my hair (before Lisa had applied color to my hair, I had about 6 different colors). Lisa is a true colorist expert. I went from dark brown with severe color damage to beautiful blonde balayage. She took her time and I felt that even though it took 6 hours she never got lazy or uninterested. She stayed fully focused and did an amazing job. Amazing!!!! I've had my hair ruined time and again, and my most recent hair disaster looked awful. I had a brown to blonde balayage that was very brassy, way too dark, extremely damaging, and just bizarre looking. I found Lisa after googling "best color correction NYC" and they were right. Lisa listened to me and instead of just assuming what I wanted, she clarified each and every detail of my hair color and style before doing anything. She used Olaplex and after a full head of highlights and lowlights, my hair feels 10x healthier than my last dye job. She reallllly took her time placing every highlight and it looks amazing. I highly recommend Miyu Asakawa, a stylist at this salon for almost anything your hair could want. I've "followed" her for years, something I'd never done before with any other hair professional. She's quite experienced with many different hair types and has worked wonders on my special case of "disaster hair". She will make suggestions if you need them, and be honest about what your hair can or can't do, and do her best to try to fulfill your wishes. She's a specialist with Japanese hair straightening- really knows what she's doing. She's fixed wrecks for me caused by other salons who claimed to know what they were doing. Her regular blow-outs are great too; always super smooth and shiny. I'd like to follow her around 24/7 with a hair dryer. Actually, I'd like her to adopt me! She is an artist (I mean fine arts, not just with hair) and has a great eye for color, for styles, the works. She's very in-tune with the fashion world, has done work behind the scenes during Fashion Week, which makes her great at cutting-edge type work. I'm not the least bit fashiony or cutting-edge anything and you can get perfect, "normal" haircuts,or anything conservative too. I believe she's also a professional make-up artist and I know she's been hired for whole wedding parties, even having clients hire her for out of town gigs. Everyone else who works in the salon seems really nice and really into their work and I've only seen very good hair leaving the salon (with the person still attached underneath...). The owner (I think), Lisa was even kind enough to consult with Miyu about a special hair color need I had. A friend recommended Lisa at Ruby 6 over a year ago...and I've been faithful to her ever since. Even when I'm off traveling, I work my schedule (or let my tresses wait) to see only her. Having lived in California, Europe, Florida, and seemingly everywhere in between, I can honestly say no one has ever colored my hair as beautifully and naturally as Lisa. I always try to see the owner or head colorist of a salon as my hair is dry, wavy, and generally uncooperative to a good coloring and highlights. Or so I thought. My family still raves everytime i go to visit that they've never seen my color look more natural or more flattering. She even indulged my desire to go blonde -- which is no easy task for dry hair. The clincher for the 5 stars? She is hands down the most affordable I've been to in years.
