I LOVE Lisa! she always has my hair leaving shiny , body , and everyone always compliments my hair. I'm in an out with the roller set , never left waiting long. plus being Dominican I feel right at home with the crazy funny things the ladies have to say. yes the dryer set does get hot but she gives you ear muffs to protect your ears. I have been coming to this salon for over ten years. I live on the other side of town. Therefore, it is not really convenient for me, and I often visit other salons close to where I live. However, when I want a really good cut and really good service, I come to Lisa's. The staff is always friendly and everyone speaks as if they know you personally....smiling and inquiring "how have you been?" Lisa takes a good look at my hair and does exactly what is asked. They up charge if you're a black natural woman. I walked in and asked how much a wash was and a woman told me $40, five min later she asked if I was natural and then told me $55. Most people have natural hair but they only charge you more if you're black and natural which in mind is discriminatory. My hair texture is not course and easily straightens with the blow dryer. The fact that I was up charged before they even saw the texture of my hair was mind blowing. They've never asked one of their fellow Dominicans if their hair is natural because they know it is and they still charge them less. I was happy with the way my hair was when I was finished but I will not be going back. The three stars is not because I didn't like my hair, it is because I was discriminated on. read more

Lisa I am really not happy that I had to post this poor review. I have always had great respect for your business, but this was my birthday and as biggie small use to rap it was one of my "worst days". Your stylist Mary clearly knew she did not give me the royal treatment and feeling good when I left your shop on my Birthday that day was a major milestone for me and I kind of fault you Lisa because it is your shop. You know and Mary know she was not supposed to put color on top of color in the same day she could have damaged my hair to know returns, she had put in the wrong color then she went back and added another color over top of that color...and then you had the nerve to charge me and because I am natural in which we are born with natural hair unless you add chemicals does not distinguish the type of hair you have.... Very unhappy and because I trust you stylist you'll are the ones who went to school to study hair and color if what I asked for was not going to give me the blue look that i wanted as a stylist you'll suppose to know how to boost the color etc. I will not ever be returning. I have been stewing over this for a few months and it kind of have given me second thoughts about dominicans ever doing my hair again and I am not prejudice I have koreans doing my hair and they do a great job! As long as your shop mistreat your customers just for buck (I'm just saying) need I say more. While your other stylist in there doing hair with customers in the shop is so unprofessional too me. They can do their hair on their own time and then your customer get a shady service..... I've been going here since I was a kid but I haven't really went to Mari. She is the best. And she's so gentle if you tell her. Like at most Dominican salons, during a blowout I'm usually crying by the time they get to the top since my hair is so thin at the top. Not with Mari. She'll turn down the heat and you'll still leave with some body to your hair. Like other reviews they did change the price but now it's just Mari and Lisa left to pay all the bills here so it makes sense. read more

I've been going to Lisa's since I took my weave out 7 mos ago out and am now o'naturale. The stylist there speaks minimal English. They charge by the length, so I pay $55 (my hair stops below my collar bone) for wash and set. I rarely have to wait and have bn going to same stylist (Moddy) since I started going. When I leave, my hair is silky smooth and w/o exercise, rain or any other moisture, I can get a good 2 wks out of my hair. The ONLY con I have is the dryer. It's SOOOOO hot!! Yes, if you go, dress cool!!! Otherwise, I'd HIGHLY recommend this salon. read more

This is a review from 2014. Being semi-new to the area, I was really excited to find a dominican hair salon who can tame my curly mane. They have a private parking lot and it's central to downtown Silver Spring. I should note I'm somewhat OCD when it comes to cleanliness and usually do my own hair. Anyhow, when I saw the initial hairdresser using the same comb on my hair as she did the customer before me without letting it sit in the barbicide or at least using a clean one, I freaked (internally, of course). I kindly asked if she could rinse the comb. She politely apologized, stating she forgot, and did so. The second hairdresser was different than the first and signaled me over to her chair after I finished in the dryer. She made the same mistake in using the same comb used on the customer before me on my hair without cleaning it. I kindly asked her too if she wouldn't mind cleaning it. She started distastefully cleaning the hair off the brush while my first hairdresser started speaking to her in Spanish explaining to clean the brushes. She then hands me the brush and comb and points to the hair washing sinks. It was clear my request upset her so I just headed over to the sinks to do it myself. Meanwhile, she's speaking frantically in Spanish to my first hairdresser. All I could make out of it was her telling her that the brush and comb are clean and that she's not new to doing hair. As I go back to hand her the clean brush and comb, she snatches them from my hand and hands me another set to clean saying the initial set I handed to her were hers and that I can clean and use the one handed to me. At that point, I had it with her uncouthness and asked if there was someone else available. She walked away cursing and a young girl came over and sat me down. In total, it took an unnecessarily long 3.5 hrs (as my hair usually takes no more than 2hrs). Nonetheless, my hair got done and looks great! It was definitely a lesson for me to always bring my own comb and brush if I ever come back to this place. Overall, 2 stars only because there were two hairdressers who seemed to understand that my request should have been heard and that cleanliness is important when doing hair. read more

This salon has a huge window advertisement stating Tuesday wash and sets are $25, however I've gone to this business on a Tuesday twice and paid well over $25 due to a bunch of excuses made by the employees. The first time I was told my daughters hair was too thick so it cost me $75...Big jump from $25, but ok I understood as she does have extremely thick hair. The second time I was charged $45 for my hair which is fine and easy to manage. I was asked if I wanted an alternative conditioner, which I declined and was over charged $20. I feel like the owner picks and chooses who to over charge and when asked why the price is much higher they give bland excuses. I'm fine paying for a service If that cost is communicated up front, however if you advertise a special on a specific day you should honor it. This business clearly false advertises and treats each client different. I'm not sure if this is how they treat new clients or African American clients, but I will not be returning. My hair was okay, however they used a flat iron after blowing it out which is different than what I've gotten from a Dominican salon in New York. I've been looking for a good Dominican Salon in Downtown SS, MD. There are about a dozen of them and the reviews are all over the place - so I finally decided to give several of them a try (and review them since I'm using Yelp to find them). To keep it fair, I'm asking each salon for a wash & set with my own deep conditioner. No chemicals, cuts, or special requests. The positive: Reasonably clean, older building and equipment. Small parking lot in the back, on street parking also available. Open late, takes their last client at 630p M-F. I was seated immediately at 615p on a Thurs and left the salon by 745p. Used the deep conditioner I brought with me at no additional charge. Styled and then wrapped my hair for me since I was going home for the evening. The next day, a friend that's known me for years mentioned how nice my hair looked. My hair lasted well over a week with minimal home styling (wrapped and tied in a scarf at night). Single stylist start to finish. Minimal English, but smiling and seemed nice. Finally, Lisa's is on the cheaper end of the scale at $35 The negative: !!!!!OUCH!!!!! The smiling was just to lure you in - Dear Jesus this lady was rough with me! First she scratched my scalp to lift any dandruff with a rat tailed comb - OK. Then 3x washes with a lot of scrubbing (one of the shampoos smelled like tea tree oil). At that point, I piped up. She responded "Oh, you're sensitive" I said yes, even though I'm really not at all in hopes that she would back off a little. When she set my hair it felt like she was tugging a lot. My relaxer was only 2 weeks old at the time, so I could *not* figure out what the problem was. After I ducked out of her hands for the 2nd time, I piped up again. I wear glasses, so I couldn't see very well in the mirror, but after she was finished I checked the comb she was using - of course it was FULL of hair. Did I mention that this relaxer was only 2 weeks old? Too late to fix it now, I continued on to the dryer - which was set on DRAGON. My back was wet with sweat by the time I got up. Other ladies in the shop apparently knew what to expect. All three of them were wearing tank tops. Blow out - I couldn't tell if it was really too hot or if it was just that my scalp was missing a layer of skin at that point. The only reason this is a two star review is that my hair looked fantastic for days (and however much is missing, its not noticeable) OTOH, my daughter is truly tender-headed and she would have run out of this shop screaming. Maybe I'll threaten her with it the next time she cuts up. Not recommended. read more

I used to frequent Lisa's Salon for about 3 years and it was decent. Pros: conveniently located by 495 in Silver Spring, ample parking, reasonable prices, can do hair pretty well Cons: often crowded and hot, tend to rush if you show up too close to closing time, leave you under the dryer forever As far as prices go, a wash/set is around $40, relaxer is about $70..all depending on hair length/texture. I stopped going there after I decided to go natural (no more relaxers) and overheard them talking negatively about my hair in spanish and suggesting I get a relaxer again--it completely turned me off. My mother still goes here for relaxers and she is pleased with it. read more

On Sunday mornings they open at 9 am... I needed a basic wash, set & trim. With friendly staff and quick service I got my request - nothing more, nothing less! One thing that is a big plus, you can get cash back in the case that you forgot tip money. Overall great experience! read more

I love this hair salon!!! I I just moved to Silver Spring and was looking for a hair salon that had great quality, was affordable, and close by. YELP research pointed me in the direction of Lisa's Hair Salon. I've found my new Hair Salon! I simply walked in, and was taken immediately, by Marie. I had my hair colored, very efficiently, then sat under the dryer , while the color "took,"and then had a fabulous hair-washing. I love how Marie washed and conditioned my hair!! My hair felt like it was very clean. And my scalp felt tingly and like it had been massaged. Then, I was passed over to another woman (Denise? I didn't catch her name.) who carefully and quickly put a deep conditioner on my hair and then put it into rollers, and put me back under the hair-dryer to dry. I hadn't had rollers in my hair since my High School Prom! But, Lisa explained that my hair was too dry and damaged to dry with a blow dryer and brush. And, Lisa was RIGHT!!! My hair hasn't looked and felt this good nor my scalp felt this soothed, in YEARS!!! Not exaggerating!! I love it!!! I will return! read more

My hair was looking great by the end of it. BUT I was charged $10 extra when I was told $60. They know how to execute straight hair, but the heat was excessive and the price was a little more than what I expected. I was told that I need a texturizer and that's why they get 3 stars. Very disappointed in this salon! I went there to get my hair colored. The owner who added the color forgot to put the cloth liner around the plastic cap on my head (to catch dripping dye) before putting me under the dryer. Needless to say, a few minutes later the hair dye started dripping down my face and the dye got into my eye. My eye started burning, I waved her over to me and she come running with the liner thing to put around my head. She and another worker proceeded to rush my over to the since to rinse my burning eye and afterwards, told me to stay there with my head hanging over the sink for the next 10 minutes or so. My neck was hurting and I'm sitting there thinking "what the hell am I experiencing, this is bad". She came back, proceeded to rinse my hair out and finish the rest of the process like nothing happened. Not one did she apologize for what happened. And when my hair was done she still charged me full price. I will NEVER EVER go back there again. It was the worst most unprofessional hair experience I've ever received. I've been there several times over the years and have noticed that the clientele has dropped significantly and I use to wonder why, now I know. Another lost customer!!!! read more
