I'm well overdue for an update. Lisa's salon is no-frills. Like, zero. But, she and Sandy (who has left to open her own salon) do the best nails I've had done, consistently. Have religiously went to the same place as long as I can remember, but after getting a Manicure out of state recently I realized that maybe Im in need of something a little different than my normal place, so I set out to Yelp to see some pics and read some reviews & found Lisa's... Called made an appt and headed right over, because I was desperate for a THICK, Gel manicure. I went to NJ recently and the Mani (Girls Weekend Salon getaway) I received there was SOO thick that it didnt chip for 3 weeks. Like SERIOUSLY!!! So then after coming back & going back to my reg place, My mani chipped after a week and I just wanted thicker!! The place is small and not a luxurious overpriced salon, its just some tables & Pedi Chairs... BUT OMG, She cleaned up my cuticles just like I like, gave me extra coats (without me even asking) to make them nice & thick (and Im not talking 3 inches, but just a little thicker and more strong feeling than just reg polish) She had a large selection of colors, the place was super clean. Will DEFINITELY be back... Now I just have to figure out how to tell my reg place Im cheating on them! :-( Cant wait to try a Pedi too. read more

The first time I went in there I was wowed by how fast they did my fill. I am not exagerating but you can go in and about for a mani and pedi in less than 1 hour!!! Thats's great isn't it??? Oh well, I realized that the 15-20 minutes I was saving weren't doing me any good. My nails were constantly broken because they weren't doing a good job :( she wasn't taking enough time to do the fill and they ALWAYS broke.. I called ahead for a pedicure early Saturday afternoon. I'm glad I did because they only had two technicians working but they were able to fit me in. Their pedicures are fast but efficient but good quality. They are friendly. The pedicure was $26 which was a good price for the treatment. They only take tips in cash so make sure you have some on you. read more

Ok, I don't normally like to give this bad of a review but I had no choice. I have been a customer here for such a long time. I don't go here all the time but I go in here enough times to know this place was good. I came here today to get gel removed and gel polish put on. The lady that helped me did a TERRIBLE JOB. First of all my nails were filed slanted, I had some dip polish to hold down some cracks I had in my nails from previous .. she didn't even remove it she just painted over the gel AND SHE DIDNT EVEN CUT MY CUTICLES she just pushed them down!!!! To top all that off their prices went up I paid 29$ for a shitty gel manicure. I am so upset I didn't want to complain because I knew she was new. Regardless of anything though I won't be back here because I can pay less for better elsewhere. read more

As a climber, the thought of a manicure often seems ridiculous. But sometimes we all need a little ridiculous in our lives. Pedicures, on the other hand, are always a necessity. Lisa's is my go to place. It's not fancy. You won't feel extravagant coming here (and neither will your pocketbook). But the ladies who work here do their jobs with a collective efficiency and attention to detail that I appreciate more than I appreciate fancy robes or pricey product upsells. I also appreciate that they listen when I ask them to leave me with some calluses on my feet (I need those.). At least once I have totally messed up my nail polish just getting from the manicure station to the drying station, and my nail tech fixed it without so much as a sigh or eye roll. A mani-pedi combo will run you $38. If you want to come in on a weekend call ahead, because word is out and this place is jam packed Saturdays and Sundays. They do take cards, but Lisa will love you if you pay cash, and if you become a cash paying regular you may occasionally even evince a smile from her. Once your polish is thoroughly dried cross the street to Highland Kitchen. You'll probably find me at the bar there. read more

Before a girls night out, I convinced the lovely Lu B to come with me to get a manicure. I had been having a pretty crappy week, to say the least, and needed to get out, be around other people, and not think about everything that was going on. Lisa's was a five minute walk down the street, and though there were several people getting pedicures, one woman was readily available to do take us on one at a time. We picked our colors and got started. Our technician was very quiet and quick, which was ok. I was a little perturbed that her method for disinfecting the tools she used was a quick swipe with a cotton ball soaked in something, but I haven't gotten an infection (yet) so no judgment there. The service is minimal, but they have a good selection of colors, and my mani ended lasting over a week with only a few minor chips, which is impressive considering what I put my nails through. For a quick mani, this is a good place to have around the corner. read more

This place does such a great job and they're just hidden away on Highland Ave near City Hall. I've had manicures and pedicures here. They have nice staff, the place is clean, and I've never had a wait as a walk-in client. The manis and pedis last a really, really long time, which is great when you consider how fast their service is. The prices are also very reasonable and they keep good hours, open until 7 on weeknights and open all day on saturdays AND sundays. There is plenty of parking on the street but there are also a couple small parking lots nearby; one on the same side of Highland but across from Anthony's, and two more behind Dunkin' Donuts and then behind the nail salon itself. they are also on the 88 and 90 bus routes, which have stops in front of the Dunks across the street from the salon. After moving from Southie to Somerville 3 years ago I had to find a new reasonably priced, AND clean place to get my nails done. On a suggestion of a friend, I tried Lisas on Highland Ave, and was very happy. Parking can be tough depending the time of day, and you might need a few quarters handy for the meters. It's a small salon with 4 manicure booths, and 3 pedi chairs. An appointment is recommended but not necessary, they take walk in. Open mon-sat and Sunday's in the summer. The ladies of Lisas always do an excellent job, and you are in and out-I've had a gel mani and pedi in less then an hour. Like most places, bring cash for tip! read more

I had to create a Yelp account just to review this place! I absolutely LOVE Lisa's Nails! I wanted to get a full set and I was around the Somerville area waiting for a show to start and went in here for convenience. I am so glad that I did because they hooked my nails up. My full set lasted for 3 weeks and could have been longer but my new growth made me cringe. They are clean, take there time and are very sweet women. I've already been back for my refill and I will continue to travel to Somerville to get my nails done. Note: Cash is preferred. They do except CC but you can't leave a tip on them. read more

My two stars are because my gel manicure only lasted ONE WEEK. And that is it. My sister got a pedicure and loved it - quick, efficient, no frills, nothing fancy. There is no massage, sugar scrub, or the normal 'extras' you'd get - but the price is right, the pedi was $24 and I think that's super-reasonable. I got a gel manicure only. It was $26 - which is cheap for a gel manicure. Most in my area cost $30-$40. I've paid that, and had them last much longer, so maybe that's why. I believe the product she used was CND shellac. What happened is that after only 3 DAYS the gel was peeling away from my cuticles - completely. 3 days! Ridiculous, these are supposed to last 2 weeks with no chipping & no issues. After 7 days they had peeled off around the entire edge. Out of frustration and my nails catching on EVERYTHING because of peeled gel polish, I pulled the gel off (instead of soaking them off, I know, terrible). Make an appointment, if you walk in, there are only 1-2 people working and won't be able to fit you in. We walked in and come back two hours later (which was totally fine with us, just a heads up if you have time restraints). Long story short - great pedicure - normal manicure is probably good - no frills, no massage or special work, but very cheap and efficient. I would, however, NOT pay for a gel manicure here. Shell out $5 - $10 more for staying power someplace else. read more

I am new to the area and was driving to my housemates office when I saw Lisa's Nails one block from my destination. I knew that I needed to get a mani/ pedi for a Cancun vacation over Labor Day weekend. So I parked the car and walked the block to the nail salon. I sat down Lisa, or who I think is Lisa, walked over to me and with a peed off look on her face, asked me, "Can I help you?" I told her what I wanted, and she asked if I could wait. Sure! I told her. About ten minutes later, I was in the pedi chair. Another lady was doing my pedi and mani and she was more pleasant. My first time in here, but it will not be the last. I wish that Lisa would smile or say hi or just not have an "I'm mad at the world" look on her face. I went there to get a gel manicure. A first everything seemed nice, clean and she didn't let me wait to long. I tried to explain how I wanted my manicure but she didn't really understand due to the language barrier I guess. Once she putted the gel on, I asked if it was still possible to short them a bit more, I could understand if not since the gel was already on, but she rolled her eyes and told me very annoyed that no, she can't short them. To dry the gel, they only have a vent. I'm used to have the UV light. I wasn't happy with the result of my manicure. The nails were uneven, there are bubbles of air under the gel, and my nails were hurting afterwards. read more

i've been to lisa's nails on and off for a couple years now. this is a vietnamese-run nail salon with a host of women on staff. it's run by immigrants, just like an asian restaurant. be nice. it's no frills but they do good work. the pedicure chairs have massage controls. the place is clean and doesn't smell like a salon (you know what i mean. i've always hated that smell). and pretty much for the lowest prices you can find in town, they do manis and pedis. i think they bumped up the pedi price to 26, but again, versus others who charge double, this is still quite fine. service quality varies depending on who you work with, but in my experience is generally very good to excellent. i had a younger gal a couple times who wasn't my favorite, but the others have been quite good, and the woman i worked with today definitely took the time to work out all my calluses. i'm not sure about the person who says you pay and tip in advance. having only done pedis, i've always paid and tipped afterwards. tips are cash only as is customary in many service institutions. and if the polish messes up afterwards in the day, you're welcome to return for a free touchup, because they want to make it right. because they're awesome. i've been to other places with better foot massages, etc etc, but again, paid at least 50. this is worth your while in terms of quality for the buck. by the way, you can park on the street but if you're on the meter, the meter maids will get you. be careful. there is also plenty of 2 hour free parking nearby as well. read more

I appreciate that for $35, I can get a full spa Mani/pedi with O.P.I. or Essie polish. I haven't done gel, but they do that too. From setting up an appointment to having my toes wrapped in plastic so my pedicure wouldn't be ruined when I put my shoes back on, my experience at Lisa's Nails was excellent. My friend and I went in for a manicure and pedicure, respectively, on a Tuesday after work and we had the place to ourselves. The service was great, the price was right ($12 for her manicure, $23 for my pedicure) and it was a nice respite from the rain. I was in dire need of some TLC for my toes, and didn't want to spend a fortune. After a quick search on yelp for a place near me and Lisa's looked right. I didn't call first, just drove on over and put 4 quarters in the meter out front. There were 2 other customers there when I walked in, but they were able to take me right away. I happily climbed into the chair and set the massage to auto pilot, while my toes were scrubbed and polished to perfection. I paid the extra $5.00 for a french manicure because I'm way too indecisive to pick a color. I am pretty picky about french manicures, and I tend to notice any slight imperfection that most people probably wouldn't notice or mind (my crazy critical mind is hard to control at times), but this pedicure was perfect. I love that she put my sandals on before applying the polish so not to smudge them afterwards. I sat under the drying lamp for 4 or 5 cycles and left with dry, perfect, pretty toes and 5 minutes still left on the meter. This was 3 days ago, and my toes look as good today as they did when I walked out of the salon. Not a single chip after 3 days of walking around in flip flops or sandals (even to the dog park!) I have been coming for years because they are the best. Lisa stayed late today to take care of me which I appreciate very much. My pedi and gel mani are perfect. Someone posted it wasn't right to pay up front. Well, if you are getting a regular mani (vs gel), they don't want your mani to get ruined while you get your wallet out and pull out a card or cash.
