I was highly disappointed in all aspects considering the reviews. Came with a group since we were in the mood for Greek and others have been touting this establishment regularly. We were promptly seated for our reservations in a small alcove off the main dining room. The server dropped off menus and didn't bother to take a drink order. He then returned, dropped off some bread, read us the specials and still didn't take a drink order. After finally waving him down we were able to order drinks but one of them was incorrect and had to be returned. When that came back we ordered appetizers for the table and our entrees. I read through the menu and found very few actual Greek dishes, most were continental style entrees including some with French sauces. I finally settled on the double lamb chops which I requested medium. The appetizers arrives and were quite good, we particularly liked the fried chips and tzatziki and the octopus was also well received. However when my lamb arrived I had one chop that was medium and the other was overcooked to the point it was grey. I'm not quite sure how you can prepare two chops at the same time and have them come out at different temps. The sides were also underwhelming, mushy green beans and overly lemony/salted potatoes. They did the right thing and removed the charge. However the service and lack of detail to my entrée left me feeling that the price points they are aiming for means they really need to deliver, and they didn't. read more

The place was basically empty on a Friday night ...need I say more? I won't be returning. Offensively bad experience. It's no longer owned by Greeks and it is very evident (it is now owned by Albanians). This is absolutely not, in any way, shape, or form, a Greek estiatorio. It is overpriced Italian food masquerading as Greek food. You're better off going down the road to the fast food Greek place (I won't name it so people don't think I am affiliated with them, but you can google it) -The dinner menu barely has any Greek dishes, other than the appetizers. All I could see was risotto this or bolognese that. -One of the members of our party wanted chicken souvlaki and the waiter (a brazilian guy who acted like a clown) looked at her like she had 2 heads. "Oh, let me ask the chef if he has them.." Are you kidding me? What sort of Greek restaurant has to inquire whether or not they have CHICKEN SOUVLAKI? That's like a Mexican restaurant not having a burrito LOL -The risotto is overcooked and disgusting; if you can't get a risotto right, you are not putting in the time/effort to warrant the prices you charge. -Prices are exorbitant for the food they serve (Manhattan prices) -This Place tries REALLY hard to be upscale but they fail miserably. Don't clean the table with a crumb-scraper and then the next second have the waiter calling me "boss" or call me by first name - we are not friends. Call your patrons sir/madam and say "pardon my reach". I don't require such niceties, but if you're going to charge those prices and try to come off as fine dining, try to get the basics right and look the part. You are way out of your league. -The appetizers are the only Greek thing on the menu, and only in name. Take the spanakopita for example...it's almost certainly bought from Costco. Rather than being sliced from a tray out of the oven, they serve the pre-packaged triangle-shaped garbage. Embarrassing. -The lamb shank is doused with some sort of red sauce - one of the ugliest presentations of a dish I have ever seen. Not appetizing or tasty. -All the waiter did was up-sell, right from the opening offer of "what kind of water" would you like. I don't appreciate the "Oh, you want New Jersey water?" quip when we asked for tap water. You're not funny. There's actually another 1-star review further down with a customer complaining about the same thing (in his case, he ordered wine and the waiter implied that it was too cheap). Your job is to make your customers feel welcome, not like they are being cheap. You should be ashamed of yourself. -All this waiter (bald guy) did was promote the filet mignon, red snapper, buratta appetizer (Italian food) etc. How about naming a few GREEK specials? Pastitsio? Paidakia? Stifado? No? Just overpriced $50$ rib-eye steaks? AVOID. You're been warned. read more

Love Lithos but I do have a couple of small concerns. First of all, they made me what was absolutely the worst Bloody Mary I have ever had. I actually sent it back which was a first for me. Also, you should be mindful of what you're ordering. A friend of mine ordered a piece of sea bass the other night and it was $58. I think that's ridiculous. Now that I've gotten those things off my shoulders, on to the good. This is a stunning restaurant. Visually striking and spacious. The layout is quite nice with a comfortable bar area and plenty of room for dining. A word of caution, however, is that you should have a reservation if going there on a weekend. Waits can be long and finding a seat at their bar can be tedious if not impossible. Many people opt to simply order their meals at the bar so there isn't much turnover in seating. Love the fresh fish bar where you can see exactly what it is you'll be ordering from its pristine state, to weigh in and onto the kitchen. It's particularly nice for a large party where you can order a variety of fishes and share them amongst yourselves. Their food is delicious as are their drinks (Bloody Mary excluded, of course). Service is extremely professional. Lithos has become part of my regular Livingston area rotation along with The Strip House and McLoones. Of the three, their food is the best. You really can't go wrong but again, make sure you have a reservation. read more

My fiancé and I ordered two Greek salads with grilled chicken for pick-up. When I showed up to pay, I was ASTONISHED to find a bill for $49. I was so shocked that I (stupidly) gave them my card, and they charged me. When I came back to the car with that bill, my fiancé was understandably incredulous over that pricing. He brought the salads back in, informing one of the staff members that according to the menu on their website, a Greek salad costs $10 -- there's no way the grilled chicken could cost $30! The guy insisted that that's how much they charge for chicken (and it's not even listed on the website), and told my fiancé he didn't want to argue with him. He brought the salads back to the kitchen... and well, you can see in the picture what a $25 salad looks like. It's really disappointing that this was our first experience at this place. Lithos is the reason I don't always write a review on the first date. My first time here was a disaster. I ordered Chilean sea bass which came frozen in the middle. The second one they brought out was exactly the same. We left and the check full of apps and drinks was handled by the restaurant. Given that they were somewhat new to the area, I decided to give it another try. And another. And another... Lithos is literally one of the best restaurants in Livingston for a variety of reasons. Their service is great - from the bar to the host to the servers. They have an amazing bar that is so warm and cozy and inviting, full of wines, beers and specialty cocktails (try the lemon ginger martini or berry gin cocktail). I could sit here all day. They even have an outdoor space behind the bar which I can't wait to check out in the warmer months. The food is really good too. While I enjoy their entrees, particularly the ionian kakavia (clams, mussels, lobster, scallops in a fish broth pasta), their appetizers are just as good. So good, we have made full meals out of them. They make some of the best tzatzkai, delicious mussels and clams, and fresh lobster salad. There's a lot to choose from, both entree and app wise whether you are a sea, land or veggie lover. The atmosphere here is really fantastic. Warm fireplaces, clean white linens and a fresh fish bar right in front. They accept OpenTable reservations and have valet parking. Definitely perfect for date night or special occasion meal. read more

Upscale restaurant but the $19 three course prix fixe lunch special made it very affordable to the blue-collar workers. I ordered a chicken pasta (entree) for my son, a Greek salad (appetizer) for myself, and a dessert to share. The food was pretty good, but the dessert a little too sweet, it's prix fixe, so that's the only option. Wish we could have more choices on desserts. Service was good, all the waiter and waitress seemed to be happy, and the owner came to each table to greet his guests. Came here last night for a work dinner with my CEO and two of my doctors, at the suggestion of one of my doctors who is a regular here. I found Lithos to be very nicely done. Spacious, classy, and obviously newly renovated. For a Thursday night, I felt it was quite empty, but the location is sort of awkward, standing alone right off of Eisenhower parkway. There is a spot in the main dining area where fresh fish are kept on ice, and you are able to choose one as your meal. Our server was very helpful and knowledgable, pointing out each fish, describing its taste, and informing us of the price. Being the only female at the table, I felt like a baby, but called him over and asked if the fish came with the head. He said yes, it usually does, but if I wanted the head and the tail cut off, they would certainly do that for me. I told him the eyes freaked me out, and the doctor sitting to my right agreed. So we shared a black bass---- EYES AND TAIL FREE. It was very good- not much of a fishy flavor. Came with green vegetables which were also very enjoyable. As appetizers we shared the Greek Tomato salad, as well as the calamari wrapped around three cheeses. I did not try the calamari, as it only came with Three pieces (there were four of us), and I wasn't the hugest fan of what it looked like... I'm not really into raw looking things. But everyone else enjoyed it. The tomato salad was delicious. Although the restaurant was rather empty, the bar off to the side was more bumping. Looked like a bit of a younger, professional crowd, and I would have liked to mingle a bit over there! Prices here were sort of high for the area, but the atmosphere inside the restaurant, as well as the quality of the food sort of justified the prices. Four stars for an attentive wait staff, quality food, and good atmosphere. There is also an outdoor area that didn't seem to be open, but would have loved to sit out there. Lithos is a fairly new classy Greek restaurant in the area. Situated in the midst of nothingness on Eisenhower Pkway, don't be misguided by the lack of cars in front during lunch hour. I came here for weekday lunch, and it was packed! The restaurant is bi-level with a large island bar and booths on the main level, and restrooms and more tables on the second level (wheelchair-accessible with a ramp!) This place is perfect for a holiday party or just a special occasion/celebratory meal. Since the entrees ranged from $12-15 already, my mother and I decided to try the Prix-Fixe lunch for $19. My chicken and lemon soup was perfection! I loved how the subtlety of the lemon flavor actually highlighted the chicken even more. My mother got the Spanakopita and she thoroughly enjoyed it! Her fish entree was incredible, but I absolutely loved the Orzo a la ouzo, easily the best I've ever tasted! With a touch of spiciness and mixed with the shrimp, the orzo was cooked just right. The chef's choice dessert was baklava, and that was pretty good too. And the service was very attentive. From the hostess to the servers, we could not have been more pleased by the amount of care and professionalism the staff expressed during our lunch. Can't wait to come back! read more

Just had a very nice lunch with wife and friend of 3 appetizers, a salad and dessert. Loved the environment! Past restaurants in this remote location have failed and we feel this one has every right to thrive. The food was great - grilled calamari, garides sakanaki, which is a plate of 6 shrimp in spicy red sauce, and feta aiginis, a delicious phyllo wrapped feta with a thyme-honey sauce. We finished with baklava which was the freshest and crispest I have every eaten. It can be either causal or fancy, depending on your mood, but is classy enough for a date or a fun lunch. Great wine selection. Great service. Very neat overall with nice bathrooms, too. Highly recommend this one. I have not yet been here for dinner. The prices are a bit steeper than the location can probably support. More like NYC prices. I do hope they stay open! I will come back. read more

Upscale for Livingston, looks like a place from Hoboken or NYC. Attentive staff, nice owner. Great place for business lunches, celebrations. I went there two days ago, after studying the online menus, jonesing for vegetarian moussaka. I was told that they don't serve that anymore and they just changed up their menu two days prior my visit. The online menu is still wrong. The Priz fixe is one sheet of paper with very limited choices. So, I ordered the regular moussaka and it was visually appealing, filling, and flavorful, like a Mediterranean shepherds pie. The bechamel sauce was extremely dense. My friend ordered the chicken souvlaki and it was a large portion as well. The ingredients looked fresh, it also had a small salad in the plate with a generous piece of feta. The pita bread was toasted just right and the tzaziki sauce had some extra garlic flavoring to it. I ordered a dessert which had "chocolate" in the description. When it arrived, my friend and I thought the wrong dessert came because we could not find chocolate, just a mere dusting of it in the middle of the dessert. I was more than a bit disappointed. I asked the waiter about the phyllo texture and he said it should be crispy. It wasn't and I informed him. He said" some people really like the dessert and some don't". For 9$ on dessert, I would like a little more than a dusting of chocolate, please. My friend ordered baklava and it was anything but dry. She actually found it too moist and neither of us finished out dessert plates, which is almost unheard of. read more

Wow, what an incredible experience at Lithos! I absolutely love Greek food and have been looking forward to visiting Lithos to see what they had to offer. Having tried authentic Greek food in the past at some great places, but more of a casual environment, I was excited to try Greek food at a more fine dining setting. My Saturday night experience here began after pulling up to the restaurant and gladly seeing they offer free valet parking. The restaurant itself is beautiful from the outside and as soon as you walk in, it is designed with a modern feel inside, yet very romantic. A Valentines Day menu is displayed as soon as you walk in for those looking to dine somewhere nice for that night. This place is huge by the way and has different themes throughout. For example, The booth areas are all white leather seating which has a Miami feel to it with candles throughout the restaurant. There is also a patio area for the summertime that looks great and there is also a venue downstairs for parties. I didn't get to look as there was a party going on and didn't want to impose. There is a section where there is a fireplace in the area which is very cozy and romantic. Near the booths, there is the section of displayed fresh fish of the day sitting on ice with a beautiful large oil painting right over it. This area is great because if you choose a fish of the day, they bring it right over to you to make sure it is the right size you requested and to make sure it is the one you want before they prepare it in the kitchen. I love that idea that you can choose your catch of the day before it is prepared. The fish I chose was the Branzino and I requested close to two pounds. My server brought over a 1.7 pounder which was perfect and the Branzino looked beautiful. But before getting into that, I want to tell you about my whole experience before I had ordered my entree. I actually ended up dining in the bar area and started off with looking at the bottled wines and loved that they offer Greek wines from all over Greece. I ordered a Northern Greek wine called Mayiko Bouvo - Magic Mountain which is a dry Sauvignon Blanc and was priced at $75. This wine was so amazing I ended up ordering another bottle for dinner! The wine really complimented all of the dishes I tried that night. Besides the complimentary bread and delicious spread they give you while you look through the menu, I ordered the assorted dips from the appetizer menu that came with Tzatziki, Eggplant Capanota, and Hummus and I also ordered the Grilled Octopus which is a must have here. Their specials had a Blue Point Oysters with Sturgeon Caviar and they were the best oysters I've had yet. These are also a must have when you visit, and I also ordered a second one because it was so good! Now when you order the fish of the day, you have to give them 25 minutes to prepare the fish so after I indulged in all of those appetizers, the fish was ready and I was very eager to try that amazing looking Branzino. I asked for olive oil for my table to drizzle some on my fish. The fish came with a vegetable so I chose the brussel sprouts. Everything was so amazing and the service was top notch. My server/bartender Silvia made my experience all the more pleasant. After that $350 bill came for a dinner for two, I left happy and pleased.
