The chicken was tender and flavorful, especially when she put the sauce on it, and the veggies were cooked just right. And the portion was good, too. Mom loved it so much she told our waiter she was sorry she hadn't eaten here earlier. Service was also good, though it took a little time for our food to come. Recently attended a dinner party my sister in law hosted at Lithos. Atmosphere is peaceful and unhurried. We had a private section by the fire place which was nice and cozy on a rainy day. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful dinner at Lithos on Sunday. The lobster souvlaki appetizer was AMAZING. He had the moussaka (traditional Greek dish which looks like a lasagna but it is potato and eggplant based with spiced beef) - he loved it. I had a shrimp dish served over orzo in tomato sauce and it was very good. They have a great wine selection and dessert menu (let's be honest - this is how I pre-screen my restaurant choices lol). Lovely ambiance and lovely meal! I ordered the Dover Sole special and my husband had the lamb chops. Both were delectable. As an appetizer we had the calamari; it was to die for- extremely fresh! All the fish was very fresh; they have a fish tank. They have a nice wine selection and even some beer from Greece. I followed the advice of my customer and went eating to this restaurant. Being a big lover of Greece, Greek food, and frequent traveller to Greece, I didn't want to miss this opportunity. Despite the fact that the restaurant has no Greek charm at all, I told myself, ok at least the atmosphere is ok. It is more like a "wanna be" high scale restaurant style. The first disappointment I got, was when I looked at the menu! They had some mezes with typical greek dishes but the rest was more like an invented greek menu with dishes far away from the typical greek cuisine. So we ended up ordering fried saganaki cheese, tzatziki with pita bred, and grilled calamari for appetizer. The tzatziki as also the other salads where so far away from the original recipe! The saganaki cheese was too dry. The calamari was acceptable but nothing special. My colleague ordered a whole fish (dorada) and I took lamb with giouvetsi (kind of small pasta). The fish was a good size and pretty well done. The lamb dish was not my taste at all. BTW, the waiter was so bad! He was never present at the table. Left us alone for such a long time. Didn't take care of the guests and we hardly could understand him when he was talking. Just not acceptable for such a price range! My last disappointment was the dessert. I was looking so forward to the galaktoboureko because I love this dish. Whenever I'm in Greece, I never miss a galaktoboureko! The one in this restaurant was a CATASTROPHE! I am so disappointed to be writing this review. Lithos was my favorite restaurant for years. Food has always been of the highest quality. Service second to none. I have been twice in the past month and will not be returning, which makes me sad. The menu is slightly different from before. Which could be fine if ingredients were still the same. Nothing tastes fresh. My favorite dish has always been the swordfish, which used to be a large portion of fish grilled in the best olive oil and lemon and served over cous cups and mushrooms. The fish is now small with an awful tomato and spinach sauce. Plain white rice fills the plate. Applies were small and tasteless. Service was marginal. Prices still high but I'm no longer ok paying a premium for subpar services. Please make the necessary changes and return to your prior splendor. read more

Do not have your event at this location. The manager is in over her head and is constantly making promises she can't keep. Tried to plan an event here because the space is nice, but the manager would never take our call until we actually showed up in person to talk to her. She made the food and the plan sound great while we were there, and promised that we would get the contract for our event within the next couple days. When we didn't get the contract in the promised amount of time, we called to follow up, at which point she started making excuses and saying that everyone who works here was quitting on her. Now it's clear why they were quitting on her. She promised the contract to us every day for three weeks and even yelled at my Fiancé for following up one time because I had called the day before. Overall, rude and very unprofessional. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Found another place and signed a contract within a day. Take your event needs elsewhere. read more

I recently dined for lunch with three other colleagues. For an appetizer we had "Litho's Chips - Thinly Sliced Pan Fried Zucchini and Eggplant Fritters. They were delicious, couldn't put them down! Only a nice white wine would have made them better, but it was a business lunch.... Lunch was equally good with salads, a sandwich and entree. Coffee thereafter. All in all it was a very good meal. The food was okay but nothing spectacular. The eggplant appetizer was OK, but was tomato heavy, contrasted to the tomato fritters, which were good, but tasted more of sweet potato than tomato. My wife's orzo and shrimp was excellent, but my swordfish had an overly sweet sauce that made no sense and lacked acid. Marring everything was the truly horrendous service. Once the waiter discerned that we were spending less than $300, he basically ignored us, didn't check on us, and couldn't care less how our meal went. The only reason I tipped at all was for the bus staff, who were actually excellent. We waited 20 min for our check after asking and that was the fastest service we received from that slug. One more thing, I used to work in the wine industry, and even in NYC, I've never seen wine marked up at over 300% over retail before. Service and Ambience: Above excellent service, the hostess was very professional and greeted us warmly as soon as we arrived. We were seated near the seafood display, which I thought was pretty neat that they have their fresh fish and fruits displayed so nicely for clients to see. Food: Oh my word, is the food good. Like the other reviews that specified the "lemon chicken soup" - GET IT. I could have eaten just that and walked away happy. I ordered the red snapper, and it was huge. Really big portions and very delicious. It was as our waiter said, about 90% deboned and out of the whole fish, I found 1 or 2 bones - really, really good preparation. The fish was served head and tail on, which I like. SOOO delicious. The horta could have used more salt and lemon though, but the greens were cooked very well. The naganaki was excellent - I always order something cheese-y when I go to Greek restaurants and this did not disappoint!! Price: I would pay again for the quality of the food, the attentiveness and service we received from the staff (I love it when the chef comes out to talk to you about their food!). The only problem with this place is that you spend half the dinner verifying that your'e still in New Jersey.... You're immediately transported to Greece with amazing fair and confident service. The menu provides many classic options each with well thought and perfectly executed additions and twists. You can't go wrong with any of the specials and the fresh fish are made to perfection. The Lithos chips, taramosalata and Feta filled pastry are my favorite starters along with the Greek salad. We've done the Lavraki (Branzino) on a few occasions but consider the short ribs and lamb options as well. DO NOT SKIP desserts. The galaktobourek (spelling?) and walnut cakes alongside the yogurt (honey or various jams accompany) are the go-to... I just got home from Valentine's Day dinner and I had the Chilean sea bass special with mushroom risotto...it was PERFECT. My girlfriend had a medley of delicious seafood with fresh homemade pappardelle. The calamari and phyllo wrapped feta as appetizers fantastic. We started with a few appetizers; the Lithos chips which are delicious and a house salad and octopus. This was my first time eating octopus and can't lie, I liked it! This is our new fun spot. My wife loves the place as they serve great drinks at ok prices. The food in general is pricey so don't go nuts over the sticker shock if you eat here. That said their happy hour, bar specials and early bird prix fixe menus are absolute bargains. Servings sizes here are huge and we quite often come for the appetizers, soup and salad over the entrees. Its hard to actually have room for entrees because the portions are so large. The food is very, very fresh, I personally love the fun owner and have never had an issue with the waitstaff who are really helpful. Front of house gals are really nice and friendly as well. They do sometimes make mistakes but are on it right away if you let them know. They also serve some of the best cocktails in the area. We actually travel 20 minutes from Plainfield just so that my wife can have their tasty cocktails. Generally speaking this is regular Greek food in a nicely done space. They pay attention to details i.e. its not a fake nice place like some places are in NJ. Where the place tries to be upscale yet you see nasty water stains on their drop ceiling panels, holes in the wall and cracks etc...etc... but don't mind that just go for the food and fun atmosphere. Almost forgot for dessert don't hesitate to try their Greek dessert wine by Vinsanto, its made from dried raisins and just bursting with flavor. I like it waaaaaay better than port. read more

I went to Lithos for a work luncheon and was surprised with the big space and seating areas in the restaurant. The service was good and the people were nice.The spanakopita tasted good but it was a little greasy when I got it. The olive and hummus dip was really good with the pitas they serve and the calamari was tender and light. I chose the chicken souvlaki and was pleased with my selection. The chicken was tender and not dry. Since I ordered from the pre fixe menu it also came with a dessert. The baklava had great flavor but it was also very heavy. I would come back to try the other menu items..maybe the lighter fare. read more

These guys sure know how to make delicious food. I'm not at all familiar with Greek food that doesn't come wrapped in a pita, so I can't say whether it's authentic as well. Bear in mind I'm not reviewing the main restaurant. Instead this is a review of their catering, since we had them cater a family function in their basement (very clean look to it in addition to some very pretty wine cellars downstairs). We had the pikilia (tzatziki, melitzanosalata and tirokafteri), grilled calamari, fried calamari with tartar sauce, seafood yuvetsi, eggplant mousaka and some sort of chicken breast. Everything was cooked perfectly, even the grilled calamari. Flavors in every dish and in every bite. And I got to try their baklava. Amazing. It's not the same honey, liquidy baklava you get almost everywhere else. The nut mixture was more dry, yet still had the baklava flavor. I was very impressed. If this place is within your budget and within your driving range, I would definitely give Lithos a try. read more

My wife and I decided to take a journey out of NYC to Short Hills, NJ for a Anniversary weekend getaway and the highlight of the weekend was dining at Lithos! While I am by no means a foodie, and have never tried Greek, I absolutely loved the experience, food & service. I ordered one of the specials (Blacked Red Snapper with a Mushroom Risotto) and my wife ordered their Swordfish dish and we both felt more than satisfied with every bite. The staff there was attentive and kind, timely and responsive to our request. A marvelous experience and we will be driving back there for future special occasions as the Mr. Katsoudas has himself a fine establishment. My husband and I have eaten at Lithos numerous times. We love fresh fish and Greek food and Lithos is a winner in both regards. We ALWAYS start with the grilled octopus. It's a delicious, huge portion. We've tried many different entrees - some are better than others - but most are exceptional. Our favorite is the whole grilled fish which they weigh (and charge a lot per LB) and filet for you. Have you had FRESH grilled sole lately (bet you haven't even though it seems like a common fish)? OMG it's amazing. One issue is it's ridiculously expensive. As good as it is, we only ordered it once. In general, everything's a bit pricey so we therefore only go to Lithos on occasions (birthdays, etc.). If they weren't so overpriced, I'd give them 5 starts without hesitation. read more
