Nice place, very interesting rooms both "new" and "old", definitely worth a look if you are in the area. They need to improve the accessibility of their outside from the main building and need to improve their cigar selling/buying area and also need to add a credit card machine to their main check-in area, but besides that, nice work! read more

The General Sutter Inn is a great restaurant in the heart of Lititz. Quiet dining, a great atmosphere, and attentive staff create the perfect location for a wonderful dinner. The menu has a variety of selections both in flavor and price. I have enjoyed every appetizer, lunch dish, and dinner item that I have chosen. The wine list is not terribly substantial, but the options mesh well with the menu. Don't expect a low cost meal. The prices are in line with the quality of service and dining however. Considering the double play you can experience with The General Sutter Inn and the Bulls Head Public House (Attached), it can be the making of a great night out. The patio in the warmer months is a great addition to both venues. If you have never been here, put it on your list! read more

A great find in small town Americana. Cordially greeted at the door and shown to a lovely table. Erin our waitress couldn't have been more knowledgeable about the menu and her service was impeccable. I had the shrimp fettuccine which was loaded with fresh shrimp. My dining companion had crab cakes and they were the real thing. If the pan fried white sweet potatoes don't come as a side order them. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding. I could have eaten the whole pan. Many have commented on the bartender. They must have been in a different place. We had an absolutely miserable experience here yesterday. This was during the fire and ice festival so it was busy. We waited an hour for a table which was to be expected so I had no qualms with that. The problem was after we sat at the table. We all ordered soup and salads which one would think is an easy quick order to fill. We got our soup, which was actually pretty good, in a longer than expected time but whatever. After that we sat at the table for an hour and still didn't have our salads. The waitress said the kitchen was busy but there were people that came in after us that got their food before us. The Sutter is a staple in Lititz. They rotate their menu for the seasons and there's always something delicious on it. They moved trivia inside off the patio and into the ballroom for the winter, which was great. We kept coming back. This is a great place to come have a cold drink on the patio on a hot day. My husband and I wanted an overnight getaway not to far from our home. I looked up Litiz, Pa since this had been recommended to me several times. I checked it out online and I was very attracted to the look and history of this Inn. I made reservations with the nicest fellow Matt ( what a doll) he was so helpful and told me of the local shops in town. The ride from NJ to this destination was absolutely beautiful. The Lancaster area and rolling roads are occupied by many of the Amish. I witnessed cleanliness, hard working and creative living. As we approached the Inn I thought to myself this is a perfect place to stay. It's old fashioned feel gave me a sense of warmth and comfort. To our surprise there are 3 bars located within the Inn. The bar in what I'll call the middle of the Inn is a larger dining area very casual. To the left of the middle bar is a smaller area with a bar as well but I got a sense of a cafe'~ sitting and chilling with friends type of hangout, also casual. Now there is another bar located in the back area of the lobby. This is where my husband and I dined and had cocktails. Slightly off this bar area is a dining room strictly to dine, dime lighting and white linens. I have to commend the wait staff and the camaraderie amongst all of them! Everyone was wonderful! My husband and I had PEI Mussels, Filet Mignon, Chicken Wings and a Reuben during our stay. The food was good and the prices were on point. Our room was very comfortable and if you needed anything the staff is more than helpful and accommodating! We had breakfast the next morning in the dining area. They had bacon, eggs, bagels, fruit, cereal, juices etc. You will hear music playing in the town I believe from a church, it brought a tear to my eye. If you should need an escape weekend this Inn and town will change your everyday thoughts. read more

Lititz is a charming town and the General Sutter Inn is equally charming. Set in the heart of town, this small historic hotel is worth a look even if you just have a drink in the pub and don't happen to stay in one of the hotel rooms. We stayed two nights in one of the "Rock Lititz Penthouse" suites. The decor was set up for the entertainment industry visitors the hotel hosts on occasion. Our bed was comfortable enough and the complaints we had were that the bright hallway lights stream into the room all night long through the glass transoms over the entry doors and the heating system was very noisy. Both factors made it difficult to sleep. Even so, we enjoyed the amenities of having a small kitchen and lounge down the hall and it was interesting reading through the guest book where the celebrities who stayed there before us had made notes and signed their names. read more

My crab cake sandwich was comprised of a tiny crab cake served on a way-too-large, overly-charred roll. Chips were the highlight of the meal. (if you can find it... good luck) Had to carry all bags down the street to front entrance.Lucky it was not full, front desk said the other one was two blocks away. Then carry everything up steps.(no elevator) Room was very small. (I guarantee your bedroom is bigger)Three outlets in room. One in a small bathroom, two in room. One was full, other had two receptacles available three inches from floor. Had to crawl under desk to plug in charger. Not to mention the extension cords to lamps. Small TV balanced on top of a electrical system. Ended up leaving (losing $180.00) and going to another hotel.Don't waste your money. Not worth it. read more

What a gem in downtown Lititz PA, recently dubbed the coolest town in America. We love the ambiance, the pub and fireplace. The modern Rock Block Penthouse was a surprise and the icing on the cake. Lovely decor. Polite waitstaff. Decent service. We were staying in Lititz for one night and wanted to have a nice classy dinner. Since we always wanted to try the General Sutter Inn for dinner we went there. The chicken soup and Harvest salad were amazing. We both ordered the salmon for dinner which ended up being disappointing since the portion size was inadequate as well as the vegetable and potato that came with it. In addition, the salmon was crusted in salt, something not mentioned in the menu. And, the waiter was wearing a tee shirt, had tattoos and never checked on whether or not we were happy with the dinner. read more

I traveled to Lititz for the first time with my girlfriend to visit her family in Lancaster. We live in Washinton, D.C. (unfortunately!) so we were excited to get out into the country for the weekend. More bed & breakfast than hotel, it was definitely a departure from any chain hotel I've stayed in. Ups: Exceptionally friendly staff Bulls Head Inn has a tremendous beer selection Great location in heart of Lititz Comfy king-sized beds Downs: Rooms probably haven't changed since 1945 No iron or ironing board in room (but are available at front desk) Not all rooms have showers- some only have tubs Hotel is unattended by staff after midnight Aside from the continental breakfast, which was sufficient, we didn't dine at the hotel. We did have a drink at the Bulls Head and the beer selection was impressive. This seemed like the spot for local twentysomethings to gather. Overall, a quaint place to stay and no big complaints. I wish the rooms were updated, but perhaps this lends to the charm? We will stay here again if we're in the area, but not the best place for a romantic getaway. read more

This is usually good food. But never go here during the Lititz Arts Festival in July. Ruben was skimpy, no sauerkraut dry and the sweet potato french fries were cold. I can't even believe the waitress had the gall to serve that food to us. We might be back but not during the Lititz art fest. They obviously didn't plan and have enough staff to handle the crowd. Overall it was a disappointing experience. I had no idea that it was the fire and ice celebration in Lititz and traffic / parking was horrible, in fact the road in front of the restaurant was closed for this event. I'm not holding that against the restaurant but it did start things off in a slightly frustrating manner. When we walked into the establishment it wasn't really clear where exactly we were supposed to go. To the right was the restaurant area and a menu and the specials by the entrance but there was no hostess or anyone there to greet or seat up. I ended up in line by a desk where another couple was chatting it up with an employee. After what seemed like 10 minutes of waiting we finally got to the desk and were told that our table was ready. When seated we were told that our server could be a little while because they were busy but there were several empty tables so I'm not sure what the problem was. Our server finally got to us, my wife got a glass of wine and I asked for the beer list since they have several craft beers. The server left and got the list and my wifes wine and I selected a beer. The server returned with a different beer list and told me the one he had given me was an old one and the beer I selected was not on the list. I selected another beer and eventually I was able to enjoy a beverage with my wife. When we did order, we ordered the gumbo and the soup of the day to start, the appetizer special (which was an avocado with crab with panko crust) and a scotch egg, the steak and ale pie and shepherds pie. the soup and gumbo were tasty and warm bread accompanied the soup. Between the $12 avocado and the $3 scotch egg, the egg won. The avocado had next to no crab, it was only 1/2 an avocado and the flavor was drowned out by the balsamic reduction. The steak & ale and shepherds pie were both bland and both my wife and I both added tons of salt and pepper. We came here because my in-laws got us a gift card, I can't see returning. An $80 bill and the best thing we had was a $3 scotch egg. read more

I was searching for a new place to eat for date night and stumbled upon this place. Never did I imagine I would have one of the best meals of my life (by the way, I am a very picky eater). The setting was clean and crisp - well lit, white table cloths, candles on table. The decorations on the wall made it appear as if one were in someone's home from the 1900's. I ordered the Mozzarella and Heirloom Tomato Ravioli. It was amazing. The pasta was cooked to perfection - delicate but still firm. So disappointing! This review is for General Sutter's. The Bulls Head Pub next door is fantastic and never disappoints. This time, however, we had read about a special Valentine's menu at the General Sutter's and wanted to have a special meal. I called earlier in the day to make 5:00 pm reservations for 2 and was told it would have to be a little earlier at 4:40. Not a problem. We arrived at 4:40 and we were seated at a very large table in an almost empty dining room even though there were only two of us. The tablecloth had salt all over it and a small piece of bread or some other food sitting on the beer menu in the middle of the table. That should have been a sign but we decided to ignore it. As we were seated we were handed the regular menus. The waitress arrived promptly and she did bring us the specials menu. When we asked how the crab was prepared she looked at us strangely and had difficulty explaining it. We ordered drinks and waited a while for them to arrive. Meanwhile there were only two other tables occupied. We placed our order for an appetizer and our entrees. The appetizer was the special fondue and it was tasty. About 30 minutes later, the waitress came by and plunked down a bread basket. She didn't say anything about an ETA for our entrees and we didn't have a chance to ask because she was gone again immediately. After more than a 40 minute wait we finally received our entrees. My husband's steak was nicely prepared but unfortunately the potatoes with my crab entree were well under cooked and the crab was very blah without any seasoning. We never saw the waitress again until she came to ask if we wanted dessert. The restaurant did get busy as the night wore on but at the time we placed our order there were only two other tables occupied. We were never given an explanation for the long wait. Two hours and 20 minutes was a long time for a mediocre meal. There is not doubt that we will continue to go to the Bulls Head Pub where the service and the food is always great but this will probably be the last time we try out the fine dining side of things at the General Sutter Inn. read more

One of the best restaurants Ive been to in Lancaster County! My husband and I went here for our Valentine's Day dinner and we were so impressed with the quality and service. We both had one of the specials for the evening and could not find a thing to complain about -- the crispy salmon was delicious and the short rib was melt in your mouth wonderful. great desserts too. After reading reviews here went out with my husband and had a lovely meal at the General Sutter. Waiter was classy, attentive and kind and made the meal even more peaceful. Everything came out promptly and well prepped and just right. I had crab cakes, with very tasty potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans. Crab cakes were mostly crab and nice dab of sauce with kick on top. Side salad had very fresh well presented ingredients. Husband had very good tomato bisque soup and a chicken leek pie. He said the pie was too soupy after soup to start but he was still a happy eater. Desserts were also high class. Very glad to have spent a bit more $$ for meal here, worth it. There are very FEW good places to eat in Lanc Co...but this is one pleasant place to include in your top notch list. read more

Probably overbooked this Valentines day with the holiday and Lititz's Annual fire night and it showed. Outdoor tables and seated in the banquet room wasn't really the "romantic evening" I had anticipated. Steak was medium rare not medium well as requested. Fish could have been better. Looks better than what it serves! We had dinner at the restaurant at the General Sutter Inn and what a disappointment.! I was led to believe this was an upscale dining experience not another tourist trap. My Asian Salmon on stir fried veggies was overcooked & dry - I had requested only medium rare - and where were the veggies? It was served on a bed of overcooked lomein noodles the whole lot over-smothered with teriyaki & way too salty- not the gourmet dish it was billed to be! In addition the piece of salmon was tiny - maybe a 2 inch square. Not worth the overpriced $22! I should have sent it back! My partner has the chicken pistachio and that was quite good. Our dessert was a miniscule portion of sticky toffee cake with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream,way too small for the $7.00 price tag. Service was good - although our waiter came rushing in out of breath, and had never bothered to read his specials board. What can I say - I wish I could give this place a better review but a restaurant had to be consistent with what it serves to deserve a better rating and not just be an attractive building. However, I would be willing to try their pub food if I ever go there again. read more

Just spent a wonderful Easter Weekend in Lancaster County, an area we frequent often, had dinner on Saturday night at The General Sutter Inn after stopping in for a beer at the Bulls Head next door, the Food was excellent as was the service, Johanna was our server. We returned the next day (Easter Sunday) and enjoyed a wonderful buffet lunch which we took into the bar at The Bulls Head to eat. We will definitely be back to enjoy the food offered on the pub menu. Well done, I give you five stars for friendliness, great food and excellent service. I am a fan! read more

After driving 1+ hrs, A Christmas Carol - bah hum bug indeed. When I reserved for two - dinner and show (Dinner Theater) I expected dinner (nice buffet selection) and a show (actors/actresses/scenes/set/music/action/something nice). What we got greatly disappointed me. Staff was nice... Nowhere in the advertisement did it state "One Man Show", nor did it state limited buffet selection. I love this place...and here's some reasons: The location - General Sutters is close to all the cool shops and the park, so it's fun to run around town before or after a meal. The service - the hostess is awesome and we have had great servers. My husband and I usually go on the "off times" so we can enjoy our meals and spend time chatting with the employees, who we have gotten to know since we're from the area. We feel like regulars, and have gotten desserts on the house before. I told the owners what a great job some of the staff was doing, and wrote me a lovely letter told me how much that meant to them. The food - I had filet mignon here the other day and it was awesome. I don't eat steak very often (maybe like once every 6 months) and this one was done to perfection. The presentation of food is very nice and the price is right. We sometimes end up spending 50$+ plus but we like to try the drinks which can really add up. I'm a wine drinker and I've liked everything I've tried. Like I said, we go on "off times"...so if you want to go right at dinner time, there's a huge wait, and if it's Second friday, that wait can be over an hour. They will offer to call you once a spot is ready, so the service is amazing, but it's a busy place. I think they have plans to expand in the works. read more

Stayed over the labor day weekend. Pros - The room was spacious and clean with pleanty of backstage decor. It is centrally located and the atmosphere is great. Cons - for $175 a night for a single queensized room at an Inn, I would have expected a fairly modest selection of continental breakfast in the communal kitchen including juices, bottled water, boxed cereal, fruits, etc. The selection was minimal at best. read more

This is not your typical old fashion inn as they have expanded to include a really cool bar area with both indoor and outdoor seating-yes people were sitting outside under heat lamps! they have lots of unique beers and ciders on draft and in bottle all for a very reasonable price. This past visit I had a blackberry beer (very subtle blackberry and not too sweet) from a Virginia brewery which was really good. We had an event and reserved the back room which has a small bar. We had mini sandwiches, potato chips (the best I have ever had-Maui Onion seriously amazing!), a veggie tray with ranch dip, and goat cheese and jam crostini (they were a bit stale.) The sandwiches included a roast beef and swiss cheese, ham, and a turkey with bacon on rye bread. They were all fantastic. The service was great and they have a nice side patio we were able to take advantage of. Definitely recommend stopping by for beer and food while you are shopping in downtown Lititz. read more
