Everyone I talk to agrees- we have no idea why this place is still in business. Obviously the location with the deck is amazing people watching/ Weather enjoying. However, the food is beyond subpar, the service is spotty at best (we have gotten better service sitting at the bar than on the deck or inside) and the margaritas are not great and extremely overpriced. After this last time, I don't think we will ever go again unless it changes hands and they shape up a LOT. There are too many amazing places to eat in the Twin Ports to waste your time on this one. Dinner in Duluth Easter weekend with the fam bam... We wanted to mix in up a bit for Easter in 2019. Little Angie's is in a popular place in Canal Park. The location alone I'm sure makes for great business. For starters we had chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty good! The entrees were not so much . Missing flavor and overpriced are my thoughts... I think this may be a fun place for drinks and apps. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. They also have table options for larger parties. Great location-marginal food. Loooong wait. The food is expensive and just OK. Not terrible. Servers were friendly but overwhelmed on the patio. Enchiladas were decent but nothing great. Fajitas were actually not good. They have a funny sour taste like too much lime or even vinegar. They came out cold and we needed to send them back. After we left we spotted places to eat with lake views, better looking food, and better prices. We won't be back to Angie's until the food gets better. read more

So I have put off writing this review for a few reasons. The main one being I was not sure if they [Little Angies] were just not on their game when I had gone there. My main issues are with management & some of the food. So before I go forward I want it to be clear that the wait & support staff were exceptional. Contrary to what management may believe, I personally love to see waitstaff feel comfortable in their workplace, Not constantly working themselves to death. My girlfriend & I felt super comfortable & cared for, but it all started to go down hill when we heard management speaking to waitstaff. Management was going on & on about how plate colors should not match, embarrassing other waitstaff in the process. After that, she continued to complain about a bunch of other things. Now I don't know the whole story but I can say it was such an odd tantrum to throw during service hours. It made me feel gross & my girlfriend, as well as other patrons, did not appreciate it. Now I have worked in the food industry since I was 16 (5 years), I understand that stuff happens, but it was unprofessional & odd to say the least. When it comes to food I am not sure what to say, it is Mexican food from Duluth. It was, in a single word, "meh". I felt like the food was missing flavor & pretty overpriced for the quality that you are getting. But just like any restaurant, they are much more than their bad moments, like I had said, waitstaff were exceptional (when they were able to relax & converse with each-other). The bartender was great at his job & the recommended drinks were exceptional. Little Angies has a huge range of hot sauce & despite my high spice tolerance there were a few that made me tear up (A GOOD THING). I want to try Little Angies again but maybe during the summer when management turns over & the environment is more lively. But again, there are two sides of every coin so take everything I say with a grain of salt. read more

Bleah on the order of an Applebee's. We came for lunch at 3 pm on a Friday. We had a good experience here in 2020 or '21. It's part of the Grandma's Canal Park mini-empire. Something may have changed. This time I had street tacos with dry, dry processed chicken. The grilled zucchini that came with was decent. My wife had a salad that she described as "edible." The value was poor -- overpriced for the quality. The server was nice and the food didn't take long to come out. We will look elsewhere in Canal Park and Duluth next time. If imitation seafood is what you're looking for then this is the place for you. It was gross. The pinto beans were overcooked. The rice was just okay. The mojitos we ordered were not good. We had a great experience here. Given it's excellent location it would be easy for this place to be like so many mediocre tourist traps, but that wasn't our experience. The food and service here were excellent. We were seated outside promptly. The patio location is great- we especially appreciated the distraction bucket which kept the bees away from diners. Our server, Sierra, was great! She was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We tried the tropical tacos on her recommendation and they were perfect. Great size for lunch, tasty and balanced between savory and sweet with a little heat. Margaritas were also delicious. We also observed other tables and servers. The staff here is clearly well trained to provide service. Always asking if anyone need anything further. Additionally, It was very windy this particular day and it would be easy for staff to be frustrated keeping things in place but they never showed it. We would definitely eat here again. read more

Thee worst Mexican food I've had in my life. I eat Mexican food like 2 times a week, and this is garbage compared. First the waitress got my buddys drink order wrong. Then we ordered. My order was wrong. I wasn't going to complain about it but my first bite of the wrong order there was a chicken bone in the bite I took. So I asked for the right order. It took another 20 minutes to get that. So my friends were done eating by the time I got my order. Looked like they threw it together so fast, that everything was cold. My sister and I went for dinner and left very unimpressed, if I could give it a zero I totally would. We both had the seafood enchilada and we're immediately disappointed when we cut into it and found imitation crab. This would not have bothered me as much if that would have been disclosed on the menu that it was imitation. The pinto beans were totally dry and the rice was mushy. We don't come here often, and we only remember why when we see the prices and quality (or lack therof) of the food. To start, there's no complimentary chips and salsa. It's not a big deal, but it's not something I normally see in this area. The salsa is good, but the chips taste like the cheap bagged tortilla chips from the grocery store. And then the entrees. Let's start with my 9 year old: he ordered the kids' cheese quesadilla. It seemed like the tortilla barely touched the griddle, and the cheese was the cheapest American cheese slices. Who puts American cheese in a quesadilla?? So we nicely asked the waitress for chicken tenders, which she was nice about, and they came out quickly. Next, my other kid's entree, a steak enchilada (with wild rice, for some reason?) seemed ok but the rice that came on the side was overcooked and lukewarm; not the greatest. My chicken chimichanga was good, but again, the rice was just off. My husband's steak fajita was decent; just too many onions. We did tell the waitress about my son's quesadilla, but I'm kicking myself now about not telling her or a manager about the rest of our meals. Especially since it was $90 for lunch, before tip! This was our first "dine-in" experience since COVID started. We were really impressed. Because it was a perfectly sunny day, we chose outdoor/patio seating. Social distancing was maintained and all the staff had their masks on fully--meaning their mouths and noses were covered. The only good thing about our visit was the waiter Jake, we've been there before but won't be back. I mentioned it to Jake and he promptly removed it from the table. He asked if I wanted something different but I couldn't eat much after that, I lost my appetite. I thought once he went to management with my issue they would at least comp my husband drink as I just had water, but nope nothing else was offered to make it right. My husband got the street tacos and all three were very small portions, the grilled zucchini was hard and crunchy and barely cooked, and the price tag was definitely high for what we received. One also put a bottle into the ice that is used for drinks! We almost didn't stay for the food after watching all of this. The bag of warehouse style chips will leave your lips wrinkled and calling to your waitress for your next round of neon colored, pseudo flavored margarita. Wow. That may have been my worst restaurant experience in a long while. Disappointed that it happened in Duluth. Our group decided to sit on the patio and waited an obnoxiously long time for a server to approach. When I approached the hostess stand to inquire about menus I was told "Well this is self serve and it can take awhile for a server to be with you." Funny since there were 4 servers standing not 10 feet from us just standing around and talking. Actually one of them turned out to be whom was assigned to us. No apology for the wait time. OK so to be fair, I did not eat here. I just saw the lovely bright festive chairs out on the patio, and I had some time to kill, so a nice deckside margarita sounded fairly appealing. So I can only judge on my experience here stopping in for a quick drink. But I have to say - not that impressed. He looked at me incredulously, like I clearly did not understand that it was overcast and looked like it might rain. But hey, all of the tables had umbrellas. And a little rain wasn't going to hurt. Begrudgingly, he seated me at one of the patio tables. My waitress came by and was friendly enough. I ordered the blood orange margarita. She asked me if I wanted it blended or on the rocks. I said blended. And then she felt compelled to tell me that it would separate a little if I had it blended. I said that was fine (I have had a blended margarita before after all, that's pretty much how it works). Whatever. I am pretty sure she rang my drink in wrong and I wound up with the orange raspberry margarita (which was right below the blood orange on the menu). It was OK. I drank it anyway. It was tasty. When she brought my drink, she asked if I wanted some chips and salsa. "It's only 99 cents." Personally I think it should be free, but I said OK and the chips and salsa were good. Then of course it started raining. The staff decided to lock down the porch. They took all the umbrellas off the tables other than ours. They chained up all the chairs and tables. I was perfectly happy and dry under my umbrella. But it was really clear they were annoyed that I insisted on sitting outside still, even though it wasn't heavy rain. Of course the rain only lasted about 15 minutes, after which the sun came out. As we were wrapping up, there were people coming up wanting to sit on the patio. Shutting down the patio for 20 minutes of rain in the middle of a summer evening seemed really short-sighted to me. I did not stick around to see if they wound up reopening the deck. But it just seemed really weird and not super customer friendly. I really got the impression that my preference to sit out on the deck was bothering the staff considerably and they could not wait for us to leave.
