We sat outside this time so we could get seated faster, and I think I would have enjoyed that more if it wasn't on a super busy road with noisy trucks, and the sun beating down bright at noon. We were there for an hour (they were busy) and it took so long to get my drink they ended up comping it. I didn't get a shot of our sandwiches but my cubano on Gluten-free bread was pretty good. Restaurant is country-cozy right on Hwy 101 and we've stopped several times as we pass through. Stopped by on a Tuesday morning around 10:30. It was pretty busy, but only had to wait about 10 minutes or so for a table. The food was excellent. The beignets are a must have. Very soft and flavorful. Also had the spinach and ham eggs Benedict and thin pancakes. The service was very good and friendly My only complaint is that the ATM only dispenses a maximum of $40. They only take cash so if you come with a large group bring cash with you. read more

When you need a solid breakfast, Little Brown Hen Cafe is the place for you. This was exactly what we needed when we stepped into this cafe. Our meal was delicious. A hearty breakfast for our day ahead. I had two eggs, yummy bacon and hashbrowns. Funny enough I was served only one slice of toast and when I asked why, the waitress said, most people only eat the one. When I asked for another, she happily gave me another- no extra charge. Odd experience. Walking up to the restaurant, in visual area of someone who I assumed to be the hostess as they were taking the name of someone in front of us, then they turned and walked inside as we got up to being behind this other guest for signup, no eye contact, greeting, anything. I Go inside and stand for several minutes. Not one single person came up to inquire about my presence. The person i assumed to be the hostess, now busied herself with refilling beverages and cleaning tables. I was the only person standing in the doorway. I finally motioned to a server who came over, so I asked if they were ending service? My only explanation for why I was being ignored. She said no, apologized and promised to be right back. Someone else did return- took my name and that we had 2 in our party. We ended up waiting a half hour to get seated. In the meantime, we noticed several parties who departed, and tables sitting empty and dirty. We finally get seated. Eventually drink orders get taken. Those come after a bit, but seemed longer than necessary for drinks. We place our orders and that is where the real waiting began. It was absurd how long we waited. At one point we looked around, no one in our half of the divided dining area, had food. And we had been there the longest, and had been waiting a long time. It was getting to the point of serious personality changes if some of us didn't get food. But here is a weird catch/setting: there are several signs posted throughout the 'decor' about being kind, nice, or grateful. The door even says something about happy/smiling faces only. A sign in the front window says to be nice to the servers, and if you think you can do a better job, please apply. I mentioned to my spouse that I felt like i was being silently harassed into being nice. Maybe if the overall service was better, staff wouldn't get harassed? By the time we left, from walk up to leaving we were there over 2 hours. Ridiculous- and it totally changed our agenda for the day. Maybe they were short staffed, but there were staff people everywhere. At one point in our wait, it looked like a chef was standing in the dining area chatting with a server. Omg before this day I had never had beignets. Holy crap. They were so good, you absolutely must order them if you're there. I also recommend the thin pancakes, tasted awesome. As a handicapped person, I was dismayed to see that they have removed the sign from the required handicapped parking so they can put a table in it. Had a heck of a time parking where I could get out, then get to the door to find they don't take credit cards. But do have ATM with a fee so they can rip off the tourists. No thanks. I struggled my way back to the car and am writing the city council and referring them to the state law, regarding handicapped access. Such a lovely spot with amazing food and even better people. We stopped by The Little Brown Hen Cafe and had a wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, the kind of service that makes you feel at home. I ordered the avocado toast which was absolutely delicious, and my kids got the waffles, they loved them so much we had to order more. Just a heads-up, they don't accept debit or credit cards, but there's an ATM inside so it's easy to manage. Small cafe in a small town that packs a huge punch in their offering and quality. FOOD We ordered crabs omelette and clam chowder. The omelette was made to perfection. The crab's saltiness balanced wonderfully with the rest of the dish. I'm glad that they didn't add more salt to the omelette. The clam chowder was a bit on the salty side. The chowder itself is fresh and tasty, but it was too salty for my liking. The cherry on top is definitely their beignets. It was fresh and fluffy. The powdered sugar was an excellent addition to the beignets it self. It was not too sweet at all! Highly recommend. SERVICE The service itself is pretty decent for a small town restaurant. They got a few servers running the floor but seems like their commendation amongst themselves can be improved. We got multiple servers asking our orders and give us waters. So this place started with five stars. I'm taking one away simply because they do not accept any form of electronic payment. BE PREPARED, glad I keep that Franklin tucked into my wallet because I didn't happen to have an ATM card with me either. So on with the review, this place is amazing! I've traveled most all of my adult life and eaten just about everything, everywhere. My goto for greasy spoons is either the local flavor Benedict or Corn Beef & Hash. I went with the CBH and it might have been the best I've ever had. Servers are polite and attentive and ambiance is very upbeat. Parking is a challenge but only because this place is in high demand. It's regularly busy, but if you're up and there by 830-9 you should be able to get a table or be next in line...the buzz is REAL. Weekdays are easier but still busy. We have an annual camping trip to Honeyman State Park for the last near decade - and one of of our planned breakfasts - is The Little Brown Hen. The greet promptly - but doing so while working so, have a bit of patience....its worth it. You'll be seated and have a drink order quickly after. All their food is made to order and from scratch - so, again, have a bit of patience. We usually get various French toasts - all are good - an omelette or skillet of sorts - also all good - and pancakes. Our little don't eat much but us parents and eldest sibling take care of that - because of the quality of food, I eat enough to last til dinner haha. Atmosphere is a little diner - not clunky or dingy but bright and cozy - it's a great place for families and couples. This is a big part - CASH ONLY - they have an ATM for a fee. So, swing by the bank before you go! They have beignets that are HAND MADE and oh so tasty. I also like how they have different jellies right on the table like ketchup and mustard. The food really didn't agree with my husband, and he ended up vomiting after we left. We always finish all of our food because we don't believe in wasting, but we didn't even eat half of our plates. Biscuits would not be recognizable south of the Mason-Dixon Line (more cakey than flaky) but everyone was nice, portions are massive, and the sausage gravy that comes on the biscuits is excellent. So is the thick cut bacon. read more

I admit I was concerned when we were told about the wait, but it was worth every bit! Hubby had the "everything" breakfast which looked great. He always adds a pancake to share and theirs was so light and fluffy it should be illegal! It's hard to find a meatless option for breakfast, but this place had on the menu exactly what I wanted (eggs, shredded has browns and whole wheat toast)!
