We dropped off my brother's car for some collision with a deer work at Graham's and they were close and we were hungry. I didn't get a chance to peruse the menu in detail so I followed hubby's order by also getting the meatball sub with fries. Y'all, those meatballs were so chock full of flavor, I could have had just those and been 5 star happy. We both loved the toasted bread and the battered fries. I thought at first there wouldn't be enough fries but after my first meatball sub bite, the fries were actually after thoughts. I ate as many of the fries as I could and brought the rest home for our dogs. As for my delectable, flavorful meatball sub, I didn't even get a 1/4 of the way of my half size sub. Sometimes you can get too much marinara/tomato sauce that it drowns out everything else. That was not the case here. There was just enough to coat the meatballs and remind you that homemade always tastes better than jar sauce. They do a bang up take out service. We arrived here around 330 & while the cook time wait seemed long, it was worth it. There were alot of orders ahead of us and with every take out order, my desire for my sub grew with each, unique and different smell. If you're in Moyock and hungry, don't neglect your taste buds and get yourself a sub. Their pizzas are great too!

Detailed & Heartfelt (great for Facebook or longer posts)…read more AJ Gator's is a true diamond in the rough--a family-oriented sports bar with a welcoming and diverse atmosphere. I always sit at the bar because the bartenders here are second to none. They multitask effortlessly, meet customer needs directly, and make sure everyone stays safe while having a good time. Special recognition goes to Katie, who always makes me feel valued. She and Diana check in on me, make sure I've eaten, and even know when to cut someone off--because they care more about your safety than your tab. That's customer service at its finest. The team behind the dream is incredible. Shelly, the manager, runs a tight-knit group of trusted bartenders--Katie, Diana, and Sarah--who keep everything flowing smoothly. Their teamwork creates an environment where veterans, teachers, blue-collar workers, and white-collar professionals can all come together. No matter our differences, AJ Gator's reminds us that we all share the same community spirit. Katie deserves special recognition for her professionalism, kindness, and genuine heart. She is one of the main reasons AJ Gator's feels like home, and why I'll keep coming back.

Unfortunately there was nothing spectacular about this AJ Gators, it's a pretty standard carbon copy. I did notice that it one seemed to be 2 waitresses. We ordered a bunch of apps and a couple entrees. The main thing that raised an eyebrow for me was sitting so close to the drink station, tennis balls at the bottom of all the chairs, margaritas served in normal glasses, and the complete lack of flavor and over frying of the wings. I couldn't eat them and sent them back. The waitress didn't seem too happy about it, she didn't understand initially what my issue was until I flat out said "they just don't taste good at all". I don't think m I would find myself coming back to this location.

My dad also enjoyed his fried fish meal (he subbed the "chips" for a salad). I'm sure for a sports bar scene, it's a great place in a small town to enjoy a game and eat a decent meal. The menu includes a large variety from made-to-order pizza, to burgers, salads, and appetizers galore. My biggest issue from my last visit was with the staff. Our server was overly friendly and flirtatious to my dad in a way that made us both uncomfortable. I could add some comments about what she was wearing but I don't know how to say it kindly or appropriately. I also could not stand having to see the busser mindlessly wipe a table in the same spot for nearly five minutes as he snapchatted and laughed with someone in the parking lot through the window. I know he was snapchatting because he was doing this at the table two away from ours, so his phone was completely visible. He came back about 15 minutes later and did this same routine, at the same table which no one had sat at since. To me, it is disturbing to see the person who is supposed to be cleaning the tables you are eating on, paying absolutely no attention whatsoever to the cleanliness. He literally wiped back and forth in the same spot on the table as he communicated with some person outside of the window and took videos. If you are going to goof off at work like that, at least do it away from the customers. Even though my food was great, I honestly have no desire to return.

Trust the over 250 solid reviews on here praising this place and ignore the 10 disgruntled folks…read morewho clearly suffer from Karen/kevin syndrome. This is THE spot for locals in the Portsmouth area. It's no surprise you see reviews from patrons who drive from all over the Hampton Roads area to visit this gem! Service is so friendly and you can tell it is a TEAM! I sat at the bar so got to watch the open kitchen in action. Their system is down pat and you can tell everyone enjoys working with each other. Each dish I watched from prep to service was handled with meticulous care. PRIDE IN WORK AT ITS FINEST! Everyone works to serve you as a team as well, no worry about "bothering" another member of the staff for something, everyone wants you to enjoy your meal. I can tell there are a lot of local regulars as the staff was engaged on a level you only see when your clientele is consistent and have a vested interest in the success of the business. I've been to 16 countries and travelled all over the states, this is truly one of the most friendly establishments I've had the pleasure of being hosted at. On to the food! I see a few people complain about the small menu, that is the SMARTEST thing a business can do. Focus on what you're good at and demolish the competition. High Street Pizza and Pour delivers on this. My eyes were bigger than my stomach so I ordered the meatballs, the special for their pizza pie of the night (a pork belly, red onion, jalapeño, bbq drizzle dream boat of a pie), a tiramisu and two cocktails. The food in pictures looked smaller than in person... omg I ordered for about 4-5 people! But everyone was soooo good. Meatballs were tender with a fantastic red sauce. Pizza had a crispy buttery crust and the pork belly was rendered perfectly. Tiramisu was fantastic (not sure if that's an in house make or pre done, but it was on point), and the cocktails were perfectly poured with just the right amount of liquor. I left with probably two meals worth of takeout the portions were so large and I can't wait until I'm hungry again. I'm new to the neighborhood and as everyone knows, you need to find your fav local spot to frequent. I'm proud to report, High Street Pizza and Pour House has just taken that spot!

It's my own fault. Being a vegan in a world where eateries are not always vegan friendly, I have to…read moredo a lot of research before I even go to a restaurant. And I didn't do enough research about High Street Pizza, I guess. I always check the menu before I even leave the house when going out to eat. I look for vegan friendly items, and sometimes I call to confirm. The exception is PIZZA. Whenever my not-vegan husband and I decide on pizza, I already know I can customize any pizza with veggies instead of meat and cheese. It was date night Thursday, and High Street Pizza had awesome reviews. I did the "vegan thing" and checked the menu first. I found a lot of vegetable toppings, so I knew I could craft a pizza to my liking. We drove from Va Beach to Portsmouth for dinner. I learned that I cannot craft a pizza with no meat and cheese because High Street Pizza will not make a pizza without cheese. I had no idea you can't just take cheese off of pizza. I do it all the time at other pizza places, but the pizza here must be constructed with cheese. I was told I could get vegan cheese, but I didn't want that. Option 2-order a salad. I opted for the Greek Salad, hold the feta. And since the menu said it came with a red wine vinaigrette dressing, I could eat that instead. After placing our orders, the waitress returned and informed me the red wine vinaigrette was made with mayonnaise at High Street Pizza. The very name of the dressing is a list of the ingredients: Red wine Vinegar How does MAYONNAISE get in there? I even Googled it to make sure I wasn't getting it confused: extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, mustard, oregano, and salt Of course, the dressing can be altered to be "creamy". And yes, there is a CREAMY red wine vinaigrette. But that's not what the menu said. High Street Pizza listed the dressing as just "red wine vinaigrette." I didn't eat anything that evening, but my husband loved every morsel of his sausage and mushroom pie, however. He even said it was one of the best pizzas he ever had! In their defense, High Street Pizza doesn't tout themselves as a vegan friendly restaurant. I am not disappointed about the pizza because my choice not to eat vegan cheese is my preference. They tried to offer an alternative, I chose not to opt for the cheese alternative. Consider listing your salad dressing as "creamy red wine vinaigrette" though. It makes a huge difference leaving the word out.
