Still rolling with the good times (and the good pies). After coming back from Lucky Charlie, I was referred to this Roman style pizzeria located in the West Village, Little Charli. The interior is small and cozy, but there is nothing small and cozy about their pizza, which is absolutely dynamic. When my server told me I could mix and match pizza, I was sold on getting a half red pie and a half white pie. As I knew what I would be getting with a classic, I decided to live on the edge and get a Diablo. Of course, with the spicy red, I got it accompanied by the Snow White, a simple white pie with some garlic. I overheard later that the meatballs are something else to get here, but I felt pizza is king here, so pay its respects before moving down to its royal subjects. The pizza comes out quick (Roman pizza cooks fast), and it looks beautiful. The taste of it all is even better. Pairing these up together created a harmonious flavor of garlic and light acid, with a touch of sweetness from the hot honey dripping off the soppresata. It also helps the pies are light and airy. I told my server I could polish this off in one go, and much to his amazement, I did so. It did not even take me much effort either. Should I be proud of that? As I heard the dessert pizza is a must, I had to order the Nutella pizza. This is delicious too, but after two slices, I hit a wall. It must have been the marshmallows. Nutella does not do that. I did feel they went a bit overboard on the sea salt. It almost dominated the pie when it definitely should not. It was fun to hear 1950's and 1960's Motown soul playing as I was eating. My server was even singing along as I was eating (I was tempted to do the same, but refrained (haha! - musical pun)). Just to add another solid note (okay, I will stop) to an already solid experience. We have been using the inkind app to explore new restaurants. Little Charli had a promo where you spend $75 and get $25 off you bill, so we made reservations for 6 PM On a Saturday night. Me and my friends got here right when it opened and right away the service was top notch. Our waitress was one of the nicest people ive ever encountered and explained the menu and also let us go back to look at the wood burning oven, which was beautiful. The restaurant itself was really nice. There were candles and flowers on every table. Even though the restaurant wasn't that big it felt really homey and cozy. The pizza itself was great. I loved the unique shape of it amd the wood burning oven did make a difference. We also got sent meatballs on the house which was probably the best meatballs I have ever had in my life. my friends and I came here on a after going finding out the original pizza spot that we wanted to go to was booked out for the next few hours. we had a party of six, but they were able to accommodate us which was nice of the host, considering the space was not the biggest. The menus are already provided on the table and they also have a secret spicy rigatoni pasta that was not too bad. When we walked in they had a pizza making class going on-it looked fun and the perfect ice-breaker for the young couples doing it if they were on first dates. Now on to the food. We started with a delicious order of meatballs. My wife called them "grandma approved"-they were light and fluffy with the slightest hint of fennel. The pizza-they had many choices-we went with the hot honey sausage and knew we picked a winner. It was rectangular and had great sauce and little mounds of spicy sausage. Came for a guy's hangout. Saw that it had great reviews so booked a resy. TBH, was a little nervous when I showed up and saw that it was completely empty (they had just opened). Scored a seat in the front by the windows - thankfully it was a great day to be al fresco. So their menu is basically pizza. It's Roman style which I think means that it's a long oval instead of round. Otherwise largely similar to many other fancy oven pizza places in the city. Service was just ok given that it was pretty empty while we were there (passing by later that evening, it was definitely more full). We got the Margherita and Diablo (which is probably their most ordered item). For our party of 4 guys - just about enough. Otherwise the space is long and narrow but had nice Italian pizzaiola vibes. They have a thief in their midst! My daughter had a bill for $32 but was charged $52 on her card. She left a CASH tip for $20 (she's very generous!) The pizzas are held up on the table by tomato cans for god sakes - made me feel so cozy & comfortable. Did a prix fixe of: -Antipasto salad (not traditional but very yummy) -Cheese calzone (such good crust and crunch) Family style of pizzas: -Margherita (had a succulent Buffalo mozz on it) -Snow White (the roasted garlic was nice & sweet) -Diablo Pie (sucker for sopressata with hot honey) Dessert pie came with candles and it was the most wonderful Nutella and marshmallows. Went here for my birthday dinner after hearing a lot of good reviews and excitement. It was good but honestly I do have to say I was slightly disappointed. I was really excited walking in and the restaurant had a very cute quaint vibe. And the service was quick and friendly. The smaller menu was also intriguing to me. We started with the salad, which you should definitely skip, not good. Then the rigatoni, which you could also skip, it was very Al dente and slightly cold, lacking much flavor and or anything special. They were patient, accommodating, double-checking everything, and somehow still chill about it even though the place was packed. And let me tell you... I've had a LOT of grilled cheese and tomato soup in my life. Like... an unreasonable amount. But this? Hands down the best grilled cheese + tomato soup combo I've ever had. Not even close. Each one on its own? I could demolish it. Together? It's like... comfort food soulmates. Like they were meant to meet. The ambiance is solid. If you sit in the back, some of the food setup isn't ideal, but overall, it is good. We were lucky to get the area between the bar and the front. Perfect. The drinks were very good. Not super strong, but to be fair... it'd been a long-ass Friday night. I'm not mad about it. The flavor is there. Anything to wake you up. Out of the grilled cheese, grilled chicken sandwich, and burger... every last one of us went completely silent. Like... peace while we ate it like our last meal on earth. They were always checking in with us even though it was slammed in there. It's always slammed, so if you're a walk-in, be ready to wait. That's just the way it is. Overall? We got the Margherita and the Diablo and two glasses of wine split amongst 3 people and had leftovers Items I would order again: * Margherita - fresh ingredients, slightly burned crust, but a plain and simple classic. The flavor was complex but almost a little overwhelming, Overall it was a nice contrast to the classic Margherita.
