Though, an extra scoop is pricey, so I recommend just buying a pint of ice cream yourself at any grocery store to add to your waffle. Waffle and ice cream is still good to eat even 10 minutes after serving! My favorite dish at Little Gem's is Jewel-Worthy! It includes the right amount of nutella that enhances the taste and the strawberries add a fresh element. I think it is a bit on the sweet side, and the texture of the waffle is great. I recommend that you order ahead through Snackpass as the wait can be long most of the time, especially late at night when many people are looking for a late-night snack. Walking past the store it's hard to resist getting at least 1 waffle because of the sweet smell. There aren't that many establishments that sell Belgian waffles so it makes this place special! With COVID, you can only order online or on the tablet in front of the store. I got 4 mini waffles to try ($12 for 4 or $3.50 each). You can customize the flavor of each mini waffle on the tablet but they are mostly glazes or sugar options, you can't add toppings. The flavors I ended up choosing were chocolate, matcha, powdered sugar, and cinnamon sugar. Really enjoyed all the waffles I got - my favorite had to be the powdered sugar. My friend had the Crown Jewel waffle which consisted of a waffle topped with creme and fresh strawberries, and I had the Waffle of Warriors which is a churro flavored waffle bananas, caramel, and ice cream. Had to be a little bold with mine, so I added strawberries and sliced almonds. Dizzaaaam Zaddy!!!! Can you say sweetness overload? That churro waffle was insanely delicious. Definitely a full on dessert waffle with the ice cream and caramel, but this combination was simply deadly... in a GOOD way of course. The waffles are super soft and chewy here! They're on the smaller side, more like a mini sized waffle but the quality is amazing. I tried a bit of my friend's waffle and hers was more traditional style but still super tasty. These are the best dessert waffles in the Bay Area! Made to order, they are perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. The caramelized sugar on the outside is seriously the best and super addicting. We had the Crown Jewel (strawberries and whipped cream) and the Golden Bear (bananas and whipped cream) and we love them both. Since COVID, they've pivoted to takeout only, but I hope someday they can reopen their seating area. Affordable and just the right size for a snack, you can't miss the delicious scent of freshly made waffles wafting through Berkeley. Ordered these for pick-up during COVID. On the website, you can either set to ASAP or pick a designated time. Otherwise, you can order from a stand at the front of the store. Unfortunately with SIP orders, you can't sit and enjoy a fresh waffle so recommend if you either have a short drive or are willing to eat in your car otherwise the cooled down waffle will not have that initial crunch followed by a soft pull-apart texture and become rather chewy and difficult to bite. To note - they do have a box mini waffles in assorted flavors of your choosing available. I didn't love these waffles as much and the texture of these waffles were not nearly as enticing as the full size signature waffle items. I've now tried the Crown Jewel (strawberries & cream) and the Waffle of Warriors (churroffle + caramel + banana + ice cream) and I'm Gemmin It (Nutella + strawberries). Both Crown Jewel and Waffle of Warriors were super tasty! I also love that they don't scoop the ice cream until you arrive for pick up to ensure it doesn't melt all over your waffle. Strawberries are fresh and sweet, even though its no longer strawberry season. You can never go wrong with a classic strawberries and cream combination. I love that part of the options is to either have the waffles sliced into several pieces, or remain solid. We opted for both options because we wanted to try them both ways. The waffles are slightly sweet with a slight exterior crunch. They are made perfectly and truly lend themselves to a perfect dessert. The strawberries are fresh, and the Nutella was a perfect addition to the cookies and cream ice cream and cascading strawberries. After having waffles in Belgium, I was hesitant to try this place. But for Berkeley standards, I'd say this place was pretty good. We came in on a Saturday evening after having a filling meal at Gypsy's down the street. The little shop was busy and the small seating area was full. Someone even celebrated their birthday and we took part in singing. When you walk in, you order your waffle on an iPad. We waited a short while for our waffle to be prepped. The waffles are not made fresh to order, once they're made they place them under a heating lamp. Since the shop was busy, the waffle we got was still warm. On to the waffle, we ordered a regular waffle with Nutella (FYI, there's a free topping with check-in but we forgot to add it). The waffle itself is pretty sweet - might have some syrup or sugar in the batter before they bake it. So adding nutella on top was like a sugar overload.
