This place is the best! Listen -- it's a tiny shack, pretty much.. No air conditioning, a few tables and a bar, open windows. Prepare to be a little sticky if it's the middle of summer! I love the ultra casual environment and casual service. Our waiter was super chill and goofy and you could tell he enjoys his job and is a big fan of Margie's menu. He highly recommended pretty much everything, especially their award winning New England clam chowder. It's not gluten free but my boyfriend sang its praises -- a well deserved first place! I was able to enjoy their (also award winning) minorcan seafood chowder, which was full of flavor and served extra hot. It was a little weird to eat hot soup in late August in Florida in a tiny restaurant with no air, but the food is so good! We happened to be there during happy hour as well, so cold drinks were definitely in our hands. The menu has a ton of stuff on it.. Nachos, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, seafood. Stopped in for a quick breakfast only to discover that the Brunch Menu ends at 11 on Friday. I proceeded to look over the lunch menu not too impressed. The prices were to high for a beach side diner. I ordered coffee and a water while I waited for my friend. The diner began to fill up around 12p mixed crowd beach goers and retired crowd. Not impressed with the customer service, my server checked in on me only once and I had to flag down another server to inquire about the Poke Bowl Special. Matt? was incredibly helpful. Don't blink! You may just miss the best food in town! FA stands for First Access - the first one off of A1A where we stayed in mid-October. You can't park behind the small cafe as it is nestled in a neighborhood and your car will be towed. Again - Floridians, specific to St Augustine - rock us tourists. The kid who served us was fabulous. Got everything down perfectly. Refilled our beverages as needed. Didn't forget our tobasco sauce for our breakfast (HUGE POINTS HERE). He was awesome. It's a local joint and one of the best we visited. Anywhere we went on this trip rocked. FA Cafe - just do it you'll be impressed. Unfortunately for us, they no longer have the lobster burrito on the menu (when I called to place my to go order, Cindy said they had recently changed the menu). I had looked at their menu online the night before but hadn't saved it, so wasn't sure what my second choice was--and their website was down, so...they still had the fish tacos, so we just ordered the mild and blackened versions. Luckily the place we were staying was within very close walking distance, so hubby trotted on over to pick it up (and said it was standing room only). And boy, Cindy wasn't kidding when she said the blackened version was spicy. It was tasty, but definitely had a kick! I actually liked the blackened fish with the mild sauce of the other version. Overall they were good but not the best we've ever had. And it was also a little expensive--$8 for two tacos. But this is definitely a place that deserves some attention. read more

Went here for lunch one day after going to the beach and the service was very good. Beer was nice and traditional Filipino dishes hit the spot. Went back with my wife for dinner on a Tuesday night and the beer I wanted was no longer available took almost 30 minutes just to get a drink And the crowd there likes to stand outside the restaurant and smoke cigarettes constantly. So if you're sitting outside, enjoying the beach, you're just breathing, cigarette smoke the whole time from all the drunk old man who like to smoke cigarettes right outside the door not only that, but they want to come over and engage in conversation when they can barely stand up, it's just annoying and rude. Most restaurants have laws where you cannot smoke within a certain amount of feet of the restaurant. I wouldn't expect the employees here to force this as there is only one cook and one waitress who is also the bartender, and the place was very busy. I was excited to go back, but very disappointed in the lack of service and crowd who apparently thinks they own the place just because they go there and get drunk every day and nothing wrong with getting drunk but you don't get to go around to every table and start up random conversations with people just cause you're lonely read more

Everything was cooked well and coffee was good too. One star off for the overcooked home fries. My dining partner wasn't thrilled with home fries, but I kinda like them crispy. This is the same as lil margies FA cafe listed on here. Friendly service and good food. The prices are great and you can get a full breakfast under $10. I love the breakfast. The potatoes, grits, eggs, toast, eggs Benedict, orange juice, and bacon are all solid choices. The bacon is always cooked perfect and so are the breakfast potatoes ( I get them crispy). It is right across the beach and not a ton of parking but you can usually find a spot. Don't expect fancy. It's a wonderful small beach town feel. This place is so good and has great hospitality! My friend and I entered the business during Closing hours. We were going to leave but, the nice lady insisted on serving us. Well, I wound up leaving before I ate so this review is about other stuff. My sons and I sat down around noon. Everyone raves about the breakfast. I explained that we couldn't get in several times. No accommodation, breakfast stops at 11. Ok. We ordered our drinks first. My son's lemonade glass was dirty. I showed the server. She said it was "stained from tea's. My son was able to scrape it off with his straw. We had already ordered food. Two of the meals were burritos which was a major section of their menu. After waiting ten minutes, as I showed the server the dirty glass, she informed me that they were just starting to make rice for the burrito. I asked how long, she said ten minutes. I asked what that meant to me, she started encouraging me to change my order. I offered to pay for the drink we had, she said no. That's why I gave two stars. Otherwise it would have been 1. Other items of note, there's no AC at all and the place isn't the cleanest. I will NOT be back read more

We pulled off the highway to check out St. Augustine and the beach while on a road trip. We thought we'd have lunch and then just take the long way back to the highway. The first place we picked was very close to this place but had crowds waiting outside. We didn't have that much time. So we checked the reviews for Margie's and stepped inside. Honestly we all wish we'd waited and just gone to Mellow Mushroom, which we saw on the way out.... The food was barely warm, small, and didn't taste that great. I ordered a fish sandwich which provided what seemed to be a selection from a box of frozen fish sticks, slapped on a thick, bready bun. The fries are not cut fresh - more frozen box fries is what it tasted like to me. For $15. Skip this place and just dig deeper in your freezer - you'll come out ahead. We were very confused given all the positive reviews...our 2 stars is being generous. read more

Locals only. That's the vibe this little shack put forth and they do it well. Especially in this Gator-land, where Tebow is beloved, Meyer is venerated and Spurrier is still referred to in hushed tones. As a Gator, I appreciate that. (And for those who doubt my Gator cred, I actually remember when we celebrated becoming bowl eligible back in '89 only to watch Washington trounce us in the...Freedom Bowl? Seriously? The Freedom Bowl? Oh, such were the Bad Old Days.) So yes, the Gator banner and associated gear was well-received by yours truly. Of course my friend pointed out that the owner's wife's non-reaction to my Burrito Brothers shirt indicated that she most likely never spent any time in Gainesville. "Either that," I said in her defense, "or people show up wearing a Burrito Brothers shirt every other day. It's not like we're THAT far away from Gainesville." Anyway, 'twas lunch time and my friend called ahead to see if FA's fish tacos were served on corn, rather than flour tortillas. My wife's gluten allergy requires us to scout ahead. I coached my friend to ask if they have corn tortillas for the tacos. The male voice on the other end said, "Yes, we've got corn tortillas." Nearby competitor Beachcombers indicated they did not. Unfortunately when we arrived for lunch, we were told different. Corn tortillas are only available for nachos, not the tacos. This irked me, though knowing my friend's tendency toward selective hearing, I can't 100% say if he was lied to or if he went Marlee Matlin on the phone. That bet is kind of a push. I'll try not to knock FA based on this, but it didn't start me off in a good mood since we could have continued calling around for more gluten-free fare. Took a while for us to be met, but it was a nice balmy Florida day and we were in no rush. I ordered the blackened fish tacos, a half pound of rock crab claws while my wife had black bean soup and a grilled shrimp skewer. My friend ordered a fish sandwich. Drinks were distributed first. Sigh. Canned soda. Another pet peeve of mine. I believe it's my birthright as an American to get free refills from a fountain dispenser, even if I'm forced to drink, sigh again, Pepsi products (which is what they had.) And my wife's coffee? An abomination. Seriously, coffee shouldn't be beige until AFTER you put milk and/or cream into it. I've had earl grey tea stronger than that coffee. Stephen Hawking is stronger than that coffee. My canned Diet Pepsi was DEFINITELY stronger than that coffee. And now, I had to deal with a tired, coffee-less wife. Anyway, the food was fine. I shouldn't have ordered the chipotle sauce for my tacos since the chipotle overwhelmed any other flavor. The rock crab claws were good as was the accompanying sauce. My wife and my friend enjoyed their meals, however. Now if it were up to me, I'd rate FA no greater than 2.5 stars, rounding down to 2. My tacos, while "fine," really weren't all the great. Buuuuuuut, the others in my party insisted that 1) they enjoyed their meals and 2) I'm being too hard on FA. Especially being fellow Gator fans. In deference to my wife and my friend, I'll grant FA 3 stars. read more

OK, so I went back today for lunch, after two years of dreaming about the shrimp. What. A. Disappointment. The place changed hands this year, which should have been my cue to run, but I figured, hey, give it a shot again... the new owner told us she'd cooked breakfasts there for a while before buying the business, so it seemed like a good bet. The shrimp tacos, although we requested sauce on the side and the owner seemed to understand that, showed up with everything on the side BUT the sauce, which had a mayo base and was, in short, disgusting. The menu advertises lemon and soy, which this was not. Instead of plump shrimp, each of two tacos had three salad shrimp on them. The owner - who was also our server - never checked back to ask how the food tasted or if everything was prepared properly (uh, gross, and no), at which point we would have told her we wanted something else. Not sure what she was doing - this place is small, and yet she couldn't make eye contact with us once in the ten minutes it took us to try and eat the tacos. We tipped 10%, which is horrible for us, and we will not be back, at least until the ownership changes. That should be soon, judging by the service and food we received today. I'm so disappointed, because this was a great place and I hate to give a bad review. I know it's hard to run a restaurant, but not checking back or asking us how things were when we approached her to pay shows a marked lack of concern for your customer, so I feel both are warranted. By the way, the pictures posted of the menu as of 9-24-13 are inaccurate. I've noted as such but don't know how long it will take Yelp to update. read more

Went to eat breakfast there with my family. First thing I ordered was a mimosa that wasn't good at all. Bad champagne and watered down bad orange juice. Next we placed our order and we waited, just the 3 of us. And we waited. Waited and watched as people who arrived after us got their food before us. We asked if our food was coming soon and the waiter said he would check so we waited. Another gentlemen came out and said that our order got misplaced and he was going to take our order again.
