The table was supposed to be cleaned but was still dirty and had food bits. I had to clean the table myself. I ordered Korean Fried chicken bowl and Sprite. The food came and it was served on a plastic plate that you usually see in a cheap Chinese restaurant. The chicken was borderline edible and taste not even close to be called Korean Fries Chicken, cultural appropriation right there. My Sprite didn't come for a long time and I had to remind a server. When it was served my plate was already half way done. The servers are not very kind. My Sprite was taken away even before I was done with it and she didn't even ask. Some other customers are complaining about their food and one guy was arguing if the server was yelling at him. I know this is an airport restaurant and my bar was low. I get that airport food/drink is expensive (and it appears that all the major food venues are jointly run, because of the IPad ordering system) but $11.00 for a 12oz bud light is blatant theft. I ordered an Asahi on tap. Apparently they were out so the server brought me "a comparable option" which was a Sapporo. I specifically ordered an Asahi because I'm not a fan of Sapporo. The overhaul at Newark Airport's Terminal C last year gave airport dining some hope, with the addition of over 50 new eateries, decked with iPads at every seat. Dale Talde, former Top Chef competitor and now restauranteur, was tapped for a few of the eateries, including Little Purse Dumpling, an Asian fusion eatery. Against my better judgment (airport = price markup while both good and great dumplings can be had for fantastic prices in NYC), I gave it a try. Based on two items, I was not to be pleasantly surprised. Wontons are not traditionally made with chicken, as is their only wonton option, but that does not preclude a good version. But they arrive inexplicably flat in shape, which then explains the nearly non-existent filling, whatever that can be found being dry and flavorless, with the skin thick and undercooked at the multiple folds. I couldn't finish it; truly that bad. The mango spring rolls, in comparison, are edible, but bland in flavor (probably a nod to appealing to a wider audience) and paltry in portion (probably a bow to setting). If it's Dale Talde you want, you'll have better luck with the food at his other Newark eatery, Caps Beer Garden. Little Purse is best avoided. read more

This is one of those places that looks intriguing from the outside. Airport food is notoriously bad, so when you see a restaurant serving Asian food that looks well put together, you have hope. Unfortunately for little purse dumpling, it followed the usual airport standard of disappointment. Like most restaurants in this terminal, all ordering is done via IPAD. Everything from drinks, food and tip are just a button click. It's actually convenient given you may be in a rush for a flight, so I don't mind it at all. The food was out in decent time and the process from start to finish was seamless. In terms of the food, I ordered some shrimp pad Thai. I ended up taking 3-4 bites and then throwing it in the garbage. By far the worst version of this dish I've ever had. It was incredibly oily and completely bland. It looked more like noodles in a broth rather than pad Thai. I was so caught off guard, I almost asked the server if they brought me the wrong dish. This is very unfortunate as you would think this place would go above and beyond to stand out from other restaurants, but I guess they are depending more on traffic than reputation. The spring roll was okay, but the vermicelli wasn't cooked right and it was poorly wrapped. They had a good selection of teas so wouldn't mind getting that again. I appreciate their dedication to social distancing. They have blocked out most of the seating in the establishment. However for the price. Not entirely worth it based off my meal experience. It all tasted fine and good, but the pot stickers fell apart when picked up, the ramen did not have any spice as it claimed. outside of that was still really good. My main problem was the drink. You order on the ipad and the server drops off your food, that is the extent of their duties. My husband asked for soy sauce the waitress said sure then literally left the restaurant. We just eventually got up and got it ourselves. The ambiance is nice and it is a good place to hang out for a few while waiting for your flight. I wouldn't make a big investment in this place though or have high hopes for what you are going to order. Avoid this spot. I have maybe 10 reviews in 10 years but this place was so bad it was worth warning future customers. The food was alright, satisfies any Asian food cravings you have. But the fact that you pay and tip before they bring the food means there is zero motivation for customer service. I constantly overheard other tables trying to correct the order once it was brought to the table. They have zero organization back there if they're messing up orders left and right. We ordered two dumpling dishes, back to back, using the QR code on the table. Our second order was at our table within 10 minutes. After 15 min we notified the waiter of what's missing and he seemed confused but said they'll get it started. 5 min later he updated us, but recited the incorrect order and asked to see the receipt. 5 min later he said they're working on it again. After 35 min of waiting (20 min after we told him of our missing order) we had to leave. When I said we have to go, the waiter said "Then Go". No apology whatsoever at all throughout the service. TL;DR: My beer had rust on the rim, waited over an hour for my food and my wings, ribs, and duck rolls were ICE cold. Like 45 minutes after cooking type cold. Managers did their best. Everyone in the restaurant was talking to each other about the slow service and problems with their orders. Some never coming out at all. This place was pretty bad. Not sure why we even sat down but I wanted soup dumplings so bad we went in anyway. I noticed as we sat down that there were to customers returning their noodles. We ordered a half dozen apps and the soup dumplings came out first. They were hilariously served in a shallow plate that was filled with about a ladle full of soup and 4 sad looking broken open dumplings. It was pretty clear they never intended for the dumplings to actually be soup filled and when I asked they said this was a different way of serving them! Naturally this was absurd, I've eaten soup dumplings many times, even in China and never have they intentionally broken them open and then just ladled soup over them! We handed them back after they tried to sell us a story about them. Next came the scallion pancake. It was terrible as well and was mushy and simultaneously undercooked and oil saturated. It was at this point that I knew we were in for a long ride. So I said we would like to leave and to hold the remainder of the food. Bailing went as well as it could, although the manager tried once more to tell us that the soup dumplings were simply a matter of taste and that everyone has different "taste buds". I once more reiterated that that wasn't what we were complaining about and rather the false advertising. On our way out we spoke to the two women sitting behind us who had handed their soup back. Turns out they were Chinese and were drawn to the joint because of the Chinese writing being legit and the food items written out in Chinese characters out front. I am now really confused how they could overcook everything and make the kimchi fried rice so disgusting. Nothing to do with Korean style. I beg you can only find the smell of burnt food besides the salty flavor! The wonton is definitely from freezer and hardly any of them is intact after cooking! For an airport stop this place wasn't bad. All of the ordering was electronic, no waitress, which was convenient and meant you didn't have to wait. The food was just average but I didn't have high expectations for an airport dumpling place. The salad was really good and the dumplings were fine but nothing special. I appreciate the option to order dim sum style portions of dumplings and buns, because sometimes you just don't need a giant cheeseburger before sitting on a plane for hours. Ordered a steamed pork bun and order of pork potstickers during our layover. The food came insanely fast--like, probably too fast for it to be made to order--but it was hot and I was hungry. The potstickers are pretty decent. Crispy bottoms, good amount of filling. I wasn't a huge fan of the bun. It was too sweet and the sauce made it soggy. I wouldn't order it again. The other issue at this place: fruit flies, fruit flies everywhere. I pretty much gulped down my glass of chardonnay because they were all over. Sorry, if I'm paying $12 for a glass of wine I'm not letting the darned flies get it. Are there better options at Newark? Maybe.
