Last time I am visiting this place. For the third time this cashiers have short changed me. Once is a mistake. Both the male and female in the front make the same "mistake." Really? Not happening again.

Xia Long Bao ~~ Soup dumpling ~ One of the two places that we frequent !!! Have to order the soup dumpling. Probably the reason we go to these Chinese places !!! We had the xialongbao, House Special fried rice and the beef & green onion dishes. We were very disappointed with the beef & green onions since the meat was just too soft and the sauce was bitter(?????). But the fried rice was soooooo good.

Best dumplings in Bergen County! For 3 people, you can get two orders of dumplings, one entree to share and Boa Buns for under $50. The food is always delicious and the entree is enough to share between 2-3 people. This location is always busy but worth the wait! Been here so many times and the recipe never changes. FYI this location is street parking

We visited on October 28th to celebrate my husband's birthday. We absolutely love this place -- it's about an hour away, so we don't get to go often, but every visit feels like a special treat. Staff is friendly and the food is delicious

I ordered takeout from here a few days ago. I can't speak to their soup dumplings or their authenticity since I went with an American style dish (sesame chicken) but I was satisfied with what I ordered. Their menu had a nice selection of chicken, beef, seafood and noodle dishes and the prices were reasonable. I was craving sesame chicken this particular day. I still haven't been able to find a spot that makes it quite how I like it or as good as NYC Chinese places. The sesame chicken here wasn't particularly crispy but the flavor was decent. It didn't have the depth of the sesame I like and it wasn't as crispy as I prefer but at least it wasn't sweet or ketchupy like some places and the meat wasn't all filler (though there was some filler). The serving was enough to have leftovers which I appreciated. Would I order again? Probably since the price is right, but Still on the hunt for great sesame chicken.

The namesake soup dumplings are absolutely worth it. In fact, the workers are so confident you'll order them that they'll set down the small dipping plates with your menu and glass of water. I'm nowhere near an expert when it comes to soup dumplings, but I know what I love about these - thin but expertly wrapped dumpling skins that manage to contain lots of hot, sippable soup and a tasty meat filling. They come six to an order and come to your table in hot, steamy bamboo baskets. On each table, there are pour bottles of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil to make your version of a perfect dipping sauce. I'm also a major fan of the string beans here. They're flash fried in hot wok oil to a perfect tenderness with just a tad of fermented funk. These are far and away my favorite way to enjoy string beans, and Old Shanghai doesn't disappoint. There were a few but major pitfalls with our dinner. One was ordering the beef with peppers as one of our main entrees. We were enticed by the pictures (both on the menu and on the front window when we came in). But in a major catfishing swap out, we were given a platter that was mainly shredded peppers with a little beef. The peppers were also so spicy that we were shoveling mouthfuls of rice with every morsel. That led to the second snag with our meal. We were given a little bowl of rice with that entree, and after chowing quickly through it, we unthinkingly asked for another. At the end of our meal, we nearly choked to find that they'd charged a whopping $2.50 for the tiny serving. Ya'll, I know food costs are rising, but that hurt a little. Those quibbles aside, I'm still dreaming about those soup dumplings and when I can have them again. Service is somewhat cold but frighteningly fast and efficient.

Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings - Palisades Park, NJ Old Shanghai has been a longtime favorite for me and my family--we've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The soup dumplings are hands-down the best in the area (I could honestly eat them every day!). I also love that it's BYOB, which makes it perfect for a relaxed dinner or a special celebration with your favorite bottle of wine Some of our must-try dishes: Steamed Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings - absolutely delicious and full of flavor Vegetable Fried Rice - simple, fresh, and perfectly cooked Peking Duck (by the slice) - rich, savory, and crispy Double Cooked Pork Szechuan Style - bold and spicy in the best way Beef Chow Fun - tender beef and chewy noo

Tasty place, and particularly enjoyable on a weekday during lunch. Old Shanghai is situated on a main street in Palisades Park. Paid parking is available on side streets. There were plenty of spots when I arrived. The aroma outside is phenomenal, partly coming from this restaurant and likely the one next door. Plenty of tables were available during lunch on a weekday, service was attentive and food came out fast. It was overall a great experience. The tofu noodles were interesting to try, but not much flavor there. I poured my dipping sauce on top to liven it up. Sesame chicken was ok, but I really just got that for my daughter. The soup dumplings are excellent! The crab and pork combo one is particularly tasty. We also enjoyed the marinated jellyfish too. Salt and pepper squid was another solid choice. Crisp, flavorful and tender. I'd definitely return if in the area.

Delicious food is even better with excellent friends.  Such a fun day at lunch with my friend and her husband at Old Shanghai Soup Dumplings in Palisades Park, NJ. Obviously their soup Dumplings are amazing, but each dish was better than the next. Their Sticky Rice Shumai may have been my favorite, but the Triple Delight, and Beef Chow Fun were amazing too. It's a cute and fun restaurant, and the service was excellent, and very attentive. Looking forward to our next visit to try the rest of their menu.

Much better experience the second time around! Again ordered take out but placed order online. There is $1 surcharge for doing so. They automatically add tip but you can adjust. The only downside for ordering online is that the time the order takes is not accurate. The default seemed to be 30 minutes but took half that time. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, shrimp wonton soup, eggplant with garlic sauce, udon with beef, and triple delight. For the $65 or so that we spent we got a lot of food! The pan fried pork buns were so good! I definitely prefer these over their soup dumplings. The shrimp wonton soup was different. The shrimp "wontons" are similar to shumai. What the shrimp was wrapped in though didn't really hold up in the soup. The eggplant with garlic sauce wasn't that spicy. The beef in the udon and triple delight was nicely cooked, not chewy or fatty.

The location of this place was very nice. The people were very welcoming. There is not a parking lot however I found plenty of parking around the area. I'm going to start off with the soup dumplings. They were my favorite and full of flavor. Every dish was so good the beef chow fun was light and full of flavor. The sesame chicken was crispy and so good. The house special fried rice was delicious. I have no complaints of every dish that we ordered here. Everything was light and full of flavor. I am definitely coming back here and have told a couple of people I know to come visit this place. They have so many options on the menu. Thank you for a great experience and I will be returning very soon.

Stopped here for lunch. Staff were friendly and happy to give recommendations. Very clean inside and spacious. Food came out very quick! We enjoyed the cucumber salad, crab and pork soup dumplings, pork buns, and veggie lo mein!

TLDR: the best soup dumpling spot in the area. My go-to on a cold day. This place gets EXTREMELY busy on weekends and dinner time. It is very hectic and lively as most of the customers are families or large friend groups. Soup dumplings have the perfect skin, flavorful soup and very fresh meat. I prefer the one with crab meat. MUST GET. Pan fried pork dumplings: okay flavor- not the best I've had but still good. Pancake with sliced beef: extremely flakey with a generous portion of beef and great flavor. MUST GET Braised Fried Gluten: extremely flavorful broth that is soaked up by the fried gluten mixed with a bunch of other ingredients. A great appetizer. MUST GET Spicy beef and tripe: spice levels vary depending on the day so be warned. Might not be worth the gamble for some people House fried rice: perfect amount of Smokey wok flavor with a generous portion of shrimp. MUST get

We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. Preserved cabbage with pork noodle soup, syut3 coi3 juk6 si1 min6, 雪菜肉絲麵 $9.50 This is a satisfying Chinese comfort food. This noodle soup was abundant with noodles, pork and chopped vegetables. It provided warmth to my very broken heart. Shanghai chicken in wine sauce, zeoi3 gai1, 醉雞, $8.95 A traditional Chinese cold appetizer, aka Chinese Drunken chicken made with Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Shanghai pan fried U-Don noodle, soeng6 hoi2 cou1 caau2 min6, 上海粗炒面, $11.95 Abundant noodles with good consistency and it not heavily filled with grease and oil.

I (loved everything I) ordered: - Pork Soup Dumplings: You get 6 dumplings, and they are served with black vinegar. The dumpling size is pretty decent, and the pork filling is seasoned well. - Mini Wonton in Chili Oil: You get 8 wontons, and by NO means are they "mini"! To me, they are regular sized. You can tell they are homemade - the wonton skin is delicate (not thick, but not thin) and holds up the chili oil really well. This is hands down my favorite version out of all the ones I've tried at other places - the reason being is that the wontons are not drowning in the chili oil. - Cucumber in Garlic Sauce: Goodness, this is my favorite version of this dish. The sauce is phenomenal, and the garlic gives it a nice kick/bite. I could just eat this and a bowl of rice, and call it a day. - Stir-Fried Shredded Pork w. Chinese Celery & Bean Curd: SO flavorful. The bean curd is firm and has a noodle like texture, so it holds up really well to the pork. I don't hate celery, but it's not my favorite green - in this dish though, I LOVE it lol. - Bok Choy w. Shitake Mushrooms: not salty and clean tasting. This is a great vegetable side dish. - Stir-Fried Beef Chow Fun: This was great! What really did it for me is that they actually incorporated scrambled eggs into the dish (and the eggs were nicely seasoned). I also loved the fact that instead of onion, they paired it with cabbage. I heart you.
