We decided to try the this place. So...the barley part of their name would imply that they have beer, however they do not have their liquor license yet, but were nice enough to give us a complimentary Bud Light. But despite the face that I was thirsty after a long work day and wanted more than one beer, the burgers were why I was here. I went with the Haystack, which had haystack onion rings, BBQ sauce, cheddar chese, and bacon. The burger was cooked medium, came out on a large bun, and was rather tasty. The fries were just okay, however they had spicy ketchup, which was rather awesome! The staff was quite friendly, and several people stopped by after we'd gotten our food to check on us. I honestly wanted to go back the next day, and try something else, and although I did not go back the next day, I will definitely be back!!! read more

Terrible. I have no idea how this place got 4 stars. Yelp has never been so wrong. From the burgers down to the fountain soda it was all subpar. I rarely write reviews, but I don't think this place deserves 4/5 stars when there are wayyyyy better burger joints for cheaper in the area (I.e. Olive burger). I asked for medium but the burger was tasteless and burnt to a crisp. The "onion fries" in the half/half were basically just French's crispy onions that are used to top a green bean casserole. Even the French fries had no flavor. I though maybe the Coca-cola syrup was out, but all the beverages were gross. I ordered the down under burger, the motz sticks and a beer. I sat at the bar. The service was good but it felt like they made it a little short. Like they were in a hurry. There were only maybe 8 people already eating in there. My thoughts are that the burger was extremely salty. They cook it med rare. It was good but the salt really took over the taste. The motz sticks were really good. Good size and you get 5 for your order. A little uneven w the melted cheese w in but didn't take away how good they tasted. They do have a lot of fruit flies though. I sat at the bar because I was eating alone and watching the game. Not a ton of them but even 3-5 makes you look like a crazy person swatting them away. Take away. I won't be back. The food here is divine. If you're a fan of Whataburger's Patty Melt, the Patty Melt here is a five-star version of that: heaven on earth. Get half and half (fries and onion strings) cause a regular basket of fries is just too boring. Went for a late night hamburger and from a friends recommendation we tried Haystack Burgers off of Central Expwy in Richardson. The place is small but it packs a punch with deliciousness!!! I ordered the Haystack burger; bacon, Haystack onions, and BBQ sauce. My husband ordered the build your own burger and we ordered the Farm House burger to go and an order of fries which was more than enough for the both of us. Solid burger. Bun was great. The toppings were good. The meat though was missing something. I cant put my finger on it but the texture was off. Compared to Liberty Burger, this place falls behind in flavor. If you are in the area and want a burger, this place is still a good choice. But I certainly would not go out of the way to eat here. Great to have a local restaurant serve such excellent fare! The Barnhouse Burger was sublime with a bun that stayed intact to the end despite the juicy burger. The fried onions were also superb with their flaky crispy crust, so much better than the overly-battered rings that you can't bite through without pulling the whole onion ring out. Locally owned and operated, the owners (husband and wife) were very friendly and chatted with us for a bit despite the lunch crowd still thinning out. Haystack just opened in the plaza at the southwest corner of Belt Line and 75. It's a fast casual concept where you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They are supposed to get their liquor license later in the week. I believe they are going to have local brews like Peticolas on tap, which is really exciting for anyone who loves beer. My husband and I had the Haystack and the Down on the Farm burgers which we split so we could try both. We preferred the Farm burger which is more classic: cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo & mustard and lettuce. It was pretty tasty. The Haystack (fried onions, cheddar, hickory smoked bacon and barbecue sauce) was a bit messy and had a little too much sauce on it which overpowered the burger. The fries were cooked well and had a nice seasoning on them. They were a little oversalted though, and this is coming from someone who likes salt. The staff was friendly and they checked to make sure things were going smoothly. Overall, pretty impressive considering they have only been open for a few days. I think the food deserves 3.5 stars but I rounded up since I expect them to work out the issues. I know the neighborhood is very excited to have them! read more

I must've heard about this through the newspaper and I thought why not give it a try? I did, it was ok. The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't knock my sandals off good either. I had the Haystack Burger and the Half and Half (half onion strings and half fries). I do like onions and they're a must have on my burgers, but all I could taste was the onion strings on my burger. It's like the onion strings overpowered everything even though there was also bacon, beef, and cheese on the burger. The people that work here are friendly. The wait time was about 10 minutes after ordering. It's just that there are so many other burger places in DFW, I can't justify going back. How can anyone be loyal to one burger around here? Returning to unfortunately take off a star. I tried their black bean burger and honestly, it's one of the worst I've ever had. It was soft and mushy; so much so that the buns could hardly contain it. Chunks of black bean patty were falling out of my burger as I attempted to eat it. On top of that, it was seriously lacking some type of seasoning. I still think Haystack is pretty good if you want a greasy, hearty beef burger. However, I'm one of those people who actually LIKES black bean burgers and craves them from time to time (I don't order a black bean burger just for the sake of "being healthy." Our favorite burger in DFW! We have been here numerous times and always enjoy our experience. During peak lunch and dinner hours it can be a minute or two before a table is available. Just walk up and order and the owner or staff will help you find a spot! Our favorite menu items are the Patty Melt, Barn Burner, Escabeche Burger(a special off menu item), and El Tres. They also have chicken and other kinds of sandwiches and salads. But with a burger as killer as they have we always get the burger! The meat is so fresh and they cook it to a perfect juicy medium unless requested otherwise. The toppings are superb and add that perfect kick of flavor. They have several options on sides. The French fries are just right. They also have fried onions, pickles, jalapeños etc.. Craft beer and their signature cocktail The Haymaker. We usually go with our kids for lunch or an early dinner so we don't normally get an alcoholic beverage. They offer desserts as well. The milkshakes look divine, but we are normally stuffed from their savory food and forget to save room. :) We live in Mckinney but use any excuse we can to make it to Haystack! Haystacks does it again! Great burger, cooked to medium, and it was a correct medium. I really enjoyed the half and half, fries & onion strings. My advice, keep the burger simple, let the quality ingredients of the basic burger impress you. The casual and clean aesthetic is welcoming because most burger shops just "phone it in". When you get the chance, try Haystacks, it is truly a great establishment. I know this is odd to some people, but I love the clean cloth napkins. I took my boy and his friend there after a basketball game and the food was phenomenal. The prices were high for a burger (over 9)without fries and a drink. We started with a Community Mosaic that was super-fresh (I had two). And the Ranchero stuffed jalapeños came next. Instead of your usual bacon-wrapped, cream cheese popper, these came stuffed with chicken and some type of ranchero sauce. They were fried and served with sides if ranch and queso. Just the right amount of heat. We split a "make your own" burger medium-rare. The burger was perfect and juicy. The bacon and avocado were plentiful and the jalapeños were fresh and crunchy. Fries were great and the fried onions were lightly breaded and tasty. The a atmosphere is laid back and quiet enough the you can enjoy the music (pretty sure they set it to Sirius' Alt Nation). I was super excited to try this burger joint because burgers are my favorite food group. My burger was pretty big and had BBQ sauce on it, I will probably not go with that one again and try something different. I love most sauces but for some reason not this one. We. Ordered the chips and guac while they made our burgers and the chips were good, the avocado tasted really fresh but it lacked salt, I don't think they put any in it, we mixed a nice amount in and then it tasted great. They give you so many fries and they tasted pretty good. This place has outdoor seating and is in a pretty cool part of Richardson so I'll probably come have dinner again when I stop by Alamo draft house or half price books. read more

You do your city and your state proud by promoting local. Had a Haystack burger. Delicious. It tasted like I just pulled it off the grill in my own backyard. The barbecue sauce was a nice touch. My family loves Haystacks. We dine there frequently. I have not been a fan of BBQ on a burger in the past, but I love the Haystack Burger! It is perfect exactly how it comes with cheese, bacon, onion rings, and bbq. When my family wants to go there and I want to eat something lighter, the picnic salad is my other favorite. I have only allowed myself to indulge in the Nana banana pudding shake a couple of times (and that is only if someone will share it with me). It is so, so good. It consists of bananas, vanilla wafers, it has to have a ton of cream. It is very addictive, you cannot just take one drink. Besides the food being consistently good, staff is friendly and we love the atmosphere. Dinner stop after my grandson's school concert! No gluten free buns, but wow, great burgers! I had an off the menu burger with mushrooms and Swiss, they gave it to me in a lettuce wrap but it was much easier eating it with a fork and knife. Real plates, cutlery and cloth napkins make this place a cut above your average burger place, but the real stars are the burgers! REAL MEAT to begin with none of those preformed patties with fillers, you can taste the quality of the meat. Fries are also the real thing! Young adults who have been raised on fast food or I should say fake foods will not like the taste of these real meat burgers. They were certainly high quality and very very tasty! I'm not a Richardson/Dallas native, just stopped by while visiting from another state. I had the Haystack burger with out cheese. The burger was delicious. The meat was a perfect medium rare and the haystack onions and the bacon took the burger to another level. The BBQ sauce was good as well, but it was different than most BBQ sauce I have had, definitely tastes custom made. They have a great beer selection as well. The reason for the 3 stars is the fires. Love this restaurant and the staff is always kind, helpful and as efficient as can be. As you can imagine, it gets crowded at busy eating times, but the staff does their best to accommodate and assist guests in finding a place to sit. I seem to have bad luck at places that have high ratings. I will actually prove my point with a picture of the grilled cheese I ordered. I wouldn't really call it a "grilled cheese" maybe partially melted and partially cold cheese and bread. I will say, if the cheese was actually melted, I think the jam/sauce or whatever they call it added great flavor but still.... It's a grilled cheese and they couldn't even get that right. When I eat out, I'm really hoping for something different and something better that what I can make at home. Unfortunately, haystack just didn't hit the mark.
