LITTLE TOKYO FOR LIFE! I love this place. The food is AMAZING and FRESH. The menu is large and diverse, and the waitstaff does a great job of talking you through the 200+ sushi rolls. Plus, the chefs also do substitutions to make any roll or dish to your exact liking. I love the owners more than words can describe. Hubby and I ordered takeout this evening, 10/16/13. It was not like my past visits - the only thing different was I did not done in. I ordered Bento Box G and the chicken was warm in the outside but cold on the inside. It was thoroughly cooked so that told me they are using frozen cooked chicken. The fried rice was bland and the fried vegetables were blah. I didn't even bother with the salad or soup. My husband on the other hand ordered 5 rolls - Angel roll, Dynamite crunch roll, Spicy crunchy tuna roll, Jimmy roll and one other I can't remember - he loved all of them. I started dining at this location because my beloved Pearland location is still renovating for the past several months!! I still prefer the Pearland location but Pasadena will do for now. This location is definately more packed and is smaller. The quality of the sushi I can tell is a bit different. Even though the menu is the same somehow it still tastes better at the other location. Bias maybe? Perhaps, but it is what it is. Service here was alright, both times I dined here the servers went MIA for awhile but no biggie it was just a water I needed. Oh and some napkins. And some more ginger... -_- I probably won't be coming back since Pearland will be open after this month is over. Food is still good though ! I LOVE this place. We were introduced to this place a couple of years back from some DP residents that had been frequenting this place for years. I finally decided to try it and was very impressed. I have enjoyed everything that I have had here (with the exception of the fried banana dessert (it had no flavor!) What we typically get: Gyoza appetizer, house salad (I could swim in the dressing it is sooo yummy), Rolls: Toinette, Cotton, Armond, and combination fried rice (very meaty and good.) The rolls are very inexpensive compared to most sushi places and very tasty. The service is eh and most of the waiters seem like high school kids that care more about talking to their friends than making sure you are taken care of but the food completely makes up for that issue. Visited this restaurant for supper last week and thought it was pretty good. The one bad thing is they are very popular and very busy but they don't have a good setup for customers who are waiting. People were literally standing halfway out the door. Ordered a glass of wine and a three choice plate with teriyaki chicken, California rolls, and shrimp/veggie tempura. The teriyaki chicken wasn't great, it was small strips of chicken in a teriyaki sauce that didn't have much flavor. However, the rolls and tempura were really good! The jenee salad was the starter, it was all fresh ingredients. We sampled spicy Kani bowl but it had more cucumber than crab meat than I like. We tried the dynamite crunch roll, toinette roll, and the Super Bowl roll. My favorite was the toinette and the dynamite. The Super Bowl had a little bit too much cucumber. This was my favorite place to go to in between classes. Id call and order right before I left San jac and I'd go pick it up. I LOVE the princess roll, and the Cheryl roll. Both are absolutely delicious. I've sat down at a table here quite a few times and the service isn't bad at all. It CAN get busy from time to time during lunch hours, but what do you expect with a high quality, and affordable sushi place?? If I can give this place 0 stars I would!!!! The food quality is absolutely disgusting and has diminished in the last couple of years. I have been eating here for over 10 years and I'm so displeased with both food and service that I will never be back again!! I ordered the papasito, cleopatra, tiger eye and crunch roll and all the rolls smelled "fishy" and had a rubbery taste. NOT FRESH AT ALL!! $35 down the drain! And on top of a nasty meal, the service is horrible. Servers are lazy, lack communication skills and not friendly. This place is really tucked away in a strip mall so keep your GPS on when you go here. I wasn't sure what to expect based on the previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised when I sunk my teeth into my selections. The Miso soup here is really, really good. They have a surprisingly wide variety of rolls and the fish was fresh. The ambiance was pleasant, but of the strip mall heritage. Very friendly service. So this is a sushi 'roll' kind of sushi restaurant not a 'sushi' 'sashimi' raw fish kind of restaurant. I prefer sashimi to rolls, but this place will do when in the area and craving some kind of sushi. The first time I went was on lunch during the workweek. I get there in 11:40 am and I order the "H" Bento Box which includes chicken teriyaki, rice, six pieces of California roll, one tuna sushi piece and two salmon sushi pieces. The salad comes out very quickly and I eat it all. I wait and wait for the bento box. The waitress checks on me and says it will be out shortly, they have a large group and all boxes are being made together. When she checks on me another time, she says they are still working on all of the boxes. When she checks on me again at 12:20, I tell her I need to return to work. She offered to get me the manager. I waited for 2 minutes (really needed to return to work) and then went to the front & told the host that she was getting the manager for me, but I do not have time to wait on him. I felt bad because I didn't have any cash to leave her a tip for the great service she provided. I returned to work hungry. My second trip there was a little better. I quickly ordered my H bento box. I was able to eat it there, and took a few bites of the chicken and rice to go. The portion of teriyaki chicken was very small, but they do make up for it with additional sushi. I recommend this place when you have lots of time. There were some firemen who sat at the sushi bar and ordered sushi only and they got out quickly. If I go at lunch time again, I will stick to sushi to be able to enjoy it without worrying about making it back to work on time. read more

Love this place. I have still never been to the Pearland location, but I can speak for Pasadena. It has grown so much since opening and that is because of its widespread popularity and success. With that being said, Friday and Saturday nights can get packed, but their to go orders are usually pretty quick. This restaurant has something for everyone. The selection of rolls is quite impressive and the menu organizes it by favorite ingredients such as crunch, cream cheese etc. I would like to know exactly how many they offer; I'd say at least 200? If you want something off the menu and aren't afraid of a little....okay a LOT of heat, then ask for the green monster roll. Mmmm my mouth is watering. They have private rooms for special occasions and even a zashiki room (seating with feet under table in a well). I don't think you have to pay extra for the private rooms but maybe so for the zashiki...or at least a reservation? Only downside is they are closed on Sundays. read more

Restaurants in a strip mall always give me pause. Would NOT have normally gone here, but my daughters told me that the food was better than great. They only have a couple dozen tables and I could see a half dozen tables open - but we waited until they seated us 5 minutes later at one of the many tables I spied. As the name of the restaurant implies, they offer Japanese fare, so I looked at their hibachi menu items and decided to go with stir fried rice, extra chicken and veggies, pork egg rolls, and house salad. The salad was decent, the rice was very gummy, and the chicken was overcooked/bland/tough. The extra veggies amounted to what tasted like canned peas and carrots. No broccoli, cabbage, or other traditional vegetables - sad. Pork egg rolls were greasy and hot, but just didn't taste very good. Little Tokyo was very busy on this Lent Friday. However, we sat at the sushi bar (I highly recommend...see below for explanation) and had some unique sushi that I've not had before. "We" had a (I think it was a) Harley Roll & the Sashimi Combo. The Sashimi Combo had a chef's choice roll on it that had four fish in it and it was devine!!! YUM! I wish I had asked the chef what it was. The Harley Roll was really good and had a fish salsa on top...spicy tuna is my fav. Their Miso was about my third favorite I've had (which I think is pretty good). Sake was ehhh...I'll quiz the waiter next time and get something better. All in all, since this restaurant is in my neighborhood, I will be visiting it fairly often. I tend to prefer to sit at the bar and watch the sushi chef. Usually they will have the chef closest to you serve your sushi, so you may watch him. And like most of us, we perform better (maybe more conscientiously) when someone is watching us. I've never been disappointed with a Sushi Chef whom I have sat in front of. Tonight the Chef made beautiful and delicious food. I can't wait to go again! Maybe I'll improve my rating! read more

Well my husband and I come here often. It been a good 6month's since we had been here. We both usually get the lunch/dinner bento boxes. I hate that I didn't get the waiters name ugh. He was nice I hadn't seen him there before. He started to take our orders without writing them down. Then he probably realized that we had a lot to order. He pulled out his pad and started to write our order down 2 bento boxes 1 chicken teriyaki a bills anniversary sushi and the princess roll . Well we got our soups not long after that. Our order took a little long being that it was past lunch time. After we got our order everything looked good and tasty good. But our sushi hasn't come out. We were almost done with our bento boxes and no sushi. We asked our waiter about it and he kinda hesitated and was thinking. He said I'll be right back. Turns out he didn't put the order in. That kinda got me mad I really wanted my sushi after all that is why we go. He was about to put the order in and I didn't want to wait for it. He said he was sorry and that's it. There were 8 pieces for 8.00. Tasted like really old fish. Was extremely fishy. We left 7 of the 8 pieces to be thrown out. NASTY. Fished all my life. My husband and I recently went here, it was our first time since their renovation. The sushi has always been amazing! We sat at the sushi bar and was served by Justin. His service left MUCH to be desired! He visited us a total of 3 times in the hour and half we were there. Once was greeting himself, a second to bring our drinks, third was bringing us the bill after an extremely long wait. Service was atrocious. But, we started talking to the sushi chef, Pana (?) and he was incredible! He told us about his experience working there and recommended some rolls for next time. He gave us plates when Justin was busy socializing with another male employee and even tried to coerce our server to give us information about their reward card program. He never came.
