Last Friday night, we went to Live Axe for an event held in the party space on the lower level. This was my first time at Live Axe, but not at axe throwing, so I had an idea of what to expect. It's a really cool looking venue inside. When you enter from Lafayette, you'll walk around to the reception desk. When we stepped up, a woman asked if we had reservations. I mentioned the party and she said it was downstairs. Before descending the stairs, we showed our IDs and got a wrist band. We also scanned a QR code to complete and sign Live Axe's waiver form. The lower level space has its own full bar, variety of seating for guests, and (I think) two areas with axe throwing cages. That night, one area was for competitive games and the other was to just try out or practice throwing. The whole Live Axe team - safety instructors, bartenders, and food servers - were great! They were professional but still had a fun vibe and energy at the same time. My husband and I went to the cage area where you could free throw. The instructor there gave us a demo and chatted with us. She was really cool and cheered when we got bullseyes. If you're looking for an axe throwing spot in lower Manhattan, this is a good choice. FYI - Live Axe also has a Rage Room. Overall, I would recommend it!

What a fun place this is! I came here one sunday for a private work out class that was being held downstairs and than after we got to throw some axes! So this place is not only an axe throwing place and a bar, but you can also host events here too. The staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable about everything that has to do with throwing axes. The bartender here is very nice too. Axe throwing is alot harder than it looks. It is soooo much fun though! It is a great activity for a rainy day, or a work outing or just with friends and family. This place has multiple axe throwing cages both upstairs and downstairs. There are also two bars. The one downstairs is alot bigger and nicer than the one upstairs. If you find yourself in this area and want to try a new activity I highly recommend this spot. Also, it does not matter if you're new to axe throwing or a pro. The staff here will teach you everything you need to know to be able to get the axe on the board.

I'm torn on what to review this. I'll start off by saying that I am not a fan of axe throwing - I've done it twice before and I'm not particularly good at it. However, our company was hosting a party here so I needed to participate :) The two employees teaching us how to throw were very detailed and helpful. They stuck around the entire time. The bar staff was fast and pleasant, too. The food was just ok. They have a cool photo wall downstairs and the bathrooms were very nice!

My husband took me for Valentine's Day and honestly it was the coolest date. We had an online reservation and check in was seamless. There's a large clean bathroom downstairs with photo opportunities around it. We did the 2 people cage with Brendan who was AWESOME. He was very friendly, patient and supportive. I had never touched an axe before and won 3/4 games by the end. There's a full bar with snacks and tables to hangout. I actually cannot wait to go back again soon and bring some more friends. The facility is close to the Canal St subway stops for easy access.

Such a fun place!! Kevin made it so fun and kept up with our group's stupidity and competitiveness he was awesome!

I found myself at Live Axe for an after-work engagement event. I remember when axe throwing became a thing a few years ago, it intrigued me but I never got around to trying it out for myself. That all changed the other night, and I was looking forward to finally throwing one of these things around while connecting with my colleagues. Live Axe is located near Chinatown - the space is pretty large and is set up were there are different "cages" around the space where parties will be throwing their axes; down the center of the room are long tables where food is served and you can socialize. When we walked in we were greeted by the hosts who walked us over to our section; it was there that we met Gabriel who served as our host. Gabriel went over the roadmap of our time at Live Axe: we we started by doing a couple of practice rounds where he taught us how to properly throw an axe. Then, we broke our into two teams and played some games. It was really a lot of fun - I found it a great way to blow off some steam, and it was great to socialize with my colleagues outside of the office. All the while, Gabriel did an excellent job engaging our group and keeping us on track; he really made the whole experience a great one. Can't forget about the food - the majority of the menu is what you would expect at a combo eat-and-play venue: chicken, flatbread pizzas, a giant soft pretzel, etc. - everything was tasty. Their drink menu is also noteworthy - they have a number of specialty cocktails as well as ones that are tried and true. Overall, Live Axe was great fun - I'm glad I finally got to experience axe throwing for myself, and the staff really made it a memorable experience. I would have no qualms returning to throw some more sharp objects around.

4 stars!! What could possibly go wrong when you mix axes, liquor and beer?? LOL!! Came here with a group of 8 for a team building event. This is a great way to let off steam and get to know fellow work buddies, friends or family members better. What you find out may surprise you. What made it special were the people who work there. I was greeted when I walked in the place, was asked sign a waiver (NO SURPRISE) and the person who kept score, gave everyone tips on how to improve their skills were great. You should plan on making a reservation. During the week they open around 4 or 5 pm. Saturday and Sunday are at 1 pm. The lace was busy so plan ahead. They do offer discounts for groups which should save you a few dollars. All you need to do is check website which shows all pricing. The also have league events if you join their team. The equipment was in pretty good shape, I would have liked see the boards in a little better shape. As mentioned earlier everyone was friendly, they have a great bar, they do serve some food, mainly snack or appetizer food. The entire place was clean and well maintained. Overall great experience, I would definitely recommend them and would definitely come back.

Came this Saturday i booked a shared cage for 7 pm. I was running a little late but still made it. The instructor was nice and very helpful. We only got 30 min but wasn't too bad. I ordered the Mez'kall and the chicken skewers. The drink was good but not too strong. The chicken skewers were cooked well very tasty, but I would've rather leafy greens than the shredded lettuce it came on. My date had the peasant sandwich a whoping $21 jeez; he said it was good, although he had it plain. My second time here after the pandemic, and it was empty but started filling up around 8ish. There is plenty of seating. I like the concept of the shared cage it makes for great conversation, meeting new ppl, and friendly competition. Although we didn't have anyone to share with, it was still cool. The bathroom is clean. There's a big bar downstairs and cute picture ops. The staff was friendly. I will definitely return. I also wish the menu wasn't so limited. Add some fries and burger.

And absolutely phenomenal experience under the watchful eyes of Jason, the bartender, and Gaby the axe instructor. Drinks were phenomenal, and my crew had an amazing time learning how to throw axes for the first time. And there really isn't much else to say about this place besides the vibes are absolutely immaculate and you'll have the best of times thanks to the best crew in the customer service industry. As usual, I stuck with my classic blue Hawaiian and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Great place to blow off some steam after a hard days work!

Went here for a team event and it was super fun. It was my first time and thank goodness I didn't hurt anyone or myself. The staff here are very friendly and the drinks are solid. Can't go wrong with a cold glass of beer or an old fashioned. We ordered some white and red flatbread pizza, pretzel the giant, garden on a skewer (skip this one) and grilled corn a cob (def skip this one). There's plenty of space upstairs and downstairs. We played a couple of games which was super fun and competitive. Would be a fun date night spot as well.

The entire staff made this a birthday I will never forget!!! Lex and Michelle were the BEST coaches and matched the vibe of our crazy group so well!! The bar staff easily made one of the best margs I have ever had in the city, and the music made us feel like we were in a night club throwing some axes. I had so many different types of people with me and everyone said this was so much more fun than they could've expected! 10/10 recommend read more

I'm loving these indoor adult playgrounds! You eat, drink & practice your axe-throwing here. It's the perfect spot to release your anxiety & stress. They have great instructors who teach you. Axe-throwing is tougher than it looks but practice makes perfect. I even scored a couple of bulls-eyes! Check their website for all pricing because they have special prices for groups! The food was also amazing, I seriously loved the white pizza made w/ gruyere, mushrooms & olives. The bartender also made refreshing mocktails for us with mango & cotton candy. Theres a photo room downstairs with many instagrammable opportunities. read more

Such a great experience! I was beyond nervous at first about throwing an axe but the instructor was very clear with her directions, the lanes were nicely spaced out and the targets were pretty comical! This venue is such a great place for a date night or group of friends to do an activity. There's a bar and kitchen and the food was amazing. Have you been Axe throwing?? No- then you should go. So much fun. This location is good- I prefer downstairs and please ask for Stevie to be your instructor. He's awesome- personable fun and most of all a knowledgeable and expert instructor. The drinks are good and the food so so- but that's not why you're there. Go grab and Axe & have a blast. Threw a birthday party here and had an amazing time! Live Axe was very accomodating and perfect for group parties like birthdays, corporate outings, and so on. They have a large space downstairs with multiple cages, which is separate from the upstairs for walk-ins and smaller groups. Live Axe also offers food and drink packages. If you are new to ax throwing, this is the perfect place to learn. Our instructor was very engaging and friendly. At first, I started out rocky, but with practice and guidance, I was able to get the grasp. Our instructor also added a bit of game/friendly competition, which made the overall experience very fun and memorable. Highly recommend if you want to try something new! read more

Fun activity for a group or a date. If you're bored of doing the same bars and lounges, sitting around and having hard-to-hear conversations, come here! It was busy on a Saturday night, but having made a reservation beforehand was helpful. So, make a reservation online! There are 4 options, the size of your group changes the length of time you get. The cost per person averages to about $50, depending on weekday versus weekend. The reservation requires you to pay a deposit. Each group gets an "axe-pert" who stays with you for the entire time. I had Jason and he was a great teacher and kept things fun with the practice rounds and a scoring game for the group. Please show your appreciation and Venmo some well deserved tip to your axepert instructor! The Instagram photo walls are downstairs, And the bathroom is nice as well. The only negative thing is the bar prices. They are a bit steep. But, it did keep me from getting drunk, so maybe it was a smart move by the establishment. We don't need something stupid to happen with axes flying around. Everyone has to sign a waiver to throw an axe. But not everyone needs to participate. And they are checking for proof of vaccination. read more

Came here with wife and kids for her birthday- bit of a gamble, but we had a blast and she loved it. They have someone stand with you the whole time and teach you/ core t you: we were all hopeless for the first 10 mins or so and then by the end we were throwing bulleyes. Place is on 2 levels with a bar on both, and I think they also do a bit of food. Definitely worth a visit for some fun. read more

This is well overdue. We went to Live Axe over the summer and had a blast! There were some problems. The online booking gave a time slot that apparently didn't really exist- so when we showed up, we somehow didn't have the reservation for which we had already paid. We also got double charged and it took some work to get the money refunded, but it was refunded. And the person at the front desk was fairly useless. You are thinking, wait, this sounds like a negative review. But it is not. Sure problems happen but it is how they are handled that is the measure of the business. After we got to the manager, everything was grand! Not only did he figure out a way for myself and my nephews to play within 30 minutes, they sent down a free delicious, hot pretzel. But the thing that really made our night special was our instructor, Sabrina. She was FANTASTIC. Full of energy and fun. She made our whole experience. She is an amazing asset to Live Axe and I can't say enough great things about her. Def. ask for her if you want the best experience possible. We have to been to Kick Axe the day before and had the exact opposite experience. They were organized and we got a lane at the time of our reso, but the people there were not that helpful and the experience was just not fun. Hence our trying out Live Axe the next day. Talk about an awesome afternoon of fun! Myself and two of my girlfriends decided to step out of our comfort zones and give axe throwing a try. Our experience was positive from start to finish. The food and drink menu is small, but it definitely serves its purpose and the food was tasty( (you're there for the experience not the food!) Our "cage master" or whatever the heck they call it, Damien was incredible! He was so patient and helped us perfect our technique and we ALL were able to hit bullseyes by the end of the experience. Ive been to multiple axe throwing venues in the city and this by far is my favorite. The place is beautiful with lots of places to sit and have a drink and take cute pictures. Our instructor was the most helpful, he made me go from 0 to hero in under an hour I cant thank him enough. Not to mention this location is super convenient being next to Little Italy and lots of great restaurants. If your trying to decide where to go let this be the push of encouragement that you needed. read more

Had a great time at Live Axe, lots of street parking, great food and drinks, super friendly and creative staff. I had never thrown axes before so this was a novel activity for me. When you start throwing axes for the first time you feel a rush of adrenaline like no other. I highly recommend this place for your next personal outing or corporate team building. We had a really great 12-year-old birthday party at live axe! The cage Captain was very patient and helpful with training the kids and with the games. The waitress was also very accommodating and everyone enjoyed the pizza and the pretzels. The adults enjoyed the drinks too! I went with a group who was attending a private event here. Your surrounded by beautiful decor. Great axe instructors who keep you engaged and you lose track of time there just time spending with friends. This is a great spot to go to with friends. We went on a rainy day so this was the perfect activity to keep all of us sane. Have a little aggression and need to take it out on something? This place was awesome. Our guide Sonny was phenomenal; he was so knowledgeable and helpful but most impressively brought amazing energy and spirit every moment of our group's two-hour session. I couldn't recommend Sonny and Live Axe more. The bartender was also such a lovely person and made us all feel right at home. read more

My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday to celebrate our anniversary. The place was easy to find. What made Live Axe a five star place was their instructor Danzel. He was friendly, fun, and informative. He made sure both my gf and I had fun even though we never threw axes before. If I were to come back I would make sure to have Danzel as an instructor. read more

Be aware this is another NYC spot the makes up their own rules and discriminates. I went to grand opening with a few friends and was immediately turned around and isolated by the owner for wearing sweats. Keep in mind there was no dress code on the flyer. I wore sweats to go axe throwing with $1700 shoes on a clean outfit and was denied. Keep in mind I was the only thicker AA women out the group I walked in with. Went through the pics for the night and there were two white men in sweatshirts that seemed to meet his liking. Know what you're getting yourself into if you decide to go here. Other than that food was great and staff was amazing but the owner is your typical self centered sterotypical dick. read more

We went to Live Axe on a Thursday night to mix it up and do something differently than just going to a bar or lounge. I highly recommend getting a reservation because if you just walk in you may not get in or you may have to wait as Live Axe is fairly busy. There's a nice bar area with large tv's and several axe throwing cages. Each axe cage has a guide who is there to ensure safety and facilitate fun. Ours was named Gabriel. He was fun and a great teacher on how to throw the axe as well axe safety. Gabe first gave us safety instructions then taught us some axe throwing techniques. We then practiced a few axe throws and proceeded to play several competitive axe throwing games. We had a great time. I highly recommend a visit. We'll be back. read more

Took my BF here for his birthday. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and then started our axe throwing session with Colin who was the BEST teacher. I couldn't figure out how to throw the axe initially but got weirdly better at it and hit like 15 bullseyes or so. Pretty awesome. Ended that with drinks at the bar and okay hear me out- I've had a lot of drinks at a lot of bars and worked as a bar tender briefly and I've legit never seen such a fancy looking drink. The bartender, Ernesto, essentially made customized drinks for us- which worked really well for me bec I am the pickiest person on earth. We're both planning to join their league during the summer so we could do this more regularly. read more

I came here with my company team for an activity and it is a great spot to do for corporate bonding! Even though we arrived late, they started our 90 minute clock when we got there. I booked the group online for 11 people and it was seamless. Jason was our coach and he was so engaging with teaching us how to throw and correcting our form so we got bulls eye. He kept cheering us on and even came up with games for us to play. We had such a great time with him that we even asked him to throw with us on our team! The waitstaff was also very kind, they came by to take our drink orders and service was fast. We didn't order any food because the menu only had snacky type of items read more

My two friends took me axe throwing for my birthday and we had a BLAST!!! We started off with drinks and they didn't rush us at all to start and we weren't rushed out. Sonny gave us very clear instructions and was incredibly fun! He was cracking jokes and in on the fun! He even made whoever was sitting down feel included. This place is super fun and it's perfect for corporate events and friends gathering. I had never done axe throwing but they had a staff that explained how to play safe at each section so it was easy for me to understand how it works! I also liked how each section has a bar table so your group can eat and drink there while two people are playing. Cocktails were delicious, and so as the food. read more

Held a company holiday party here. They ripped us off for over $5,000 charging us a per head charge for guests that did not attend and making all kinds of spurious claims about supposed terms and conditions that directly contradicted their own website, price brochure and contract. Then they made some more claims contradicting the previous lies they had just tried to get over with. These people are incompetent operators, imbeciles and crooks. Do not do business with them! read more

My husband is a 9.5-10 and he got a 10 which also fit great. I love that we had our own section and the menus were already there. We got a round of drinks and a sampler platter. It had mini mozz sticks, tenders, wings, pretzels and fries. Everything was delicious. There was a manager hanging around making sure things ran smoothly and our server came by to check in a few times. We bowled from 7-9 finishing our game around 8:57 and then went to look around the arcade. I used the bathroom before leaving and i will say it was surprisingly very clean. They were timely on their food/drinks. I had a latte which was pretty amazing. Ended up getting an oj which was pretty amazing and a latte. They tried to make a heart with the foam of milk and it tasted really good. Ended up getting the mushroom omelette. I really liked how fluffy the omelette was and how it had feta cheese.

SWEET CHILI CAULIFLOWER: Flavor was good and breading was crispy but the inner cauliflower was undercooked. Definitely could have been cooked better. GUACAMOLE AND CHIPS: Ok. Daily they have a pianist rotation along with bar staff who have voices of angels. Service at Duplex is always superb, table or at the bar. Duplex gets better the more you open yourself to the social happenings around you. Share a drink, take some shots, sing a song in front of strangers. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job. It's near other stuff we like, and the music and vibes were that good on the first night. And if it sucks again, there's like a thousand other places in walking distance.
