Good food here! Large portion sizes for decent prices (except for the crab claws... market?). Went during the Holidays and the fresh catch was Sea Bass for $16! Very tasty and filled me up! Oysters were ok, didn't taste like that day's catch. All in all, will recommend! read more

The food was solid, the atmosphere laid back (just what you want on a vacation with your 7 kids), & the staff was super friendly. We were seated as soon as we walked in, which is no small task when seating 9. If we had been 10 minutes later arriving we would have had a wait (we arrived right around 5pm & had to park in the back). The staff was very accommodating too. Have bartenders playing dice behind the bar and giving our free drink to girls who leave after they get their free drinks. Good business right? On a short vacation in Gulf Shores, we were looking for a seafood restaurant that may have karaoke. Early in the afternoon, we stopped in several places to check menus and . entertainment. Went in to Live Bait, the entry foyer was nice, spacious and welcoming. Greeted by an employee, I was given the menu to take back with me and told, yes, we have karaoke tonight. So we made our decision to try them. We arrive about 7:00, and taken inside to what appeared the ugliest dining area in the world! Grease coated wood paneling, multi-level wood floors that we're almost black and wall decor from the 1940s senior living home! We decided to go ahead, ignore the cosmetics and give them a try. Ordered drinks, and off the bat, it was wrong! Waitress evedintly has a listening to the guest problem! The special was Royal Reds! I ordered them and no mention as to the preparation so I was a bit taken back when it came out looking like a garbage can of make believe low country boil. A corn on the cob with that frozen supermarket flavor, three little potatoes with no flavor except for the microwave they were heated in and about 10 royal Reds staring me dead center with their eyes wide open. One taste of the first one and the flavor, or lack of flavor, could be attributed to the use of a generous helping and combination of every type of seasonings the kitchen has! Along with lack of seafood flavor for the spices, they were well overcooked and tough! A feeling had the fried shrimp, and obviously a frozen product straight from the shelf. Being right on the coast and with so many seafood markets available, one would expect freshness, but it certainly isn't here! While we're eating, some guy is trying to sing and play guitar. However his guitar technique is a one string, one note, at a time with the rythym if a fly buzzing around the room! We ask about the karaoke I inquired about earlier, and was told it's outside on the back patio. Mind you, this is the gulf coast in August with a temp of 94° and heat index in the 120s! Add that with the patio and no breeze, it's bound to be a disaster! Just imagine if we'd be out there and trying to enjoy a drink or two. It's a guarantee for a deathly ill heatstroke! Overall, nothing worth mentioning that I would or could recommend about Live Bait. A disaster for us, and to the tourism! Avoid this place if at all possible!!!!!! read more

I'll be honest here. As our group of 8 walked in I deeply had doubts. The restaurant was nearly empty and staff was just hanging around. Once we was sat down, it moved into one of the best meals we had on our vacation. Service, food, and entertainment was beyond my gut feeling upon arrival. That being said after dinner and arriving back to our condo I realized I left an expensive pair of sunglasses. Called back to the restaurant and I was told. O ya we got them. Well we decided to check this place this first night we stayed here in orange beach for our honeymoon and were very disappointed. First off we felt like the food was extremely overpriced for the quality and amount of food we got. Secondly since being here the gumbo there was probably the worst gumbo we have ever had and it was the most expensive not to mention we both went back to our rooms and were sick the rest of the night.. However they did get two stars solely for customer service, our waitress was so kind and very helpful when trying to accommodate to our preferences. Because they also have a no substitution policy which is understandable but makes it very hard to find something you want when there really aren't many choices on the menu. read more

We had an excellent lunch here. The Firecracker Stimpy Wrap was amazing and the fried shrimp and seafood pasta were excellent, too. My husband also enjoyed the Fried Cheesecake. The staff were what set this place apart from other restaurants. Very good service and our server gave helpful suggestions as we decided on our meals. The decor is very nice, too. Honestly, I thought the name of the restaurant was unappealing or we would have tried it sooner! I'm glad we finally ate here and will return next time we visit Orange Beach. read more

We went here looking for exactly what they had on the menu but, was severely disappointed in alot. The waitress came to our table took our water all around order and my oldest son ordered the fried pickle app. Which all came out immediately, we felt so much pressure to order, we sent her away 3 times we are a party of 7, Having never been here before (geez woman give us a minute) We finally ordered my husband and I got the Angus Burgers, mine with Onion Rings his with fries. My sons best friend whose 22 ordered the LIVE BAIT BURGER which was immense. 3 Patties, Bacon, Sausage, Onion ring, Fried Pickle, Fried Egg, 3 cheeses, lettuce and tomato on a sourdough bun but, the sourdough tasted more like a sweet bun which confused us all. Our Angus Burgers were also suppose to be on Sourdough but, the bun was soo sweet there's no way it was a Sourdough. She didn't ask us how we liked it cooked (our meat) until she left then it dawned on us. We did not see her again until after the food was delivered. My youngest Son 18 ordered the Tuna Wrap which he absolutely LOVED. My husband tried and was quite impressed. Our oldest son 22 and our 19 year old daughter ordered the Crab cake Mac and Cheese which they loved but, was like a lead balloon. So rich and decadent. The cheese was really dense and thick and needed to be a little more loose. Our friend traveling with us ordered the Combination platter. The redfish fillet was super small, 5 shrimp, 6 Fried Oysters which were not pleasant according to hi, a cup of Gumbo which actually was pretty good and a ton of fries. We never saw the hush puppies and coleslaw. So for $30 he felt slightly shorted. We couldn't complain to the waitress since she disappeared yet again. The place wasn't busy so there's not that excuse. Our waitress never asked if we wanted a bar drink, or dessert she brought us our tickets while we were eating our food. They really were looking forward to dessert and my husband and I were looking forward to a drink. We had plenty of designated drivers. So all in all its a quick flip restaurant and you don't get a choice in a lot of things it seems like to us our first time there, WHICH WE TOLD HER. So disappointed. We wont be back to this establishment again which is soo sad the theme was fun and the band was pretty good and with live bands being few and far between its quite sad. We vacationed in Orange Beach this week. We ate here for dinner. The place was a nice, low key restaurant venue. It took about 10 minutes before a waiter came for our drink order. We ordered Alligator Bites as an appetizer. It came to the table with a long, dark hair in it. The waiter acted as if he didn't see it. He took it back to the kitchen. He came back to take our order. I am somewhat of a picky eater. I asked the waiter if I could order the Grouper Bites from the appetizer menu and add a side salad. He accommodated my request. Shortly, after my family of 7 ordered a girl came to the table with our Alligator bites, per her words. We all dug in to them. My son had ate them before in Florida and he said they tasted different. My daughter in law said they were quiet fishy. Everyone else loved them. After we almost ate the whole bowl, a different waitress came out and said these are the alligator bites. I asked what we were eating and she said that it was the Grouper that was ordered. It was my entree that I ordered. I nicely told the waitress what was going on. She said she was sorry, but never offered to replace anything. We sat with empty drink cups well after everyone's food arrived. My daughter enjoyed the coconut shrimp and youngest son liked the popcorn shrimp. My husband really liked the Mahi-Mahi special. My son ordered an Alligator sandwich and it was a bun with the alligator bites all over the plate. My daughter in law ordered a steak which look like a hockey puck. My salad consisted of lettuce, cheese, and 2 tomatoes with very little thousand island dressing. My husband ordered a draft beer which sat at the bar through our entire dinner. It was on our ticket and we never received it. So, we had a bad experience here. The restaurant was not that busy to have such horrible service. There were more tables empty than with people at them. Orange Beach is our get away spot. We try new restaurants each time we visit. The only positives were the food and the hostess named Jane. the gentleman that seated us was rude beyond belief. the waiter did not know what came with the meal nor did he come back to see if we needed drink refills. Had to ask for our check which took forever and he just handed us a receipt piece of paper and stood there until we paid. Jane was at the door when we left...so pleasant, listened to our complaint and apologized profusely. Will not waste our time or money again! read more

We also had fried crab claws devoured them, I ordered fish sandwich blackened didn't care much for it ordered slaw, tasted terrible. The only reason Live Bait is getting 2 stars is because I was here a few years ago and they have cleaned the restaurant up with new paint, bathroom vanity, tables and chairs, and vanished the bar. No change in style just fresh and clean. However the food we had was cold and awful. The hamburger is thick and looks great but was lukewarm at best. We also had Alaskan Snow crabs, cold, cold, cold! They did take them back to bring us hot and fresh. They just tried to reheat what was still in the dish. Flavor was not good. Potatoes were old, cold, and overcooked. We picked this place because it was close to our condo, there was no wait (4:45pm) and they served non seafood items. We all left very full and happy. Service was excellent and attentive. We had two orders from the fish of day list. Both were excellent. The grilled shrimp dinner with a salad and grits was well done and got high remarks. This is the first place we tried after entering town. Although it is basically across the street from the beach the seafood is definitely not fresh. My food was also served room temperature with no warmth left at all. Once the manager was told another person in my party heard the manager negating my complain right beside our table. Sooooo many things to critique. I'll stick with the food. We got take out since the weather was sketchy and we wanted to chill in the room. First thing to know is there is a 10% charge for take out....well ok then, that's new...I figured well it better be good. Ordered 3 cheeseburgers and shrimp Poboy. While you do get a lot of shrimp not all of them are totally peeled and 90% of them are scattered across the box while 10% actually end up in the sandwich. I guess that's so they can get cold before you get down the street to your hotel. The "cheeseburgers"....expect to pay extra for a cheeseburger that has a patty and bread and no toppings. And no cheese. Just bread and meat. Not a wisp of lettuce not a splatter of mayo or ketchup. Just a party. The fries and onion rings....eh. Nothing wonderful or memorable but they weren't bad...just kinda there to justify the price you get charged...oh and don't forget to tip for your takeout on top of your carry out fee...they work hard putting the minimum to charge you the maximum. THERE ARE BETTER PLACES. I would say the name matches the food, but I'm sure the local wildlife eats better. read more

Went in for a late dinner Memorial Day week, all other places had ling lines but we walked right in and were seated. Ordered Live Bait Nachos - excellent. Huge...get a to-go box. Also ordered Shrimp Alfredo - rated excellent! Burger and fries were very good. And they had a family friendly karoke in the Tiki Bar....little 6 yr old stole the show! It took us 10 minutes to put in a drink order after being seated and they weren't packed. It was like they sat us and forgot about us. Someone came and asked if we were waiting to order... I got a Piña Colada and the wife got a Bushwacker. We don't think there was alcohol in either. On to the food. I got the fried combo plate. Fried shrimp, oysters, fish, a fried stuffed crab (didn't know that was a thing), French fries and gumbo. The shrimp, fish, and fries were decent, the oysters were big and not battered well, and the crab was inedible. As far as the gumbo, just wait until you visit Louisiana for Gumbo. I know this as I am from La. but it came with the meal. Wife had fried crab fingers and fries for $26 and they were small. Some were just claw and batter. We won't be back and you could probably do better. I say probably because I haven't had anything great in Gulf Shores yet. Mediocre seafood at tourist trap prices. Bleh. read more

We were 10 people, so 18% added. 2 ordered drinks commenting on the souvenir glasses they will get with their drink order, as per what was written on the menu, they did not get the glasses. They mgr said because they were only charged $10.00 for the drinks instead of $18.00. So they were not giving anything. You would have had to pay for them. I had crab cakes. Dry, and no flavor. They give 3.5% discount if you pay cash. Well the ones that paid cash would only get the dollar bills back, not the coins for change. Some close to a dollar of change not given back.
