Please don't waste your money here. We had a table of 12. They should have had two servers on this table. At no point during this dinner was drink service adequate. Chilled water was set out when we arrived, trying to get more water after that was like asking for money out the servers pocket. I never got a water glass, then had to ask two more times before getting one. Then got a cold stare when I asked them to clear off the 6-8 empty water bottles and bring some more water. The only redeeming features of the meal, the mojito and old fashioneds were great. The wedge salad was great. The crab bisque tasted good just wish there was more than 2-4 bits of crab in it. My wife's steak was cold. The Pontchartrain grouper, green beans, and mashed potatoes were cold when received. As was 4-6 other people's dishes at our table. I asked to heat my plate up and they were baffled someone would complain about poor food quality. For a $200 dinner, it was disappointing. I typically don't write reviews, unless it is a very exceptional experience or a horrendous experience. And unfortunately this was the latter. Fishers was the restaurant that had been in this space for years and was my favorite!!! Sadly, They closed a few years ago ( not due to lack of business). When we stepped in the elevator my husband said, this does not make a good first impression, it was filthy. The interior of Fishers was gorgeous, elegant and comfortable. It has now been decorated in tacky seafood restaurant decor ( fishing nets, lighthouses, etc) and is painted a bright harsh blue. We are seated and we had two waitresses come to table , we assumed maybe one was in training but they never introduced themselves that way. They were both like deer in the headlights. We ordered a drink and an ahi tuna appetizer. It was a triangular piece of tuna floating in Italian dressing. I could not cut it with my fork. I had to spit it in my napkin. My husband then went to the men's room and when he returned he said " I can't eat here", he said the bathroom was terribly dirty and the toilet was stopped up, and it wasn't utine. He said " you can tell a lot about a business by their restrooms". We didn't touch the tuna again. They take reservations which is a huge plus. Seated immediately and drinks brought out quickly. I got the fried shrimp. The French fries that come with it were great. The shrimp had a light batter and were cooked perfectly. No one at the table was able to finish their meal so that should give you an idea of the portion size. Shipp's Dockside Grill at Orange Beach Marina is in the same space that was previously occupied by Fisher's which I only got to eat at once before they closed. Shipp;s Dockside Grill is very similar to Fisher's in their casual downstairs restaurant which is pretty much self-service while their fancier upstairs restaurant is far more distinctive with full service. So actually this is two seperate restaurants so I would give the downstairs restaurant a 2 star review and the upstairs a 4 star so an average of 3 stars for the entire place. Shipps Dockside Grill has one of the best brunch options in the area and offers some really good dishes and combinations on their brunch menu. I've actually been to brunch at Shipp's Dockside Grill multiple times which I can't say that about any other spot in the area other than Cobalt back when they had their amazingly awesome brunch buffet that I will ALWAYS miss! read more

I wanted to love this meal. I also don't like leaving negative reviews. I feel genuinely bad knowing that sometimes things happen beyond a restaurant's control and I don't want to sound like a Karen. But our experience was so bad, I felt obligated to write a formal review. Our experience begins well--we call en route and the kind hostess gets us a reservation. We walk in and first impression isn't awesome--water is all over the floor at the lobster tank area, the picture behind the hostess stand is comically crooked, multiple tables have dirty dishes on them, etc. I don't normally ever care about things like that. It's about the food! So we get seated. Our table is visibly dirty but set with clean-"ish" dishes. I wipe the crumbs away and move on. We ask for the large water puddles to be wiped up so our silverware isn't soaked. Kind of gross but oh well! They wipe it. Our wine glasses are dirty with lipstick stains. We convince ourselves it's fine. Alcohol will kill the germs, ha. Bartender spills wine on our table. That's cool, oh well. Never gets cleaned. Oh well. Not a huge deal, won't affect the food. Moving on! We order our food. We notice half the restaurant is filled with dirty tables still at this point. There are saltine wrappers literally blowing around everywhere and bugs keep landing on my table. I joke with my husband that I really just want to help them sweep up because it is comically dirty. But that's ok, right? We get our food. My steak is cold and raw. I feel bad sending it back. I don't want people to spit on it but truly too raw to eat. Our waitress immediately assumes "it's undercooked, isn't it?" I feel sorry for her. It's not her fault. They have her working the bar and multiple tables. It's just a cluster. It comes back wellll done--brown--despite hoping for a medium rare. Oh well. At this point, I capitulate and I eat a roll while my husband eats his meal. Lots of flies in the restaurant. We just keep noticing how dirty everything is. Slowly the place is clearing out and no tables are cleaned off. The floor is comically dirty. I see a lady bringing food out try to pick up a piece of trash. It just all feels gross at this point. I'm over it. There is a large table of probably 20 seats that was dirty the whole time we were there. Still weird no one has cleaned it off. They comp us dessert due to the steak debacle. We're over it. We're sad. We heard good things about this place but are starting to wonder if our friends punked us who told us it was good. This felt like fast food dining with tourism prices. I wanted to love this place. I did. I could not in good faith recommend it. It needs some serious management help. Disappointing for sure. read more

Service was nothing short of outstanding. We went on the earlier side so things probably get very busy from the crowd I began seeing as we were leaving. Crab bisque had a velvet smooth texture, great flavor- needs more crab meat. Gumbo- excellent flavor no added hot sauce needed. Fried shrimp were perfectly cooked. This is an odd menu item, but I'll admit, I'd eat it again: crab and Brie quesadillas topped with hot honey. Not a big portion but perfect with the bisque. This had great flavor! Horrendous beyond unbelievable bad. Had to send back the gumbo tasted burnt and salty like seriously salty. Filet was well done should have been rare. The rigatoni was precooked and warmed up sauce separated from the pasta is was also inedible and really bad. What a disappointment this was. Service was as good as it could be from a fast food chain. The food came out so fast, that I wasn't even finished with my salad and my 3 yr old daughters burger had raw spots. the potatoes were instant, not fresh. While the environment and service were pleasant, the food was underwhelming. Because I shared dinner with my family, I got to try the crunchy shrimp roll, smash burger, oyster po-boy, and Big-Shipp sandwich. The crunchy shrimp roll was quite bland and the tomato salsa that it came with was unnecessary. The smash burger had a strong pickle taste if you're a pickle lover! With the oyster po-boy, I only received 6 oysters. Considering the sandwich was $18, I definitely expected more. The Big-Shipp was by far the best deal! The sandwich came with a good quantity of chicken and the chipotle sauce was pretty good. Overall, the vibes and staff of the restaurant were great! However, the food is mediocre. Shipps Dockside Grill has taken over the space in the Orange Beach Marina. The decor is beautiful and soothing with simple accoutrements. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive, talking us through the menu. I ordered the grouper which was fantastic! The flavors exploded in my mouth. My husband had the filet and he was very pleased. Was so excited to try this place since Fisher's was my most favorite in OBA. We booked a table for upstairs, and all the wait staff were super friendly! We started with crab claws and the "Shipp-faced" cocktail and an Aperol spritz. All were very good! All together we tried the Mahi mahi, swordfish, oysters (Cajun & Rockefeller), crab bisque, and the wedge salad. Both the mahi and the swordfish were overcooked and under seasoned. The swordfish was meant to come with "pineapple salsa, coconut butter, & toasted coconut." The pineapple salsa was not made with fresh pineapple, and there was no coconut flavor whatsoever. Oysters and crab bisque were good, but not the greatest we've ever had. Wedge salad was phenomenal. House-made dressing and crispy onions made this my personal favorite of the whole meal! All in all, it is definitely a jump from Fisher's. Dockside dining also looks very different. Not sure if it's worth dropping the money and another night of vacation to come back. TLDR: Skip the fish, grab a cocktail or two, and don't expect Fisher's-caliber or bang for your buck read more

The first thing I noticed were the floors they look like they were mopped with the old fryer grease and the hostess had her beverage and bag of potato chips sitting on top of the hostess stand. The Blackneed tuna appetizer was OK but the pineapple salsa it comes with is heated, which made it gross. Two of us ordered fillet Mignon and there was zero sear on the meat.I had to send mine back the second round was no better I asked for it to go. My dog is literally eating it right now after I cooked it. The plates were covered in what look like cream of chicken gravy. It literally looked like a plate you would get at a nursing home. The grouper was unrecognizable after the amount of accompaniment they put on top of it like they're trying to hide it.The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the server was great. I had never tried the upstairs (fine-dining) experience at this location, and so gave it a try for our anniversary. What we encountered there was far less than stellar. The floors desperately needed a sweep, the barstools were peeling away, our chairs stuck to the floor and were covered in food scraps, dishes we were finished with were never cleared from our table and the entire place seemed unprofessional and understaffed. The food was delicious, we had the tasty gumbo, dinner salad with the home made dressing, piping hot bread with the homemade sweet butter. Then we were served the blackened mahi with crab meat and an amazing sauce that was served over very delicious mashed potatoes and a side of cooked to perfection string beans. This was an anniversary dinner. We have been to the physical location when it was another restaurant and were excited to go here, as we remembered how lovely the previous establishment was. Wow!! Not in a good way either. The server was fine and the food was mediocre but, the cleanliness of the establishment and unsanitary practices of the staff was abhorrent. We went at 5 pm, not at closing time. The floors were filthy, utensils laying on the floor, counters in hallway to the bathroom looked like a single man's apartment before eviction. I can't even come up with an appropriate descriptor for the baseboards- appalling. The bathrooms had no toilet paper to use but plenty of it and paper towels on the floor and in the stalls. Entering and leaving the restaurant by the stairwell should have been the first clue. The multiple double doors by the elevators were crusted with grime. The most appalling was the unsanitary practices observed by our party of the staff. They sat in the hallways or leaned against the wall typing on their phones and then went to serve customers without washing their hands. Their back door was left wide open, while servers sat outside by the doorway , while 2 others threw food over the railing to feed the fish. The flies were prolific coming into the restaurant from the door. This restaurant has potential but clearly has a managerial problem if it is this unsatisfactory due to cleanliness alone.
