Visited Lizard's Thicket while in town for a family event, and the food was excellent. I truly enjoyed every bite. Unfortunately, the service didn't match. Our waitress (Billy or Bailey, I believe) seemed distracted, a bit rude, and I had to ask for drinks repeatedly. She also appeared unwell, and there was an off smell, which made the experience less pleasant. Great food overall, but the service could definitely use improvement. read more

Our family has loved Lizard's for years but we had horrible service. We received an order of chicken fingers that was raw on the inside and a tomato with a huge rotten spot, sitting right in view on the plate. When we asked for a new tomato slice, it was never brought and when we followed up on it, the check was given to us. We will not be back. read more

We are long time patrons of the recently remodeled Lexington location. This morning's experience will be our last time there. I ordered a Carolina omelette and grits. There was a strong metallic aftertaste in both. I didn't eat it. The waitress came by and asked if I wanted a box I told her no because it was inedible. She left the check and removed the plate of uneaten food with no comment or offer to get me anything else. When I went to the register and was asked how everything was I told them it was terrible. No response. Therefore no tip and you've lost us as customers. Do better. Maybe care when people have an issue for starters. read more

Staff was friendly as could be, no issues there. The food was awful. I wanted a fried egg with the yolk broken, but the waitress had no idea what I was talking about. Bacon looked, felt, and tasted like microwave bacon. The chicken and waffle was inedible from rubbery chicken to a hard waffle. The biscuit was clearly from a frozen box that was baked in the oven. The white gravy was also clearly made from a powder and heated to luke warm temperature. The grits were not cooked until tender and had a fishy aftertaste, as if they were starting to spoil. I gave this place 2 try and both were disappointing. First time I had the baked chicken which was extra dry. Rice and gravy was ehh, tasted like boil in a bag rice. Greens were good. Rolls and cornbread were incredibly dry. Second time I tried the fried catfish which was flavorful but not crispy. Mac and cheese has zero flavor, like how can you not taste the cheese? Idk but anyways then I had the greens again and they weren't as good. So a lot of inconsistencies and it just wasn't good for me. Maybe you'll have better luck. read more

I was sick and wanted some chicken and rice soup, so I went through the drive through . First , the wait was extremely long , however the lady at the window was nice . Next, by the time I got home , the soup was cold and very bland . Not the usual standard. There were pieces of chicken skin and fat floating on top of the soup . I couldn't eat it ... I asked for two pieces of cornbread , which I got , and they were fine. They now only give one with soup if you don't request 2. I couldn't find the White Knoll Lizards Thicket on here but I just had to say something about that one. First off, I ordered the fried pork chop with mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn and Lima beans...oh and a piece of cornbread that was ALMOST warm enough to melt the butter spread. The fried pork chop was cooked to perfection and was soooo tender....could have used a little salt but made up with it by all the pepper. For a place that boast their "real Country Cooking"...I have to say the rest was trash. Instant mashed potatoes with canned/jarred/packet gravy, frozen rubbery corn and I don't know what those Lima beans came from but they were awful!!! The other night I ordered beef stew, mashed potatoes, double Mac and cheese (crunchy if they have any). My hubs ordered something silly like chicken and rice soup with a double order of okra and tomatoes . My food went to the pups. My beef stew was tough, and the potatoes crunchy and Mac and cheese. Well, let's not even go there with the Mac! I called the restaurant to tell them of the mishaps. Was assured that "I'm going to go back to the kitchen and check this out ASAP! We can't be serving tough stew". Ok, well, as far as portioning goes here, the scant amount in my container constituted you SERVING it. To me!!! No offer of a free order if and when I come back. No, I'm sorry your meal sucked, we'll make it right for ya. Told hubs "gonna take a break from the Thicket for a while. We just wasted $25 for dog treats." Apparently that went on deaf ears. He asked me the next morning, "hey babe, wanna waffle?" I ASSUMED Waffle House. NOPE, he came back with Lizards Thicket, bc he wanted liver pudding . I'm a Southern country girl to the bone! Can't even smell liver pudding! Yucky! He brought me back cheese grits and a slice of "city" ham. Country ham - TOO SALTY! He got his usual 3 runny eggs (all the more yuck to pile on the pudding). Liver pudding, cheese grits and wheat toast. He remembered DRY white toast for me, with blackberry jelly! Yummy! He got PupPup her usual side order of bacon - well done. How a 7lb chihuahua eats 4 slices of bacon is beyond me. She also "snagged" a few pieces of my ham. I guess bc she didn't want me to share it with her sisters! The sisters got to snack on the few morsels of pudding and grits my hubs saved for them. HOUSE RULE#1: no "puppy sugars" for at least an hour after said pudding is eaten! All in all, I'll give them a 3. ZERO for supper. Five for breakfast. The breakfast should have actually pushed the score to a 4 bc it was sooooo good! Unfortunately, the beef stew almost brought it to a 2. Still a little peeved that I wasn't offered a replacement meal. I'm NOT a "oh my goodness, there's a blade of grass on the floor-I wanna free meal!" I just want what's due us. I go to Lizards Thicket bc MY beef stew is tough! Had the worst meatloaf of my life. Meatloaf had a lot of rice to stretch the amount of meat. It was topped with tasteless stewed tomatoes. Plus not of the food was very warm considering the place was basicly empty. We have no intention of returning to this location. Hopefully all locations are not like this. read more

Lady was rude when I mentioned the replacement and stayed there was an up-charge. IMO, if you run out of an order the restaurant should respect the pricing. Spoke to the manager and he was oblivious. I went for the 1st time to Lizard Thicket Friday night with my son. A couple friends told me how they served good food there. Well, my son ordered country fried steak with Mac-cheese and I ordered chicken with French fries and string beans. Needless to say...(((EVERYTHING)))was bland!!! I usually take my family out every Sunday evening (4 adults and a child). It's a challenge to find many places open on Sunday these days with any kind of descent food. Lizards' food is usually pretty reliable; however, on 7/09/23 I don't know if it was or not. I took my family and we sat in the back dining room. Multiple servers walked by our table but no one even spoke even though they acted like they saw us there (we had a hungry 3 year old with us too). I think we had been there about 15 minutes (another table of six came in after us and had their food already) when we just had to leave so we could get the child something to eat. read more

Let me start off with the fact I love Lizards Thicket. The chicken fried steak is awesome, the country ham is wonderful, and their squash casserole tastes just like mom makes it. But this particular location sucks at getting orders correct. My order is wrong at least 80% of the time, without fail. I literally can't remember the last time I got everything I ordered. My son and I got drive thru breakfast this morning and he ordered sausage patties and skillet apples with his breakfast sampler and got bacon and no apples. Last time I got dinner, I ordered chicken fried steak with double squash casserole and tomato slices...I got squash casserole, mac and cheese, and no tomato slices. Its just annoying that my order is never correct. Their other downfall is their white gravy. I like white gravy, but it is chunky with flour pockets about half the time. Sometimes it's wonderful and smooth and perfect...sometimes it looks like they had someone from up north who has never cooked gravy before in their life make it. The service is great, everyone is kind, and we really love the food, but the complete inability to get an order right and the chunky white gravy knocks off two stars. These issues seem to be mostly isolated to this location. Other locations, like the Elmwood location, do a lot better. read more

Mac n cheese was actually good despite the looks of it, it isn't really cheesy but good. The salmon patty was mushy on the inside (I like mine with a nice crispy crust, it was just all around mushy) my husband got chicken & waffles and the chicken was so plain, the crust once again wasn't crispy. Lizard's Ticket is the poster child for southern casual cuisine. I took my wife there on her second visit to SC, and she absolutely loved it. The portions are large and the variety is fantastic. You have tons of selection for the sides, so you can have a different meal every time you go. The service is usually very pleasant and prompt. The exception is if you happen to go at the major meal times, they don't seem to adjust the wait staff accordingly. Parking is plentiful, and the location is fantastic. read more

Corn bread was hard so they made more that wasn't for us. Sweet tea was perfect! Service was a little sluggish but they were pretty busy when we got here so we weren't upset by it. I actually really enjoyed my time at this restaurant. I had a few items but i suggest ending your meal with a slice of BlackBerry cobbler. Their desserts are on 99 cents! They have a large parking area and the waiters were nice for the most part. We went after a huge rush, or so we were informed, and they were trying to clean the mess from it up in the back dinning area. We sat at a small booth in the fron area because of this. Usually I don't ever give a bad review unless I feel 100% sure that it absolutely deserves a one star. I don't even know where to begin where it went wrong, our waitress wasn't even friendly, kind or took the time to listen. I really never come back to town usually is work related or family related. Being military I'm never really home as it is, and this is one of the main places I stop. Because it reminds me of home. And a home cooked meal. But when your drink has been sitting there for 20 mins with know refill, the waitress walks pass you multiple times without stopping and plates are piling up. I believe you don't know how to do your job, sorry not sorry. The people beside of and behind us got their food way before we did and they came in about 15 mins after us..... Lizard's Thicket is the Midlands staple for quick Southern home cookin'. Pick a meat and three sides with plenty to choose from the menu board. My usual go to is baked chicken with fried okra, black eyed peas and Mac and cheese. They also have detailed menus on the table with items not on their menu board. Grilled cheese is pretty respectable on hot buttered Texas toast. Add some 'nana puddin' and sweet tea and yer good ta go! Beware. The Thicket can make ya thicker. read more

Picked up breakfast through the drive thru today which was probably a bad idea when ordering 3 breakfasts. We all know things can go wrong in the drive thru.. Ordered 1 omelet, full order of biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and a country ham and egg breakfast (choice of side was grits with red eye gravy and toast) I'm from Eastern NC and grew up with red eye gravy. It's hard to find so when I see it on a menu I always order it. I had no idea Lizard Thicket had it on their breakfast menu until today. Anyway, the egg portion of the meal was supposed to be "over medium" and grits were ordered with red eye gravy and of course the same on the country ham. The idea of toast dipped into the runny eggs just made me happy since I haven't done that in so long. Upon getting home with our order (shoulda checked it before driving off) it was disappointing to find no red eye gravy (ordered a side of it too just in case there wasn't enough) on the ham or on the grits and no side of it. The "over medium" eggs were scrambled eggs :( It wasn't the end of the world and it will be ok. Just a bummer when you don't get what you ordered. It seems like every time we go through the drive thru at this particular LT something is always incorrect. So as a lesson to ourselves..always go inside to place an order so you can double check it with ease. Other than the few mistakes the food was good. The grits were good. Nice and creamy and even better with added salt. 3 Stars because 4 seemed too high for this many mistakes. I don't normally write bad reviews because I always hope a place can redeem itself..but trust me if I did, some places would have some scathing ones. read more

I have lived in SC for four years now and have yet to try Lizard's Thicket. Most people that I know and have eaten there have said that Lizard's Thicket is so-so, but wanted to give it a try. Since it was only going to be me frequenting the restaurant, I decided to try the drive-through. Horrible with food preparedness 3 separate orders of chicken : 1- tenders,1- fried breast and 1- barbque all undercooked to the point of blood running out of it. Even when one order was sent back the replacement came out the same. Waitress was upset which it was not her fault she was great really great. Manager on duty took meals off of bill but it is not appropriate to serve undercooked food. This was a party of ten.
