My husband and I tried this place today for a late lunch. Their service and food were great, but their math skills were a little challeneged. They charged us twice for one of our entrees, but when we brought it to their attention, they fixed it right away. There prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. I really enjoyed the tacos, and my husband liked his chicken burrito. The complimentary chips were nice and warm and think, which I like, but the salsa was a bit on the hot side for me (but I am a wimp when it comes to spice). Update 10/7/18-Wow! Has it been 9 years since my last review?!? From 5 stars to 2 and here's why... Me and my husband went into Urbano's a few days ago because he was craving Mexican food. It was a week day and not crowded at all. (We bypassed on Chevy's (Tex-Mex) for authentic.) We were greeted by a very jolly man and had us pick a table. He wasn't anyone we recognized but that doesn't mean much when we were there for food. We both ordered chimichangas which were very good on previous visits. This time, not so much. The chimichangas are half the size and lacked flavor. The sour cream and guacamole served on top were almost not but there was so much shredded lettuce it could've made a side salad. (chips tasted old as well) Moving on to the rice and beans. Yuck! The beans were very dry and had no seasoning and the rice was very bland. I don't know what happened to this place and possibly it was just an off day but as previous yelpers stated, it is quite run down with very large tears in their upholstered seats. Although the server was vacuuming while we ate, it still did not hide the much needed shampooing of the carpet that needed to be done. Our server was friendly enough, even asked us at least 6 times if our food was good. Slight overkill. My husband even mentioned how you couldn't smell food cooking. Almost as if their food is now frozen and reheated rather than cooked from scratch, which based on the flavor, may be true. My family and I started going there on a recommendation when we lived in Roseville. When we first drove by, we were less than impressed because it didn't look like much. (It's located in a tiny strip mall and at the time, most of the stores were no longer in business). We decided to skip it the first time we drove by and made an unfortunate decision to go elsewhere. The 2nd time we drove by we went in. You can choose either a booth or chair seating and there is plenty. The servers are right there with your fresh chips and salsa and the drink of your choice. They have margaritas, beer, sodas, tea..etc. The food is made daily and comes to your table quicker than you can finish your basket of chips. The food is always hot, there's always plenty and the prices are very reasonable. Urbano's is a family owned/operated restaurant and reservations are not required (although you may consider calling in to check on the wait Cinco de Mayo) ;) Go Go Go to Urbano's and don't do the same thing we did and pass it up the first time..Looks are definitely deceiving. 7/4/09-still the best mexican food ever! I only chose this place because I wanted to try out restaurant.com (I got a $25 gift certificate for $10). What restaurant.com doesn't tell you until after your order is that you have to spend at least $45 when you go to the restaurant and they will automatically add 18% gratuity. I'm not sure if this is true for every coupon or restaurant, but it was true here. In the end, we still saved money, so I'm not too annoyed. I wouldn't have tipped our particular server 18%, but oh well! Now to the actual restaurant...the food was delicious. The portions are ridiculous; I don't think any of us finished off our plate (there were eight of us). We all ordered different things off the menu, and everyone was very happy. I got chicken burritos which were amazing!! The chicken was tender and greasy, Mexican-style! Every dinner was served with a great portion of rice and beans, salad (just chopped iceberg lettuce with some tomato) and homemade tortillas. Oh, the tortillas! SO. GOOD. They were freshly made, piping hot. Mmmmmm... Also, the guacamole was pretty good. Same with the chips and salsa. Good, not great. However, if you're looking for a nice place to take your significant other or family, this isn't it. The decor is lacking, the waitress we had was silent and often absent (although our food did come out quickly), and there are a few blaring tvs showing Mexican channels. This is all fine if that's what you're looking for. Summary: Decor: lacking Service: depends on the server. She did ask ahead of time if we wanted to split the bill up, which servers never ask!! Food: Outstanding! Not being from this area, we decided to stop by and grab a bite to eat after running some errands. Mexican food sounded great and this place popped up. It was the worst decision I have ever made. Besides the tacky and old decor, I was really hoping this place had some authentic tasty dishes. Ordered a beef taco and an enchilada. The beans looked like they were warmed up in the microwave, the rice was mushy and disgusting. The enchilada was mediocre but by far the best thing on the plate. The beef taco was a crazy concoction of taco bell's tacos and big chunks of black beef. Something disgusting you would see on one of those tv shows about horrible food. Being from Mexico, this was an insult to my culture and people. As much as I despise places like Chipotle and other want to be "Mexican" food establishments, I would rather eat there any day. I LOVE this place! The service is always fantastic and the food is amazing! Their decor is a little outdated but I forget all about it the second we get our chips and salsa! We eat here regularly and the staff already knows what we want when we walk in the door. Their chips and salsa are always fresh and yummy! On Valentine's Day after a very expensive steak house lost our business we ended up at Urbanos because we figured they would at least have great service and fantastic food. Sure enough even though there was at least triple the amount of customers than normal we were seated immediately and our favorite server was there to take our order. This is my first review on Yelp, but I just had to say something about Urbano's! This has quickly become my new favorite authentic mexican restaurant! A friend took me here and I was a bit skeptical because it seemed like a little generic hole in the wall mexican restaurant, boy was I wrong! The staff is friendly, although sometimes they forget to bring the green salsa when we request it, not a big deal and if we remind them they usually get it out to us quickly. The food is amazing, chips are fresh, warm, and delicious every time! I usually get the Chimichangas and they are by far the best Chimichangas I've ever had! I tried the Beef Taco for my first time yesterday and that was absolutely amazing as well. Everything is fresh and delicious, although it's a bit unfortunate they charge $1 to add Guacamole on the side. That is by far my biggest complaint about Urbano's, I think it should be a little bit cheaper for Guacamole, but hey I'll pay the extra money just to ensure this place stays open! Everything they have on the menu is very reasonably priced, I don't feel like I'm overpaying for my meal and the manager has been kind enough to remember us and converse with us when we come in. Everyone who works here is very friendly, and I always leave a nice tip for them because I've seen too many small businesses that had good service and great food forced to close in this economy. I now go to Urbano's AT LEAST once a week, and I would definitely recommend Urbano's to everyone looking for a nice, quite, fair priced restaurant with a calm atmosphere and amazing food!! read more

A lack of dessert options prevented this from a higher rating, but the food was well priced and incredibly good. The staff was very nice and we never had to ask for a refill. Also, I believe that the Cherry Coke was an actual fountain cherry coke, which always scores points with me. My whole family loves Urbano's and we are on first name basis with our servers! We love their prices, their personalities, their food! They've seen our kids grow and always have a paper waiting for them to color on. They love to see families come in here and our family loves to go. We celebrate many things here like birthdays, graduations, etc. The only downfall is the bathroom, but it looks like they are working on updating that. :) Their Super Burrito is HUGE and can last you for days! After receiving a bad beat at the phoenix casino I was done gambling, hungry and way to drunk to drive anytime soon! A little help from yelp and some wandering led me to Urbano's! I went in, ordered a margarita and an enchilada! To be honest the restaurant is a little hokey looking so I really wasn't expecting much. The food was good. Not to greasy, good flavor and just the right amount of spice. The margarita might as well have been a sweet and sour slushy! I don't think there was hardly any tequila in it. Great cheese enchiladas. We always pick up our food to go so I don't know about the service, but every time we go on the employees are very friendly and fast. They always throw in a big bag of homemade chips and salsa for free which is a nice touch. When he brought a plate back it only had a small portion of rice, beans, and carnitas. In hindsight, he probably just put her original food on a smaller plate. I love Urbanos! I get their wet pork burrito meal and it is my favorite meal from any restaurant I visit regularly. I have been coming here since I was a kid. The chips and salsa is always great. The salsa has more of a bite than most Mexican restaurants and the chips are very crunchy but not difficult to chew. Best Mexican in Sacramento! My grandparents used to own a Mexican restaurant. This place reminds me of their food. I have been eating here since they opened when i was small. The owners are very nice. Some of the staff might not speak English, however as far as i am concerned that is great. If they eat there then it must be good. They would know right?
