Carrot cake with nuts is the best I've ever tried. Location is easy to drive to and service is quick, if there is no waiting line.

It's very very hard to walk/ride/drive by here without the smell of delicious carrot cake just PULLING you into the store. I've seen big rigs(18 wheelers) parked up here just for carrot cake lol. Their carrot cake is ALWAYS fresh, moist, flavor-filled. I believe there's walnuts and raisins inside. (not a fan of walnuts, but it works well-- I would be happier if they chopped them finer or even crushed them) but I am happy now with how it is. They now have an addition to the original store which serves individual slices of cakes. It is HOT inside, so get your slice and go of course. I'm a little confused as to what the rave is about. My first time trying this carrot cake and I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting a lot more, being that its New Year's Eve and i had to wait on line for hours just to get the cake. So i called the place and asked if i can place an order in advance and they told me they dont do orders. (Strange) They said I'd have to come in, first come first serve. I came around 10:30 am and they told me to come back at 12. I came back at 12 and waited on line. The weird part is that what ever sells out, sells out. Even if you wait on line! The line goes out the door and down the block! So you can be waiting on line for no reason. Its ridiculous. They don't have a number system or anything. It seems like they really dont care. Almost ALL of the people on line were complaining how they had to wait hours all the time or even DAYS. One guy said he was supposed to get a cake yesterday and they even took his name and when he came back all the cakes were sold out!!! The 2 guys behind the counter were very confusing, poor customer service. They were letting people purchase over 3 at a time and when we got closer they told us sorry we cannot allow more than 2 per person now. But they let the people ahead do it, that's unfair.. you're supposed to make an announcement to the entire line that you can now no longer purchase more than 2 and sorry for the inconvenience. The cake was fresh out of the oven; which was great. I just finally cut it and it's nothing special. The cream cheese frosting tastes like regular generic brand frosting and the cake itself doesn't have enough flavor it tastes a lot bland to me. The cake was also over cooked on the bottom, you can see in photos. Made it very dry Luckily i got nuts and raisins to give it some type of flavor. They have a few other cakes too but if they have "carrot cake" in the name why would you want anything else? The place is pretty tiny and chances are you might be the only one in there amidst the throngs of workers laboring over lots and lots of carrots. This isn't just homemade carrot cake. This is carrot cake made from scratch. There's a difference. You will walk in there, see them cutting up carrots, mixing everything in big bowls, and popping them in the oven. All natural. Nothing artificial. Normally a lot of cakes live and die by the icing alone leaving the cake part to go unnoticed. Lot of places like to overdo it with the icing so you don't really notice how old or how dry their cake really is. While the icing is great here, the cake part can actually stand on it's own. Not a lot of cake places can say that, although I would have liked to have seen another layer of icing in the middle. The cake part was moist enough but what really stood out was a slight spice to the cake that I haven't really experienced before with a carrot cake. I'm not a big raisin fan so thankfully they offer slices without raisins. People seem to put raisins in everything. Apparently there must have been a memo that went out saying that everyone in the world loves raisins. Not true. I love Lloyd's carrot cake with raisins and nuts that I've had during birthday celebrations. I decided to visit the actual bakery. I made the terrible mistake of listening to the girl behind the counter for recommendations and ordered a slice of the carrot cake plain w/o raisins and nuts, as well as the strawberry with coconut cake. I realized all things I familiarize myself with carrot cake - the crunch from the nuts and actual carrots, were missing from the plain carrot cake. I was surprised there were no carrots at all, and it just tasted like a ginger cake that was really oily. I should have just ordered the nuts/raisins version b/c it was missing that crunch. There were also no layers in the piece that received. Now onto the strawberry cake with the coconut. Where was the coconut? It was a very flavorless cake - no hint of coconut or strawberry. In addition one section of the top layer of the cake was darker than the rest of the cake - and it was firm and very greasy looking - hinting that either this cake had been sitting out for a while or was not baked properly. The only thing that was good was the german chocolate cake. The coconut filling was delicious and had a right amount of caramel saltiness to it, but the cake itself was dry. Really good carrot cake. The cake was probably the best I have ever had. It was perfectly seasoned (ie not too much nutmeg), moist (sorry, had to use the word) and just perfect. I was not a fan of the icing and lack of a middle layer. Also, the icing didn't seem to be cream cheese based icing. Just went there asked if they had nuts/raisin slices. Woman was boxing carrot cakes.Was asked to return 430p. No problem. There's no way I'm coming back from the other side of town (again) to get a slice. So I picked up a plain slice and asked for a slice of German chocolate. Woman just ignored me. And continued boxing. Purchased a 6 inch carrot cake with nuts and raisins yesterday 4-6-16 for my mothers birthday. I was super excited to get this cake based off the reviews and sadly it fell short. It was simply okay -_- not dry but it wasn't very moist either... flavors weren't amazing however, the frosting was sweet cream cheese based I'm assuming. It just left much to be desired I'm thinking the cake wasn't freshly baked due to the fact I came a little early to pick up my order. The woman who decorates the cake wasn't there so I waited in the area for about 20 minutes or so and they called me back to the store when it was finished. There was already a frosted cake in the showcase shelf, I feel like that was the one use because she did everything super fast. Stale baked goods! I ordered a batch of cupcakes for my daughter's birthday party today. When I bit into my cupcake the frosting tasted like supermarket frosting out of a can and the actual cake was so dry and stale that I immediately spit it out. I'm saddened to write this review because I have been a loyal customer for years and I would always order cakes exclusively from Lloyds for every special occasion. I'm very disappointed that this community landmark has fallen off so badly! This is one of those reviews that 3 and a half stars is warranted, but I digress. A solid carrot cake. The cake flavors are subtle but not overpowering. Not a huge fan of the frosting. The taste was less tangy version of a traditional cream cheese frosting. The prices per slice and cakes I found to be very fair. I've read some yelpers state they would prefer a layer cake version. This is by far the best carrot cake I've ever had the pleasure of taking a bite off. It is so moist, sweet, and rich in texture that every bite melts in your mouth. I'm not a big cake person but whenever someone mentions this place I get so happy! This cake has been a staple during every holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc). Horrible experience!!! I would give zero stars if I could... I called yesterday to inquire if I need to place an order for a carrot cake and I was told that that is not required because they have a lot of cakes in stock. I entered the store around 1:30 PM and noticed that there was about eight people inside waiting. One man told me he was there since 12 PM waiting for his cake!! I saw the same man behind the counter from this morning and he told me that my cake was in the oven and was coming out to cool. Really??? Needless to say that after 15 to 20 minutes of waiting and not receiving my cake I walked out!! Lloyd's, you seriously need to improve your customer service. My friends live up in Riverdale, Bronx, New York and have told me of this place for awhile since I love carrot cake (but I find many carrot cakes in California to be overly embellished with too much stuff added into the cake, and too much cream cheese icing). Finally, in 2014, after my morning jog with my friend, we stopped by and I picked up two slices, the plain and the one with nuts. All I can say is WOW. This is the best carrot cake I have ever had. We used Lloyd's for our wedding cake. We had the pineapple coconut and the carrot in sheets and then cut something smaller. Betty, the owner, was the EASIEST vendor to deal with EVER. She called me 2 days before our date and wanted to double check about walnuts or no so guess what? Our cake was fresh and delicious. It wasn't old. She came to our venue in Long Island to personally deliver the cakes, she set the kitchen up and she made it so neither my husband or I worried about it. Very delicious fresh carrot cake! Was my aunts birthday and someone recommended this place. Price is decent and it's literally a hole in the wall, but they produce great stuff. There was a slight altercation when the cashier argued with the baker on writing "happy birthday" on the cake.
