Linguine alle vongole provençal style and Aperol Spritz

Arrived 4:45pm to snag easy street parking in the residential neighborhood. Waiter clarified menu descriptions. Fast, friendly and attentive service throughout our meal.

Is it the crust?!!

Second time here and it was amazing as the first time Food was delicious and made to order. The Teen & I shared a salad, pizza and the blood orange soda. I can't get over the hustle and bustle inside this small but quaint establishment, and how the staff rubs it with ease. I'll definitely go back 34 maybe even five times cause there's other things on the menu I would like to enjoy. I give this place four yumms up and #HellaGood on the focaccia bread!!

Still great! The middle seating area has changed to high top tables, which helps with flow. Food was delicious as always. And the servers and wait staff kept our glasses full and checked if we needed anything frequently.

Spaghetti Sugo with Side of Meatballs

Walked in on a warm summer Friday Night and was able to get a table right away in this intimate European style restaurant. Service was very pleasant upon our arrival, checked in on us regularly, and patiently waited for us to close out our tabs as we finished our meals even as it was getting closer to closing time. The best part: the food. We were tempted by previous photos of the Spaghetti Sugo and Meatballs and it was exceptional. The homemade sauce is so flavorful and was our favorite of the evening. The pictures of the meatballs should come with a warning label "much larger than pictured" because each delectably tender sphere stood proudly on the pasta serving It looked like an edible Italian Mountain Range. I ordered three and easily could have been satisfied with two, much respect if you can put down four of these in one go. We also tried the pappardelle bolognese which was very delicious and distinctly different than the sugo options, very much worth trying if you have enough space. The warm bread appetizers are dangerously addictive with the butter, save some to wipe up the leftover sauce on your plate. We (somehow) had room for dessert and opted to share a cannoli which was made perfectly, not too sweet and a nice crunchy roll to go with the cream filling and chocolate chips. The powder on top made it super decorative and gave me LITTLE ITALY NYC WINTER VIBES, very nostalgic to the east coast neighborhoods I frequented. We will absolutely come back for an impromptu date night.

Including this in my 2025 Pizza Reviews but to be honest I was so full from the free bread and burrata it was tough to gauge the pizza properly. This may have one of the best free breads in America - fresh, hot, soft, perfect for butter and dipping into sauces. We waited about fifteen minutes at 8pm on a Saturday to get seated, they're consistently crowded and busy every night so we expected a little wait. Great server that's always around, true pro that will check on you and throw in tons of one liners. Plenty of other staff constantly checking on you and refilling water. A+ service The pizza we ordered was the Michelangelo, we happened to be sitting next to a small painting of the pizza at our table so we naturally were attracted to that as a recommendation - pesto, ricotta, olives, artichokes, tomatoes. Obviously nothing wrong with that. For the amount of toppings I was amazed that the crust was sturdy and crispy underneath, it never got soggy and held up to still eat with your hands. The crust here is unique, soft and crunchy and also perfect for dipping into sauces from the pasta you will order. I'm not a huge pasta person but the spaghetti was amazing, the sauce is likely made daily with love and care. Overall, great spot for a date or family in town. Many more pastas and pizzas to try!

Pappardella porcini

Super small restaurant but very homey feel to it. Highly recommend the Pappardelle Porcini and their special pasta of the day. Came here on a Thursday night with family and there was a 30 min wait. We ordered family style so we can try out everything. The tables are very small so it felt a bit cramped since we had our own plates along with all the dishes on the table. Our server was very friendly and service was fast. My favorites from the dinner are the burrata, the pappardelle porcini with mushrooms, the ravioli special.

LoCoCo is a longtime neighborhood restaurant. I was introduced to the Piedmont location by a Cal student in the 80's whose Sicilian family gave it the stamp of approval. Decades later of meeting friends and bringing my family with toddler in tow, it is still excellent. Joseph, my server, recognized me even though I frequent the Berkeley LoCoCo over the recent past. This Piedmont location is still a cherished restaurant. House-made pastas with flavorful sauces. The old favorites are still stellar and the pizza is always freshly served from their oven. Service is warm and full of humor; Joseph is charming and lives to describe the dishes to the newer customers. It's like "Cheers" on Piedmont Avenue for the regulars. There are no reservations so come early and enjoy that fabulous house-made focaccia.

1/2 giovanni, 1/2 pizza of the week (sausage, mushroom, hot oil)

What a quaint little spot for amazing Sicilian food. If I could describe the ambiance, I would say it is cozy and small, consisting both indoor and outdoor seating. The flavors are spectacular. My friend introduced me to this location yesterday, but I feel like I will definitely be back again, even though I live a bit far from this restaurant. Apparently they have another location in Marin County and also Berkeley! The service was wonderful. The host was on top of it, making sure we received our orders correctly, are enjoying our meal, and constantly ensuring that our drinks are refilled. FYI They also sell wine and other goods, located on their back wall.

Aperol Spritz, Fettuccine Campagnola

Came here on a very busy friday night! Signed in on their waitlist and was told the wait was about 30-40 minutes. Wasn't a problem- got to stroll piedmont avenue in the meantime. When i came back, i was seated and quickly attended to by Joseph! He was super friendly, took the time to explain the menu, and got me a fresh plate of their flatbread. I ordered the fettuccine campagnola w an aperol spritz to go with it. The spritz was perfectly made and the pasta was so good- perfect portion, too. One of my favorite parts was that they leave a whole cup of parmesan cheese on your table so you can add as needed. Ambiance was great, though it was a small space, it was very cozy and didn't feel overwhelming.

Michelle and I have been coming here for years. It had been a while and we've been craving the Lo Cocos special pizza. We substitute the anchovy with clams and it was delicious. I started with the hot fresh bread, followed by the Portillo salad, which was amazing. Then the pizza and finished it off with a delicious very light not too sweet tiramisu.

Ask the Community - Lo Coco's

Do they take reservations?

I have never known them to take reservations. Small restaurant worth the wait

Same owners at Berkeley?

Yep, it's the same Italian family running both places

Is this place open for outside dining?

They have like 2 outside tables, but are now open for indoor dining at the Piedmont ave location.

Is there hard alcohol or just wine? Also, do they accept credit card?

They just started accepting credit cards!! 😊👍🏻

How long is the wait for a Saturday night?

I have been on a Friday and Saturday between 6-8 PM. I would say it's anywhere from 25-45 minutes for 2-4 people.

Hi Is this a yummy casual spot for a birthday? I LOVE, LOVE pasta but only enjoy on the weekend. So it must be yummy and special! Thxs in advance. Pam

Hi, great place for casual dining. It's a very small place and sometimes there is long wait, but it's worth it. You might want to call them regarding a large party and inquire about reservations. They also only accept cash and check. Hope you enjoy… Read more

The Tuna carpaccio was delicious, well balanced, with a perfect portion size. I Could eat three but luckily you won't need to with the three course prix fixe menu. The Sugo is a hug in a bowl. Then we both went for the signature sugo pasta - another excellent choice. I can be a little finicky about meat sauces, but this was phenomenal. Unfortunately, chocolate dessert was a little dry, though the plum was lovely. I also wasn't too keen on the recommended wine pairing, but that's more a matter of individual taste. The real standout was actually the focaccia. Order as much as you can possibly consume. Service was perfect, attentive without hovering. And we never wanted for anything for more than a moment.

So I ordered "Spaghetti with Meaty Marinara and 3 Piece Meatballs" for $15.99. What I received was spaghetti and meatballs, no meaty sauce. The flavor was bland and nothing to rave about. The 3 meatballs were tasty. The pasta was a little dry. Perhaps you should put a scoop of sauce on top of the pasta before you seal the container. Also, they use a foil container, not a microwavable one. The dish itself tastes average, nothing special. For $15.99, you should add extra sauce and add a free dinner roll. If you do a little research, you will find that "901 Marina Village" is the Straw Hat Pizza Restaurant. I don't know if this is a shared kitchen, a ghost kitchen, or just a menu option at Straw hat in Alameda. Would I order again? Nope, not worth $15.99, even with $5.00 off. 901 Marina Village is the Straw Hat Pizza in the Marina Village shopping center. Free parking. Near the Alameda Tube. When it did arrive, I received the completely wrong item. So I called the restaurant, and they seemed to realize before I even finished explaining, because clearly another customer had received my order. I confirmed the item I ordered and they said they'd re-deliver. I live 10-15 min from the restaurant. 35 min later the re-delivered item arrived.... still not correct. I ordered "Bruschetta Chicken Pasta" and there was no bruschetta. The food itself was also pretty mediocre for the price they're charging. My husband was unimpressed with the quality and scant portion of his meatball spaghetti. The portion of my re-delivered item was ok, but the earlier (wrong) item they delivered was a tiny portion, the container barely half full. GrubHub provided a full refund for my Bruschetta Chicken Pasta, at least. Also as others have noted: the restaurant address is actually the address for VJ's Sports Bar, formerly Straw Hat Pizza, so not sure what's going on there... Bottom line: avoid this place.
