2 scoops (sea salt caramel, champagne sherbet) 9.50
Victor G.

Loard's Ice Cream reopened here after being closed for 4ish years. Seating a few tables inside & a few outside. Counter service m may be less than other locations. Variety of ice creams looks the same. Loard's is a San Leandro breed biz. This locale was corporate, now it's a franchisee. Small parking lot. Quick service as line is short. Licks: 2 scoops in a cup (9.50) -didn't bother to get samples. The scoops looked generous & melty. Champagne shebert on bottom. -slightly tart, fruity, & sweet. Not too sweet. Pretty good. Sea salt caramel -melty, not too sweet. Not as caramel tasting as artisan brands. Ok. Mango & coffee best options. 4.5 stars worthy in Bay Area. Quality: better than most in Bay Area. Quantity: comparable

Original Loard's location, such a cute diner vibe. Get the waffle cone- it's nice and warm! My go to here is the mint chip- I love how the mint is diced up, it's not like other mint chip where it's hard pieces of chocolate. Just across the street from Cafe Noir too for some good brunch!

Triple flavor cone!

*insert Oprah Winfrey car giveaway meme* "Ice cream for you, and ice cream for you, ice cream for everybody!!!" Loard's ice cream is a stable in Oakland, and it's back in business! This classic ice cream shop has a ton of flavors. We tried about 10 flavors and had trouble deciding which ones to get. After a long debate, we ended up with mint chocolate, mango, and black raspberry -- each would be great on its own (we just couldn't decide on 1 flavor). The triple decker was everything we needed to satisfy the ice cream flavor, will be back to try all the other flavors soon! On the plus side: this shop is located in a plaza with (free) parking.

Sundae

Came here craving some afternoon sweet treats but didn't want to go all the way to Alameda for the South Shore Loard's location. Seems like from the reviews that this is the original location that just opened after a remodel. The renovated space is pretty nice - gives a vintage corner diner vibe that isn't apparent at the South Shore location (which feels like it is a refurbished deli turned ice cream parlor). Neon lights also gives that feeling of being somewhat transported into a different time period. However, that's where most of my compliments have to end. At 5:30ish there was a line towards the door of about 3-4 parties but only one main person working there (along with who I presume is their daughter) and therefore the service took a lot longer than we had hoped. We got a sundae but for $10 it was a lot smaller than we had expected - other ice cream shops like Clancy's or Lana's gives pretty large single scoops bigger than the entirety of the sundae we got; we also distinctly remember the Loard's at South Shore being quite generous with their servings as well for cheaper. It's a shame because the measly portion we did get was pretty tasty, with the chocolate fudge sauce they topped off being incredibly good - it left us wanting a LOT more. Hopefully this was just a one-off issue, but for the time being we might opt for the South Shore location or other local spots instead for our sweet tooth cravings.

$10.50 for two scoops of mediocre ice cream. I don't have anything else to say but I need to add more words to finish the review.

The employee would forget which flavors we wanted and rudely asked for all of us (who already got our ice cream) to leave the space as it was getting too crowded. Fair ask, yes. The way it was delivered? Just rudely said with a bad tone too. I also got charged for my ice cream when one of my friends had already paid for mine in front of me. I went to have it reversed, and he was saying how my friend paid for 6 singles and I got a junior size then there was nothing to be reversed. If anything we paid twice and for the wrong size. I get that it may have been confusing especially with big groups and long lines but it could have been handled more professionally.

I have been here so many times so I'm surprised I haven't written a review yet…read more This place is quite a quintessential restaurant to eat at in Oakland Chinatown. They are open late and have plenty of seating and a huge menu to select everything you'd want. This time around we got mixed fruits in a crepe, strawberry ice cream with an eggette, ovaltine, milk tea and a baked chicken and rice to go for tomorrow's lunch. The desserts were decent and tasted like what you'd think they'd taste like. The drinks were soothing and the baked chicken and rice was the star of the show. It was savory with every grain of rice not going to waste with how delicious it is and the chicken was oh so, tender. The baked rice dishes are where they're at. The duck roll was also perfection. The duck was tender and the roll was crispy and chewy. Yummy! They have a $10 minimum spend per person so plan accordingly!

I've gotten orders to go from here for 5 years plus. I started with the rice plates (mediocre, like I said quick bite) then I found their appetizer duck rolls (the ish)! I ordered them for every meal after that. Then I found they had a delicious coffee and tea combo (I thought I was the only one doing that...lol)! Once again delicious every time. At first I thought it only came in one size (large cup) then one day I ordered and then person gave me a small cup and I didn't remember if they charged me the same. Then I went back again and said large cup and they seemed surprised I even knew there was a difference (that was weird AF...like you know what weird). So I l've spent some time now saying Large cup and hopefully will continue. The issue is now that the last time I ordered my delicious duck rolls and a coffee and tea combo, my coffee came hot and wonderful (almost too hot) and my ducks rolls came cold! Literally like it came from thawing and they forgot to "cook it!" Ugg ewwwwwww I ended it microwaving one and eating it that night. My plan had been to eat one night and save the other anyway. Ended up heating up the other one a couple days later on my stove top. I love cooking so this wasn't a huge issue, but wow what a serious mistake! Or was it...? Idk at this point. I give restaurants 3 chances especially when they're doing at least two items correctly. This restaurant is one of the busiest in downtown Oakland and I commend them for being around this long and servicing both China Town and the rest of Oakland. Will be back, just thought yall should know! Until next time!

We saw them make the waffle bowl in front of us and I've never had a waffle bowl before, so this could be a "me" thing, but it wasn't as crispy as I was expecting it to be. But my boyfriend seemed to like it. My affogato was more of a coffee with a scoop of melted ice cream. They brewed TWO *DOUBLE SHOTS* and poured them in a 16 ounce cup w 1 scoop of ice cream. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Pink Jesus, but it ended up being a pleasant surprise. It's a blend of lavender and raspberry, with the lavender coming through more strongly, floral but not overwhelming. The Matcha Snickerdoodle and Vietnamese Coffee were both bold and very true to their flavors. You can immediately tell what you're eating, which I loved. The Honey Graham Cracker, though, was a bit too sweet for my taste.

The only issue is there's no clear menu posted online, so we walked in completely blind. Their website shows a long list of flavors but not what they actually have that day, so it felt like a guessing game. The line moved really slow because there was only one employee handling everything. She was taking orders, giving samples, answering questions, and ringing people up all at once. She was super friendly and doing her best, but it felt like a lot for one person during a rush and the shop could definitely use more help. The space is really small and tight so it was hard to even see the flavors until we got close to the front. When we finally got up there, a lot of the tubs were already empty which was confusing since most ice cream shops restock. Some flavors I wanted weren't available anymore, and if they're out it would make more sense to just remove them from display. The dirty containers didn't make sense to display. I sampled the jasmine green tea and knew right away I wanted it. It was creamy with a smooth tea flavor that wasn't overpowering. I got a small with half jasmine green tea and half avocado. The avocado was surprisingly really good, super creamy and tasted like a fresh avocado smoothie. Both flavors weren't overly sweet which I liked. My husband wanted cookies and cream but it was sold out so he got chocolate chip instead, which was solid and creamy with good texture. Overall the ice cream itself was good, not the best I've had but definitely not bad. I like that the flavors lean more natural and not overly sweet. I could see myself coming back if I'm in the area, but the experience would be a lot better with faster service and more consistency with what's actually available.
