I got my bag and wasn't sure if there was anything in it since it was too light -I got what looked like a sandwich bread slice but folded in the middle, bread had lots of butter and the little bit of lobster had no flavor. Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 71/100 My friends were visiting and one of them has never had a lobster roll. We were lucky that this truck was in our neighborhood for the weekend. It's been several years since I've had one of these lobster rolls, but I'm happy to report that they are still delicious. The rolls are small but packed full of fresh lobster or crab. You can also add extra meat for a fee, but I think it's just right the way it is. The roll itself is well-buttered and melts in your mouth. I always get the rolls with butter, not mayonnaise so you can really taste the seafood. I was disappointed when I ordered from here, it was small and basically dorky when I ordered a roll from here. But it's expensive as hell, this garbage truck basically charged me $18 for $5 in lobster. Most of the time I mention how ordering food charges a ridiculous amount for a drink, and that's the same here. Friggin' an arm and a leg here. Not worth the price they charge. Have you ever had a lobster roll in Boston? those darn Main lobsters are ridiculously good. Who knew this portable food truck could bring that same quality over to us in the west coast! Best of all, they drive to locations all over LA and OC so follow them on their website to find out where their next location will be parked. This Lobsta Roll....ohmahgerrrd. Super buttery and tender......very flavorful and just the right amount of mayo on that bread so that it doesn't take away the lobster taste. I'm not usually a fan of any food truck that doesn't serve buche and tripas tacos. But the Lobsta Truck might be that one exception in a world of overpriced, oversauced korean fusion crap. The lobster roll with butter came with big chunks of lobster meat on a lightly toasted bun, and tasted quite fresh. I enjoyed it a lot more than the mayo one. The rolls were a little small in size, but I would have no problem putting away two of these on my own. I like this truck tho because you get exactly what you expect to get. Fresh lobster without any of the bs. And for those who complain about the price, $12 is not expensive for a lobster roll. I would gladly pay that much for another one. read more

On our food truck excursion tonight my daughter and son decided to order their dinner from the Lobsta Truck!! The menu is simple with a lobster or crab roll either in butter or mayo, a bisque and or clam chowder. They have bags of chips to choose from as a side. My daughter got the crab roll with butter. This I believe was $11 and once we got it, not too big in size. It did have a good portion of crab meat and tasted pretty good. Doesn't come with any sides so she grabbed a bag of sea salt and vinegar chips. My son got the cup of clam chowder which is $4. The soup is creamy and tasted delicious. I would rate it 4 stars. They didn't provide any crackers and when I went to ask them for some they said they had ran out. Crackers with the soup is a must so my son was a bit bummed. They could have offered a piece of bread but nothing was given. Service was lacking. When we walked up the guy in the truck was hunched over and didn't greet us. 4.5 For me its stiff competiton with Cousin maine lobster. I feel kinda guilty for cheating on CML but they don't come around the parts im usually in often. I've always knew about Lobsta truck but I got to CML first in Cerritos, months ago. I thought I would never cheat on them but now I will cheat on CML, when im in the mood for a lobster roll and they just so happen to me closer to me than they are :D So the family and I were at the little gathering on tustin ave on thursdays. I saw this truck and said to myself, I have to give them a whirl so I can compare the two sameish kind of trucks. At first glance, menus are different between the two. CML have lobster rolls cooked two ways, bisque and other lobster dishes. LT has a more straightforward menu, crab and lobster rolls , lobster bisque and clam chowder. First visit, I ordered a lobster roll and clam chowder. Took that ish home and started guuuuuuuuurrrrrubbin! This sandwich is FILLED with lots of lobster meat. They have an option of extra meat added. You don't need to do that. It has enough meat. The food is super fresh and no icky seafood smell. The roll was was buttery. The lobster meat wasn't as buttery like CML's but it still was a solid lobster roll! Now for the clam chowder. This chowder was one of the best ones I've ever had! Good balance amount of clams and potato. It also tasted like this chowder was cooked in bacon fat. It was more than faint, but not overpowering! My sister and mom couldn't get enough of it! Innova had a promotion where if you jumped through hoops, they would give you a coupon for $8 off whatever you wanted to purchase. Since I am a sucker for those kind of things, I jumped through the hoops. I had my first experience with Lobster Rolls in July of 2012 when I vacationed in Maine. So, I kind of knew what to expect in a lobster roll. After receiving my coupon, I raced to the Lobsta Truck to order 2 lobster rolls. I told the guy that I was going to eat one, and save the other one for my wife, who would get it after work, if it lasted that long. The guy told me that he would make one lobster roll, and he would give me the ingredients for the second lobster roll for me to assemble later. He told me that if he assembled the sandwich to be eaten hours later, it would be soggy. The second lobster roll was at the full price of $12. Even at the full price, the lobster roll was a great deal! I don't think you can find a $12 lobster roll in Maine. Most of them are over $15. The lobster rolls were ready within minutes. I was surprised to see that the sandwich was on Texas toast. But, the flavor and texture of the lobster meat went perfectly with their bread. The lobster meat was good. But, not as good as fresh cooked Maine lobsters in Maine. Maine lobsters in California just isn't the same. $16 is a little over my limit, unless I am going to an AYCE Korean bbq. This food truck was outside of my office building and I told my coworker because I knew she liked lobster rolls...She's been to the Cousin's Lobster Truck? But once I told her it was outside our building, she told me to come with her. I wanted to just look, but ended up trying it anyway! What I got: Lobster Roll w/ Butter ($13): so you have your choice of getting it with butter or with mayo. Co worker told me to get it with butter since it seems like you get extra meat. $13 is kind of price-y in my opinion for what came out. Was able to try some of their food when they were at the O.C. Fair. My sister wanted to try both the lobster rolls and the crab roll. With their food being so popular, the crab roll was sold out by the time we ordered. My sister, mother, and I shared the lobster roll with butter, the lobster roll with mayo, and the lobster bisque. The rolls were a decent size. Since we were sharing it with 3 people, each person got 2 inches of each roll. They did not skimp on the lobster, which was great. Each bite had lobster in it. Out of the two lobster rolls, we all liked the lobster with mayo the best. It had the best flavor. The lobster with butter was also good. What I didn't like was the touch of lime/lemon juice that was already squeeze on for us. I don't like having that lemon/lime flavor on my lobster. The lobster bisque came out hot, which was awesome. I heard it was a zoo the night before. fortunately the wait on Saturday was not that bad. it was a daunting spectacle: aisles and aisles of food trucks, aisles and aisles of food tents. even the info booth were confused themselves. the aroma of everything buttery, juicy, savory, and crispy wafted through the air. your senses are evoked and seriously, you just cannot decide what to order. the famous ramen burger had a booth that would require a 45-60 minute wait. nah, we passed on that. then these magical words "Lobsta Truck" appeared in the corner of my eyes, beckoning me to come over. the Crimson hue of the truck was catchy, who could miss it? I shared half, and it was the most delicious lobster roll I've ever had. I knew I loved lobster, but didn't think I could love it that much.... being very carbo-phobic myself. Well, it was so good I got another one after that shared half and ate the whole roll by myself. No sharing this time! Fast forward to what is now April 2019. Exactly 5 years to my first bite of a lobster roll, and in my memory it still reigns supreme as the best lobster roll I've had. Desert Island, Maine, where roadside lobster stands get you a 1 1/4 lb lobster served on a wooden plank, with a mallet, bib, cup o' chowda or bucket o' steamahs, and corn on the cob......but I digress... The Lobsta truck parked in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, just outside of my office, was a "must do" lunch for the die-hard New Englander that I am. So maybe I am biased with this review, but I found it to be just mediocre. The traditional buttered hot-dog bun was nice, but overall the roll was small for the price - $12 for exactly 5 bites of food. Fair quantity of Lobster meat, but primarily claw meat, and the rubbery kind - not the tender kind. Some more tail meat thrown in there would be nice. Clam chowdah, however, was excellent. Though not the steamer clams variety, the clams were tender, the sauce thick and rich, with bacon chunks, and buttery flavor. This helps boost my rating from 2-stars to 3. The Lobster roll has the Maine and Connecticut style. Maine has the meat served cold with mayo and/or butter and the Connecticut style is served warm with those same options. They only offer the Maine style. The lobster is cooked well, large claw chunks in it. Yes it's small, the bread is small soft and buttery even without additional butter. It might have been toast. Service is ok, they are usually so busy all conversation goes out the door. I couldn't even get an answer to a few small questions like if the workers/owners were from Maine or how often they get their Lobster shipped to them. Price is a little higher than brick and mortar locations probably due to the truck, but most consider lobster rolls pricey due to size, but they don't consider the deeply sweet, succulent and soft Maine lobster meat is unmistakeable. Crab Rolls only have Dungeoness and no Blue crab so it's totally overpriced. Also small like the lobster roll. Get a whoopie pie or your experience isn't complete. It's totally not something Californian's like very much, cuz you didn't grow up on them. The more time i spent outside of California shows me exactly how little we travel and walk in other peoples shoes or eat their gastronomy. Lemonade completes the sunny day lunch experience. I liked the Bisque which was packed with flavor from spices, but really small lobster chunks. I like the Cape Cod chips and the whole idea, but it really fails to offer people a real Maine lobster shack experience with losses of authenticity, flavor, variety and options. Came out to 21.30, I don't mind paying that for lunch out of a truck if I believe is good. Where it went wrong is when i saw the driver cash the people behind me and then going to flip the bun he had on the grill with his bare hands. I asked the guy "do you happen to have gloves?, I saw you touching money and then the food!" He said he did have gloves and continue to wash his hands and put in gloves which I thought was great.! He then started making my food, but what I did notice was that he made my food with a bun he had already touched with money infested hands .! I don't believe I am overreacting as that is just plain gross as well as a health code violation.! I asked for money back instead and the guy handed me a 20 dollar bill to which I said my total had been 21.30 he did not seem happy but still gave me my money back.! I called the number found on here and I received the following: "Thank you for the message. We use disposable latex gloves when making all our food. I am originally from the Boston area and grew up eating lobster rolls. Since finding the lobsta truck I have become a regular customer. I prefer the mayo version over the butter one but that is just personal taste. The rolls are filled with lobster but they are a bit small. Only 4 stars because of that. I get one, eat it, and then go back for a second one. The clam chowder is very, very good. I usually get some to take home after eating the 2 rolls. Clam Chowder is New England-style. It is rich and creamy with the perfect thickness that sticks to the back of the spoon. It is chocked full of clams. It would be a cool option to serve it in a bread boule. Rating: 5/5 Lobsta Roll is fresh Maine lobster on a toasted split top roll with your choice of butter or seasoned mayo. The lobster is flown in 3 times a week so you know you're getting the freshest lobster possible. I personally like my lobster with butter. It brings out the sweetness of the meat and the bread soaks up any excess for a great flavor. The lobster portion is generous, but you can always get two if you still have the lobster craving. This truck came to my work. First thing we see is a sign that says "waiting on food from lax" so we had to wait another 15 min. Once food arrived I wanted to order the fish and chips but there was none. I wanted to order the whoopie pie there was none. Almost over half the menus wasn't even available and not due to it being sold out ? but rather it had just arrived. So I settled for the clam chowder which is always gonna be a hit or miss and this was a miss. It was bland and runny very few clams. I had to add salt pepper and Topatia however the one item they didn't make that they had was the blueberry soda from Maine Root was amazing! I love claim chowder but considering all the mishaps and the chowder being so funny, I wouldn't get it from here again, eat here again, or recommend eating here to anyone. read more

This was my first experience with The Lobsta Truck so I was eager to try their primary draw...the Lobsta Roll! Ordering was simple, delivery was fast (less than 2 minutes), and I was happy to see they accepted plastic. MY ORDER Lobster Roll (with butter) Soft Drink (Coke in a can) Price: $14.50 INITIAL THOUGHTS I was surprised to see this served on a slice of grilled buttered bread as the web site describes it as a Split Top Roll. This made for a small item that could not have weighed more than a few ounces yielding an average 3-4 bites...being liberal (this is not a stuffed sandwich by far). CONCLUSION I loved the taste of the lobster (butter brought out the sweetness), was surprised by the bread selection, and underwhelmed by the portion. As value is hard to determine not knowing market pricing or respective portions...I will just say, that was a great snack and might be better described as a "mini" lobster roll. Where do I begin, starting from the fact that the lobster was beyond chewy, the flavor was just completely off, and considering I am paying $17 for an average size roll you would think the expectation would be higher than subpar. My parents tell an old story about dropping me off on my grandparents' front porch in Augusta, Maine the summer of 1982. They rang the bell after hiding their car down the block. Oh, was my Grams delighted when she opened the door to find 2-year old Susanne grinning up at her. I think that's the only time our family arrived unannounced because I remember showing up every summer to a huge pot of lobster stew on the stove and a veritable treasure trove of cookie tins in the cabinet. I spent every childhood summer on the coast of Maine. So I know a thing or two about "lobstah", oh yes I do. Lobster bisque, lobster stew, lobster rolls, lobster pie -- that last one is the holy grail. If I gave you the recipe I'd have to demand rights to your first born or something. Wow, I just totally starting daydreaming about lobster pie. ANYWAY. I was excited to see two food trucks featuring lobster at the Breeder's Cup Classic infield yesterday. I instantly recognized Cousin's Maine Lobster from The Food Network but their line was INSANE. And the boyfriend and I were HANGRY (hungry/getting rapidly more cranky about being hungry). So we opted for the shorter line at the Lobsta Truck. Two lobster rolls mayo-style, $13 each. I appreciate that they honor true Maine form and don't doctor the lobster up with fillers like celery, etc. They serve them on toasted split-style buns, as they should. For $13 I was a little disappointed in the size of the sandwich, but I get that lobster is a premium ingredient. Boyfriend said he'd give them 2-stars because he was still hungry after eating it. I wanted to try their lobster bisque, but at $8 a pint that would have made lunch $34 and yours truly still needed a few bucks to bet the ponies!
