We ordered the baked lobster dinner and while decent in taste of haddock stuffing in the baked whole lobster and size of it, it took entirely too long (35 minutes) , not because the kitchen was heavy on orders and lean on staff, it was audibly clear that there was way too much fooling around going on and not enough cooking. I worked in the oil and gas industry so cursing starts to become white noise to me, however, I felt uncomfortable for the elderly patrons and children present with all the F-bombs that were being announced from the kitchen and launched at the waitress. Clearly it is a favorite with locals (as evidence in the bar area) and I can see why with how great the servers/bartender are but the wait compounded by the inedible sides (a canned green bean, frozen veg mix with peppers that was intensely bitter and mashed potatoes that were clearly sitting in a warmer for too long just isn't worth a second trip. It was Saturday and apparently besides the slim pickings, everyone rolls up the sidewalk by 7 or 8 respectively so we went there by default, not design.

Big crowd slowed the service at first but the waitress apologized and made up for it with quick and pleasant service once she got to us. Food was really good. Crab Stew was the best crab soup we ever had; chock full with a ton af crab meat and a nice creamy, buttered broth. No potatoes. Lobster Risotto was baked in scallop shells topped with bread crumbs and was delicious. Regular menu included mussels as well as fried seafood and assorted burgers. A tall glass dessert case as you come in was very tempting but with soup, salad and Risotto we were filled to the gills. I wish we had the time to try it again this year.

If you're visiting Bar Harbor you have probably seen brochures for Thurston's around town like we…read moredid. after looking at reviews and the menu online we visited on a Saturday for an early dinner/late lunch. There was a long line at the door to order but the line moved fairly quickly. After ordering you seat yourself and your food is brought to the table. We sat in the bar area which was very nice. It seemed like all menu items except for lobsters could be ordered from the bar directly so if you are not planning to order a lobster this could help you skip the long line. We had one lobster dinner and one sandwich with a blueberry cider and strawberry rhubarb margarita. The food was great and service was friendly. Prices seem standard for the area.

We sat right on the dock and ordered live lobster, which is cooked fresh on site. Be prepared to wait a bit, but it is absolutely worth it. The lobster was the best we had the entire trip, enjoyed with ocean views and a beautiful sunset. One tip: get the blueberry pie if they aren't sold out. We ordered a few to share and immediately regretted not getting our own because it was that good. By the time we realized, they were already sold out for the night.

Seeing it in the distance fills me with an overwhelming sense of excitement as it meant returning to one of my favorite hiking spots in New England (so far) and beginning a weeklong binge on Maine's freshest seafood. I absolutely love this tiny and unassuming (from the outside) seafood market and couldn't wait to be back again this year. Last year, it was the first stop to pick up ingredients for my weeklong visit to Acadia National Park. This year, after a whole year of telling anyone and everyone I knew visiting Acadia, it was once again my first stop after I started driving from Boston. Loaded Lobster Roll - check. Loaded Crab Roll - check. Dorr Hoodie - check. Fresh scallops - check. 5# bag of steamers - check. Calamari salad - check. A pair of lovely fresh and alive lobsters for later - check. Some of the freshest stuff at really competitive prices. What's there not to like? Oh yeah, there is Tim with his super sarcastic sense of humor. A conversation with him just absolutely cracks me up. Super nice dude with a lot of information and makes the overall experience here even better than it already is. I also got to meet the father and son owners during this visit. Always glad to meet the hardworking fishermen behind the amazing product that I've become addicted to.

They have fresh and frozen soups for sale, and a single refrigerator display of a few fine pieces of seafood. They do the lobster, too, of course. I went with the scallops, a quart of New England Clam Chowder, and two pounds of fresh haddock. My wife made some awesome fish and chips with the haddock, had some beautiful sautéed scallops, and the soup was excellent. Was about $75 for everything, and we'd come back. The two gentlemen running the place answered all my questions and were more than happy to assist.
